"A Rocky Rise" by Carl Evans, 2023
Carl Evans shot this full moon photo from Broadhaven, Pembrokeshire. The outcropping in the middle is known as Church Rock. The image consists of two photos stacked to show the moon through the clouds and the birds in flight around Church Rock. "I stood on the beach at Broadhaven for a couple of hours waiting for the Moon to rise. The clouds initially hid the Moon and as I was walking away it appeared among the clouds, adding a nice effect over it," Evans said of the photoshoot.

rosekiller but evan is the antisocial son of a pastor who is only known to interact with his twin sister. brainwashedly pious and celibate until human roadkill barty crouch is sent to the local church to "get better" (he ends up corrupting evan in many unsavoury ways)
[marking this ask with a comically large red stamp that says ‘EROTIC’] this is really hot. co-signed.
maybe this is cancellable but some of my favorite rosekiller dynamics are those where barty takes a more predatory role. he’s weak & taking it out on someone weaker… especially in religious aus i think evan is particularly susceptible to these attentions because there is always something ineffable about him that is just visibly Wrong.
no matter how quiet & well behaved & generally bland and plain and unassuming evan rosier is (in his beige hand-me-downs two sizes too big) there is something about his face that says: i skin squirrels in the woods & if you pinch me i won’t scream

omg soldier, poet, king is NOT a Christian worship song
folks on tiktok being like YALL DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS ABOUT JESUS??? and "better take it off my dnd playlist now!!!"
it's not about jesus holy fuck, i mean, it is, but it isn't.
Dear Wormwood is a concept album that uses biblical symbolism to talk about an abusive relationship. The Oh Hellos have a whole ass THING about retelling stories (biblical, mythological etc) to use to deal with your own story which is like...a whole thing in storytelling anyway (the new testament is a monomyth yall, Hero's Journey 1.0, in that regard everything is biblical)
Dear Wormwood is put in the context of someone writing letters (inspired by The Screwtape Letters, CS Lewis) to their abuser. "Soldier, Poet, King" is from the perspective of the protagonist, on the receiving end of the abuse, who (after the song "Exeunt") is escaping from the abuse and attempting to continue their life outside of it. The person who is the soldier, poet, king, is the protagonist. "your city" is the abusive relationship. "Wormwood" is the devil of this person's life.
If you look on Genius, yeah the story is about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. In context? It's about the Second Coming of the protagonist. The rebirth they get after escaping.
The ending song of the album, "Thus Always to Tyrants", the last line of the album is
Where I go, will you still follow? Will you leave your shaded hollow? Will you greet the daylight looming? Learn to love without consuming?
The protagonist is attempting to mentally escape from the abuse, worried about carrying the trauma into the next relationship.
Soldier Poet King is not about Jesus. It's about fighting. It's about escaping the cycle of abuse. It's about the power that resides in stories, about people who have experienced this before and succeeded. It's about using those stories and learning from them.
Keep the shit on your dnd playlist, it's sort of the whole point.

All right I’ll say it. Nazi zombie minisode did not work for me at all and I’m mad that I have to suffer the mortifying ordeal of Aziraphale magic show secondhand embarrassment to reap the rewards of Michael Sheen’s horniest of line deliveries and Crowley in that outfit.

Why is everyone praising Sinéad?? S
She converted to Islam. She endorses a very misogynistic and homophobic religion and people are speaking of her as if she were an angel
because she was a mentally ill woman who recently died and she did not spew any misogyny or homophobia so her having misguided beliefs and converting to islam does not automatically make her a bad person

Fall Out Boy were so funny for releasing a song like Church. They really dropped the most raw, relatable, unflinching song about depression and nihilism, and then shoved a horny lil chorus in to distract from the urge to stare into the void in your soul.

"God grant that we may be guided aright, and that He will deign to watch over my husband and those dear to us both, and who are in such deadly peril. As for me, I am not worthy in His sight. Alas! I am unclean to His eyes, and shall be until He may deign to let me stand forth in His sight as one of those who have not incurred His wrath."
Mina...
Mina what the fuck are you talking about?
God doesn't deserve you Mina. It doesn't.
God doesn't deserve to dangle the promise of eternal peace to you. All righteous fearing woman capable of running towards ancient evil to save your dear friend. Insessant, and intelligent fiend who is all kind towards her love, and loved him with all of her might when he was not himself.
Don't blame yourself for the assault, and never think that you are guilty for not having the means to stop it. Mina can't tell herself "if I had been better" she can't. How many times must she torture herself with thoughts of hellfire that are so close in her mind, yet far in reality.
Mina tells that she is not worthy of His sight when god should grovel at her feet for forgiveness. How dare He to make her suffer like this. Mina is not a Martyr nor a Saint. She is not Saint Inés calling for the sword to fall so she can be freed, nor Saint Águeda screaming in joy as she finally died.
Mina's suffering is not holy, it's human. It's so human that it hurts to read. How were her ambitions in life greedy to incur god's wrath upon her? Why must she become another footnote on Dracula's horrible quest for power? (Why was Lucy not saved? Why?)
Mina is losing hope in herself when she is the most strong. She can't let herself become comfortable at the idea of a violent end if it means to be seen in god's light again. Mina can't become suicidal to beg and pray to the being that abandoned her in her most traumatic moments.
Mina may think that she doesn't deserve god, but it's god that doesn't deserve Mina.

Steve always gets his devil horns wrong.
He keeps his thumb out and does the ‘I love you” sign on accident and Eddie never calls him out on it. He even threatens the others under pain of death (their dnd character’s death) to never correct him.
It’s so fucking adorable to see Steve at the edge of the stage, right up front, throwing up an ‘I love you’ at a Corroded Coffin show. Eddie sometimes can’t stand how wrapped around this man’s finger he is.
