It’s key to me to keep my socks

       from smelling like my shoes,

to match my pants so I don’t mix

       my browns up with my blues,

to dump my wire hangers and

       use wood for all my clothes,

as these are things a gentleman

I've been in so many closets in my life...

I couldn't be out in high school, so I closeted myself around most friends and my parents,

I went to college and went into a closet to date one of my exs and was repeatedly shoved back in whenever I tried to be honest with him,

When I dated a nonbinary person, I had to keep them a secret when I moved home,

I've had to determine if I was safe enough to be out at my day jobs, so inevitably more closets,

And now, I'm into a 'don't ask don't tell' situation around one of my closest friends, as I'm planning to come out fully to my parents soon
