On Flashback Fridays I will share with you the books I was not able to review when they were first released which have been screaming at me from my To-Be-Read bookshelf. I backed off my reading goal a bit for this year to relieve some stress and get a little more sleep. Most nights, I am up between 1 and 2 to complete a book, but some nights my eyes are just slamming. I have reading commitments I must meet so it is my #FlashbackFriday reads that suffer. So today, I am sharing a book that I recently and reluctantly moved to my giveaway shelf. Mrs. Morris and the Pot of Gold (A Salem B&B Mystery) Paranormal Cozy Mystery 6th in Series Setting - Massachusetts Publisher ‏ : ‎ Kensington (August 23, 2022) Mass Market Paperback ‏ : ‎ 336 pages ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 1496733053 ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1496733054 Kindle ASIN ‏ : ‎ B09MYMSPHC Audiobook ASIN B0CX727KYG Audio CD ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0CZ7KWGWS Salem, Massachusetts, B&B owner Charlene Morris will need the luck of the Irish—and the help of a ghost—to unveil a hooded killer . . . Charlene has hired a van to ferry her B&B guests to an all-you-can-eat corned beef and cabbage dinner hosted by Salem’s Irish community at the Ancient Order of Hibernians club—but she should have booked a hearse. It’s never a good sign when the family black sheep drunkenly crashes a party by punching the guy dressed as a leprechaun. But things go from troublesome to fatal when Charlene stumbles upon a second brawl in an upper room—and this fight Connor Gallagher loses, his anonymous assailant rushing past Charlene, hidden by a hoodie. Now Detective Sam Holden has another homicide on his hands, with Charlene as the only eyewitness. Even if she can’t give the police sketch artist much to go on, Charlene is determined to ID the murderer, with the help of Dr. Jack Strathmore, the charming ghost who haunts her B&B. The answer lies in the motive, and to uncover that sleuth and spook will need to shine a light on Connor’s shady past—before the killer pulls another Irish goodbye . . . About the Author From cozy mysteries to seaside romance, USA Today bestselling author Traci Hall writes stories that captivate her readers. As a hybrid author with over sixty published works, Ms. Hall has a favorite tale for everyone. Mystery lovers, check out her Scottish Shire series, set in the seaside town of Nairn, or the Salem B&B Mystery series, as Traci Wilton. Her latest project is an Irish Castle cozy as Ellie Brannigan. Whether it’s her ever-popular By the Sea romances, an Appletree Cove sweet romance, or a fun who-done-it, Traci finds her inspiration in sunny South Florida, living right near the ocean. A Goodreads Primer by Jim Tritten
http://www.goodreads.com/
Goodreads, often referred to as the Facebook or Internet Movie Data Base (IMDb) for readers and authors, is more than just a platform. It's a vibrant community boasting an impressive user base. With over 150 million members, 200,000 registered authors, and a staggering 3.5 billion books on file, it's clear that Goodreads is the go-to platform for readers and book recommendations. Let’s delve into why you should consider joining this thriving community.
Goodreads offers a unique opportunity for authors to connect with their readers on a deeper level. Imagine your book, like the 2024’s most popular book, The Women, being reviewed by a whopping 361,609 readers, who have collectively posted 44,801 reviews, giving it an impressive overall score of 4.66 out of 5.0. These reviews are not just numbers; they are your readers' voices, shaping your work's perception.[i]
This should signal to us that a large audience of users of this database routinely access book listings and express their opinions. Participation is also a straightforward way to keep track of what you have read in the past, much like you can do with movies on IMDb. The more books you enter that you want to, are, or have read, the better the software can recommend books for you to read based on your preferences. Amazon.com does the same thing based on your purchases and browsing history.
As an author, you can post an author profile with links to any work for sale on Amazon.com and attract fans and followers for you and your books. Goodreads will automatically import any book from Amazon.com that lists you as a contributor. A posting of your books affords you the prospect of adding an enticing description that might convince someone to purchase your work (helpful links to sites are included). It also allows you to introduce searchable metadata on your book by readers looking for various subjects and keywords. When readers have read one of your books, they click on a link to your author page and follow you. You can see what friends are reading and how they rank any book. Private messaging and group discussions are allowed between members of groups and friends.
As a publisher, and anyone that is an indie or self-publisher this means you, you will undoubtedly want to take advantage of a highly robust and free author page available to anyone Goodreads qualifies as a Goodreads Author. Generally, this is anyone with a published book who is listed as a contributor – thus including chapter authors for anthologies. As a Goodreads Author, you can post your photo, a bio, answers to questions the site or you provide, a video of perhaps you reading a portion of your work, a list with links to your books, a blog, lists of books you are reading, quotes by you, quotes by others that you like, results of polls, and authors that you like. This is in addition to groups you can join, friends you can collect, and announcements of events sent automatically to your friends, like on Facebook. There is a separate page for giveaways. You can enter some data initially, go back, and fill in the rest later. The author’s page alone should be sufficient reason to get involved.
Goodreads, like Amazon.com, now require separate author pages for each name under which you are published.[ii] Amazon.com owns Goodreads, and books listed on Amazon should routinely appear in it. A librarian group helps fix metadata problems. A Goodreads app is available on most smartphones, permitting access from your mobile device.
MWSA has an active Goodreads profile, where we post reviews of books submitted by members for our annual writing contest.[iii] Each awards season, we add books to a “shelf” for that season’s year. For example, here’s a link to our 2024 season page.[iv] As of now, we have posted over 800 of our MWSA authors’ books. We have forty-nine friends and sixty-two followers. In other words, creating your own author page and having MWSA post your book on our awards season page will help generate sales for your book.
Join your fellow members and take advantage of the opportunities afforded by this excellent and free program designed to support writers like you. Visit our page today… and don’t forget to become a friend and follower of MWSA’s Goodreads page!
 [i] https://www.goodreads.com/book/popular_by_date/2024 and https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/127305853-the-women
[ii] For example, https://www.goodreads.com/jimtritten contains my more recent publications where I used the pen name Jim Tritten while https://www.goodreads.com/jamestritten generally contains my older and academic publications. There is overlap just as there are on both of my Amazon.com author pages.

What is Email Marketing?
Email marketing is the digital world’s Swiss army knife, a versatile tool that allows businesses and individuals to engage with their audience directly. It involves sending targeted emails to subscribers who have willingly joined your list. These emails can include promotions, valuable content, and more, making it a potent channel for building connections and boosting sales.
Understanding the Basics of Email Campaigns
Email campaigns are the heart of email marketing. They involve sending a series of coordinated emails to your subscribers. These campaigns can serve various purposes, from welcoming new subscribers to promoting products or nurturing leads. By mastering the basics of crafting effective email campaigns, you can engage your audience and drive desired actions, ultimately leading to digital success..
The Roadmap to $3000 Per Month
Earning $3000 per month through email marketing is an achievable goal, but it requires a well-planned roadmap. This journey begins with understanding the fundamentals of list building, crafting captivating content, optimizing send times, and monetization strategies. By following this roadmap, you can navigate the email marketing landscape and reach your destination of financial success.
1. Building Your Email List
The Importance of a Quality Subscriber List
Your email list is the lifeblood of your email marketing strategy. It’s not about quantity; it’s about quality. A list of engaged, interested subscribers is worth more than a massive list of disinterested contacts.
Strategies to Attract Subscribers
Lead Magnets: Offer valuable incentives like e-books, discounts, or free trials to entice people to subscribe.
Contests and Giveaways: Engage your audience by running contests or offering exclusive giveaways.
Webinars and Events: Hosting webinars and online events can attract like-minded individuals.
Leverage Social Media: Promote your email sign-up across social platforms to reach a broader audience.
Segmenting Your Email List
Not all subscribers are the same. Segmenting your email list allows you to send personalized content to different groups. For instance, you might send different emails to new subscribers, loyal customers, or those who’ve shown interest in specific products or topics.
Real-Life Examples of Successful List Building
Dropbox’s Refer-a-Friend: Dropbox offered additional storage to users who referred friends, which led to massive list growth.
HubSpot’s Marketing Grader: A free tool that assessed the marketing effectiveness of a website, generating a ton of subscribers.
Neil Patel’s Content Upgrades: Neil provided bonus content tailored to his blog posts, significantly increasing his subscriber count.
My Best Recommended & Proven Way to Make $100 Daily — Watch THIS FREE Training to START >>
2. Crafting Compelling Email Content
Writing Engaging Subject Lines
Your subject line is the first thing your subscribers see. It’s like the headline of an article; it needs to be catchy and compelling. Use action words, questions, and curiosity to entice your readers to open the email.
Creating Valuable and Relevant Content
Remember, your email content should be like a treasure chest. Subscribers should eagerly anticipate opening your emails because they expect valuable information, promotions, or solutions to their problems.
Incorporating Visual Elements
Don’t underestimate the power of visuals. Include images, videos, and infographics to break up text and make your emails more engaging. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words, especially in the digital age.
Personalization and Automation for Efficiency
Automation tools can help you personalize your emails and schedule them for optimal times. Address your subscribers by their name, recommend products based on their past purchases, and send birthday wishes. These personal touches go a long way.
3. Optimizing Send Times and Frequency
Timing Matters: The Best Days and Hours to Send Emails
Sending your emails at the right time can significantly impact open rates. Generally, Tuesday and Thursday mornings tend to perform well, but the ideal time can vary based on your audience. A/B testing is your best friend here.
Finding the Sweet Spot for Email Frequency
How often should you send emails? It’s a common conundrum. It’s best to maintain a consistent schedule, whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Test different frequencies and monitor engagement to find your sweet spot.
Avoiding the Dreaded Spam Folder
Steer clear of spam triggers like excessive capital letters, too many exclamation marks, and misleading subject lines. Always provide an easy way for subscribers to opt-out and adhere to anti-spam regulations.
4. Measuring and Analyzing Results
Key Email Metrics to Track
To gauge your email marketing success, keep an eye on key metrics like open rate, click-through rate, conversion rate, and unsubscribe rate. These metrics provide insights into the effectiveness of your campaigns.
Tools for Email Analytics
Leverage email marketing platforms like MailChimp, Constant Contact, or HubSpot. These tools provide in-depth analytics, allowing you to track and optimize your email marketing performance.
Adjusting Your Strategy Based on Data
Data-driven decision-making is crucial in email marketing. Use the insights from your analytics to make informed changes to your strategy. If a specific type of email isn’t performing well, tweak it and see the results.
My Best Recommended & Proven Way to Make $100 Daily — Watch THIS FREE Training to START >>
5. Monetizing Your Email List
Affiliate Marketing via Email
Affiliate marketing involves promoting other companies’ products or services and earning a commission for each sale generated through your affiliate links. Use your email list to recommend products or services you genuinely believe in.
Selling Your Own Products or Services
If you have your products or services to offer, your email list is a direct channel to potential customers. Craft compelling sales emails and exclusive offers to turn subscribers into paying customers.
Case Studies of Email Monetization Success
Amazon Associates Program: Amazon’s affiliate program allows website owners and email marketers to promote Amazon products and earn commissions.
Udemy: The online learning platform utilizes email marketing to promote courses, increasing their customer base.
Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income: Pat used email marketing to sell his online courses and grow his passive income stream.
The Path to Earning $3000 Per Month
Starting on this path is your ticket to financial independence. With dedication and a sprinkle of creativity, you can harness the power of email marketing and watch as your efforts transform into a consistent $3000 per month income stream. Remember, it’s a journey, not a sprint, but every step brings you closer to your financial goals.
Conclusion
As our journey through the realm of email marketing comes to a close, it’s essential to reflect on the treasure trove of knowledge you’ve acquired. The path to earning $3000 per month through email marketing may not be instantaneous, but it’s filled with opportunities for growth, connection, and financial success. Remember, it’s not just about the destination; it’s about mastering the art of email marketing, building valuable relationships, and creating a sustainable income stream. Excerpt:      Andrea walked to the coffee table and picked up the letter. She held it up and jabbed at it with her right index finger. “Eleven regional theatre companies have performed Rememberings this year, and I get a royalty check for $750. How could that be right? They’re screwing me and I have no idea what I’m supposed to do.”      “Call Roger and see what he has to say.”      Andrea laughed. “Roger? He texted me yesterday. Not a word about money. He texts me once a year and never once has mentioned royalties…let us not forget that Roger is my last remaining tie to Brian. I met Roger through Brian. Fifty agents wanted to sign me, and Brian insisted I go with Roger and WMA. He’s a pleasant enough guy, unlike Brian, but he’s never done a damn thing for me. Is it Brian’s fault for recommending him, or my fault for listening to him?”      Thoughts of Brian hit Andrea like a face against a windshield. She hadn’t thought about him consciously in a long time, yet he was never far from her thoughts. Some guys are like that; they just get into your blood. Often it is the horrible ones that stay there. As the hot water from the shower touched her skin, it elicited an almost imperceptible sigh. She and Brian had spent many a shower together. She remembered how he loved to soap her breasts, and make her nipples hard…until they begged for his lips. She tossed her wet hair out of her eyes and slapped the wall, chastising herself for even thinking about him. He was just one of many evil spirits she had encountered in her life, and he was her past. Perhaps Ivoryton would point the way to her future. She shook her head as she dried her hair with a towel. She had no idea that she was not quite done with Brian yet.

I actually finished the trilogy just a few days after writing this post. I distinctly remember that I wanted to sit with my thoughts for a little bit before posting my final reaction, but obviously that didn't happen. Oh well... better late than never.
I absolutely loved LAOK. It is probably my favorite book in the trilogy. What a full circle ending. But I can see why some people don't like it. Everything changed, but also nothing changed at all. Basically the bad guy won and if this were another fantasy-series, then the very group that Bayaz brought together would have taken him down (and who knows, maybe some of them actually will in the end... I am not caught up with the rest of the books)... so the ending was probably frustrating for many readers in a what-was-it-all-for?-kinda way, but I found it fitting.
And I felt very vindicated that so many of my predictions were actually pretty spot-on, which just goes to show that the set-up was all there. I will definitely reread the books someday (possibly via audiobook which I heard great things about) and I am excited to see what bits of foreshadowing I might have missed. Like I didn't connect Quai to Tolomei, so a reread of those scenes would be pretty interesting and there are probably more things I missed.
It's almost been a year now since I finished the trilogy, so forgive me, if I get some details wrong, but here are some additional thoughts in no particular order:
Obviously I loved the Ferro-chapter where the Bayaz reveal happens. The house of the maker is still a fantastic setting and the whole Magi and Juvens/Kanedias backstory is still one of the most interesting storylines for me. Like I still have no idea how the magic works, but I find everything connected to it very intriguing (and it is a soft magic system, so I probably will never know)
Was very sad to loose Yulwei though. I think Yulweis connection to Bayaz was also one of the things that made me doubt Bayaz as the bad guy, but it turns out he also didn't know.
The fact that the whole Tolomei-storyline was dealt with in the same chapter that the reveal happened also seems like possible set-up for the second trilogy. Who knows maybe Yulwei isn't even dead
Also I actually love Bayaz as a character. Like I hope he goes down eventually, but man do I love reading about him.
All that death and destruction because of what basically boils down to a pissing contest between two old men. I do hope that we will actually meet Khalul in the other books though
For some reason I also quite like Sulfur (Jezal drove me insane though, when Sulfur was disguised as the judge from the closed council later in the book. He once again noticed the heterochromatic eyes and again didn't connect that to Sulfur)... I do wonder though why the eyes don't change...that seems like a really big giveaway.
I guess it comes as no surprise that I do feel bad for Jezal. That scene in the throne room with Bayaz is brutal and seems like rock bottom for him, but I guess it gets probably lower, with West (and supposedly Logen) dying right after, Ardee marrying Glokta and all his other old friends thinking he lucked out by becoming king. That seems like a truly lonely existence. Like yes, he is a better person, but it also doesn't matter, because he has no power at all. Ironically enough he would probably have a better time as king, if he still was a strictly arrogant prick. I can't even say that I find him exceptionally cowardly, given that the alternative is basically excruciating pain and possible death
I really loved the West chapter, where he is in the sickbed after the battle and Ardee and Jezal come to visit. That even West, who knows what Jezal was like, sees him as this truly kingly figure now. Just goes to show how well Bayaz scheme worked and it really really utilizes the multi-pov-structure
West wasting away from the seed-poisoning and dying a slow death after everything was still hard to read. I don't know how other readers see this, but I am glad that he and Ardee could at least somewhat make up
I am a little surprised that the few moments Jezal and Ardee had after he becomes king still got me. Not that I think they would have lived happily ever after, but it still seems unfair that they couldn't even try
Loved the moment when Glokta realizes that Frost betrayed him, because the reader realizes at the same time as him and that is a real oh-shit-moment. But Ardee to the rescue. I did feel kinda bad for him though that both his practicals betrayed him
Logen kept getting worse and worse and worse. Like even if the Bloody Nine is an involuntary thing, dude soughed out fight after fight. Coming back to the North at all was a shit idea then.
Did like the fact that his duel with the Feared still was kind of a group effort, what with West interfering and the rest of Logens crew killing the witch
I don't think he's dead though. I think he will turn back up again in one of the other books. My best guess is, he followed his own advice and uses the fact that everyone thinks him dead this time and leaves the North for good. Keeping out of fights. Living his life somewhere. I think he and Shivers will meet again. And I will continue believing he's alive until I get confirmation of a nine-fingered corpse in one of the other books
"You're the best man I know" absolutely killed me
Grim :(
It is so funny to me that Glokta basically got the happiest ending out of all the pov-characters, even though he is still just a pawn for an even bigger bad and is set to raise another dude's kid
I do like him and Ardee as a duo, though I don't necessarily ship them romantically (yet?). I am however quite interested how they will be as parents. I'm almost sure that kid is gonna be a pov-character in the second trilogy. Also Jezal has to know that he's the biological father, right? In that regard... I can already see the half-sibling incest coming
I do feel for Terez, the Jezal scene after Glokta had that talk with her was obviously horrible (again great use of the multi-pov), but I still can't say that I like her. I hope that she will care about her kids though
Also the identity reveal of one of Wests companions being Gloktas first torture victim was definitely something that I could have guessed, if I thought a little bit about it, but I sure didn't. Both his names escape me though. Also fits very nicely with the full circle ending
I'm definitely committed to the series. After finishing the trilogy I just waited until foreign language books were on sale again and then bought all the other books at once. I actually read Best Served Cold in the beginning of the year (which I also loved) and just started The Heroes a few days ago. I do hope to be finished completely by the end of the year and can't wait until I can finally look up other peoples opinions without fear of spoilers.
I'm around 180 pages into Last Argument Of Kings now and this time around I have to jot some thoughts down in the middle of reading (I swear to god these books are killing me....like I have trouble concentrating at work now that I'm nearing the ending. I just want to read)
First things first: I was right about Jezal! He is king now (just finished the chapter where he makes West the new Lord Marshal). I never should have doubted myself. By the time he actually gets appointed though, I think it was pretty obvious. Bayaz kept hyping him up since basically his first chapter. So it wasn't surprising, but it's always nice to be proven right^^
Also Ferro laughing her ass off, when Jezal gets presented as the next possible king and then again when Bayaz lists all his "accomplishments" was hilarious
Jezal himself also really flip flops between his old ways and being more humble and it's gonna be interesting (and worrying) how that progresses now that he's king. I do really love the little moments, when he thinks about how Logen would react to things.
soooo... if Bayaz planned to make Jezal king since the beginning, then the logical conclusion is that he had Prince Raynault killed. And since Glokta gets threatend by Valint and Balk not to investigate the murder further, he might also be behind them.
Sulfur is back. I think he's the one that actually killed the prince (and that he's the guard that disappeared).
The description of the body indicates that he also might be an Eater and that could be the reason why he wasn't part of the quest in BTAH. Right now it's my understanding that Eaters have to keep eating human flesh. Jezal also didn't recognize him as the Tanner, even though he found Sulfur pretty irritating in TBI and you would think he would remember someone with heterochromatic eyes. So maybe altering his appearance could be part of his Eater-abilities? Then again Jezal is not the brightest candle on the cake and it makes no sense why Sulfur wouldn't alter his eyes, too. And I guess it's also possible that he staged the death to look like it was an Eater to blame Khalul/Gurkhul?
But we do know there was/is an Eater in Adua since TBI and I guess Sulfur is my best guess. Bayaz already wants to mess with the first law, so I can easily see him having no moral problems with breaking the second law, too... it seems useful to have an Eater on your side
Quai also now straight up says that Bayaz can't be trusted and I am inclined to believe him. Not sure on his vengeance motive, though. Vengeance for what? The state of the Old Empire? Is he gonna betray Bayaz?
Gloktas dreams are something I didn't pay too much attention to (mainly because I thought I couldn't understand them yet), but the last one got me thinking. So it's a woman's voice. The voice demands the seed. The death of Kanedias is referenced...I think it's Tolomei. Like she would have the right blood to be able to handle the seed. Which means she's alive (or at least not entirely dead) and that Bayaz lied about the story. It was only Bayaz up on the roof with Kanedias and Tolomei, so I think that's the part of the story where we are missing key information.
So I'm guessing Tolomei is responsible for Gloktas dreams and for the nightly visit Logen, Bayaz and Quai got in TBI, when the room turned cold and Bayaz torched the place. Also I don't think she's an Eater and everything she's able to do is rather connected to her bloodline and the other side
Everything regarding the seed confuses me. Like it's mentioned that the Magi searched for the seed in the house of the maker after Kanedias was dead and couldn't find it... but then it was Juvens, Kanedias and the other brother who supposedly brought it to the island for safekeeping (obviously before they all murdered each other)... so why were they even searching in Adua? Maybe I'm misremembering things. I do think it's probably in Adua, possibly even in the house of the maker (how else is Glokta supposed to find it?). Also the house of the maker seems like a perfect setting for some kind of showdown.
Everyone keeps ignoring the warnings that the Gurkish are coming, so with every new chapter in Adua I kind of expect war.
Also I'm starting to get suspicious that we never even met Khalul. That seems strange to me. With Bethod we get at least a little glimpse of him and the closest people around him.
Apparently Khaluls apprentice now knows all about the quest for the seed, but I have no idea what that is supposed to tell me. Also if it wasn't obvious already, I'm back on my Bayaz-is-the-true-villain-bullshit (with a little sprinkle of Tolomei-is-somehow-involved), so I'm a little worried that I only have a little more than 400 pages left
I don't have much to say about the North. Except that I'm very worried that Logen either dies or that he kills his own friends while having one of his Bloody-Nine-episodes.
