I know the identity of Spark's other parent. Long post under the cut

Ok, so this is about a game called Cattails Wildwood Story. I wholeheartedly recommend it, it's sometimes described as "stardew valley but cats" and while there is no farming, the relationship system is quite similar, and maybe even better in some aspects (dialogue for every relationship stage which is 12 if you marry the npc, specific dialogue for when your hunger or health is low, getting gifts, you have a birthday, etc.). But if you're reading this, you probably already know all that! So, let's get into it.

So, the identity of Spark's other parent has never been explicitly confirmed, however I have a strong theory on who it may be.

Often it is speculated that Spark's other parent is a member of the Forest Colony. Or another colony. And while it seems likely, there is one singular piece of dialogue from Ember, which you get at 3 hearts, that puts all that into question.

"I spent some time as a house cat, (Name). Well, sort of. The humans let me come and go as I pleased, but they always left out food for me. It was a decent life, but I could never go back to it. That's when I met my ex. Too many bad memories associated with that time in my life."

So from that dialogue we find out that Ember used to be a house cat and that they met their ex partner and the other parent of Spark during that time. Is there a game where Ember is a house cat and we can find out more about them?

Well, there is.

So, for those of you who are familiar with the Warrior Cats book series (and that's probably 99% of Cattails players. It's not needed to enjoy or understand it, as even the game developer hasn't read it, just the field guides because his little sister wanted a game about her favourite book, but worth a try if you want to understand how Cattails became what it is today), you might have heard of a game Warrior Cats Untold Tales.

It's a game that was made by the Cattails developer. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's an old game that you can download on your computer for free. It's very low quality when it comes to graphics and gameplay, but hey. It's better that 99.9% of what you can find on mobile for free. It's basically a very early version of Cattails when it comes to mechanics. If you take Cattails and take away Stardew Valley, you're pretty much left with a higher quality version of WC:UT. It's an oversimplification and obviously Cattails is more that the combination of these games. Just trying to give you a general idea what it's like. It's worth a try - after all, it is free. There will be spoilers here for the part with Ember - because as you probably can tell, they are in the game.

So, as you play the game, you might encounter a cat named - yeah you guessed it - Ember. They're a kittypet (the clan cats' name for a house cat) and willing to show you their house and let you visit them and possibly live there if you pay 40 reputation points (representing the fact that it's dishonorable for a clan cat to accept anything from humans). Now if it wasn't for that one piece of dialogue, I'd just think that it doesn't take place in the same universe - but given what Ember said, it probably does.

When you visit Ember, you find out they live with an owner named George and a little kitten named Fuzzy who you can play hide and seek with. But you can also find a passage to BloodClan (for those of you who don't know, it's a group of street cats that are kinda evil and look like Charlotte). There is one cat that is white (unfortunately I couldn't find a high quality photo, just look up "warrior cats untold tales thrash"). His (that's right, that cat is referred to as "he") name is Thrash (not a typo, that's legit his name. I was today years old when I found out his name isn't Trash) and he can actually live with you and Ember and Fuzzy! If you let him live in the owner's closet, he will give you something every day, but Fuzzy won't play hide and seek with you anymore because Thrash is mean and Fuzzy is upset that you let him in the house.

So, it is plausible that Thrash and Ember fell in love when that happened and had a kitten. Now, I have no idea how Ember got to the Forest Colony, but I am almost certain that Thrash is Spark's father.

Also that means that Spark is half BloodClan (unlike Charlotte)

Spark lays on the dirt floor of his little corner of the den, his eyes laid on a butterfly August had given him.

His mind is lost in thought as he sorts through all the gifts August has given to him the past days, his heart fluttering like a butterfly.

“Spark? Are you awake?” Ember calls out to him.

“Oh- yes,” Spark says.

“Alright then, come help me pick things up.”  Ember tells xyr son.

Spark stands up and goes into the store part of the den.

-A little while later-

Spark watches from afar as August purchases a red rose from Ember.

His heart sinks.

It was silly of me to think he loved me anyway. He’s the leader… Spark thinks to himself before going for a long walk to hopefully clear his mind.

The next morning, as soon as he stepped outside, August happily walks up to him, giving him the red rose.

Spark can’t believe it, but he accepts happily.

He’s mine, Spark thinks as he walks off with August.

update on the cattails-tf2 crossover! :D

Made some extra designs because I felt bad about it taking so long lol. My second passes for the mercs is going well and sprites should be ready by Friday if I plan my time correctly :) in the meantime, here’s some lore for these kitties! I’ll get into game mechanics on another post.

Merasmus is Glimmer’s cousin, who joined them on the trip to the Wildwood. Merasmus doesn’t plan to stay long, and is hostile towards you at first. They claim to be the most powerfulist wizard in the lands, but their spells and curses usually fall flat. They spend a lot of time in the museum, begrudgingly helping Glimmer out with organizing the place and with studying to increase their magical abilities. Once you become friends with them, they’re convinced to stay and now cast spells of good luck and fortune on you.

Hale is a dog, but they don’t let that stop them from trying to fit in! They were raised by the mountain domain after they were abandoned by their previous owners, and traveled with jag to the Wildwood. Hale is loud, energetic, and very strong. The younger cats love playing with Hale, but the older ones are much more hesitant to let them into their shops and such in fear that they’ll break something. They mean well! Just pretty clumsy. He loves you from the start, and as your friendship grows he’ll beg you to go on adventures together, maybe beat up some voidling cats together!

Penelope is Coco’s assistant, brought here by the Forest Guardian themselves when they saw how overworked Coco was. Penelope is always busy, and a bit dismissive when they first meet you. You’ll find them in Coco’s den helping them manage the colony, or communicating with the forest guardian. Penelope has a potential rival marriage with Firebug, (pyro) which I have some very cute ideas for lol. As you grow closer, Penelope will tend to rant about her job and start to tell you her jokes that she’s writing, maybe a cutscene with her having an open mic night at Embers shop?

Helen was a previous resident of the Wildwood before everything went downhill. They managed to barely escape with their life before the voidling cats arrived. They only become a resident after you complete the main story, but you’ll get the occasional cutscene or a dialogue mention of a cat spying from a distance as you go through the game. Helen is very standoffish and her intentions in the colony are unclear. You don’t even get their name until you get 4 stars with them. They appear to have some magical properties, leftover from when the land was corrupted, you’ll see smoke come out of their nostrils and their eyes will glow a bright green when they’re upset. And how old were they again? Quite the mysterious cat.

A lot of work is being done to make dialogue options and gifts; we've paused a little on work for it since so many games and such we've been looking forward to playing have come out lately. Our main things we're concentrating on are the "starting" cats [which we narrowed the list to riddle, ace, deuce, azul, idia, and ortho]

At some other point I may work on smaller mods that add in OCs maybe, or character I've played as, as well as a resprite mod for the vanilla talk sprites ^-^

Viole(n)t Veneration

Saw this a while ago and thought I'd try it out. The actual challenge is below the cut because it's rather long.

What are your correspondences?

My main material correspondences are deer and aspen trees. However, wolfdogs are very close to me as well. Hydrophytic plants are also very closely linked to me, such as cattails, water lilies, and mangrove trees. Violet is my main color, as are the many other shades of purple, though the whitish-gray of smoke and the visceral redness of blood are also closely linked to me.

What is your inherent symbolism?

My main symbol is eyes. Anything and everything that resembles them (such as aspen trees or the spots on deer). This is how I observed, in my source. Whenever the trees seem to blink, I am there, watching.

I'm also very closely linked to scissors or shears, especially those rusted with years of wear or those that have been used for violence.

Smoke and fire. Ash-covered items. The embers of a dying flame. It is all part of me and I am part of all of it. Especially cigarette or wildfire smoke.

What would be a common myth of yours in popular culture?

I was the widely accepted creator of the world I'm used to. However, years of letting people stray led them to bastardize my myths and legends. I can be found in folktales that warn of the danger of the woods, in poems whose inspiration is no longer remembered. I've written one of these poems, I'll attach it at the bottom.

How would people worship you?

Defy their teachings. Defy their warnings. Walk into the woods. Walk into the mountains. Walk into the swamplands. Walk until you've lost the path. Walk until you've lost all direction. Walk until the trees and brush and critters look back at you. Walk until the rivers and lakes call for you to plunge into their depths.

Well... I would ask no one of this world to truly lose themself in the woods, the mountains, the swamplands. A simple walk among nature is enough for me now. A hike along quiet trails. A visit to a national park. Altars are also welcome, but I would prefer them to at least be outside.

What kinds of people would work with you?

Those that desire violence, but are chained by others. Those that are lost, and seek the eyes of the trees. Those that are shunned, and know not anyone else to turn to but my open arms. Those that are desperate, whose questions or prayers have never been answered.

Above all, those willing to make a deal with a devil in divine cloth.

How would popular culture misunderstand you?

I am not a deity of revenge. I am not a deity of penance or martyrdom. I am a deity of violence. Of all of the things that violence is and comes with: freedom, power, pleasure, artistry, intimacy. Those that seek revenge, penance, martyrdom, etc. do not desire violence for violence. They desire violence as a means to an end.

If you could, draw a symbol of devotion.

Hm... I'm not quite sure what to draw, actually. Or, well, I'm a tad bit too lazy to currently. I suppose a fitting symbol would be a pair of scissors with eyes as the handles.
