Under capitalism, the inequality of women stems from exploitation of the working class by the capitalist class. But the exploitation of women cuts across class lines and affects all women. Marxism-Leninism views the woman question as a special question which derives from the economic dependence of women upon men. This economic dependence as Engels wrote over 100 years ago, carries with it the sexual exploitation of women, the placing of woman in the modern bourgeois family, as the “proletariat” of the man, who assumes the role of “bourgeoisie.”
Hence, Marxist-Leninists fight to free woman of household drudgery, they fight to win equality for women in all spheres; they recognize that one cannot adequately deal with the woman question or win women for progressive participation unless one takes up the special problems, needs and aspirations of women – as women.

Review of Left of Karl Marx: The Political Life of Black Communist Claudia Jones by Carol Boyce Davies
This was great. Part biography, part political history, the story of Claudia Jones is an important one. It’s also one that I’m shocked i’ve never heard before. Jones was an important activist and political figure in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Yet her story remained largely untold and unwritten. The author, Davies, spent years traveling to different countries and attempting to piece together a rich history of Jones. Because of her work, Jones’ life’s work won’t be lost to time. That’s an amazing feat.
I recently read Cruising Utopia, and while it was a great theoretical book, I found it to be too dense and unreadable by even people who have interest in political theory. I feel like this book is quite the opposite and i really appreciate it. She managed to tell the tale of Jones’ life and political ideology without creating a meaningless word salad. I think that that makes Jones’ story much more accessible, while still including the political theory which defined Jones’ life.
It’s a shame that Jones died before she was able to put together her autobiography. Also! She was literally buried to the left of Karl Marx in the cemetery in london which is pretty cool.
I love that, since Eric Bogosian was not at San Diego Comic Con, Rolin Jones decided to take it upon himself to be the one dropping massive IWTV spoilers in interviews.
“These artificial divisions and antagonisms between British and colonial workers, already costly in toll of generations of colonial wars and ever-recurrent crises, have delayed fundamental social change in Britain, and form the very basis of colour prejudice. The small top section of the working class, bribed and corrupted, and benefiting from this colonial robbery, have been imbued with this racist ‘white superiority’ poison.”

«Imperialism is the root cause of racism. It is the ideology which upholds colonial rule and exploitation. It is the ideology which breeds fascism.» – Claudia Jones, «West Indian Gazette» (1958), quoted in Carole Boyce Davies, Left of Karl Marx: The Political Life of Black Communist Claudia Jones (Durham, NC: Duke University Press, 2008), p. 87
