someone replied to my ii and tit thing like what about tatinof, and i just feel like tatinof isn't on the same thematic narrative as ii and tit. tatinof is very explicitly dan and phil playing characters based on themselves, where as ii was SUPPOSEDLY dnp getting "More Real" and then tit was like. the closest on stage they have been to who they actually are. tatinof also has a sort of hero's journey story (albeit a very loose one) whereas ii and tit didnt really have that structure. theyre more like social experiments without a concrete conclusion. dnp intentionally never answer the questions they set out with at the beginning of the two shows (ii: should we give the people what they want?, tit: are we a terrible influence?) there's no fundamental question trying to be answered in tatinof, it is performed as a story of two youtubers who find themselves in a weird internet-explosion dimension and are trying to get back home. this was at a point where dnp werent questioning if they should give the people what they want, because they were going to anyway. they werent thinking about if theyre bad influences because they didnt see themselves as having a huge influence on us in that way, and their audience was still pretty young so they had yet to see how they have influenced us as fully grown adults.
i guess maybe you could think of the existential crisis moment as the questions theyre trying to answer? and the theme of feeling like theyre not in control of their actions and such, but narratively speaking it was dil controlling them. the only part that was truly controlled by the audience was the fanfiction segment, which i feel is appropriate like we're the ones who write that shit lol but even the audience submitted stuff like the support phone line and weird kid things were still somewhat in dnp's control.

Their April Phools this year was surprisingly pretty tame compared to the literal short found footage horror film we received last year. However, I loved that, similar to Dystopia Daily, WAD, and TIT, they used this as yet another opportunity to criticize content-creators and their incessant need to monetize and exploit every aspect of their livelihoods, especially and in spite of the ways in which they are detrimental to the environment and jeopardize those who are literally incapable of consent. I just love Dan and Phil's ability to always make humor out of their blatant critique of society and internet culture.
