what's fun about shipping Tim with Dick, Jason, or Damian is he has, at some point, hallucinated all of them to comfort himself. even when he doesn't like them or particularly get along with them, he has to imagine/hallucinate them just so he has the power to go on. Tim's concepts of the Robin mantle and what it should be is so fun, because he respects the others through the Robin mantle. Tim worships Dick because he was the first Robin. he wouldn't be Robin if Jason hadn't died in the mantle. and a lot of his frustration with Damian is he feels Damian isn't honoring the mantle correctly. when you ship Tim with the other Robins you can't divorce their identities as Robin from it because Tim will always see them as a Robin first and that's so fun and fucked up. like.

Tim perceiving Dick as *Robin* cheering him on, not Nightwing, which is the version of Dick that Tim actually knows? that's just. wild of him. he will always view Dick as Robin first, his personal hero but also the original of the legacy. his love for Dick is shaped by that.

and then of course, even when he's hallucinating/imagining Jason cheering him on, it's *still* through the lense of being reminded how Jason failed? subconsciously believing that Jason got himself killed because of his actions, and that being a lesson for Tim to learn from? Jason isn't a person to Tim, he's a moral lesson about how to be Robin. any potential idolization he could have of Jason isn't because he loves Jason, it's because of the lessons Jason's death taught him.

and then, even though him hallucinating TIm is from the New-52, which makes characterization all kinds of questionable, i do think it makes sense for TIm to hallucinate/imagine Damian after Damian's death in an attempt to cope with it.

teen titans (2011) #18

to an extend, he sees Damian's death as in part his own fault. and even hating Damian, Tim needs the comfort from this to cope with Damian being gone. he's angry that Damian even was Robin, and has to learn something from Damian's death and how it impacts the Robin mantle, and teenage heroes as a whole. like, Tim can pretend he hates Damian all he wants, even getting taunted by the image of Damian, but there's still an underlying love to their relationship.

i think that's just the fun of shipping Tim with any of them. you will never divorce Tim's views of them from the Robin mantle and how fucking Unwell he is about anyone else who's been Robin before or after him, to the point he has to hallucinate them comforting him when he's at his lowest. it's always going to be a little unhealthy, a little toxic, and driven by Tim's relationship with being Robin as well. i need more Tim being weird about Robin in these ships.

Sonic OC inspired by that kind of weird retcon-ish thing where Silver can't actually time travel on his own and instead just has random time portals happen to him, something that I affectionately refer to as him being "Cursed By God". This character is also cursed by god in a different manner. She doesn't really get to have any especially useful powers or go on fun adventures or anything like the other sonic characters she just has to live in a Twilight Zone episode for her whole life. I got kind of excited about her so she comes with an excess of information and an arbitrarily high effort picture. Her extremely long name amuses me

i have such mixed feelings on this because theyre technically describing the exact dynamic i love with these two except selina is sooo out of character it actually hurts me. it feels like some random woman is walking around in catwoman's skin and trying her best to let other people take the lead during conversations while vaguely mimicing herself

but I noticed you mention Gambitys self esteem issues and though I agree with you I’m curious what brought you to that conclusion. What makes it seem like Gambit has them cause I think the cartoons and comics or even fandom don’t go out of their way to point it out often

Gambit has been shown to have an incredibly low sense of self for himself for his past actions & how he struggles with it, ultimately believing that he's not good enough especially for Rogue since he sees her as a true good soul who always strikes for what's right. He knows his past isn't a smooth road & he's done things he regrets, some he may not as much as the others. All of that combined with what happened with Belladonna, with his upbringing as the son of the thieves guild leader, growing up on the street being labeled a white devil, makes him believe he's not worth redemption.

All of that said, he wants to believe he can be and is good. Rogue as of right now in the show isn't aware of everything Gambit has done or been through so seeing how she believes that Magneto should be given the chance at redemption with everything he's done, it bothers him and cuts him deep. The scene in episode 3 where he saw Rogue with Magneto showcases his insecurities that he isn't worthy enough for redemption, that Rogue won't give him the same compassion she's given to Magneto and ultimately he's exactly how he thinks of himself.

I'll add a few panels i think highlight his self deprecation below as examples for you! I really love the complexities Gambit has towards himself and how that represents him as a character because he's so much more than what many people choose to show him as.

There are ghosts in the Temple of Silence, and you know this, because you've seen them, ever since you can remember.

You also know that no one else can see them; you know this, because you used to mention them to your elders, only to be scolded for lying and telling tales.

You stopped mentioning them pretty quickly, after that.

But that doesn't mean they aren't real.

They're real, because you can hear little feet running through the Temple halls, echoing off the stone walls, even though you're one of the youngest people still around.

They're real, because you can hear peals of laughter, bright and cheerful, even though no one really laughs here, not anymore.

They're real, because you catch glimpses of them out of the corner of your eye, a child with braids chasing another with snow-white hair.

And you know they're ghosts, because you've never seen a child with all white hair before.

"Sethos? Are you listening to me?"

You startle, quickly turning back to Bamoun from where you were staring off down the hall, the ghosts already long gone. "Huh? Oh, sorry, Grandfather; just... Thought I saw something, is all. I'm listening now, you were talking about remodeling the room of Gurabad texts, right?"

Bamoun nods in acceptance, already turning to continue your walk through the halls, but as you fall into step beside him, you can't help but think--

That, for a split second, you saw grief in his eyes.

And you wonder if, maybe, he can see the ghosts too.

"Master Cyno, can you braid my hair?"

You stare, perplexed; you've watched over Collei as a favor to Tighnari a handful of times now, but this is the first time she's ever requested anything of you.

But, she's looking up at you with big, hopeful eyes (that Tighnari will swear up and down she definitely didn't learn from him), and you can't bring yourself to deny such an earnest request.

"I've never braided hair before, but I suppose I could try."

And soon enough you find yourself, hairbrush and ties in hand, staring down at a bob of short green hair, somewhat at a loss on where to start.

So you start brushing, the one task you know well. And as one hand brushes, the other comes up to card through the forest colored strands, absentmindedly separating some out, just behind her left temple.

Soon you're separating and weaving, a small braid slowly coming to life without even realizing it. It's a little uneven, the sections not quite divided right, but it's far better than most first attempts.

And when you're most of the way through with that one, your other hand starts pulling together a matching braid on the right, until, eventually, you're staring down at two braids, wrapping across the crown of Collei's head, criss-crossing in the center, and continuing just a little further down on either side until they're tied off. They bounce as Collei moves.

Silently, you hand her a mirror. "Wow, Master Cyno! You're a natural! I'm gonna go show 'Nari!"

You watch her run towards the door, a blur of green, her violet eyes flashing as she turns back to wave at you--

--and yet, for a split second, you see someone else in her place, brown curls dipped in white bouncing, a pair of green, green eyes shining with mirth--

--but then, the moment ends, and all you see is Collei, bounding out the door.

And you're left staring down at your hands, and yet, not really seeing them at all.

She said you were a "natural", and you-- you desperately want to believe that.

And yet.

Somewhere, in the back of your mind, somewhere within the emptiness that exists where you know, with absolute certainty, that your memories from before you were seven* years old should be...

...a cold feeling of knowing starts to grow.

Talent had nothing to do with it--your hands have braided hair before. Many times, in fact; enough to make it muscle memory, almost as easy as breathing--

--and you have no idea how you know that.

(And your hair's always been white... Hasn't it?)

*we don't have any canon ages for how old Sethos and Cyno are now, nor what age they were when the Ba Fragments were implanted and Cyrus left with Cyno, other than the photos of young Cyno from Cyrus, where he could be any age between 5-10ish. The number 7 was chosen for thematic parallels with the song
