1800-1849
This is part of a series in which I am posting clips of my larger project by decade as I finish them. For more about this project, or to ask me to include your doll or OC, check out my pinned post.
Previous posts:
17th century
1700-1739
1740-1769
1770-1799
The OCs in this post that are mine are Charlotte and Jane, Rachel and Abigail, and Hannah and Delia (they're in pairs because I did the Best Friends series based on @americangirlstar's suggestions, and in the process created a Best Friend for each of my own characters). Héloise and Aoife belong to @autistickirstenlarson, Violette belongs to @getintothesun, and Charlotte belongs to @gardner-n-pardner.
While putting together previous installations I became aware that I have the birth dates wrong for several of the canon characters. I'm planning a redo for the canon character set, eventually, so please do let me know if I'm wrong about anyone. I might already know, but since I have pretty severe dyscalculia as well as ADHD it's not bad to have the info available in multiple places.
Tumblr media
1800s
Charlotte Finch: 85-94 Jane Finch: 83-92 Héloise Cormier: 46-55 Kaya'aton'my: 45-54 Speaking Rain: 45-54 Felicity Merriman: 35-44 Elizabeth Cole: 35-44 Rachel Gabay: 20-29 Abigail Schorr: 20-29 Lydia Livingston: 1-10 Caroline Abbott: 0-8
This is it, as narrow as skirts are going to get for about a century. Everyone was really into looking like Greek and Roman statues, so white dresses in drapey fabrics were the rage for young women. Caroline and Lydia are a little young for that style though. Before I decided to add the Best Friends to the project, I put Lydia's dress in Caroline's collection, but then I did make Lydia and made the green dress her meet outfit. Now that I'm thinking about a redo, I want to give Caroline a completely different dress, maybe that also has those sheer sleeves.
Tumblr media
1810s
Charlotte Finch: 95-99 Jane Finch: 93-99 Héloise Cormier: 56-65 Kaya'aton'my: 55-64 Speaking Rain: 55-64 Felicity Merriman: 45-54 Elizabeth Cole: 45-54 Rachel Gabay: 30-39 Abigail Schorr: 30-39 Lydia Livingston: 11-20 Caroline Abbott: 9-18 Clara Montoya: 0-7 Josefina Montoya: 0-5
The switch from wearing their skirts calf-length with visible pantalettes to ankle-length might have been an exciting growing-up moment for Caroline and Lydia. At the same time, the silhouettes are getting less flowy with stiffer fabrics and little puffs on the sleeves. Meanwhile, in New Mexico, I gave Clara styles based on illustrations of Ana and Francisca as well as leftovers from Josefina's collection, and then afterward decided to do a siblings series, so...whoops again, I guess.
Tumblr media
1820s
Héloise Cormier: 66-75 Kaya'aton'my: 65-74 Speaking Rain: 65-74 Felicity Merriman: 55-64 Elizabeth Cole: 55-64 Rachel Gabay: 40-49 Abigail Schorr: 40-49 Lydia Livingston: 21-30 Caroline Abbott: 19-28 Clara Montoya: 8-17 Josefina Montoya: 6-15 Hannah Kane: 0-5 Delia Freedman: 0-5 Violette Metoyer: 0-5
The early Regency was all about long, narrow lines, but now the width is coming back, along with growing sleeve puffs and lots of horizontal lines. Frills, lace, and bows are starting to show up on skirts, and hairstyles are starting to get tall again. It's coincidence that @getintothesun's Violette is the same age as my Hannah and Delia, but drawing them together is turning out to be a fun exercise: Hannah and Delia are comparatively plainly-dressed kids, appropriate to their hardworking lives on the Erie Canal, while Violette has a richness in her wardrobe that works with her comfortable life in the Louisiana warmth.
Tumblr media
1830s
Héloise Cormier: 76-85 Kaya'aton'my: 75-84 Speaking Rain: 75-84 Felicity Merriman: 65-74 Elizabeth Cole: 65-74 Rachel Gabay: 50-59 Abigail Schorr: 50-59 Lydia Livingston: 31-40 Caroline Abbott: 29-38 Clara Montoya: 18-27 Josefina Montoya: 16-25 Hannah Kane: 6-15 Delia Freedman: 6-15 Violette Metoyer: 6-15 Aoife Callaghan: 0-3
This decade for the first time we have two members of the @autistickirstenlarson extended universe in play! Each of her characters has a strong color palette for their collection: not every outfit incorporates the theme colors, but enough do to feel like the character herself has a preference. For Héloise, the go-to colors are blue and brown. For Aoife it's green and cream.
Tumblr media
1840s
Héloise Cormier: 86-95 Kaya'aton'my: 85-94 Speaking Rain: 85-94 Felicity Merriman: 75-84 Elizabeth Cole: 75-84 Rachel Gabay: 60-69 Abigail Schorr: 60-69 Lydia Livingston: 41-50 Caroline Abbott: 39-48 Clara Montoya: 28-37 Josefina Montoya: 26-35 Hannah Kane: 16-25 Delia Freedman: 16-25 Violette Metoyer: 16-25 Aoife Callaghan: 4-13 Cecile Rey: 0-7 Marie-Grace Gardner: 0-7 Kirsten Larson: 0-5 Singing Bird: 0-5 Charlotte Devereux: 0
I struggled a lot with finding accurate, non-exoticizing references for Singing Bird, as I did for Kaya and Speaking Rain. As a result, it feels necessary to include a disclaimer to the effect that this project should not be viewed as an accurate source for Nimiipuu, Salish, or Lakota clothing. Please do not cite me as a reference. While it was easy to find examples of modern-day Nimiipuu , Salish, and Lakota regalia, and there are photos of individual garments from the 18th and 19th centuries on display in museums, it was hard to get a feel for what an outfit might accurately have looked like, without entering into a level of research that would have been way beyond the scope of this project. That said, I do intend to eventually go back and redo the canon characters, so if someone seeing this does have access to and familiarity with good 18th and 19th century Nimiipuu, Salish, and Lakota clothing references, and the time and patience to share it with me, I will absolutely use them in the redo. For now, please know that the probable inaccuracies in my drawings of these characters are not intended as disrespect, and as always I am open to knowledgeable correction.
As always, to get your historical doll or OC included in this project, HERE'S THE LINK. Obviously if your doll is from earlier than the 1840s they'll have to wait for the next round of drawings, but you're welcome to put them in the form.

Do it. Do 11 and 13 for all of your Only Human characters. 8) 8) 8)
Ah, so we're gonna have a stuffed D&D party and my own entire pokemon region then, huh? Because, here's the thing. Including William, I currently have 15 named characters for Only Human. Some of them are gonna be minor, but shhhhhhh they get to be here anyways. Needless to say, this is about to be a loooooong post.
Ada - 11. I'm thinking for her an Elven Sorcerer or Warlock. Warlock fits her aesthetic more, but the idea of her needing a pact of some sort for magic is a little odd when she's a witch and thus shouldn't need to pull magic from another source, thus Sorcerer.
13. Grass type gym for sure. Victreebel, Vileplume, Roserade, Gourgeist, Carnivine, and Shiftry I think would be the best team for her. Yes that is half a team of poison types for the person who makes everyone's coffee, no it is not suspicious. She's just a little edgy.
Elias - Ada HAD to be followed by her older brother. 11. Elf to match his sister, but I think Paladin fits him quite well. He has his ideals and he doesn't like them challenged much. He'd rather stick to what he believes is right and wrong, even if he's not always right about it.
13. Bug types without a shred of doubt. His Beedril would absolutely be his ace pokemon. In addition to the Beedril, there's Vespiquen, Butterfree, Beautifly, Galvantula, and Ribombee.
Celeste - 11. Celeste is hard because she's more likely to fit into a D&D universe as a Warlock's patron than any sort of PC type. And if we were to interpret it instead as what kind of D&D character she'd make, I think she'd be more likely to be the DM.
13. Can I just give her MewTwo? No? OK. In all seriousness though, I think she would be a Psychic type leader. Metagross, Galade, Gardevoir, Hatterene, Orbeetle, and Reuniclus I think.
Charlotte - 11. Dark Elf Cleric of the Life Domain, and no, I don't know why lol. She's a character I'm still figuring out, but thinking about this question, it's just the exact right vibes.
13. This one took me a few moments of looking at different pokemon. And then I spottled Alolan Ninetails and knew that Ice Types are perfect for what I'm going for with her. So, Alolan Ninetails, Lapras, Glaceon, Frosmoth, Aurorus, and Dewgong.
Elizabeth - 11. It's hard to imagine Elizabeth as anything other than a ghost to be completely honest, so perhaps a human for race? As for class, I think Wizard might be the best. She's relatively shy and nervous and I could see that working with a book smart wizard.
13. Is it too obvious to give the ghost character ghost types? Should I not let her overlap with William? Well, too bad because here we go, Ghost Types again! Chandelure, Polteageist, Palossand, Mismagius, Drifblim, and Gengar.
Helen - 11. Human Wizard. Honestly, just. I hate to say she's basic, but she'd be really simple. If we're looking at this from a playing a game perspective, she'd probably just take a prebuilt human wizard or take the rule book's advice about what abilities and spells to take to make it quick.
13. Normal types would be her style. Specifically, Persian, Miltank, Blissey, Delcatty, Lopunny, and Stoutland. Once again, I don't want to call her basic, but for the most part the most normal of the normal types would be her style.
John Doe - Oh boy I don't think I've talked about poor John before which is a shame because I love him so much.
11. So, this one REALLY varies because if he had the choice, he would make a human. If it were a D&D AU, the best fit I found is something called an Astral Elf. It was the most alien sounding thing I saw. If making a character, I think he'd make something simple like a fighter because it seems like the normal choice, whereas a D&D AU of Only Human would likely have him as something like an Artificer, like William.
13. OK. So. Hear me out. I can't resist just giving him the Space Pokemon. Which means he doesn't have a single typing, but his team would be Elgyem, Beeheeyem, Clefable, Starmie, Solrock, and Lunatone. It's too perfect though and no one can change my mind that this is the team he should have.
Lilian - 11. Tiefling, for sure, no questions asked. I think she'd be the Eldritch Knight subclass of Fighter in particular. She prefers the punk aesthetic for a reason, that being a willingness to knock someone's teeth in if the need comes so she'd very much be a fighter type.
13. I bounced between Dark and Fire types in my mind a bit before landing on dark types. Having said that, Houndoom, Zoroark, Mightyena, Absol, Hydreigon, and Obstagoon would be the ideal team for her in my eyes.
Freyja - 11. I think a Water Genasi Ranger would be the best option for her. It's kind of hard to imagine her personality as any sort of adventurer, but I think Ranger fits her role as the local fisherman the best.
13. Given the previous question, I think water type as her type was kind of obvious immediately. I'd give her a Tentacruel, Kingdra, Gyarados, Sharpedo, Wailord, and Whiscash.
And now we get into a subset of characters, the group that works on the local farm nearby! I note this because most of these characters are siblings except for Maria, who has basically been adopted as an honorary sibling anyways, and I thought it would be neat to mention that before hand.
Connie - 11. Orc. Barbarian. No, not a half orc. Full on Orc. The most fashionable Orc on the planet, and somehow despite being an Orc Barbarian she has maxed out Charisma, but she is, in fact, still an Orc Barbarian.
13. Now, in stark contrast to her D&D self, her Pokemon self is a Fairy type specialist. Mawhile, Togekiss, Sylveon, Alcremie, Florges, and Wigglytuff. Although, now that I think about it, Fairy type isn't really that different from a D&D barbarian at least power wise.
Benny - 11. I'm torn between making him an Orc to match his sister, or something else. He's either an Orc or Half-Orc I think. He's also one I have a hard time thinking of as an adventurer type, but if he were, he'd likely be your standard sword and shield fighter.
13. Ground type would absolutely be his go to. Specifically the big guys. Steelix, Garchomp, Mudsdale, Gastrodon, Rhydon, and Nidoking. He's more likely to use them for farm work than battling though if I'm being honest.
Charlie - 11. I think Orc like his sister, but Druid. This boy loves growing the plants on the farm so Druid was really the only choice for him. And now I kinda wanna make an Orc Druid because the idea of big beefy Druid is incredibly appealing to me.
13. And we've come back to the grass type! A very different vibe from Ada though with his team being Bellossom, Leafeon, Whimsicott, Lilligant, Lurantis, and Appletun.
Damien - Oh boy, the character who even he doesn't know who he is and is trying to figure it out. I haven't been dreading him on this list at all.
11. Like his siblings, Orc. I think with where he is right now in the story, literally changing his name to Damien in an attempt to be dark and mysterious, Warlock would be the best bet at the moment.
13. I'm thinking Steel types for him, although the why is a mystery to me. Even so, the team I'm thinking would be Scizor, Skarmory, Lucario, Aegislash, Corviknight, and Durant.
Maria - 11. Changeling Rogue. Maybe Changeling is too on the nose for a shapeshifter, but I don't care. It's just what fits!
13. Dragons! The team I'd see her with would be Flygon, Salamence, Haxorus, Dragalge, Noivern, and Dragapult.
And that is the ENTIRE cast of Only Human! (Currently. I have other concepts bouncing around in my head of characters that could be in this. Someone send help.)

"Charlotte..." he murmurs, quite unaware of how they got to this point. it's been a long time since either of them have seen each other, he doesn't know exactly what to do in this situation. Binx sits on his shoulders, staring at her as he reaches a hand out, touching her shoulder. "it's been a long time. why don't we sit down and talk?"

introducing ... an npc ... Charlotte 'Charlie' Anne Devereux
Tumblr media
charlie comes from a long line of nobles and actually descends distantly from a french princess. she is a friend/acquaintance of prince henry, whom had taken her on one his many ‘fake dates’ before he made things official with alex. in some verses, she’s forced to marry henry, much to the distaste of both of them given she’s very much so a lesbian and has herself a girlfriend already, not that her parents care to listen. in normal verses, with the advice of henry and alex both, she makes the move and dissociates herself from her family in order to find happiness with her girlfriend. she ends up being on the team for henry’s many shelters and becomes an advocate for those like herself and henry too.

But she did not get mine sent to Warrens) – her journey to London put off from illness - the gaieties of the Oxford business more than she could bear – very reluctant to give up London. ‘As there were many inducements to prosecute my 1st intention; I might have seen you’ etc etc. Mrs Milne and Hamlyn there - Mr. Crewe and his boys spending their weeks in England in Hill street etc........ ‘I have been diligently trying to get well and in due time hope to succeed, my complaint seems to be a low fever, which has pretty fast melted away all my fat; I am little more than skin and bone, and can neither coax appetite, nor rest, I have lived for the last fortnight on port wine and jellies, and have a bed to myself..... on Monday I began with the shower bath, and hope in a few weeks to be allowed to ride, I can’t walk much, my chief exercise therefore is in a pony carriage’ – their going to Harrogate given up – they go to Worthing in August - ‘your happiness and comfort is very dear to me, and I am not the last of your friends to rejoice that you are satisfied of having secured both - may it be so! But for all our sakes perhaps it is best that at present I should tell you this on paper. An unsophisticated mind I think is more likely to secure your permanent happiness, than any such worldly one as that which falls to the lot of those who of late years have been the associates - one may live in the world, and have no traffic in hearts, but the quiet country fireside would be cruelly insipid had it none of this ingredient to flavour it, and God forbid that in yours it should be wanting – you have lived long enough on hope, dearest, now the desire has come  I trust it brings with it all you have so often longed for – your friend will always be a source of interest to me, and I will never rob her of her due; but you can tell me about her, and I will believe all you say which at least will be much for her advantage, because I am by no means sure that I could be an impartial judge’ -  Mrs. Milne tells her as they have not seen me in town, Mrs. Norcliffe cannot believe I have been there -  A- found letter (good - all well and right) from her sister at the poste restante office - she wrote to her sister while I wrote 2 ½ pages very small and close to my aunt and A- wrote the rest of  page 3 and the ends to my aunt while I wrote 3 pages to M- - we both sat up writing till 2 tonight – answered the business part of my aunt’s letter - Glad George Robinson prospects better - said he had a lease of the mill - sure Mr. Parker would do all right - begged him not to forget the Hipperholm fields in the notice - should not trouble myself about Northgate - not inclined to sell the house with a little of the land -  glad of the so fair account of herself and hoped my father would be better – mentioned our tour of Mt. Blanc and A- and I being well – left her to tell her the little particulars – said the weather had changed and driven us here from Chamouni [Chamonix-Mont-Blanc] – depended upon the weather whether we should go for a few days more to the mountains or not – will add a line or 2 tomorrow - wrote very kindly to M-   said we had been mutually disappointed  - I had expected hearing from her in Paris -  sorry she had not got my long letter left for her at Warrens – should have written from Paris but had no time – impossible to write form the mountains – assured her my thoughts could not play truant long – grieved at the bad account of herself – should be ill at east till I heard she was better – beg her to write to Rue St V- no. 27 and let me find a letter in Dover street- very fine day F70° at 2 tonight

This is part of a series in which I am posting clips of my larger project by decade as I finish them. For more about this project, or to ask me to include your doll or OC, check out my pinned post.
Previous posts:
17th century
1700-1739
1740-1769
1770-1799
1800-1849
I also feel that I should repeat the statement I made before that I had a hard time finding accurate, non-exoticizing references for Kaya, Speaking Rain, and Singing Bird's wardrobes without embarking on a level of research way beyond the scope of this project. If someone is reading this who has familiarity with and access to visual references for 19th century Nimiipuu, Salish, and Dakota/Lakota clothing, and the time and patience to help me understand them, I would be very interested in learning.

1850s
Héloise Cormier: 96-99 Kaya'aton'my: 95-99 Speaking Rain: 95-99 Felicity Merriman: 85-94 Elizabeth Cole: 85-94 Rachel Gabay: 70-79 Abigail Schorr: 70-79 Lydia Livingston: 51-60 Caroline Abbott: 49-58 Clara Montoya: 38-47 Josefina Montoya: 36-45 Hannah Kane: 26-35 Delia Freedman: 26-35 Violette Metoyer: 26-35 Aoife Callaghan: 14-23 Cecile Rey: 8-17 Marie-Grace Gardner: 8-17 Kirsten Larson: 6-15 Singing Bird: 6-15 Charlotte Devereux: 1-10 Addy Walker: 0-5 Sarah Moore: 0-5
Charlotte is a fun and interesting character: I made small edits to some of the base poses I use to accommodate her cane, and larger edits to others. I looked up some photos and videos of children with juvenile arthritis, which Charlotte has, to help get it right. Some of the outfits in Charlotte's collection were repeats, so I picked out a few more outfits from the same period that seem like they fit Charlotte's frilly, floral aesthetic. Meanwhile, this decade, Addy and Sarah are both born into slavery, Héloise, Kaya, and Speaking Rain say goodbye, Cecile and Marie-Grace begin wearing full-length, grown-up dresses, and Clara Montoya, ever sensible, tries out a Bloomer suit but finds that it doesn't make her work enough easier to offset the teasing and doesn't make any more of them.
Tumblr media
1860s
Felicity Merriman: 95-99 Elizabeth Cole: 95-99 Rachel Gabay: 80-89 Abigail Schorr: 80-89 Lydia Livingston: 61-70 Caroline Abbott: 59-68 Clara Montoya: 48-57 Josefina Montoya: 46-55 Hannah Kane: 36-45 Delia Freedman: 36-45 Violette Metoyer: 36-45 Aoife Callaghan: 24-33 Cecile Rey: 18-27 Marie-Grace Gardner: 18-27 Kirsten Larson: 16-25 Singing Bird: 16-25 Charlotte Devereux: 11-20 Addy Walker: 6-15 Sarah Moore: 6-15 He-Mei Hsieh: 0-4 Florence Coburn: 0-4 Lucy Morgan: 0-4
He-Mei is a placeholder name that probably isn't right for her character. It's a Mandarin name, and she should have a name in Cantonese. Unfortunately I just don't know enough to be able to pick one out without help, so if someone seeing this who speaks Cantonese has a great idea, I'd love to hear it. Ironically, although AG has never made either a Chinese or significantly Disabled Historical doll, He-Mei and Florence owe the most to existing AG characters out of all my OCs. Maybe it's their dedication to getting into trouble.
Tumblr media
1870s
Rachel Gabay: 90-99 Abigail Schorr: 90-99 Lydia Livingston: 71-80 Caroline Abbott: 69-78 Clara Montoya: 58-67 Josefina Montoya: 56-65 Hannah Kane: 46-55 Delia Freedman: 46-55 Violette Metoyer: 46-55 Aoife Callaghan: 34-43 Cecile Rey: 28-37 Marie-Grace Gardner: 28-37 Kirsten Larson: 26-35 Singing Bird: 26-35 Charlotte Devereux: 21-30 Addy Walker: 16-25 Sarah Moore: 16-25 He-Mei Hsieh: 5-14 Florence Coburn: 5-14 Lucy Morgan: 5-14 Gertrude Levy: 0-4 Mabel Kaplan: 0-4 Medha/Mahtab: 0-2
The First Bustle Era, with its big, poofy, drapey bustles, shrinks down into a tight, structured column shape. Florence's chair is based on historical examples: it has two large wheels that she can push in the front and one small wheel in the back. It's heavy and difficult for her to push as a kid, and when He-Mei pushes it she can't always see where they are going. I feel like Addy's school suit, in particular, translates well into these stiffer and more structured styles, and Caroline's Christmas dress isn't bad either. Another one that worked out well is Cécile's parlor outfit.
Tumblr media
1880s
Lydia Livingston: 81-90 Caroline Abbott: 79-88 Clara Montoya: 68-77 Josefina Montoya: 66-75 Hannah Kane: 56-65 Delia Freedman: 56-65 Violette Metoyer: 56-65 Aoife Callaghan: 44-53 Cecile Rey: 38-47 Marie-Grace Gardner: 38-47 Kirsten Larson: 36-45 Singing Bird: 36-45 Charlotte Devereux: 31-40 Addy Walker: 26-35 Sarah Moore: 26-35 He-Mei Hsieh: 15-24 Florence Coburn: 15-24 Lucy Morgan: 15-24 Gertrude Levy: 5-14 Mabel Kaplan: 5-14 Medha/Mahtab: 3-12 Diya/Nasreen: 0-9 Harriet Shapiro: 0-4 Matilda Greene: 0-4
There's a lot still undecided about the sisters I originally called Diya and Medha but then considered renaming to Nasreen and Mahtab, depending on what kind of backstory would work best for them. Unfortunately, I know more about clothing history than I do about historical waves of immigration. I still think these characters have a good dynamic with each other and I love how their outfits turned out, but I probably won't be fleshing them out much unless I happen to learn a lot more about their potential backgrounds. For the time being, I'm leaving them in the project but I'm focusing more on characters I don't need to do a lot of original research to develop.
The Second Bustle Era is far more stiff and structured than the first, with heavier fabrics and narrower lines. Even the older girls are wearing bustles, while the younger girls often have large bows at the backs of their dresses in imitation of the bustled silhouette. This project first saw a bustled style in the 1680s, they were most famous in the 1880s, and even today we see them now and then on bridal or red carpet gowns.
Tumblr media
1890s
Lydia Livingston: 91-99 Caroline Abbott: 89-98 Clara Montoya: 78-87 Josefina Montoya: 76-85 Hannah Kane: 66-75 Delia Freedman: 66-75 Violette Metoyer: 66-75 Aoife Callaghan: 54-63 Cecile Rey: 48-57 Marie-Grace Gardner: 48-57 Kirsten Larson: 46-55 Singing Bird: 46-55 Charlotte Devereux: 41-50 Addy Walker: 36-45 Sarah Moore: 36-45 He-Mei Hsieh: 25-34 Florence Coburn: 25-34 Lucy Morgan: 25-34 Gertrude Levy: 15-24 Mabel Kaplan: 15-24 Medha/Mahtab: 13-22 Diya/Nasreen: 10-19 Harriet Shapiro: 5-14 Matilda Greene: 5-14 Samantha Parkington: 0-4 Nellie O'Malley: 0-4
The final decade of the 19th century has us saying goodbye to Caroline and Lydia, and hello to Samantha and Nellie. Although it's less dramatic than the first and second bustle eras or even the period between them, this period is surprisingly fun to draw. And it's nice to be ending the century with their wintery formalwear. Happy new year!
As always, to get your historical doll or OC included in this project, HERE'S THE LINK. Obviously if your doll is from earlier than the 20th century they'll have to wait for the next round of drawings, but you're welcome to put them in the form and I'll include them in the next round, which will otherwise focus on the siblings of canon characters.

The Best Neighborhoods Near Oviedo, FL
Oviedo, FL is a city that has seen its fair share of growth in the past few years. It's one of the top suburbs near Orlando, and it's quickly becoming a destination for families who want something more than what they get in the city limits. If you're moving to Oviedo or are already here, there are plenty of neighborhoods with good schools, fun events and homeowner associations that take care of everything from trash pickup to lawn maintenance. Here are some of my favorites:
Dean Rd
Dean Rd is a family-friendly neighborhood that's close to a number of attractions, including the Orlando Science Center.
Tumblr media
This quiet residential area features tree-lined streets and well-kept lawns. Dean Road residents enjoy the convenience of having shopping centers, restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
Oviedo
Oviedo is a town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 17,924 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Tumblr media
The area that today encompasses Oviedo began as cattle ranches in the late 19th century and early 20th century. In 1914, several of these ranches were combined to form dairy farm called Oviedo Farms Incorporated by John Blackshear Mabry (1879-1956). He was born on a farm near Roswell Georgia son of James Dickson Mabry (1846-1906) and Mary Virginia Blackshear(1850-1889). His maternal great grandparents were Francis Marion Blackshear (1740-1776) and Sarah Devereux Wiseman(1747 - 1826).
In 1920 Mary Charlotte Harris (1902-1993), sister of U.S. Senator Robert Sidney Harris, purchased land from a Mr Harry Smith who had been leasing parts of it since 1919 for cattle grazing purposes only but never took an active role in developing them into anything more than open fields with big oak trees scattered throughout just like his neighbors did; except for one difference: That difference being that Mrs Harris decided not only wanted bigger trees planted but also wanted roads built through those fields!!! This caused some problems initially because Mr Smith had not cleared enough space before planting his seedlings which resulted in some being uprooted during construction activities."
Sanford
Sanford is a city in Seminole County, Florida, United States. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 54,570.
The city has two distinct areas: (1) around Interstate 4 where most major commercial activities are located; and (2) around Lake Monroe on State Road 46 where many residential neighborhoods are located.
Forest City
Forest City is a town in Seminole County, Florida. It has a population of about 3,000 people and is located about 25 miles south of Oviedo. The town was founded in 1927.
Forest City is just one of many neighborhoods close to Oviedo that offer great amenities and an excellent quality of life for families who want to live near the city without being too close to it.
Power Washing Orlando FL is a professional pressure washing company. We specialize in pressure cleaning decks, patios and driveways in Orlando FL. We are professionals and quality matters! Opera ask games day 6 & 7!
(Super late!)
Any favorite weird/funny lyrics?
This bit from Ballo never fails to make me LOL, Gustavo: “O ciel, lo sposo suo!”.
What are some opera songs that make you lose your mind?
Lucia: Chi mi frena (the iconic sextet); Onegin: final scene; Hamlet: Ô mortelle offense! (when Hamlet drenching himself in red wine); Ballo: Il messaggio entri (the quintet is a total bop); Don Carlo: Ella giammai m’amò (THAT cello solo intro); Prince Igor: Polovtsian Dances.
Are there any Met interview moments that live rent-free in your mind?
Not really interviews but, Alagna doing a backward-roll and Hvorostovsky asking for Fleming's approval to go for it.
What's an opera production that you positively rant about for an hour and a production that you could angry rant about for an hour
Positive: Onegin (2007), with the passion of seven blazing suns
Negative: tbh, I'll just ignore any productions that are still okay with black/brown/yellow-face and cultural appropriation.
Are there any weirdly specific moments from a stream/production that you love?
Hamlet (2010): a standard baritone overreaction / Don Carlo (2010): Rodrigo stroking Carlo's hair / Ernani (2012): Carlo V being dramatic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Le Comte Ory (2011): "Moi?" / Agrippina (2020): Nero doing some exercise on stage / La Bohème (2008): respect my modesty!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which opera production was the most visually pleasing to you?
Off the top of my head: Prince Igor (2014), Eugene Onegin (2007), Cendrillon (2018), and Parsifal (2013).
Is there any singer who changed your opinion on an opera character?
I think it'd be Jonas Kaufmann and Werther. I'd not been a big fan of his voice for a long time and the opera was too gloomy for my preference. Then I finally got to watch his Werther last year. The dark tone in Kaufmann's voice actually suits the melancholic mood of Werther and the nuanced acting brings a lot more depth to the character. His rendition of Pourquoi me réveiller is such a powerful depiction of sorrow and despair. By the end of the opera, my perception changed... and I was all tears.
Are there any productions you wish had been filmed but are only available in audio form (or not available at all)?
Remember when the Met decided not to film THIS Boccanegra?
Tumblr media
A singer that pleasantly surprised you in a role?
Roberto Alagna in La Rondine and Carmen. I didn't really care for his voice back then, just like Kaufmann's. But his willingness to throw himself into his performance has given me a newfound appreciation of him. This man also only cried real tears on stage.
Any costume(s) that you would want to have? (+pictures if you have them!)
My costume tag really comes in handy for this question :)
Opera characters that are meant for each other and you will not hear otherwise?
Charlotte & Werther, Tosca & Cavaradossi, Tristan & Isolde, Marcello & Musseta, Susanna & Figaro, and Carlo & Rodrigo.
Opera singer that you can’t dissociate from a certain role?
Probably, Radvanovsky's Elizabeth in Devereux. I don't know if there're any still-active sopranos out there that could ever be vocally and histrionically better than her 2016 portrayal.
Opera you think is a complete masterpiece from first to last note? (or an opera that you know by heart?)
Don Carlo(s), Eugene Onegin, La Traviata, La Bohème, Lucia di Lammermoor, Un Ballo in Maschera, Tosca, Il Trovatore, Norma, and Thaïs.
Favorite conductors/conducting moments?
Fabio Luisi goes from 0 to 100 at the beginning of Act 3 of Ballo:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A unique acting choice that you cannot stop thinking about?
2017 Onegin offering Lensky his half-eaten baguette before the duel.
Battle of the productions: for an opera that was streamed in many different productions, which production do you think is the best (or do you like them all equally)?
Eugene Onegin: 2007 >>> 2013 > 2017 La Bohème: 2008 >> 2018 La Traviata: 2012 > 2017 >> 2018 Violetta/Alfredo chemistry: 2017 > 2012 Il Trovatore: 2011 > 2015
Thank you for tagging me, @opera-my-beloved xoxo
