Ceanothus Silkmoth

Hyalophora euryalus

From the saturniidae family. They have a wingspan of 89-127 mm. It tends to occupy dry and warm habitats. They can be found in most of North America, as far down as Mexico.

I swear I will start posting things that have actually gone through their final firings soon, but here’s another wip for the books.  Found this really cool shop on Etsy that has all sorts of super adorable and wonderful ceramics, and my mind was blown by moth sculptures you could hang on the wall.  So decided to give one a try and first painting attempt was of a Ceanothus silkmoth.

Not quite the right shade of red, but really excited to see how this fellow comes out, and was my first time in literally forever using an underglaze pencil for the detailing.  Used nichrome wire for some not as floofy antennae ʚїɞ

So anyways this is crimson, they love to collect shiny things for there ever growing collection and they also make clothing and trinkets with there silk ( I know silk moths only produce silk during there larva stage but shush) there very artsy and really wanted piercings but there ear equivalent (antenna) are not only hyper sensitive to touch but are also made of thin hair like whiskers so that was a no go. So instead they pearced there wings! It doesn't affect there flight abilities to much but sharp turns arnt the easiest. They commonly sell there creations for a decent price online.

Boysen's wings are that of a ceanothus silkmoth.

One of the largest moths along side to an Atlas

Felt that an Atlas would be too large and regal for him yet. And they have more of a maroon to burgundy hues I associate with Boysen.

My favorite moth is by far ceanothus silkmoth!! Once in a blue moon they’d wind up at my childhood home, the excitement has stuck with me!! 🦋🦋

i am going to mix my favourite two things. moths and the little silly nxx boys

so behold : what moths i think the boys are

first of all, artem cuz i love him so much

he is a ceanothus silkmoth bc i think the colours fit, altho maybe an atlas moth because he is tall and atlas moths are big. i actually made a fabric in my fashion class in school of him and his icon and his and a ceanothus silkmoth i dont really have much reasoning other than hehehehehe moth pretty

luke is a rosy maple moth :D cuz he is a little eepy boy. i wouldve done a silkmoth like a moon moth but i think that wouldbe been insensitive since moon moths dont live very long much like him uhh anyways rosy maple moths r tiny guys so loveley

marius is a comet moth/madagascan moon moth because i think they are so cool an artsy energy, altho i think a yello or green chinese luna moth fots him too since i think they kinda look like kites and kites are arty i guess also kites fly away in the wind and i want mr lu jinghe to blow away in the wind and hit a powerpole/affectionate

vyn is a clothes moth idk

That sure is a Nike swoosh, they must be an athlete. It's a Ceanothus silkmoth!
