Due to shenanigans, CW Apprentice!Danny meets [Instert Batkid here] (I'm partial to Dick or Tim) and gets them out of a Situation™️. They end up becoming friends from the experience and stay in touch, with Danny occasionally leaving notes and gifts of things that he thinks they would like or knows will be helpful in 💫the future💫. Eventually the Bats have a problem that they're having trouble solving and [Batkid] goes 'oh let me see if Danny can give us a hint' and texts him while the others are all like 'who tf is Danny?!?!' and idk just Danny and [Batkid] being friends(and maybe to lovers) and cute fun stuff.

Background music: The cheatcode to a perfectly paced video (Editing tips with Ari)

So I've been video editing for about 10 years now (though 2 of those were on windows movie maker :P), and it occurred to me that one tool has emerged as the most POWERFUL in my entire editors tool set.

That tool, is BACKGROUND MUSIC.

Here's something you should try:

Next time you're subjected to a reality TV show, pay attention to the way background music is used. You might pick up on the way that background music is almost constantly being cycled, with multiple tracks starting and ending sometimes even in the same minute. This is a major part in what professional editors call "making a moment".

A music track establishes the tone of a particular moment. For example: an intense song plays as Gordan Ramsey chews out some dingus for making lukewarm soup. The track begins as the dingus is approached by Mr. Ramsey, and then once Gordan has spoken his last "FUCK OFF" to the dingus, we hear the music fade out (along with probably a few instances of waterphone.wav).

The intense music track set the tone and punctuated the encounter with Ramsey, and its ending signals to the viewer that the encounter we just witnessed is now over, and thus: A moment was made. We can now rest easy as the next track begins and mingles with the myriad other moments present in the episode.

So, back to YOUR video.

When you're editing, you might be tempted to just plop in any old lofi track in the background, and just let it roll throughout the entire videos run time.

I implore you to NOT do that.

A video with one droning music track as the sole filler of dead air will feel like it is 1 MILLION YEARS LONG.

PACING

Background music is the CHEAT CODE to excellent PACING.

So from now on when editing your video, think long and hard about what emotion you would like to be conveyed at any particular moment. Fancy yourself John Williams, or Danny Elfman, and use music to elevate each and every moment from dull nothingness to ELEGANT BEAUTY.

😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?

Ah straight into the angst! When Lila first returned to LD, being confronted with her old life, who she used to be, and everything she lost hit her like a brick. There were so many times when she broke down completely. She has a better handle on that now and does not cry easily, and never in public, that’d ruin her ice queen image. These days the only thing that gets her that badly are the nightmares; reliving all that sidestep trauma is enough to leave her sobbing on the floor. Oh, and we can’t forget actual acceptance; if you want to break her, love her. The Danny date absolutely broke her. She cried so much.

🍩 DONUT - favourite sweet treat?

Lila is a sweet step, she adores sweet things. Anything with chocolate goes over well. Chocolate cake is a definite fave. Giving her good quality chocolate truffles is a cheatcode to her heart.

🙈 SEE-NO-EVIL - whats a side of your oc that they don't want to show other people?

Showing vulnerability or loss of control. It’s probably a hangover from Farm days of having to hide so much of herself. There’s perhaps a small measure of arrogance there too, not wanting to show she has weak spots. She also has massive trust issues, fully believing that showing vulnerability would leave her open to those weaknesses being used and abused. And her issues with control are very deeply woven into her puppetmaster scar.

🎁 PRESENT - what types of presents would they be most happy to receive? are they good at gift giving?

She’d probably say chocolate, because it’s minimal fuss and takes almost no personal knowledge. God forbid she could let people close enough to know her. But she’d actually be incredibly touched at someone who still managed to know her well enough to gift her something personal or something that made them think of her. Something they made would also make her 🥺. She’s not the best gift-giver (more of an acts of service/quality time girl) but she tries. Usually following the same kind of rules as what would mean something to her.

🎵 MUSIC NOTE - what is their playlist like? their favourite artists? do you associate a particular song with them?

Oh Lila loves music! I know this sounds like a cop out, but she likes all kinds of music. She loves dancing so pretty much anything she can move to. She also has a soft spot for classical music - it was the first kind of music she ever heard. No real favourite artists. As for songs that remind me of her..there’s a lot but an old fave is No More Hiding by Gina Brooklyn.
