so we can all agree that Elf (2003) and Barbie (2023) exist in the same universe, where Buddy was hired by Mattel to come up with toy ideas after the success of his children’s book, and he eventually worked his way up to CEO, but after too long away from the North Pole he lost his connection to the magic and became another money-hungry executive, and going to Barbieland restored the child-like wonder he once had and reminded him why he ever wanted to make toys in the first place?
we all agree on that right?

These two are actually very similar and i think if they got put into group therapy together they would heal each other or tear each other part. Spock was never fully accepted by other Vulcans, a group of people that he seems indistinguishable from as outsider. He is constantly reminded and othered for his human half. Buddy doesn’t even learn that he’s not really an elf until adulthood because those around him don’t have the heart to tell him. They keep up the lie that he’s one of them dispute his clear physical differences. After Buddy finds out and finds his dad, his dad ignores him in largely because of his elf upbringing. Spock and Buddy both struggle with the information that they are a different species than their peers and family. Buddy is behaves too elf to be a human but appears too human to be an elf, Spock looks too Vulcan to be a human and acts too human to be a Vulcan.
expanded thoughts on this:
•Buddy and Spock are both too expressive to be apart of the species they are commonly identified as
•Buddy was accepted and raised (and lied to) by his adoptive elf family dispute not being physically similar to them and feels alienated from humans as their behavior doesn’t match. He also feels alienated from elves however due to his large size and inability to use their tools, they treat him the same as any other and in doing so do not accommodate his needs. Spock was raised by Vulcans who he looks just like, but is still treated differently. He is not allowed to fit in with them as they do not allow for even his small expressions and partial human DNA. He is painfully aware that he is part human and never allowed to forget it. Spock also doesn’t fit with humans due to his Vulcan behavior as well as appearance.
•Buddy and Spock both identify with the culture they were raised in but do not fit fully into it. Buddy on account of physical differences and Spock on account of behavioral differences
•Daddy issues

my headcanon is that the CEO of Mattel in the Barbie Movie is just Buddy the Elf grown up and trying to be a functioning real-world adult but he's still very much a manchild elf at heart and that's why he just wants to start tickle fights in the middle of meetings.
also as a Christmas elf of course he would gravitate towards a career in the toy industry.
