Love In Taipei was just ehh. I haven’t read the books so my opinion is based solely on the movie and it just was not doing it for me.
The romance between Ever and both male leads just didn’t seem to develop at all. For like 85% of the movie she was with Rick and then all of a sudden she’s all in for Xavier. Beyond a few looks and a couple conversations they hadn’t built any sort of relationship and then boom together.
The lead actress who played Ever- Ashley Liao was just okay, it really felt like she was reading from cards to remember her dialog; weird pauses before starting a sentence, and no emotion in her speech. Also she’s supposedly 21 (the description of the movie on IMDb says she’s 18 but she literally says “21 years ago they had me” in the first 30 seconds of the movie) , but nothing about her acting or the writing makes it seem like these people are older than Kitty from XO, Kitty. Xavier and Rick were just as bland, Xavier- Nico Hiraga did a bit better showing his emotion, but not by much and Ross Butler-Rick was about what you’d expect if you’ve seen any other teen movie/tv show he’s been in.
This really should’ve been presented as a series and not a hour and half movie. After reading the summary of the book on Wiki, so much seems to be missing and so much is just left unanswered.
Rating 3/10, definitely don’t recommend if you’ve read the books and unless you really love bad teen romance, this is a skip.
The best part of the movie was her Aunt Shu, Cindy Cheung, she was funny and thoughtful and stole every scene she was in.

"Welcome to the Theatre": Diary of a Broadway Baby
Bus Stop
May 13, 2025 | Off-Broadway | CSC/NAATCO/TG | Evening | Play | Revival | 2H 30M | Talkback
I think I just need every classic play done with an all-Asian cast. This coupled with an audience populated heavily by Asians for AAPI night made for a wonderful experience. Bus Stop is a character-driven story that moves slowly to evoke the drudgery of being stranded at a small-town bus stop diner for hours on end. The characters' are all connected by the overarching theme of loneliness and need for human connection. Plus, I just adore Cindy Cheung and would see her in anything.
Add in a talkback with the cast, moderated by Francis Jue, and it was a pretty stellar night worth the long trek downtown. Loved getting to hear about how the cast connected so well with each other specifically because it was an all-Asian cast. They had discussed during rehearsals what it might have meant for all these Asian people of different nationalities to have ended up at the same bus stop in this time and place (rural Kansas in the mid-20th century just a decade or so after internment camps) and if that changed anything. Of course, obviously tensions between nationalities represented in the cast would have meant different things, but they played these roles as Asians with those extra layers. I just want more Asian people on stage playing as many different types of roles as humanly possible. Is that too much to ask?
Verdict: Why I Love the Theatre

Filmes: A Dama na Água (2006)

Categoria: Filmes Gênero: Fantasia/Drama
A DAMA NA ÁGUA Lady in the Water, Estados Unidos, 2006. Direção M. Night Shyamalan. Com Paul Giamatti, Bryce Dallas Howard, Noah Gray-Cabey, Jessica Graham, Cindy Cheung, Bob Balaban, Sarita Choudhury, Brandon Cook, Mary Beth Hurt, Freddy Rodríguez, M. Night Shyamalan, Brian Steele.
