Jake only refers to people by their call sign or their last name unless he's close to them(i.e Javy)

It took months for everyone to realize that he had grown to like Bob(specifically Bob, he had no clue) until Jake finally got frustrated and started calling him Bobby and Robert to make it clear what he was doing

Jake didn’t think it would be Bob. He didn’t think it would be Bob, period, but he certainly didn’t think it would be Bob over the cliff first—leaping the ledge, eyes wide open, fearless.

But it is Bob. It’s Bob coming up out of a firestorm, on his wing, always, with that permanently inquisitive brow hidden behind wide glass lenses. Even now, it’s Bob pressing Jake into the careful dark of a supply closet corner, slowly taking Jake apart in ways he didn’t even know he could be broken.

And the thing is, Jake has been starving for weeks. But now he realizes maybe Bob has been hungry for longer. Because those are Bob’s hands in his hair, pulling gently at the roots, fingers carding through. That’s Bob’s jaw beneath Jake’s fingertips, and his shaking breath against Jake’s lips, and those are his teeth, grazing skin.

Jake can’t get enough. He doesn’t know how he went this long without it. And still...

“We can’t," he murmurs, and Bob growls, a low rumble breaking the quiet.

“We already are,” he insists, but he pulls back a couple inches just the same, carefully removing himself at the first sign of Jake’s distress.

“No, no,” Jake soothes. He reaches across the sudden distance placed between them. He runs his thumb over Bob’s bottom lip, pulls lightly at the slight dip of his chin. “We can’t be late for drinks. Phoenix will never let us hear the end of it. But until then…” He tugs Bob gently closer. “We have time,” he breathes against Bob’s mouth, and feels the hands at his waist seeking purchase, clenching in the fabric of his uniform.

“We have time,” Bob echoes, and Jake is nodding, backing himself into the corner, letting Bob take the lead.

We have time, he thinks, and then he’s right back to falling.

FAQ

To limit initial confusion and miscommunication, here are some answers to questions that I anticipate. 

How does this work?

Each person who fills out the Google Form will be assigned one prompt to submit to the AO3 collection. They will then write that prompt and post it on their assigned day! Please feel free to write any of the other prompts, but keep them out of the collection so that we can have 28 fics that correspond to all 28 days in February.

Who can participate?

Anyone above the age of 18 and that is a fan of Top Gun may participate. Keep in mind, unless people agree to collaborate on a prompt, there is a limit of 28 participants in this event. 

Is there a word minimum or maximum for fics?

There is no word minimum or maximum, but don’t half-ass your prompt last minute or work yourself to the bone to get it done.

Are the assigned dates set in stone?

No! If you feel you need more time on your prompt, feel free to switch dates with someone who is finished or closer to being done. If it becomes an issue and you need assistance finding a different date or finishing your piece in time, please reach out!

Where do I post?

There is an AO3 collection made for this event, which will be posted as February approaches. 

Who can I write about?

As with many events and from what I have seen in the fandom, it’s generally most accepted to write about canon characters. This is not to say that OC content is completely off-limits, but it is my goal to make this event as enjoyable for everyone as possible, readers included. Please use your best judgement in using OC’s in your fic, especially if they are part of the main pairing in your piece. 

What is off-limits?

As some of the prompts suggest, angst is completely allowed. That being said, TW’s and warning about content will be required at the beginning of any fic if it may contain sensitive content. Strictly not allowed in the event are Bradley Bradshaw/Pete Mitchell and any romantic work involving Amelia Benjamin, and all ships that pair a pilot from the original ‘86 film and a newly-introduced character in the 2022 sequel are strongly discouraged. Any work with any sort of inc*st, underage sex, or ped*phila will be rejected from the collection immediately.

There is a channel in the top gun: maverick server on discord for the event, but if you aren’t too keen on joining, please feel free to reach out to this blog directly!

What if I don’t like my prompt?

If you have a true issue with your prompt, please contact me directly. You are more than welcome to tweak your prompt or spice it up a bit, but if you would like to switch prompts with someone or rework yours entirely, let me know and we will work it out!
