Mason, the crush: I won't argue! But to clarify -
#my characters#its so sad that all of erins character development and kindness is on paper and nothing digital to show her growth#she picks on mason for many reasons and she kinda narrows her eyes at him but its more to squint than to glare#because she watches him from a distance when hes off laughing with others#though they are united on peter being worse than mason at least they can agree no matter what peter is worse#but also masons right arm is metal and she thinks its fascinating bc theres so many high tech prosthetics#why is he using the equivalent of a trash can ? is it some weird flex to not needing advanced stuff?#and its just he was from a poor family and was born with one full arm and then a stump#and he lived a lot of his youth with just one arm so once he got a second arm (installed basically) he went cheap#since he only wanted the other arm to get better jobs cause not many people would hire him with one arm#and he never really cared much about her comments because her lil verbal pokes of#so rogers whod you piss off? the mafia? is actually nicer than stuff he heard as a kid without the fake arm#so he tells her the only reason he has a metal limb is because god knew hed be two strong if born with two arms#and shes like uh huh sure thing rogers#and yeeeeah eventually something happens where mason is injured and erin is panicking#and hes acting like its okay to die because hes a dick remember TRYING to make light of it and she gets so sad#and after hes recovering and better he feels guilty making her so sad and hes talking to her#and she says that she doesnt have a lot of friends and she didnt want to lose one of the few people she liked#and hes just oh.......................... ididntthinkthatwouldbeme#so he starts to be super friendly to her and enforcing the crush that she doesnt wanna own up to#and then she does eventually confess and mason is baffled as to since when and shes like day one? and he just#erin you have got to be kidding me you were glaring at me for months#and shes just i have bad eye sight and im shy what did you expect#he isnt super smart or super stupid hes just exceedingly average

William Hootkins in the 1990s (1 of 3)
In the 1990s (&2000s) William Hootkins increased his work as a voice actor finding work in animated movies and TV, video games, a Superman Radio serial and book narrations. The acting roles he took were often more challenging or at least making a routine role interesting. He could really steal the scene.
Hootkins guest-starred on an episode of Poirot in 1990 as an FBI agent who irritated Poirot because he underestimated him and mocked him.
In 1990 he also appeared in Hardware, a sci-fi slasher movie directed and co-written by Richard Stanley. I haven't seen it but will when it becomes available.
In 1991 Hootkins guest-starred on his second episode of long-time UK Mystery Crime-Drama Bergerac.
And he guest-starred in UK Mystery Crime-Drama Chancer.
Also in 1991, he took a small role in The Pope Must Die(t) with Robbie Coltrane. It was a small, but multi-scene role and he didn't even stand out. Maybe he took this role just to work with Robbie Coltrane.

#basically my dad has a pair of these banger shoes#and my dad has actual literal podiatry issues and he is harder on shoes than anyone I've ever mey#met*#like. buying a new set of sneakers and/or hiking boots nearly annually bc he's worn through them and stuff. he's that hard on shoes#and he has had THE SAME PAIR of these sandals LITERALLY since before my sister was born. so like. OVER 14 years at this point#so like... seems like a worthy investment to me#better than buying a new set of cheap $20 sandals every year yknow??#I told myself that once I saved up a certain amount of money following my Florida trip I could buy a good set of shoes#I just need backup lol bc I'm gonna have to justify myself to my parents who hate it when I spend ANY money sksksksks#Lu rambles#adulthood woes

also as a society plagued by wealth inequality and rising cost of living we really need to address how we show love through money. like I offered to come over to help them decorate their new house so many times and they kept refusing me 😞 I wanted to help them paint! but noooooooo
#like I get it she's a control freak and she just wanted her husband to do the painting#but I dunno it's like. that is something i would have enjoyed doing and I'd rather do twenty different odd jobs around your new house#than scroll an amazon registry#and I get that I should just shut up and fork over the cash and just accept it gracefully ...#and to be very clear that is what I am doing. that is what I did. I already ordered an item off their registry.#but I dunno I just wish there was a way to show a sense of community outside of money#can't bring them food because she has gestationaldiabetes and has to watch her diet and idk what she can eat#can't help them set uo their house because she was being a control freak about it#can't watch the baby once theyre born for her because I don't know how to do that (lol)#can't come over and clean for her once the baby is here because she already told me she doesnt want ppl doing that#so instead I just have to stare at my budget knowing that the money is almost inconsequential to them but precious to me#and just have to decide how cheap I can stretch my grocery budget to compensate#I just hate how this is the only venue I am given to like. support my friend through pregnancy. anyways.#it's not about me whatever yeah yeah but if I'm so goddamn gracious and understanding and compassionate and caring IRL I need somewhere to#come vent my dark bitter underbelly thoughts. and that is tumblr dot com.

Books of 2023: THE SOUTHERN REACH TRILOGY by Jeff VanderMeer. VanderMeer writes exactly my cup of tea: Weird, fucked up shit with a biological bent, and I am 100% Here For It. I held off on acquiring this trilogy for a weirdly long time, all things considered, but then I found it serendipitously at the Half Price Books where I used to work and I figured it was a sign. Then my excuse was saving it For The Right Time™, which turned out to be during Driscoll revisions (channeling big Weird Vibes over here, and the lighthouse thing is a nice bonus Rell touch), so here we are. I’m currently partway through AUTHORITY and I’m shrieking internally pretty much nonstop.
Unfortunately: The fact that it’s all in one volume means I’m under absolutely no obligation to stop reading, ever, and this is Not Good for me or my bedtimes. But I’m having a great time, and that’s what’s important, right??
