On that trojan war au thing you're writing. 1. What are the tags for it, cause I'm super interested! And would love to read what you have so far! 2. "And Odysseus is a much grimmer darker man due to his home being one of the places that were first swallowed up by Erebus" - I wanna know more about this. Please tell me more.
Oh , wow, I'm so flattered! I'm very happy it sounds appealing to you <33 This work is a huge passion project of mine so I'm always glad to talk more and more about it, especially since there are many aspects occurring in the background (such as the alternate fates of the main players of the Trojan Conflict) which I cannot properly cover or even explain within the events of the novel itself.
That said: 1) If you mean tags as in ao3 - unfortunately, this work isn't on ao3 my friend :( As I said above, these are elements and concepts in the greek mythology based-fantasy novel I'm currently writing (the concept of which I outlined here in the introductory post of my novel concept!) As for wanting to read whatever writing I currently have available: I currently have three fics available on ao3 that are written in my Pursuing Daybreak verse!
The Prince and Princess series deal with a young Apollo and Artemis and the many consequences they face after Apollo has slain Python. The two works uploaded right now are Exeunt Phoebus Apollo which covers the murder trial of Python and Manent Apanchomene Artemis which covers the intense feelings of helplessness and alienation Artemis experiences after Apollo returns from his banishment and is completely changed. Both of these have themes of family, grief and relationship exploration at their heart.
The third bit of writing I have up is quite outdated but does cover the immediate aftermath of Hyacinthus' death. It's called A Petal Falleth and features Apollo making one of those Big Silly Decisions that have completely unintended but extremely important consequences: namely, instead of the larkspurs being made of Hyacinthus' spilt blood, Apollo anchors the boy's soul to the flowers so Thanatos wouldn't take him. Like the Dawn is also set in this world but because it is nsfw in nature, I wouldn't recommend it as easily as the other three bits of writing. If you don't mind the whole naked men thing though, I'd definitely suggest reading Like the Dawn for a better idea of what my current writing is like (along with eventually getting to see characters like Hector, Andromache and Cassandra/Helenus) Like the Dawn's themes are also different to the other three works with it focusing more on the power dynamics of a god/mortal relationship, exploring masculinity and masculine sexuality and self discovery.
The running theme here, of course, is that all of these bits of writing are centered on Apollo/Artemis or Hyacinth because my novel itself is centered around them. There are, of course, other important characters and figures like Eros, Psyche, Penthesilea and Iaso (one of Asclepius' daughters) but while there is the definite presence of characters from the Trojan War they most certainly aren't at the center of the novel (and the ones that are aren't the Greeks but rather the Trojans i.e Hector, Alexander, Andromache, Cassandra, Helenus, Aeneas, so on and so forth.)
2) The basis of the apocalypse in my work is cosmological! Due to Apollo's err-- untimely departure, there's no longer anyone maintaining the axis of the heavens or the navel of the earth. Because of this, Erebus - whose darkness is usually kept firmly in the spaces between the realms - begins to spill out into both the heavens and the earth. The beasts of Erebus (referring primarily to the Seven Curses - Old Age, Misery, Deceit, Violence etc etc) consume, torment and destroy whatever is inside of Erebus' darkness and Ithaca, as one of the islands on the far edge of the world, was one of the very first places that were devoured in this manner. Odysseus was visiting the Argives at the time for a festival and had left the pregnant Penelope at home since he didn't want her to suffer through the voyage in discomfort. He only finds out about the destruction of Ithaca after it had already been consumed when Athena personally interrupts a feast to warn both him and Diomedes. Needless to say, Odysseus, like everyone else, assumes that everyone on Ithaca has died and thusly is a very, very different man in terms of humour and comport. A part of him still stubbornly clings to the belief that Penelope managed to escape - that she was smart and resourceful enough to see the end approaching and do her best to escape - but that doesn't stop him from being dour for the majority of the time. Diomedes does his best to keep his spirits up in the meantime. Without him around, Odysseus is something of a black hole when it comes to the oppressiveness of his discontent though he does manage to lighten up when in the company of Helen, Clytemnestra and even Menelaus on occasion.
#ginger answers asks#ginger chats about greek myths#Diomedes did a lot to coax Odysseus out of his initial shock when Athena delivered the news#Pretty much the only thing that stuck was Ody getting into the habit of whittling wooden horses and ships#He used to speak to Penelope's stomach and tell a bunch of stories about his youth and adventures#Now he speaks to himself while he's whittling because it makes him feel like he's still speaking to Telemachus#Ody doesn't grieve Penelope at all btw He refuses to behave like she's dead until the gods personally tell him or he sees a body#DIomedes very much thinks it's unhealthy and is very worried for his bestie but he's very deliberately left that topic for Helen#and Clytemnestra to deal with. Like he punches things he can't really do that for Ody's mental health alas#pursuing daybreak posting#The Seven Curses all have names btw#And Erebus isn't really doing anything malevolently either#The gods carved the world sky and ocean out of the darkness - it's their responsibility to maintain it#Of course Nyx and Himera originally held the job of keeping Erebus' darkness at bay#But that power is one that's been broken up and passed down between the generations to prevent precisely this event from happening#Nyx's Night and Himera's Day was first given to Ouranos so he could govern the boundary between the world and the darkness without fail#Ouranos' daughters received Night - specifically Theia and Phoebe#and his sons received Day - namely Hyperion and Coeus#Apollo - ever the overachiever however - ends up being overwhelmingly endowed with these attributes and then some considering#he also gets Delphi - the center of the earth - when he slays Python#So when he errr left to get some milk so to speak - the entire order of things went with him#The remaining balance-keepers are Hecate and Artemis and both of them are Night which is too close to Erebus anyway#So y'know things aren't good like at all LMFAO#Anyway I talked a lot - thank you very much again for asking!! If you have any more questions let me know :D#ginger rambles#odysseus#apollo#erebus#diomedes#greek mythology

Macaque would allow Azure to distanced Bai He away? She already suffered enough for the new boyfriend of her adoptive father to push her away or put limitations...
Well, if not really? I mean it depends on how Macaque feels towards Bai he when they find her. Macaque would immediately take them in, but Azure would set boundaries that only meant that Bai he wouldn't be too far from them, but also wouldn't be clinging and keeping Macaque away from him.
So it's not like he's making rules that forbid Bai he from treating them like parents. It's more like he wants her to treat them like friends she can relax with, and not keep Macaque away from him for long.

Thea's Extended Family Session | Tsawwassen Photographer
These lovely grandparents were gifted a photo session with their grandkids :)
As fall creeps in, I’m still getting to relive the summer days by sharing all of my beautiful photo sessions from August! For this particular session, Thea gifted her parents with a photography session with their grandkids (such a fun idea!) and we met up on a lovely and warm afternoon at Centennial Beach. You would think that a session with 5 kids (4 boys in the mix) would be a little chaotic,…

A fun prospect for Superhero-themed SV AU's that I don't often see is genre dissonance. Like, Luo Binghe as this edgy 90's style antihero who just straight up kills his enemies and sleeps around and is driven by selfish motives (revenge, ambition, etc) rather than altruistic morality, vs Shen Qingqiu as this kid-friendly supervillain who is "evil" mostly in terms of aesthetics and his ability to make inconvenient problems that are reasonably safe for child heroes to solve. Something like Punisher vs Team Rocket in terms of vibes.
Maybe the reason they meet is because some big publishing house akin to Marvel or DC just bought up the rights to whole bunch of older, discontinued comics titles, and decided to do a Justice League/Avengers style mash-up with a bunch of nostalgia properties and their most recognizable heroes and villains. Which means lots of crossovers condensing several titles into a handful of series.
Luo Binghe's origin always features him as a teenager, so he reboots as the youngest Avenger-equivalent team member in the new continuity. Even in this reboot, however, the writers still mostly go the gritty and dark route with his plots and stick to the same key developments -- his abandonment as an infant, his adoptive mother's tragic death, his tough life on the streets, abusive mentors and backstabbing "allies", and so on.
But Luo Binghe's life suddenly starts experiencing periods of dramatic change in his life when he's brought in for appearances in the lighter, friendlier world of the Junior Heroes continuity. After all, he's a natural choice for tying the two continuities together thanks to his youthfulness. Luo Binghe isn't consciously aware of the fact that he's moving between different titles and different writers. All he knows is that sometimes, when he hangs out with the bright and talented Ning Yingying, he's drawn into "conflicts" with Shen Qingqiu -- the kind of "villain" who will call for tea breaks, never actually hits anyone when he shoots his ray gun, leaves clues for all of his crimes, and can't seem to stop from imparting genuinely helpful advice in between his witty quips and taunts.
When Luo Binghe fights Shen Qingqiu, somehow he never actually gets hurt. Neither do any of his friends. The world in general seems brighter and lighter, as if there is some secret barrier protecting everyone from all the evils Binghe knows only too well exist in the rest of his life. Luo Binghe is increasingly convinced that Shen Qingqiu is the source of this mystical safety net. After all, for an allegedly powerful genius who is able to fool half the world about his wicked aims, he's never won a single fight against a kindhearted but somewhat ditzy teenager and her ragtag bunch of friends!
So what's he spending his actual energy on?
Luo Binghe is pretty sure it's keeping the real evils at bay. Making himself the biggest bad in town, and in doing that, making it so that the "biggest bad" is nothing worse than a slightly judgmental teacher in a pretty costume.
It's not long before Luo Binghe doesn't want to go back to the Justice League equivalent, to his world of misery and strife, even after his visits with Ning Yingying are supposed to be over. Especially as the global stakes of various heroic activities start getting higher, and it becomes clear that the boundary between Shen Qingqiu's safe world and the grimdark reality of Binghe's usual life are getting thinner...

You sit around the kitchen table of the cozy cabin, the glow of the moonlight spilling in through the windows, casting shadows across the well-worn Monopoly board. The laughter and banter of the evening's game slowly die down as the last few hotel properties are snatched up, and the bank is declared bankrupt. Your brother Nate, and his best friends, grin at each other, the competitive spirit still lingering in the air. It's late, and the yawns start to take over, signaling the end of the night.
The cabin's wooden floorboards creak as everyone heads to their designated sleeping areas. The fireplace crackles, casting a warm, flickering light across the room. You settle into your bed, but the excitement of the day keeps sleep at bay. The rustling of blankets and muffled snores from your brother's room reminds you that you're not the only one who remains restless.
The whispers of the night beckon you and you find yourself tiptoeing to the bedroom door. You peek into the hallway, noticing a sliver of light seeping out from under Matt's door. Curiosity piqued, you ease the door open to find him sitting on the edge of the bed, shirtless, staring at the floor. "Can't sleep either?" he asks, looking up and catching your gaze.
"Yeah, it's like my brain won't shut up," you admit, stepping into the room. "Wanna go outside for some fresh air?"
Matt nods, a glint in his eye. "How about we play a game to pass the time?"
Intrigued, you follow him out into the cool night, the crunch of gravel underfoot. The moon casts a silver path down to the lake, where the water laps gently against the shore. The air is alive with the scent of pine and the distant sound of an owl's hoot.
"Okay, I'll chase you," he says with a smirk, "and if I catch you, I win."
You laugh, thinking it's just a way to burn off some energy. "What do I get if I win?"
"We'll see," he teases, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Ready or not, here I come!"
And with that, he's off, his sneakers pounding the ground as he sprints towards you. You squeal, the thrill of the chase igniting your senses. As you dart away from him, the night air feels alive with electricity, your heart pounding in your chest. This is the kind of thrill you live for, the kind that makes you feel alive.
The game starts innocently enough, the two of you weg through the trees, laughing and panting. But as the minutes tick by, the adrenaline turns into something else. Something you've felt simmering between you for a while now, something you've been too scared to acknowledge. The wind carries the scent of him, a tantalizing mix of aftershave and pure masculine energy. Your skin tingles with anticipation, and you start to feel the heat building deep within you.
Matt's breath is hot on your neck as he catches up, his strong hands grabbing you around the waist. You gasp, feeling his solid body pressed against yours, the game turning into something much more primal. You can feel the heat of his body overcome yours, and it sends a shockwave through your core. This isn't just a game anymore; it's a dance of desire that you're both eager to explore.
He whispers in your ear, his voice thick with lust, "I win."
With a firm grip, he spins you around and pushes you to your knees. You look up at him, a mix of fear and excitement swirling in your eyes. He's serious. The gravity of the moment hits you like a ton of bricks, but you don't resist. You want this. You've wanted this for a long time.
He unbuckles his belt, the metal clinking in the stillness of the night, and unzips his pants, pulling out his hard cock. "You know how this goes," he murmurs, stroking himself, watching you with a hungry gaze. "You're gonna let me use that pretty little throat?"
Your heart races as you lean in, your mouth watering despite the fear. You wrap your lips around him, and he groans, his hand tangling in your hair. He's not gentle, pushing deeper into your mouth, his grip tightening with every moan. The taste of him fills your senses, a mix of salt and earth, and you can't help but feel a twinge of excitement. This isn't how you thought this night would go, but the way he's looking at you, the way he's holding you, it's like he's claiming you, and it turns you on more than you ever thought possible.
You try to keep up, but he's too much for you. You gag, and he laughs, a dark sound that sends shivers down your spine. "Look at you," he says, "such a good little slut, take it." Spit trails down your chin, and your eyes water, but you don't stop. You can't. The thrill of it all is too intense.
"I bet Nate never knew what a whore you are," he murmurs, his voice low aging. "Letting me fuck your mouth out here like some cheap hooker." His words are like a slap in the face, but they only serve to make you wetter. Your eyes narrow as your brows chisel in, but you're his, and you're letting him do this to you. It's a power play, and you're both acutely aware of it.
"Oh, you're mad?" He laughs. The sound of branches underfoot in the distance makes your heart leap. "Better hurry up," he says, his eyes glinting with excitement, "or Chris might find you like this and want a taste" The thought sends a jolt of fear and arousal through you. "Oh, but you'd love that, being used by both your brother's best friends?" Your mind races. What would Nate think if he found you like this? What would Nick do? The possibility of getting caught only adds to the thrill.
Matt's hand moves to your chin, holding it in a firm grip as he fucks your mouth harder, faster. "Take it, baby," he growls, his hips bucking against your face. "You like it, huh?" You nod, unable to speak with his cock lodged in your throat, you mumble around his shaft. You do love it. The degradation, the power he has over you in this moment, it's intoxicating.
Finally, with a grunt, he pulls out, coming all over your face and chest. You collapse back onto the ground, gasping for air, your heart racing and your eyes like storms behind shed tears. He wipes his dick off your shirt, smiling down at you like he's just conquered the world. "You've always been mine, don’t get mad now," he says, his voice full of satisfaction. He leans down, his hand on your jaw suddenly pulls away and the sing on your face is accompanied by the hot spit thrown at you. "Mine to use whenever I want."
The night air is thick with the scent of sex and sweat, and you can't help but feel a little bit used. But you don't care. You're his, and that's all that matters. The tension between you is palpable, the line between friendship and something darker is now irrevocably blurred. You wipe your mouth with the back of your hand, tasting him on your lips, and wonder if this is the start of something new.
As you both catch your breath, the sound of footsteps grows louder. Panic flares in your chest. "we have to get back." You stumble to your feet, your legs wobbly from the intense experience. Matt chuckles, tucking himself back into his pants.
Together, you sneak back towards the cabin, your heart pounding in your ears. As you enter the cabin, you see the light from Nate's room is now off. Did he hear you? Did he know what was happening outside?
You slip into your bed, your body still humming with desire, your mind racing with thoughts of what's to come. The lines between friendship and lust have been crossed, and there's no going back.

Mc accidently got splashed with a (obsessive) "love potion" and she falls in giddy love with first person she lays her eyes on.
All she wants to do is give them kisses and hugs...and yea she also is clingy and she follows them around even duuring class. She is ready to do anything for her "love" ( like whatever they ask of her) she wants them to be happy . She is convinced that they are dating and it's honestly pointless to try and explain things to her.
How would Azul, Jamil, Malleus, Duece and Floyd hanndle the situation/what's their reaction? ( they were not dating before )
Azul Ashengrotto:
Azul was doomed by yet another situation he couldn’t see himself out of. He hardly knows how to handle you normally, or rather how to handle his feelings for you, but you’re much harder when you’re like this. Having you clinging to his side and demanding his attention made it impossible for him to concentrate, and feelings be damned he wasn’t going to let his business suffer. Since Jade and Floyd refused to escort you from his office (finding Azul’s flustered face and inability to actually push you away the best comedy bit they’d seen in years) he ordered them to instead find a cure for the nightmarish love potion that ailed you. They do agree but take longer than they need to, wanting Azul to endure his torturous thoughts a bit longer.
Deuce Spade:
You have poor Deuce stressed OUT. He’s too worried about your well-being to hear any of Ace’s teasing, also focused on keeping his lips covered in case of another surprise attack. He wouldn’t mind under normal circumstances but this doesn’t feel genuine (and he had a much more romantic first kiss in mind for the two of you). He boldly confided in his seniors about you in hopes of them helping with a solution, tightly holding your hand to keep you at bay. He’s willing to go to any length to cure you, even if he’d miss the closeness.
Floyd Leech:
Floyd is willing to milk this situation for all that it’s worth. He particularly enjoyed the squeezing contest you had, and how tightly you clung to him even after he clearly won. He would have loved to keep you all to himself, using your condition to get out of working at Mostro Lounge as it would be hard to cook with you attached to him like you were. Jade is surprised with how long Floyd indulged your clingy behavior, even when he seemed fed up, he knew if he really wanted to push you away and lock you up so you’d leave him alone, he would do it.
Jamil Viper:
Jamil would have used you for all you were worth if he didn’t have feelings for you. He’s frustrated that yet another responsibility was thrust upon him, but turning his back on you was not a choice under these circumstances. It makes it hard to go about his day when he has two different people bothering him all day, but you proved to be the bigger challenge (for now). If he could concentrate he’d have an easier time of finding a solution but there was a part of him that longed for you to continue to worship him, curious how much of this might mirror your relationship if you ended up dating.
Malleus Draconia:
You had always been more honest with Malleus than others, but this was certainly new. As much as he enjoyed your emboldened behavior it didn’t take him long to detect something was off, leaving him conflicted. He wouldn’t mind having a close relationship like this with you, maybe some more boundaries discussed for the sake of Sebek’s heart and everyone else's eardrums, but he was disappointed to know this wasn’t you acting on ‘real’ feelings. He’s even more suspicious about how and why you were splashed with such a potion to begin with, growing rather possessive at the concept of someone trying to steal your heart away from him.

We all love the beach, right? I sure do. Where the sea meets the land is a magical place. It is the overlap of two very different worlds; our sunny, sandy, beautiful home and the alien waves that beckon you into the inhospitable wilderness of the ocean. When crossing that foam-fringed boundary, one must remember that you are no longer in your world. You are entering the sea, and the sea is vast and dark and dangerous. It is more untamed than the wildest jungle and full of creatures that can kill you in a hundred different gruesome ways. Every wave whispers to you that you do not belong here, you may only visit for a brief time if you want to leave with your life. Hold tight to the warm sunlit sand that fringes the barrier of this place, or you may never see it again. Welcome to the beach. Enter at your own risk.
1. Tamarama beach, Australia
Tumblr media
This is know as both the smallest and the most dangerous beach in NSW. There is a permanent rip current that runs along the rocky northern shore, but at any given time there could be more hidden in the surf. Large waves break just a little ways offshore, posing a hazard to swimmers but an attraction for surfers. Although there are rarely deaths here, lifeguards have to rescue multiple people a day. Interestingly, this beach is only around sometimes! Occasionally all the sand will wash away and all that’s left is a rocky outcrop. There’s no way to be certain when the beach will come back or how big it will be or what it might look like. I guess it never gets boring to visit.
2. Isle of Ré, France
Tumblr media
This island is not the only place you can go to see square waves, but it is one of the places most famous for this strange phenomenon. This is called a cross sea, and occurs when two opposing wave patterns intersect. Although this is certainly a tourist attraction, it is best to observe from a distance, as cross seas can be very dangerous to both ships and swimmers. Cross seas can cause powerful rip currents and walls of water up to 10 feet high, rolling ships and dragging people underwater. (As a side note, my mother thought I had made up cross seas as a freaky supernatural event in my book. Unfortunately, I did not.)
3. Dumas Beach, India
Tumblr media
This is supposedly one of the most haunted places in India. Although this beach is full of tourists during the daytime, no one remains after dark, for fear that they will become the next ghost to wander the sand. Apparently, this beach was once used as a burial ground, and said to be black due to the human ashes mixed in. At night, people report hearing voices and seeing apparitions, and even dogs behave strangely once the sun goes down. There have also been multiple unexplained disappearances and at least one recorded death. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, there definitely seems to be something eerie happening on this beach.
4. Morecambe Bay, UK
Tumblr media
This is an interesting one, as it’s not technically the water that’s dangerous. The ground is. This estuary features extreme tides, with the water level dropping and rising up to 32 feet twice a day. This exposes an expanse of mud flats and channels which are composed of loose, wet material that can absolutely suck you in and trap you. If this happens when the tide is coming in, it can quickly turn deadly. This has happened many times going back through history, including one incident in 2004 where 23 people died. Yes, all at the same time. No, I don’t want to delve into that incident too deeply in this list as it’s extremely horrifying and tragic. Feel free to research it yourself.
5. Monastery Beach, Oregon
Tumblr media
This has earned its nickname “mortuary beach” by being extremely dangerous. Over 30 people have died here, including people who weren’t even in the water. In 2015, a woman walking along the beach was dragged in by a wave and drowned. The beach has multiple factors that make it so deadly, including a steep drop off, unpredictable waves, and strong undertows. This beach isn’t even safe to walk on. I um. Don’t like that.
6. Hanakapiai Beach, Hawaii
Tumblr media
Despite its beauty, this Hawaiian beach is not recommended for swimming except for expert surfers. During the summer, this beach is a popular place for hiking, sunbathing and sightseeing, but during the winter the sand is washed away and the waves crash against the cliffs directly. Even in the relatively safe summer months, this beach has no barrier reef to break up the strong waves and powerful currents, which leads to a dangerous situation where swimmers can quickly be swept out into the open ocean and drown. At least 30 people have died here, and 15 of the bodies have never been recovered.
7. Lake Michigan. Just, all of it.
Tumblr media
Despite all the Great Lakes being somewhat terrifying, Michigan takes the title of the most dangerous lake in the country. Yearly, Lake Michigan has more drownings than all four other Great Lakes combined. The reason that Michigan is especially hazardous is that, well, it’s kind of weirdly shaped. Thanks to its 300+ miles of uninterrupted parallel shorelines running north-south, it forms huge waves and strong riptides and long shore currents. It is also a question of numbers; Lake Michigan has more public beaches and large population centers than the other Great Lakes. All in all, a recipe for disaster.
8. Playa Zipolite, Mexico
Tumblr media
This is also called the “beach of the dead”, so it’s inclusion on this list seems pretty self-explanatory. These waters have strong undercurrents that rotate in a circular pattern, either pushing you into shore or pulling you out to sea. There is a pervasive rumor that 50 people drown at this beach a year, although this is… somewhat exaggerated. In fact, very few people drown at this beach these days, as it has actually gotten less dangerous over the years. There used to be a steep drop-off that would catch people by surprise, but due to several severe storms in the early 2000s, the beach has eroded back and now gently slopes down instead. Although very few people die at this beach nowadays, multiple rescues are performed every day due to the dangerous currents.
9. Cyclops, Australia
This is a particular type of wave that forms off the coast of Esperance, Australia, as the sea floor rapidly goes from deep, open water to a very very shallow reef. It is… unsettling. The longer I look at it, the weirder it gets. It’s like an ai generated image. I couldn’t even pick one picture of it so I made you a collage.
Tumblr media
It is considered one of the most dangerous surf spots in the world, and can only be accessed by boat. To quote pacific surf dot com, “the reason the wave is dangerous is because it does not act like any other wave in the world. It engulfs itself due to the massive change in the ocean floor when the wave rolls up.”
10. Nazare, Portugal
Tumblr media
This area of Portugal is home to some of the biggest waves in the world. Just offshore is an underwater canyon, plunging down to 16,000 ft deep. This allows large, fast deep-water waves to move into shore unimpeded, and when they hit the shallows close to shore all the water gets suddenly pushed up, resulting in waves up to 80 ft tall. I think the picture speaks for itself in this case. Probably best to not get in the water if you see that shit.
That was fun, wasn’t it? Before I go, let me end this on a different note than the rest of my lists; some actual advice for if you should you ever decide to visit these beaches (or any beach, really). Rip currents are incredibly strong (believe me, I know) but very narrow currents that run perpendicular to shore. To get out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore. Trying to fight the current will just tire you out and eventually leave you exhausted and way the fuck out in the ocean, which is typically when you die. Swimming parallel to shore will get you out of the current, and once you’re free you can swim back in at your leisure. And, just in general, never fight the sea. The sea will win.

He’d spent too many years living a different kind of life-one built around routines of survival, discipline, and a level of alertness that never quite faded.
Now, back in Texas, he carried that constant vigilance like a second skin.
He’d settled in a small, secluded home just outside of Austin.
The area was quiet, isolated, the kind of place where nobody asked too many questions.
The locals respected boundaries, and Joel had made his clear. He kept to himself, lived a simple life, and preferred things that way.
People complicated things—something he wasn’t interested in anymore.
Most of his days followed a routine that he clung to with the same intensity he had in the service.
Early mornings were spent with coffee and silence, the smell of pine trees drifting through the windows of his old, weathered cabin.
Afterward, he'd take to the woods, either hunting or just walking trails he knew as well as the lines in his hands.
Out there, he could let his mind focus on something tangible—the tracks of a deer, the feel of the rifle in his hand.
There, his senses sharpened again, always on alert.
Joel’s awareness never dulled, not even after all these years.
Every noise, every shift in the wind or crunch of leaves beneath his boots, kept him on edge.
He was always scanning his surroundings, ready to react.
He knew it wasn’t just about the hunt.
It was the way his brain had been wired, after all the years of needing to be ready—whether it was for survival or something worse.
It wasn’t paranoia, just the reality of a mind that had been trained for danger. He told himself.
He didn't see many people. He didn’t want to.
But the thing about always being on edge was that it left little room for rest.
At night, the memories clawed their way in—images he’d rather forget but couldn’t.
Sleep was shallow and rare.
Even when he managed to drift off, he was often jolted awake by some phantom noise or sensation.
And once he was up, it was hard to shake the feeling that something or someone was out there.
He’d get up, check the locks, sometimes even patrol the perimeter of his land just to make sure.
In the quiet of his cabin, with only the crackling of a fire or the hum of the wind for company,
Joel would pour himself a drink.
Whiskey, usually. Something to dull the noise in his head, to take the edge off the constant tension that never quite left him.
But he never drank too much. He couldn’t afford to. He needed to stay sharp, always ready—just in case.
His life wasn’t complicated, and he liked it that way. He didn’t need company or connection, not anymore.
He kept things simple: survival, routine, and the solitude of the Texas wilderness.
It asked nothing of him, and in return, he didn’t have to share the parts of himself he’d buried long ago.
· · ─────
Waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat had become part of his routine, and after tossing and turning for hours, Joel would get up, make coffee, and try to focus on the small tasks that anchored him.
The sun was just beginning to rise as Joel Miller pushed the key into the ignition of his truck, the familiar rumble beneath him a small comfort in an otherwise uneasy world.
He had always been an early riser, but lately, the habit had turned into more of a necessity.
Driving out into the quiet Texas morning was one of those tasks.
The roads were mostly empty, and Joel preferred it that way—less to watch for, less noise, fewer things to trust.
He liked things simple.
Routine. Predictable.
After everything, it was easier to stick to what he knew, to keep the world at arm's length.
It was safer.
His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white as his eyes flicked from side to side, scanning the road ahead and the landscape around him.
There was no telling who or what could be out there, even in a sleepy Texas town.
He wasn’t stupid enough to let his guard down, not after everything he'd seen.
Trust was a currency he couldn’t afford to spend, not anymore.
He kept the radio off, preferring the silence. It gave him space to think, to process.
Most of the time, though, it just made him more aware of the quietness around him.
Every little creak or snap of a twig was magnified, every shadow cast by the rising sun something to take note of.
He didn't trust the peaceful exterior of the world anymore.
Too much could change in an instant.
It was exhausting, always being on edge like that, but Joel had learned to live with it.
He couldn’t imagine doing things any other way.
As he drove further down the road toward the camping&outdoor supply store, he caught a glimpse of something moving in the distance—a flicker of motion between the trees.
His heart quickened, and his foot instinctively lifted off the gas pedal.
He slowed down just enough to check the rearview mirror, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the tree line.
Nothing. It could’ve been an animal, but Joel’s mind didn’t let him settle on that.
Even when he convinced himself it was probably just wildlife, he remained alert, tension rippling through his muscles.
"Could be anything," he muttered under his breath, gripping the wheel tighter. "Ain't takin' chances."
The camping store was a bit of a drive, but Joel didn’t mind.
The solitude of the open road helped him clear his head, as much as his thoughts would let him, anyway.
Hunting was something he could still rely on.
He didn't need anyone else for it, and it gave him an excuse to get away from people.
He wasn’t much for conversation these days, always keeping interactions short and transactional.
He liked the supply store too; the guy who ran it knew not to ask too many questions, just handled the sale and let Joel be.
It suited him fine.
As the store came into view, Joel exhaled, his mind already running through what he needed to pick up.
The truck tires crunched against the gravel as he pulled into the lot, parking in a spot that allowed him a clear view of the entrance and the surrounding area.
Old habits.
Joel turned off the ignition and leaned back in the seat, taking a moment to observe the store.
His hand absentmindedly reached toward the glove compartment, where his gun was stashed, just in case. He didn’t need it often, but knowing it was there kept him grounded.
After a few seconds of scanning the area and feeling satisfied that nothing was amiss, he stepped out of the truck.
The supply store wasn’t busy, just a couple of people browsing inside.
As Joel stepped into the store, the familiar scent of leather and canvas greeted him. Country music hummed low in the background, and the quiet atmosphere brought him a sense of calm.
The simplicity of the place was something he appreciated—straightforward, nothing complicated.
Just the way he liked it.
His boots thudded softly on the wooden floor as he made his way toward the back, scanning the shelves for the hunting gear he needed. It was his routine, one he kept to himself.
The sudden crash jolted him like a gunshot.
Joel’s instincts took over, his body reacting before his mind caught up.
His hand flew to his side, fingers brushing the handle of the knife he always kept on him. His eyes darted around the store, scanning for threats, muscles coiled tight and ready.
He felt that old familiar rush of adrenaline—the kind that came from years of having to be on guard every second.
His heart pounded, the edges of his vision sharpening as he prepared for the worst.
But then, he saw her.
Just a girl. Bending over, trying to gather the gear she’d knocked to the floor. No threat. No danger. Just her.
Joel exhaled slowly, the tension easing out of his shoulders as the world settled back into place.
He let go of the knife, though his pulse still hammered in his ears. He hadn’t been expecting someone like her to trigger that reaction. Not here. Not now.
But for some reason, he couldn’t look away.
She was clumsy, but calm—no panic, no rush to fix what she’d done.
It was as if she was used to things slipping from her hands, not bothered in the slightest. That softness, that ease, it drew him in like nothing else had in a long time.
And even though the tension from the noise had faded, he found himself still rooted to the spot, watching her.
His eyes trailed over her, catching the way her long, soft looking, hair tumbled down her back, how her tender fingers fumbled with the items before her.
She was a mess of soft edges, and he hadn’t seen anything that soft in years.
He’s not used to that.
His world had become hard, sharp, filled with things that made sense, with people who didn’t get too close.
People like him, always on edge, always prepared.
She stood up, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, and for the first time, Joel saw her face.
Young. Too young. Early twenties, maybe.
Her cheeks were flushed a soft pink, her lips parted in what looked like mild embarrassment as she glanced around at the mess she had made.
But it was her eyes that hit him the hardest.
Doe eyed, wide, bright, completely unguarded.
So easy to read.
She looked right at him, her gaze catching his, and Joel’s breath hitched in his chest.
What was this girl doing? Looking at him like that?
She wasn’t supposed to look at him that way—not with that kind of openness, that kind of… trust.
Her blush deepened as her gaze flickered to the ground, but not before Joel saw it creep up her neck, warming her face.
She was blushing because of him.
When was the last time that happened?
“Oh! Sorry,” she said, her voice light, soft, but not the irritating kind of soft.
It was smooth in a way that made something settle in Joel’s chest. Normally, he hated small talk.
People’s voices grated on him. But hers didn’t.
Her voice wrapped around him, warm and gentle, and for reasons he couldn’t explain, Joel didn’t hate it.
“I didn’t see you there,” she continued, letting out a nervous laugh, her hands brushing against the fallen gear.
“I swear, I’m always knocking things over.” She smiled shyly, that blush still clinging to her cheeks, and Joel’s chest tightened again.
She was yapping—just rambling on in a way that would’ve made him turn his back on anyone else. But he couldn’t move.
He was locked in place, listening to her soft, musical voice as if it was something he hadn’t heard in years.
Maybe because it was. Maybe because no one ever talked to him like this anymore.
Most people avoided him.
They saw the hard set of his jaw, the cold glint in his eyes, and they stayed far, far away.
And that was just how he liked it. Less mess, less trouble.
But not her. She was still standing there, babbling about how clumsy she was, her voice a soft hum in his ears.
Joel felt something shift inside him, something he wasn’t sure he liked. He didn’t know her.
Shouldn’t care about her babbling, or the way her scent—something fresh and sweet—drifted toward him, making his head swim.
But here he was, standing there, drinking in her voice, her scent, like he hadn’t been around anyone like her in years.
Which, to be fair, he hadn’t.
Joel cleared his throat, forcing himself to speak, though his voice came out rougher than he’d intended. “Don’t worry ‘bout it,” he muttered, his words gruff, but his feet still rooted to the spot.
Her smile widened, and her eyes lit up.
The warmth in them caught him off guard. He wasn’t prepared for that.
“Thanks for not laughing at me,” she said with a small, bashful laugh, her fingers fiddling with the edge of her jacket. “Most people would’ve.”
Joel’s brow furrowed. “Why would I laugh?”
She shrugged, glancing at the gear still scattered on the floor. “I’m kind of a mess.”
Her words didn’t sit right with him. How could someone like her—someone so soft, so full of light—call herself a mess? He is a mess.
But before he could respond, she smiled again, her lips curving up in that sweet way that made his chest tighten all over again.
And that scent… God, he couldn’t place it, but it clung to her, swirling around him like a warm blanket.
His mind raced, cataloging every little detail about her.
Her soft pretty eyes. The way her smile made the corners of her eyes crinkle just a little. The way she smelled, like fresh air and something sweet. Vanilla?
He was reading her, studying her like he used to study his surroundings, picking up on every detail.
But none of it made sense. She didn’t make sense.
Normally, he’d be long gone by now. His thoughts already moving on.
But she was still talking, still smiling up at him, and instead of walking away, he just… stared.
She cleared her throat again, glancing down at her hands before looking back up at him.
“Do you work around here?” she asked, her voice a little softer now, a little shyer.
Joel blinked, realizing he hadn’t said a damn thing in what felt like minutes.
He shook his head. “Nah, just pickin’ up some things.” His voice sounded foreign to him—rough, cold, not at all the kind of tone that matched the warmth she was giving him.
But she didn’t seem bothered by it. Instead, she tilted her head slightly, her lips curving up in that smile again.
“Oh, cool. What are you picking up?”
Joel stared at her, unsure of why she was still talking to him, still smiling at him.
But he found himself answering her anyway. “Just some gear. Hunting stuff.”
Her eyes brightened, her smile widening even more. “Oh, hunting! That’s cool. I’ve never been, but I always thought it seemed kind of… peaceful, you know? Just you and nature.”
Peaceful? Joel had never thought of hunting as peaceful. Necessary, sure. But peaceful? Not in the way she was describing.
He grunted, not sure how to respond, but she just kept smiling, her voice still light, still soft.
“Oh, gosh,” she said, standing up with a bundle of fallen gear in her hands, a sheepish smile on her face. “I could never hurt an animal, though. I don’t know how people do it. Like, I get hunting and all, but... me? No way. I’d be useless out there.”
Joel’s brow furrowed, still caught between the sharp edge of his earlier reaction and the softness of her voice.
“Right,” he muttered, nodding slightly, feeling more awkward than he had in years.
“Well,” Joel grunted, his voice a little rougher than intended, “it ain’t about enjoyin’ it. It’s necessary. You do what you gotta do.”
And for the life of him, Joel couldn’t understand why he didn’t just walk away.
He should’ve. He should’ve grabbed what he needed and left.
But something about her—her scent, her smile, her softness—kept him rooted in place.
He wasn’t good at this. Talking. Interacting. Especially not with someone like her—someone who looked at him like he wasn’t something to be avoided.
But she was smiling at him, her eyes wide and innocent, like she wasn’t aware of how the world really worked.
Before he could say anything else, he saw her blush deepen, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her jacket.
She was nervous, but not in the way people usually got around him.
She wasn’t scared. She wasn’t backing away.
She was blushing because of him.
Hm?
As the awkward silence stretched between them, Joel cleared his throat, the sound rough and abrupt.
He hadn’t realized how long he’d been standing there, just staring at her while she kept talking, her soft voice filling the space between them.
He needed to go.
This whole interaction had lasted far too long, longer than he was comfortable with.
His chest tightened with a mix of confusion and frustration, and he could feel the tension creeping into his limbs, urging him to move, to walk away.
She was still smiling at him, her eyes bright, completely unaware of the storm brewing inside him.
“Right,” Joel muttered, his voice gruffer than he intended.
“I should… get goin’.” He nodded awkwardly toward the hunting gear in his hand, using it as an excuse to leave.
Her smile faltered for just a second, her eyes flickering with a hint of confusion.
“Oh, sure! No problem,” she said quickly, her voice still sweet, but there was something softer in it now, like she wasn’t quite sure what she’d done wrong.
Joel could feel her eyes on him as he turned away, the tension in his shoulders growing with every step he took.
He forced himself to keep walking, not allowing himself to glance back, not letting himself think about the way her scent still lingered in the air around him.
As he pushed open the door of the shop, the cool air hit his face, a stark contrast to the warmth that had been building inside him.
He needed to get out of there. Now.
“Have a good day!” she called after him, her voice still light, still warm.
Joel didn’t respond.
He just kept walking, his boots heavy against the gravel as he made his way to his truck, his mind already trying to shove the whole interaction into the back of his mind.
It shouldn’t have affected him like that.
Joel climbed into his truck, the door creaking as it shut with a heavy thud.
The sun was setting, casting a golden light over the horizon, but his mind was somewhere else entirely.
His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white as he sat there, staring straight ahead.
He let out a slow breath, trying to shake off the strange feeling that had settled deep in his chest.
That girl—he couldn’t get her out of his head. It didn’t make sense.
Her smile. The way her cheeks flushed when she looked at him.
The softness in her voice, the way she smelled—fresh, sweet, and somehow... so pure.
His brow furrowed as the memory tugged at him, gnawing at the edges of his mind like an itch he couldn’t scratch.
He hadn’t felt like this in years—hadn’t felt much of anything, to be honest.
And yet, there it was. Something stirring inside him, something he couldn’t ignore.
With a grunt, he turned the key in the ignition, the engine roaring to life.
He needed to get his mind straight, back to reality, back to the things that actually mattered.
Surviving.
Not some girl in a supply shop.
It couldn’t be because of her.
But as he shifted the truck into gear, his grip on the wheel tightened even more.
He couldn’t deny the physical reaction in his body—the tension building low in his gut, the heat rising through his chest.
Joel shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his breath catching for a moment.
He hadn’t even noticed it before, hadn’t allowed himself to.
But now, as he adjusted himself, the realization hit him with a force that nearly knocked the breath out of his lungs.
He was hard.
His heart pounded in his chest, the weight of it settling low in his gut.
How long had it been?
He couldn’t even remember the last time he felt like this, the last time his body reacted this way.
But it couldn’t be because of the girl in the shop, right?
“Jesus.” He clenched his jaw, the muscles in his neck tightening as he fought the urge to dwell on it. “There was no way.”
She was just a kid. I mean, a woman sure. But so young, soft, innocent.
Completely the opposite of everything he was—everything he’d become.
Joel’s grip on the steering wheel tightened even further, his mind racing.
This was wrong. He shouldn’t be thinking about her like this, shouldn’t be feeling this way.
But the more he tried to push it down, the more it rose to the surface.
Her voice, the way she’d blushed when she looked at him, the scent of her clinging to the air around her like a warmth he hadn’t known he needed.
Joel shifted again, trying to shake the thoughts from his head. He’d drive home, clear his mind, and forget about it.
Forget about her.
But as he drove down the empty road, the tension in his body only seemed to build. It had been years. Years since anyone, or anything, had made him feel like this.
And the truth gnawed at him, whether he wanted to admit it or not.
It was because of her.

Hi! Can you do each lad boy on how they would be with a sensitive reader? (As in like they are emotional and get their feelings hurt easily and stuff)
Tumblr media
im combining these two bc they are very sim to me <3
Tumblr media
Zayne is very good with your feelings, thankfully. He learned very quickly what sorts of things upset you - not by doing them himself but simply by asking you what your boundaries are. That means typically, he's not the one who's going to be hurting your feelings unless something very extreme happened.
More likely than not, if you're upset it's either because of something you saw or something someone else said to you. Thankfully he's going to try to comfort you, telling you that whatever they told you doesn't matter because at the end of day you know who you are and that's all that matters. You thank him for helping rationalise your feelings, knowing that you can always depend on him to help you out whenever your feelings are hurt.
When you're watching sad movies Zayne always makes sure he's already holding you. He tucks your head under his chin and wipes away your tears whenever you start tearing up. He thinks it's adorable how touched you are by movies but he'll never say it aloud, worried you'll grow insecure if he points it out.
Tumblr media
Xavier seems a little apathetic when you don't know him as well which means sometimes you worry he doesn't actually like you as much as he says he does. It takes him a bit of time for him to pick up on your insecurity but once he does he's very good at affirming his love for you through his words. He doesn't speak much but when he does he definitely makes sure his affections for you are felt.
He also doesn't shy away from defending you if someone says something to you while the two of you are out. He's more than happy to defend you and make sure that you know that he doesn't think whatever it is that the other person seemed to be insinuating. He'll remove you from the situation and comfort you once things settle down, wanting you to use him as an emotional crutch.
Whenever you watch a movie that makes you sad Xavier's there to wipe your tears away. He lays down with you as the two of you watch, holding you tightly as he tries not to doze off to keep an eye on you. Even when he does the comforting sound of his breathing thankfully helps keep your emotions at bay, letting him hold you as you watch the movie alone.
Tumblr media
Rafayel is a little tough at first because his words can definitely be biting. He's playful and a little harsh at times which means if you take everything he says personally you will not have a good time with him. That doesn't mean that he's going to hurt your feelings on purpose - just that sometimes the things he say might hurt you if he doesn't think about it.
Despite that he's very gentle with your feelings. Once he figures out what sorts of things you don't want to hear he'll be more intentional with his words and reassure you whenever you need it. He also does have lots of pretty words for you which is very great, letting you bask in them if you're having a rough day emotionally.
The two of you get affected by movies, but you more physically than him. Rafayel tends to keep his more intense emotions on the inside but when you're openly reacting to a movie he's there to comfort you however you need to. Whether that be wiping your tears or being a punching bag when you get mad at a character he's there for you.
Tumblr media
Sylus is also hard at first, more so than Rafayel only because he doesn't seem playful about his biting words. If you don't pay attention to the way he looks at you or the softness in his touch towards you then you might not realise that he's actually very deeply in love with you.
He'd have to explain himself to you time and time again and tell you that he does care for you. He definitely does become softer over time but his way of speaking might just be disagreeable if someone is incredibly sensitive. You don't have to doubt his feelings though because he's constantly holding you or trying to kiss you silly, gently teasing you if you're needy and reminding you how much he loves you.
He'll tease you slightly for reacting so strongly to movies but he's the one holding you to his chest and running his thumb over the back of your knuckles. He's comforting you physically even if he's slightly teasing you, reassuring you that you aren't too much for him and he really doesn't mind taking care of you.
