"Although just 7 kilometres from the city, Bondi was described in 1842 as 'a place of peculiar loneliness... a shining sandy beach unmarked by human foot'. However, rocking carvings alone are clear reminders that many Aboriginal feet have walked these sands long before those of European settlers.
Early Bondi Locals
'Nosey Rob', or Robert 'the Gentleman Hangman' Howard lived a lonely life in the cottage in the top right of this photo. A former horse drawn cab driver, he worked for almost 30 years as the state hangman after being shunned by society following a horribly disfiguring accident, in which his nose was destroyed. This, and his reputation as a decent fellow, who carried out his job with respectability, gave rise to his nicknames.
The Rise of Beach Culture
As surf bathing became more and more popular, changing sheds for 750 men and 250 women were opened in 1911. The foundation stone for a new Bondi Pavillion, which included Turkish baths, a ballroom and a dressing room for 12,000 people was laid in 1928. The excitement and competition of surf carnivals attracted thousands of spectators to Bondi. Hessian screens were put up to keep people off the beach and to charge admission."

Every time your posts show up in my timeline I get a little happier. It means a lot to me :) I don't know who's running this account but it's very obvious that you're well travelled and knowledgeable of the countries of the world. (And have a great love for Teddy!!) So to whoever is running this account, thank you for sharing your travels with us, through Teddy. (≧(エ)≦ )
I'm going Australia NSW this March, and if you've got any recommendations for exploration, I'd love to hear about your adventures!!
:D Thank you!! You telling me of your joy means a lot to me.. Just little ole Teddy's photographer here, while some days I think it could be nice to have someone helping out I don't think I could relinquish the reigns. Just trying to see what I can while I'm here and keep an open mind to new adventures! :) I really enjoy so many aspects of sharing Teddy's adventures. I get a little photo diary of where I've been and Teddy does a great job of tying it all together. I do have a love for Teddy and am quite protective of the little guy. He needs some support you know? I'm so happy that you're enjoying supporting Teddy and really appreciate you taking the time to tell me.
Ooo how exciting! That's tough! It's a big area!! Will you have a vehicle? Where will you be going? I think I tagged all the photos I took in NSW with either #NSW or #Australia so I would definitely recommend searching those on my page for some photographic inspiration.
If you're going through Sydney a neat way to see the opera house is to take the ferry across the bay -- there is a line that shoots straight across and takes you right past the opera house. It's only a few dollars so I think it's a lot cheaper than the bay tours you can get.
Royal National Park is gorgeous, depending if you like to hike there are some great coastal walks you can do there.
Rock climbing and hiking in the Blue Mountains is beautiful.
Obviously you need to get some meat pies. So many cafes and otherwise will sell a huge variety and just yum.
Teddy and I lived over in Australia for about a year and a half and were planning to be there longer but Covid threw a major wrench into those plans (got laid off, living out of a van, foreign country and no way to have a stock up of food while all the grocery stores were emptying out... it had some scary aspects to it). But living there that long there was time for us to explore the area in more depth. I'm not sure how much you have available in this trip so that could help narrow the recommendations.
Feel free to shoot me a message and I'll try to go into more depth on anything you want more information on :)

Heavy coastal rains last night seemed to have washed Sydney clean, so I made my way to Tamarama Beach.
I set up my tripod and was scoping the scene when a young pregnant English woman walked into the shot, she & her entourage of friends (one with a camera) proved me a middle aged invisible person. So I thought “bugger them”, and took my pic.

Nah fuck off mate, I just saw Gray walking down the fucking street- isn't that dude supposed to be in Sydney?
also try guess my country using educational facts (because the fourth wall doesn't exist anymore):
It's a slavic country, located in eastern europe, known for it's unique cuisine and beautiful coastal beaches. It's quite a developed country, also known for it's reliable public transport, amazing literature (some boring, speaking from experience) and insanely smart people, for example Nicholas Copernicus.
It has pretty famous cities, with even more famous catholic churches, one of the most well-known being the St. Mary's Church in one of the countries oldest cities. It's a very catholic country and known to be pretty homophobic (rude 😒). They had one pope and there's a roundabout named in his honour not far from one of the countries cities that attracts the most tourists.
The country is also the home to many brilliant castles and stunning architecture, all from different time periods- which is actually really cool since say, people in the Renaissance era saw stuff that was built in the Baroque era and basically gave it a light academia upgrade.
Can you guess the country? I'm gonna be doing this till someone gets it then do that in every country I visit/ed

Garry Shead (b 1942, Sydney) is one of Australia's most celebrated contemporary figurative painters, with his work steeped in allegory and symbolism, inviting spiritual, philosophical and historical interpretation.
"Garry Shead is regarded as one of Australia’s finest narrative painters and printmakers. Along with Sidney Nolan and Arthur Boyd, Shead has illuminated the Australian story and its myths to a wide and appreciative audience. His imagery has an ability to transcend the personal and reach into that universal realm of shared meaning. The inspiration behind one of Shead’s enduring narrative series was the novel Kangaroo written by the great English novelist, essayist and poet, D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930). Shead had developed an affinity with the writings of Lawrence during a trip to Papua New Guinea in 1968, and, in Kangaroo, this would trigger a resounding deep-felt response to the distinct Lawrentian narrative that Lawrence himself described as a ‘thought-adventure’.
After arriving in Fremantle in May 1922, Lawrence and his wife Frieda travelled to Sydney where they soon found themselves in the small coastal village of Thirroul, renting a seaside bungalow named Wyewurk. It was here the adventure began - an adventure that would last less than three months and produce the novel Kangaroo in just over six weeks.
The emotional complexity of the novel radiating from the protagonists, the poet/writer Richard Lovatt Somers and his wife Harriet; the simmering nationalist urges arising from the aftermath of World War I; the socialist ideal for a more equal society, all played out against the implacable backdrop of the bush. While the ocean and beach to the east reflected a feeling of purity and pleasure, the bush to the west remained a dark, impenetrable mystery - a brooding presence.
This contrasting impact is reflected in two fine disparate works by Shead. The Cliff 1992 is in many ways an antipodean seaside idyll with a twist; while The Visitation 1993-94 could be construed as a premonition of a long overdue reckoning. In the former work, the lovers are interrupted in their reverie by the presence of a raucous kookaburra. The scene is inspired by the steep cliff face at Thirroul overlooking the sea. Shead locates the cleansing sea as a place of respite – of atonement. In addition, the menacing posture of the kookaburra implies an unwelcome presence. The lovers could be seen as intruders, ignorant of the deep time that has forged a unique and mysterious landscape and culture. The precarious proximity of the cliff face in relation to the lovers also signals the tenuous hold the European mindset has on this land.
The lovers could be seen as the protagonists of the novel, Richard and Harriet, or perhaps Lawrence himself and Frieda. Yet again, it could be Shead and his then wife, Judit. In any event, there appears to be a pesky kookaburra to contend with, adding a comic note to the clifftop coupling.
In The Visitation, Shead has painted a curiously disturbing composition. The presence of the male Indigenous figure standing on the veranda railing appears real yet strangely dreamlike. Probably from the local Dharawal people of the Illawarra, he is adorned in ceremonial markings signalling the gravity of his ‘visit.’ Curiously, the symbolic image of Kangaroo, leader of the ultra-right movement who once dominated Lawrence’s thoughts, has now receded into the background. The local political intrigue and its concomitant of players falls to the wayside. The writers’ thoughts are now focused on the indigenous presence that has survived theft of lands, atrocities, and systematic marginalisation. In the novel, little detail is revealed about an Aboriginal presence in the landscape. Yet, early in the novel Richard Somers does confront the ‘spirit of the place’1 while walking in the west Australian bush. The anonymous narrator of the novel delves into Somers’ predicament as he confronts his fear of the bush: ‘As a poet, [Somers] felt himself entitled to all kinds of emotions and sensations which an ordinary man would have repudiated. Then he let himself feel all sorts of things about the bush … Waiting, waiting – the bush seemed to be hoarily waiting. And he could not penetrate into its secret. He couldn’t get at it. Nobody could get at it. What was it waiting for?’
To further appreciate Shead’s The Visitation, one needs again to delve into the text of the novel, tracing Somers’ and Lawrence’s apprehension of the place: ‘He felt it was watching and waiting. Following with certainty just behind his back. It might have reached a long black arm and gripped him. But no, it wanted to wait ... It was biding its time with a terrible, ageless watchfulness, waiting for a far-off end, watching the myriad intruding white men.’
Back on the veranda at Wyewurk, one senses the beginning of a dialogue between the invader and the usurped. Thirty years since Shead painted The Visitation, the nation is now finally focused on reconciliation. Perhaps in time, we will witness this ‘far-off end.’

Daphne-Jean was the production of a whirlwind love story. Her mother was a part of a traveling tour group from the US, taking a 32 day trip to go see the world. They were stopped in Australia for 2 days, where she met Daphne’s soon-to-be father and they fell in-love. To make a long story, short, her mother never finished out her trip; cutting all ties from her birth state of Florida to just make roots with this new guy in a foreign country. Wanting to move somewhere more family-oriented than the city of Sydney, they chose to start their family in the small coastal town of Port Fairy. It took a year for them to tie the knot, and another year for Daphne-Jean to be brought into the world. It was a job opportunity that uprooted the Blissett household from Port Fairy and rooted them here in Manoa Bay merely two years after DJ was born.
Growing up in the Blissett home consisted of going to the local roller rink or bowling alley on Fridays, and dancing around on Sunday mornings whilst making a hearty homemade breakfast. Though the town was small, Daphne-Jean was never deprived of activities to do. The beach providing good waves for surfing in the summers, and the local theatre never short of local and global talent on their calendar.
Daphne-Jean was first coined as ‘DJ’ by her father, and though her mother was diligent in calling her by her full name (being named after her grandmother), her mom even eventually caved. The usage of the nickname grew as she attended school and made more friends beyond her dance classes. Her mom always bragged about how DJ danced before she genuinely walked, and as she has always been known for running on her toes because of it. Her younger years in dance classes marked her love for music, and a major bonding point for her and her mother. One of DJ’s favorite memories as a kid was doing jazzercise videos with her mother. They also shared a love for the 80′s aesthetic and music. Still being a huge part of her brand to this day; both fashion-wise and music-wise with influence. DJ always admired the bold color choices, and the upbeat music that just made you wanna breakout in dance.
It was DJ’s charm and outgoing personality that made her popular. Sure, her looks played a part, but the genuine compassion that radiated out of her so easily made her liked even by those who would normally hate the popular kids. Though she was a social butterfly who had no issue with making friends, there was always a struggle in the romance department. Maybe it was a form of self-harming in a weird addiction sense, or maybe it was just the fact she was popular and attracted the attention, that she always seemed to be in a toxic relationship. Even if it was not always the other person, DJ always had a way of shifting blame because there could never be anything wrong with her. At the end of the day, she always had a justification for her actions - and her perception of it would be the only one that mattered. That didn’t mean she didn’t deal with her fair share of assholes; one in particular being a constant through her high school career. It was a toxic circle of jealousy and games, but DJ just couldn’t find an ‘out’ - mostly because she liked the highs so much, that she didn’t want an ‘out’.
During her 3rd year of high school, DJ started drinking and partaking in experimentation of drugs. It was triggered by her toxic flame at the time, but also her parents’ divorce. Her wild side came out as a scream for help, not necessarily wanting to lean on her father or mother because of how hard both were taking it. It was also the fact that both were taking it so hard, that it confused DJ as to why they were getting a divorce to begin with. It wasn’t until she graduated high school, that she became aware of her mother’s BPD and the negative aspects to her respective case that caused the split; overspending, infidelity - it was too much for DJ to see her mother that way. It also was marked as a wakeup call for DJ when her father would state she was ‘acting’ like her mother. It caused her to cut ties and flee, a part of her always unsettled by how easy it was for her to leave her small town and travel to the city with nothing more than $10 to her name.
DJ never took school seriously, and thus she had to fall back on her skills to obtain a job that could support her in Sydney: stripping. It was during this time in her life that she genuinely felt the most alone she’s ever felt, and so she turned to alcohol and drugs to cope. One of her good friends who was a co-worker of hers, hooked her up with a ‘nice guy’. He did wind up getting DJ into a rehab facility, and DJ instantly obtained a therapist to stay clean when she got out of rehab. The issue was, he started to change - expecting way more from DJ because he credited himself fully for getting her clean. It was like clockwork, how the toxicity followed her in such a vicious cycle. She relapsed twice before actually leaving him.
DJ’s therapist made the correlation known to her, between her happiness and music. It was supposed to be a silly little ‘project’ for her therapy session to come up with a song to air out her emotions about her most toxic ex who wouldn’t leave her alone. She wasn’t expecting her drunkenly posting it on TikTok to go viral. It was an overnight sensation, and that had everything to do with how brutally honest she was; her songwriting more like she was speaking to her best friend that just so happened to be the world. She kept her stage name as DJ Bliss, and is known as DJ, Bliss, or just DJ Bliss by her fanbase - her old identity now something she quickly forgot.
A major record deal came into the picture after 3 years of DJ being a pop star in her bedroom. Though she felt hesitance with what the label contract entailed (practically going from home-based to now international), she signed on and moved to NYC. She’s only been signed to the label for 8 months, but her debut EP is set to be launched by this upcoming October. ‘Til then, she’s still learning the ropes when it comes to this music industry stuff; only really used to fully managing and running her stuff, herself. And also just leaking stuff she shouldn’t be, currently. Recently, she came back to Manoa Bay to see how her family is doing as well as hearing the gossip about Hayden's case progressing. You can catch her as a guest DJ at Oasis Nightclub!
EXTRA-EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT HER!
DJ’s either in a super good mood, or in the worst mood ever. She’s coded in extremities, and maybe that had something to do with a mental illness in her family history, but she’s not properly diagnosed with anything. She seeks out thrills, and is a sort of ‘yes’ woman when it comes to last minute trips or activities such as skydiving. DJ is a huge partier, though she is over 8 months sober (and counting), she still loves to let loose and have fun; never turning down an opportunity to dance and have fun. She’s quick to make friends, and can be very supportive. The downfall, is that in a romantic sense she is easily bored. So, if it’s not something toxic, she will make it toxic herself just to watch it self-destruct in her face. She is prone to jealousy and will try to make others jealous. She’s also petty in the sense of loving the chase more than anything, and to be chased. DJ is quick to fall into lust and infatuation, but hates being romanticized. Even though, she’s prone to romanticizing things (especially strangers), and this is because she feels everything so deeply but also because the way she sees things is just how they are to her. This also makes her really stubborn, and it’s hard to have her see things from a different perspective other than her own. DJ doesn’t really think things through, but it makes for great stories. She loves fashion with lots of color, even her black clothing having some rainbow-esque or neon accents to it. She also loves her hair curled and she’s coined a hot pink as her signature color: loving how it’s confident yet happy as a color. She’s also almost never in pants. Her go-to is a skirt or dress, and if she has to wear pants then they’re either sheer or short-shorts. DJ is prone to being optimistic to an unrealistic degree, but she means well and for the most part it’s a self-coping way for her to get in a better mindset. She’s currently questioning her sexuality; thinking maybe it’s not her but the boys who’re making it hard for her to build serious meaningful connections with, but she’s keeping that on the down-low as she’s experimenting more with her bisexuality to figure it out. At the end of the day, she’s someone who radiates fun and she understands struggle - so she’s a great person to have in your life if you need some sunshine, just be careful when her storm clouds start brewing.

Parents Weekend! (Week 10)
As soon as I landed on Sydney as my study abroad destination, my parents began planning their trip to visit. Traveling and intercultural experiences have always been a priority for my family, so the opportunity for me to spend a semester abroad was something we were all excited about. Even more exciting was the chance to show my parents and brother around my new home - something I had been looking forward to since the day I arrived. Having just over one full weekend with them before they continued their travels, I planned to hit all my favorite spots and walks. The Friday they landed I met them at their hotel in Randwick, a nearby suburb and the location of my university, and we went straight to Thaithae which has one of the most flavorful Massamun Chicken Curries I’ve ever had. From there, we took the bus to Coogee where I showed off my hostel accommodation, Coogee Bay Road, and most importantly, Coogee Beach! Needless to say, the fam was thrilled. The shining sun and calm ocean water were like paid actors in a film, ready to play their part and impress. The jellyfish, on the other hand, were like TV extras gone rogue – they just wanted their time in the spotlight. I had never seen many jellyfish at Coogee before, but they didn’t stop us from taking a dip and soaking in the sun. After a few hours, we embarked on the coastal walk to Bondi where we planned on eating dinner. The journey, though gnarly at times, is one I would recommend to all visitors, especially as the sun starts to set and the blue sky turns into a whole palette of colors ranging from pink to yellow. I’ve walked the path countless times and each trek I feel the need to take more pictures that never quite capture the beauty. After dinner, we made our way to Bondi beach where we treated ourselves to Anita Gelato, the best gelato in town (or, at least, the gelato with the longest line in town)! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a loyal customer to Gelato Messina (an Australian classic), but something about Anita’s just never disappoints.

^^ Just another picture of the Coogee-Bondi walk!
Saturday was just as packed. We woke up early and made our way into the city where we had an opera show booked in none other than the Sydney Opera House!! This was my first time getting up close to Sydney’s most renowned landmark, so I was very excited to share the moment with my family. This was also my first time watching an opera! I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting, but I was sorely disappointed by the lack of monocles in the audience. That said, I was incredibly impressed with the production of La Traviata, a dramatic love story set in 19th century Paris in which a dying courtesan, Violetta, finds true love with a young nobleman and they flee to the countryside together only to be forced apart by the man’s father. Upon reconnection, she passed away. Though in a different language, the singing and performing was one-of-a-kind and the screens with a rolling translation to English made the show very accessible. I was also enamored by the view of the city and water from inside the Opera house despite the architecture being slightly less impressive on the inside compared to the beautiful exterior.

The rest of the day was filled with a quick visit to the Museum of Sydney and a long walk through the city. Even without a concrete plan, I love walking around the city and finding my own little detours, foods to try, and adventures to embark on. We made our way down Pitt street and ended up in the bustling Chinatown full of restaurants and desserts.
On our last full day together, I was adamant that we take the ferry to Manly where we could chill on the beach all day and explore a different part of Sydney. I also just love the ferry ride which takes you down the Sydney Harbor and showcases all the coastal neighborhoods atop hills and cliffs along the water. In Manly, we walked over to Shelly beach which is actually known to be one of the best snorkeling spots in Sydney, but we sought it out for the calmer water. Catching the sunset ferry back proved harder to time than expected, but we came pretty darn close!
Tumblr media
^^ Sydney Harbor during sunset as seen from the ferry.
Before their flight to Melbourne, my parents and I walked around the University of New South Wales campus in Randwick and then we went up to Paddington to see the Art and Design campus where I have my photography class. We also visited the Sydney Jewish Museum in Paddington which was very educational regarding the culture and history of Judaism in Sydney. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the museum constantly hosts students on class field trips as we were met with hundreds of students on tours making their way through the exhibits. I highly recommend this museum to anyone in the area!
Showing my family around my favorite and most frequented spots in Sydney was extremely rewarding and made me so happy throughout the weekend. I would never have made it out here without my parents’ support and I am extremely grateful for everything they have done to get me to Sydney and ensure I enjoy my time here. Thank you, Mom and Dad!

First, I must say that your Kylar design has to be the best for me. I love everyone's depiction of them, but yours gives the feel of a disgusting sad british wet dog. I really like the slightly older look your still gives the characters!
Second, if it strikes your fancy, may I see your version if Corrupted!Sydney? Or if you prefer to play them pure! Personally, I like to keep his hair as it is... for some reason, black haired Sydney intimidates me a little bit KAJFIFODH
And lastly, you should try Alex some time! You can go to the farmlands via Harvets street or the coastal path, which is found at the docks. Both ways are good, but with the former you can try to ask for a ride and get one without getting molested or assaulted, reducing the total of two hours in game walk, and the latter won't have the chance of a ride but will be safer (although you can have a jog that last 1:30 at the expense of some fatigue if you have... I belive C on athletic). Alex is like a mix of Robin and a friendly Whitney, or how their parent describes them: dogged.
hi anon!!! i figured id answer because theres some other stuff in here too but i will draw sydney for you this weekend dont worry!!
im so glad you like my kylar i try very hard to make him look kind of gross but also like a guy you could run into! re age: a lot of the non school NPCs i headcanon to be of a previous generation "cycle" for the lack of a better word! like how the pc has robin, sydney, whitney, and such around them in school, i feel like there was a previous generation of this as well.
a big underlying theme in the game, to me, is about generational abuse and trauma and passing this on to youth. i like to think that this previous "cycle" failed utterly and became just another generation corrupted and twisted by the town. eden, bailey, briar, remy, niki, jordan, all the others... it's why i have trouble seeing them as younger than late twenties, most of them are well in their thirties for me! also i am literally in my thirties soooo i am showing my entire old ass here
my friend and i have a vague plotline about how our twin pcs' mother was a part of this group as well and disappeared after leaving her children at the orphanage, but maybe those are some drawings for another day.
i've been hanging around alex a bit this week and i'm... kind of waiting for a hook?! like he's a good dude but he doesn't have a lot going on?! im sorry to all alex likers he is just a little vanilla for me so far :')
