The Philosophy of Effective Altruism
Effective Altruism is a philosophy and social movement that emphasizes using evidence and reason to determine the most effective ways to improve the world and help others. It combines the altruistic desire to do good with a rigorous, results-oriented approach to maximize the positive impact of charitable actions.
Key Principles of Effective Altruism:
Maximizing Impact:
Effective altruism focuses on ensuring that the time, money, and effort devoted to helping others yield the greatest possible impact. This involves identifying causes, interventions, and charities that provide the most benefit per unit of resources.
Evidence-Based Approach:
Central to effective altruism is the use of evidence and data to assess which interventions and organizations are most successful. This often involves evaluating scientific research, performing cost-effectiveness analyses, and assessing the tangible results of various efforts to help.
Cause Prioritization:
Rather than spreading resources across all causes, effective altruism advocates prioritizing certain areas where the need is greatest, or where the most lives can be saved or improved. This could include global poverty, animal welfare, or existential risks such as climate change or artificial intelligence.
Long-Term Thinking:
Effective altruism often involves consideration of the long-term consequences of actions, including potential effects on future generations. Altruists might consider how present actions can help reduce future risks or improve the well-being of future individuals.
Moral Cosmopolitanism:
Effective altruism operates on the principle that all human lives (and sometimes animal lives) are of equal value, regardless of where a person is born or lives. This means that people should focus on causes that provide the most help to those in the greatest need, even if they are far removed geographically.
Personal Responsibility and Earning to Give:
Some proponents of effective altruism believe that individuals can do more good by earning a high income and donating a significant portion of it to highly effective causes, a concept known as "earning to give."
Openness to Self-Improvement:
Effective altruists constantly seek feedback and are willing to change their actions or strategies based on new evidence or better reasoning. The movement emphasizes flexibility and continuous improvement in pursuing altruistic goals.
Criticisms of Effective Altruism:
Narrow Focus: Some critics argue that the focus on measurable outcomes can lead to neglecting important, but harder-to-quantify, causes such as systemic social change or cultural initiatives.
Elitism: The emphasis on high-income individuals "earning to give" can create perceptions that effective altruism is only accessible to wealthy or highly educated people.
Overemphasis on Utilitarian Calculations: The movement's utilitarian focus on maximizing good outcomes can lead to difficult ethical decisions, such as favoring saving a large number of lives in the future over addressing pressing issues in the present.
The philosophy of effective altruism combines moral concern for the well-being of others with pragmatic reasoning to ensure that altruistic efforts are as impactful as possible. It encourages individuals and organizations to critically evaluate their charitable actions, seek evidence-based solutions, and prioritize causes that yield the greatest benefits for society.

THIS IS HOME
@forgettable-au Fan-Animatic ⭐️
The stars welcome him with open arms…
Work and Progress + Analysis below!
You can find the work in progress things here! because I wanna show the sketch animatic and you can only upload one video…
The entire idea was inspired off of THIS lovely little qna written a bit ago! havnt forgotten about it since! Despite what the AU might have you believe And recently I decided I could just draw out the fun part instead of go through the pain of storyboarding and cleaning up a nearly 4 minute long song 👍👍👍
Thats the idea though, theres no real plot, so no real context I can give other than the things the comic itself already provides. “This Is Home” just works incredibly well for this poor childs trauma, and it was a great opportunity to practice my composition and storytelling!!
Onto the deep analysis of every frame individually!!! (this is normal. this happens every time.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The idea that Wingdings just eventually- gave up. Trying to connect with anyone. HURTS ME DEEPLY. I’m not sure if thats specifically because he just couldn’t get the font thing down, but I imagine that was a big contributing factor. But thats what specifically stops him here. He eventually slams his keys down on the board and says “IM DONE” and throws himself into a thing he can purely enjoy on his own- science. Even at a young age, I feel he only had 2 lives. One with Sans, and one with science. Then when those worlds combined when he became the royal scientist uhhh- I imagine it got worse.
Speaking of his young age, In these shots he’s also notably a tad older than the later depictions of his younger self with the scarf. Less full of joy and whimsy
“His mind is in a different place” is taken a tad more negatively than in the context of the song I feel, as he’s more or less isolated himself from everyone (but Sans) now in this “giving up” phase of his childhood. I wonder how Sans noticed/took that and if he tried to convince him otherwise, but in this case he just thinks he needs some time to himself.
Also let it be known that the words being crammed in at the “Give him a little bit of space” bit is on PURPOSE and a SILLY LITTLE JOKE/VISUAL GAG GIVEN THE LINE. I AM SO FUNNY.
The colors are also notably dark blues, that get greyer when Wingdings has given up. The light that Sans lets in ((looks into the camera, tearing up)) is still pretty cold despite it being brighter.
The berating is also in uppercase to show most of this is from Wingdings’ pov- I know he speaks in proper casing at this time, but I NEED SOME SORT OF INDICATOR, WORK WITH ME HERE. His main issue was his own self consciousness and desire to communicate properly, since it was said before on the blog that no one really picked on him for his inability to talk to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we have Papyrus!! The colors are similarly blue, but a lot brighter and a touch purpler and greener. Its from the same world, but not the same person. Also he’s wearing a yellow vest which is the complimentary color to blue ☝️
Papyrus is more heavily associated with warm colors in contrast to Wingdings, but this takes place very early on when he was very confused where his place was (or at least I assume thats what happened). He’s associating with warm colors (yellow) but is somewhat weary about it and still subconsciously clutching onto the comfort in familiarity.
The scene ofc depicts Papyrus being incredibly uncomfortable about any photos of himself as a child. It still definitely…looooks… like him. it just feels really wrong.
Similar thing to last time with the fonts as well, uppercase, Papyrus’ pov, he just wants to know who/WHAT he is.
I enjoy the colors in the photo and how they reallly stand out from the rest of the shot, just another emphasis that the photo feels otherworldly to Papyrus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the part where I start weeping pitifully. The tiny Wingdings to Gaster comparison- it’s just so upsetting, I want to know what this poor child would think if he saw what he ends up as 😭
Wingdings enjoyed dreaming about the real stars he MIGHT get to see one day with Sans. The scene is dark, as it still hasnt happened yet, but still bright and hopeful as he stares up at the light! Its always a possibility. But then we have Gaster, who finally did it. He reached the stars, he gets to look up and say “wow…. I really did it”. Staring up at the void before him. Without Sans…I feel he wouldn’t ponder on it much, and consciously he doesn’t see anything bad about his circumstances, but the crack going down his eye that elludes to a tear says otherwise in the suppressed emotions.
The world Wingdings lived in when he was small, seemed so endless…Despite the underground being small compared to the real world, his imagination was endless. He could dream, he could imagine, and create things, get and give new ideas! But now as an adult that just so happens to be a lovecraftian entity, everything is much more simple and straightforward. At least from his perspective…Gaster may be able to DO way more than he ever could as a small child, but his mind is pretty one track at this point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder how Gaster feels…Now that they’ve gotten to the surface. without him
Im not sure how Papyrus in the game or even in the comic feels about stars, but Sans for one doesnt have to daydream anymore. They’ve also “done it” just like Gaster, but the hug insinuates less of that and more a “we WON”. They share in this moment together more emotionally than anything.
Again, compared to Gaster and them, they enjoy the moment in their own ways- Gaster just the action of seeing the stars, and Papyrus in what the moment itself means. I feel those are the 2 wants Wingdings had and thats a lot of what Papyrus and Gaster are. 2 halfs of Wingdings’…whole…thing
Also the stars welcoming him with open arms is both in reference to Sans but also Papyrus welcoming/accepting/loving himself…
IN CONCLUSION:
…yknow ive never asked before, but if anyone has any questions or needs clarification im happy to-

I understand why people do it but using "Kim and Harry would take a bullet for each other" as an expression of their personal closeness is meaningless when canonically, Kim would have thrown himself in front of a bullet to save Harry before they even knew each other. It doesn't matter if Kim likes Harry or not -- they're both officers of the RCM, currently acting as partners, and therefore Kim sees it as his job to protect Harry's life without regard to personal safety. I'd bet Kim expects the same of Harry, at least subconsciously. It isn't about love. It's about duty

This was going to be a panel of a little comic but I got too invested in drawing minute background details so, here.
#They are having an argument over 1) whether crops can be grown on the moons 2) what - if any - impact does this have on the feasibility#of an afterlife being located on the moons#Brakul is a partial convert to the Imperial Wardi faith but this mostly entails having adopted the seven faced God (and some#other elements of the belief system) into his worldview and participating in expected rites while retaining his central#ancestor veneration practices completely unchanged and mostly prioritized.#This doesn't actually cause much friction in of itself with the big exception being disagreements on the afterlife#Wardi practices surrounding death prioritize proper handling of the corpse and funerary rites in order to get the dead where they#need to be- death is a fraught transition from one state to another. analogous to birth. The role of the living is to get the dead through#this transition (preventing them from being stuck earthbound as earthbound ghosts - which is the Bad afterlife). Once the dead#make it to the moons that's it. They don't really interact with the living. There's plenty of conceptualization of what it's Like#in the lunar lands but the cultural priority is not even slightly on the Logistics of existence there.#Whereas the CORE of religious practice among the Hill Tribes is ancestor veneration - ancestors remain interactive with the living#and require/desire their continual support. They are conceptualized as having earthlike 'lives' where they eat and drink#and grow crops and herd livestock and they need the support of the living (in prayers and offerings) to do so prosperously.#There is a HIGH cultural priority on the logistics of their afterlife and it's self-apparent that the world of the dead needs fertile earth#to support them.#So like bottom line Brakul thinks there's no goddamn way that the moons could support an afterlife (they are described as#barren rock that was flung into the sky during creation and certainly Look that way)#and that the Wardi are just wrong about their afterlife's location. They probably go to the celestial fields (which are located#behind the moons and stars) like everyone else#And Janeys finds this aggravating and doesn't see his fucking point but has developed a nagging concern that Brakul Could be#partly right in that the celestial fields could Maybe exist in addition to the lunar lands.#So like maybe they aren't going to go to the same place when they die?#He's already terrified that he'll be stuck as an earthbound ghost and really doesn't want to be even further separated so#he figures he should make sure he gets himself dead and cremated at the same time as Brakul so they can navigate the#transitional period together.#Brakul is unconcerned because he figures that if Janeys actually does get stuck on those barren ass moons he can just kinda#Go Get Him#Ancestor spirits fly to the earth all the time and the moons would be a much shorter distance. Probably wouldn't be an issue.#Long story short these disagreements and underlying anxieties result in fights over whether you can grow corn on the moons or nah

Curly's attempt to prioritize the crew's happiness over safety is very in line with the internal struggles he is going through with wondering if he is happy in his life and path or should he forfeit that security.
It's upsetting cause while as understandable as that projection is, the want to be happy in something you don't feel secure in, he can't see past it and allows it to clog his judgement. This is no longer a matter of happiness but safety, but he in the end was the safest member of the crew in practically every aspect. It's not something he's going to understand the weight of from his position.
His current state is also a reflection and inversion of his mindset at the beginning of the game as well as a metaphor for the exact type of endangerment Anya felt. Where as with Jimmy, he gets to feel that "safety" Curly felt with the position but the lack of happiness he perceived he had.

after this event, dante and garu are an adventure duo, right? this is the second intense crime(?) they'll have dealt with. lowkey, they've got the perfect groundwork for an adventure serial first adventure like: first adventure (solaria history) --> beach episode --> second adventure (yokai circus)
they really fit the mold of a hardboiled guy and his bright eyed companion. plus, out of all of the clan members, dante actually likes garu and respects his skills. garu can keep up with dante's rigorous standards and he's a cute puppy. perfect synergy. (technically, they're an adventure trio with eiden, but eiden is kind of a given lmao)

devotionduo so codependent that when they try to be less so they end up hurting each other what if i kms
#mine.txt#zam hated being relied on so Heavily in s5 so now mapicc values team interindependence to a level that i dont think?? hes had before#which means hes taken more liberty in grinding for himself and his teammates a lot more than he used to#and because zam places a lot of value in himself in being the team grinder he feels useless and unneded#and since zams a huge grinder it means mapiccs main method of helping him is through violence but since hes a pacifist this season#and while technically zam is fine with other ppl killing and most importantly killing For him; he doesnt really have any beef that requires#killing as a form of revenge which means mapicc cant do the main thing that zam (and anyone else really) uses him for#and they both want to do and be more for the other but theyre stuck at a standstill cause theyre in uncharted territory#cause theyre friendly but not teamed (or even pseudo-teamed like in early s5)#i will say tho mapes more active in trying to find ways to hang out with zam#but if there isnt a clear opportunity to do so hes so Weird about it lmao like he basically just kinda. hovers over him lmao#whether in chat or otherwise#but when an opportunity Does present itself tho he seizes on it basically immediately#like the stalking is easy pickings but theres also gaias hand and literally anytime zam asks him to kill someone for him#ok but seriously tho the fact that mapicc basically declared them as teammates (even if its not official)#after he finished with the stalking was so sdfsdklaghsaljh#like bruh why does zam even have doubts about mapicc prioritizing him above everyone else he doesnt even do all that for his actual team 😭#devotions

The thing about the argument that the sword makes Laudna uncomfortable is that it's valid if it does, but if you've been in any sort of organization that attempts to have an emotionally open dialogue in making decisions, and especially if you've been in any sort of leadership position within it, you will almost certainly encounter people who suddenly become uncomfortable when, as the meme goes, we are not about them. You encounter people who suddenly express discomfort - which should ideally be brought up early in the conversation since that alone may be a reason to blackball a decision - when multiple other arguments haven't worked (and during the ensuing argument this episode, you can easily watch Orym stick to the same exact story he's been saying for 50+ episodes and that he wants to reclaim this sword and use it to kill Ludinus while Laudna throws out multiple arguments, switching from one to the other as the rest of the party slowly realizes the sword isn't cursed and that this is Delilah's influence). You see this in internet spaces as well; people who do not draw a line between "trigger" and "squick" or "discomfort" and "dislike" even though that line very much exists.
Obviously you do have to still listen, because there are plenty of valid reasons to change a decision because someone involved is uncomfortable; but even a legitimately uncomfortable person does not automatically outweigh the needs of everyone else and you cannot please everyone at once. These decisions must be made contextually because otherwise "I'm uncomfortable with this" becomes a magic Uno Reverse card to hold the group decisions hostage. It's a factor, but ultimately, even if Delilah were in no way involved, if Laudna's the only person uncomfortable and this also means a lot to Orym, the solution is likely going to be either "keep it out of sight" or "give it to a member of the Accord". And yeah, as Imogen points out, if Laudna's genuinely uncomfortable with Orym having a sword with a dark history, absorbing it herself really undercuts that point.

a ref of jeb i made for a thing i'm making teehee
(more thoughts in the tags bc i'm shy but his design is mostly based off of his mpn and live appearance! i got the idea to tear his lab coat up and finally decided to make his pants darker like his live action ver from @/fluffydeoxys' design and the elbow bandages from someone who gave him elbow pads but i can't find them SOBS.
i see his bandages as his way to keep himself together in some fear he'd come apart lol
also thought about the cross necklace from @/mersei47's design and it's on the mpn card of him! i did put some beads to make it appear a bit more rosary like but never able to finish even a single mystery on it. no one to reach out to but yourself now!)
#docsart#jebediah christoff#madness combat#madness combat jeb#i actually see him as someone who initially geared up a lot but started to neglect doing so over time#so focused on his goal and duty and becoming reckless ykno ykno#reminds me of inundation where he's throwing up blood and ignoring it because he's “”“purging the wicked”“”#he probably had elbow pads before but replaced them with bandages when they wore out#also the messyish hair is from how screwed it looks in the series <3#and yeah his coat is something he sees as a relic of a past long gone that he still deeply aches for to the point of making it his duty to#bring it back to those days#so he wants to keep it no matter what#but the bloodshed has tinted it red. it will never be the same again. like how he and all of nevada will never be the same again#also i am 100% sure some of the blood is his especially on the elbows#a mole under the eye (tear mole) is sometimes said to cause you so many challenges in life#another source said it could also mean that you would do well in your career and be supported and. just funny to make it ironic#and could mean you have “selfish and stubborn traits always prioritizing their own interests”#and “not receptive to others opinions and comments”#so. haha jeb#disclaimer i don't believe in those but i think it's interesting and could apply to this loser old man#anyway rant over thanks for watching make sure to like and subscribe to the ch#OH and the shoes are walking boots. i felt he'd be reasonable with that

hello! do u draw the maps and diagrams in the backgrounds on ur art by urself or do u use pre existing images or smth :0?
(like the map in ur most recent gaz work)
Haha, hell no! I could never have the patience or skill for that 🙆‍♀️ Most of my backgrounds for the latest COD art have been collage work. So for the Gaz one--I found a bunch of images through google and rearranged them how I wanted through mostly trial and error. yeah, if I had to draw a whole map of London by hand..💀
All these ones have backgrounds made through collage:

sometimes I severely maladaptive daydream or think things in relation to shifting and start feeling like i’m insane but then start thinking about the reality where the president of an entire country knows nothing about successfully running a country in multiple facets and is VISIBLY SENILE and yet millions of people rally behind him like he’s the second coming of christ and villainize innocent civilians at his beck and call and realize ‘hm, perhaps this isn’t the craziest mindset to have’

ADHD really does put everything at equal levels of importance, huh? Like I'll have an email I need to write that'll take maybe 10 minutes, and getting that done will alleviate 6 months of stress. Then I'll notice a sock on the floor I need to put away. Then I'll get the strong conviction that it's up to me to cure cancer. And my brain will tell me that I need to do all of them at once, start and finish them all in the time span of 0 seconds, and my executive dysfunction will throw up its hands and do none of the above.
