I Can't Tell You How Great Smoke on the Water Is
I think the first time I had a Smoke on the Water I was eating tacos by the dozen. Sadly or luckily or whatever, I wasn’t drinking Smoke on the Waters by the dozen. But I did start having a hankering for them while eating tacos on a hot summer day. Once you love tequila, it’s not that far to acquiring a mezcal fetish as well. Then when you stumble upon a cocktail at a joint that is particularly…

Sidecar !
Ingredients:
2 ounces VSOP Cognac, Armagnac, or good California brandy
1 ounce Cointreau
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
Superfine sugar, for garnish (optional)
Orange or lemon twist, for garnish (optional)
Directions:
Optional: Prepare cocktail glass by making a slit in a lemon wedge and running the cut edge around the rim of the glass; then dip the rim in a saucer of superfine sugar to create a thin crust. Chill the glass until needed.
Combine brandy, Cointreau, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake well until chilled, about 10 seconds. Strain into prepared glass; garnish with a twist of orange or lemon peel, if the urge comes across.

Corpse Reviver No. 2
Tumblr media
Corpse Revivers have been popular hangover cures since the 19th Century, but one doesn't need to be tipsy to indulge in these tipples! Corpse Reviver No. 2, my favourite of the lot, is indeed best enjoyed sober, I reckon; its delectable tartness enhanced by a hint of sweetness (from the orange liqueur) and a dash of herbaceous flavour (from the absinthe)! It certainly does lift one's spirits up! Cheers!
Ingredients (serves 1):
1/4 teaspoon absinthe
6 large ice cubes
22.5 millilitres/3/4 fluid ounces (1 1/2 tablespoon) London Dry Gin
22.5 millilitres/3/4 fluid ounces (1 1/2 tablespoon) Lillet Blanc
22.5 millilitres/3/4 fluid ounces (1 1/2 tablespoon) orange liqueur (like Cointreau)
1/2 juicy lemon
Pour absinthe in a chilled coupe glass, and swirl it around the glass before pouring it out, to rinse.
Place ice cubes in a shaker.
Top with Gin, Lillet Blanc and Cointreau.
Thoroughly squeeze in the juice of the lemon halve.
Close shaker tightly and shake energetically until well-chilled.
Strain into prepared coupe glass.
Enjoy Corpse Reviver No.2 immediately.
