On yet another ice planet:
Hera: Alright everyone, we got the stuff, let's get out of here.
Sabine: Um, Zeb, why do you have a vaguely Kallus shaped lump on you?
Zeb: Oh, you know how he is.
----earlier----
Kallus: *walks out of Ghost, looks at snow*
Kallus: No.
Kallus: *walks up to Zeb, unzips his jumpsuit*
Kallus: *steps into suit with Zeb*
Kallus: *zips suit back up*

Had the world's most realistic dream last night that involved Zeb in the Ahsoka show with like a wedding ring tan line (no idea why he wasn't wearing it at the time) and he was talking about how he and Kallus spent a lot of their time in their garden at home and Dream-Me was like "man, I can't believe nobody else is talking about this scene, I should double check and make sure it actually happened" and then I woke up and I wanted to cry a little

I know it’s fun to extrapolate from Kallus’s cold, sterile room at the end of “The Honorable Ones” and imagine the Rebellion is his first experience with love and comfort, but having read the Kallus comics, I don’t think Kallus spent seventeen years lonely and friendless. The man had friends! “Kallus’s Hunt” is about his best friend from the academy; “No Sympathy” is about his favorite protege/student.
Of course, both comics are about him hunting down these characters after they defect. But Kallus’s problem is not that he never made friends while working for the Empire. Kallus’s problem, based on this sample set of two, is that the Venn diagram between people he respects and people who see through the Empire’s lies is a circle.
There might be a lesson here, Kallus. You’ll figure it out eventually.

something about Kallus (born on Coruscant, currently living in a glorified hallway) seeing lothal for the first time. there’s grass! And mountains! And a lot of big empty space! The sky is so big! How? Is this possible??
but he’s not allowed to go near it. The local wildlife (there’s wildlife!! And it’s cute!!) are considered too much of a hassle. He doesn’t even get to feel the landscape rush by him when he’s in a speeder. No, he’s always inside, a sort of cage of his own making.
when he’s on the ice moon, it’s one of the first times he really feels the pull, the call that nature holds out to him. It’s cold and freezing and miserable, but it’s still something real. And zeb almost seems to embody it, a wild that cannot, will not be contained. He wants to push it away almost as much as he wants to embrace it. Embrace him.
when he gets back, the artificial lights hurt more than before. The walls seem to echo every footstep with a metallic clang. Every moment someone makes feels robotic, even the air feels stiff and rigid. He lays the meteorite down on the plasteel shelf, and the contrast between the two feels as loud as war. It somehow reminds him of himself.
When he turns off the lights, he could almost imagine the grass under him, the midnight breeze and the smell of flowers. As if that rock of unknown properties is a star, as seen from on a planet, not a ship. The mountains in his mind hold him close, and he whispers a name for the lone star. “Garazeb”
Kallus often wonders what atollon is like. Seeing it, being there would be selfish of him. How could he continue to serve from afar if he is close by? When he does get glimpses, it makes him long for the things he never knew. When the wind blows into you, does the sand travel with it and scrape your skin? What does the ground feel like when the sun warms it? The animals there, do they cry out when they fall asleep as he so often does? It’s perhaps one of the cruelest tortures that Thrawn inflicts on him. How he wants to be down there, alongside everyone and everything he’s never gotten the chance to hold.
The first thing he noticed about Yavin 4 was how the vines seem to snake up the side of whatever desolate structure the rebels are using as a base. They infiltrate the lines between the stone tiles that make up much of the landing zone. He asks zeb if he could touch one, just for a moment and is surprised when the lasat laughs. The plants feel warm to the touch, as if they were secretly a type of lizard who basks in the sun. There’s a corse grain underneath it all, a pattern and a rhythm, different than the strictness of the Empire. It flows, similar to a wave. It extends and encompasses the base, but still pulls back to shore. It reflects them all.
on lothal, he once again sees the grass ripple in the wind as the ship he spent years chasing returned home. he steps out of the ghost and into the infinite field, transported back to the moment he saw this place for the first time. And he loves it no less.

Apparently, Kallus wrote a memoir about serving the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, and I have so many headcanons about this I just had to get one of them out
Hey @woottoncreek @jackieparty I did the thing
Bright flames flickered in the fireplace, filling the study with a warm, comfortable light. The sun over Lira San had long since set, but the flames were more than enough to make up for the darkness outside.
As the door to the study opened, a breeze drifted in, causing Kallus to lift his gaze from the blank page before him. In the viewport’s reflection, he found Zeb stepping inside, balancing two cups of tea on a tray in one hand. In his other hand was a plate with what now must be Kallus’ cold dinner.
Kallus turned in his chair, grimacing apologetically. “I’m sorry. What time is it?”
Zeb placed the plate next to Kallus with a fond chuckle. “Time for you to take a break.” He pushed away the stylus on the desk to make room for the tray.
“Yeah.” Kallus dragged a hand down his face. He shook his head before glancing down at the book before him. “I just… It’s really important I get this part right.”
Zeb pushed their old armchair up to the desk, seating himself with a cup of tea. “How far have you gotten?”
For a moment, Kallus was quiet, his eyes staring unseeingly at the page before him. Then, he turned to meet Zeb’s eyes with a small, contemplative smile. “Bahryn.”
A smile mirroring Kallus’ grew on Zeb's lips, and he slowly nodded. “I see. That's… That's pretty complicated stuff.”
Kallus nodded, his eyes returning to the book. Bahryn had been the beginning of many things. It had also been the end of a life he had poured everything into. He wished he could say that end had been a long time coming. Unfortunately, that hadn’t been the case. Zeb called it complicated. And, well, in a way, Kallus supposed it was; discovering the truth about the Empire and consequently becoming a rebel spy hadn’t been easy, but… Could it really be considered complicated if all it took for him to question everything was one night in the company of an honorable man?
“Bahryn was a lot of things, but honestly? I wouldn't change any of it.” Zeb nudged Kallus with his elbow, his smile turning warm.
Zeb’s touch had Kallus return to the present, where all his choices had already been made. “I could think of a thing or two,” he muttered. To steer the conversation away from the dark corner of his mind he would rather not find himself in tonight, he pointedly placed his hand on his right knee, gently massaging the spot where an ache had been building for the last hour.
A soft sigh was followed by Zeb’s murmured, “You’re right.” He moved the cane leaning against the desk to the side to scoot closer. “Are you gonna mention your knee?”
“Ofcourse.” Kallus turned to Zeb with raised eyebrows. “How else could I explain why my enemy decided to not just kill me straight away?”
A playful spark entered Zeb’s eyes, and he tilted his head to the side. “Your rugged good looks?”
Kallus snorted, shaking his head. “Don’t sell yourself short.”
Zeb shrugged. “It wasn’t that big of a deal.”
Kallus gave Zeb an incredulous look. It seemed his husband would be the first to get a copy of his memoir once it was finished. Kallus placed his hand over Zeb’s, locking their gazes. “It was everything. And the Galaxy should know it.“

Periodically I remember that Kallus defected from the Empire because he spent a night next to Zeb on a cold lonely planet and imagined what it would be like to be held by those big gentle warm purple arms.

Hey, hi, cool, so I just thought, for no reason that I can think of at this particular time, you all might want to fall back into the Kalluzeb rabbit hole with me, especially since they didn't get onscreen resolution for the desperate need I had for them to kiss, so fic is here to help solve that for us. Also feelings. So many, many feelings. And delicious mutual pining and hilarity of two idiots who clearly want to bang each other, with the knowledge that Zeb eventually will totally get his man (Steve Blum said so!!! just like that!!!) which makes it fun to watch two dumbasses circle each other around. Or finally give in because there's definitely a lot of giving in. Anyway, yes, have some STAR WARS REBELS fic, centered on Kallus and Zeb just because I thought it would be a fun side trip today. No reason! Just seemed like the thing to do, is all! STAR WARS REBELS KALLUZEB FIC RECS: ✦ A Lasat Walks into a Bar by Holderisms, zeb/kallus, the mandalorian spoilers, 1.3k    After speaking with Teva, Zeb gets a drink. Even when someone is waiting on him. ✦ Eudaemonia by Bur, zeb/kallus, 7.9k    Alexsandr never expected to find peace more terrifying than war. ✦ Hoth is (Not) for Lovers by bar2d2s, zeb/kallus, 1.2k    Hoth is cold and Kallus is miserable. Set only just before Empire Strikes Back. ✦ Falling in Love with the Right Now (Poster Boy) by akaparalian, (pre-)zeb/kallus & ghost crew, 1.6k    Somewhere out there in the galaxy, there's a rebel propaganda artist who deserves a raise. ✦ It Works on You by Kereea, zeb/kallus, 3.2k    Humans and lasats can have very different ideas about what's attractive. Zeb and Kallus still tend to line up by each other's standards. ✦ Warmth by icarus_chained, zeb/kallus, 1.6k    Zeb and Kallus, in the aftermath of Zero Hour. Someone needs to put Kallus back together, or near as can be managed. ✦ Mating Rituals by Velvedere, zeb/kallus & sabine & cast, 4.7k    Zeb has been acting weird lately. Kallus vents to Sabine about it. ✦ in your warmth I forget how cold it can be by dykeannebonny, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 3.6k    "Are you going to kiss me, Garazeb Orrelios?" Alex's lips were parted; he inhaled deeply through his mouth. "I'm thinkin' about it," Zeb said quietly. ✦ What We Want by TheTrashMan (Viraaja), Viraaja, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 12k    Kallus and Zeb realize what it is they want from each other: sex, obviously. ✦ Falling in Love with the Right Now (Poster Boy) by akaparalian, zeb/kallus & phoenix crew, 1.6k    Somewhere out there in the galaxy, there's a rebel propaganda artist who deserves a raise. ✦ The Care and Keeping of Ex-Imperials Who Need Coffee, a Nap, and a Hug in That Order by akaparalian, kallus & phoenix crew (& some zeb/kallus), 8.8k    Five Ghost crew members who helped Alexsandr Kallus, and one who he helped in return. ✦ In the Middle of the Night by bar2d2s, hera & kallus (background kanan/hera & zeb/kallus), 1.8k    When one member of your self-made family is pregnant, you’re all pregnant. ✦ Celestial Navigation by ambiguously, zeb/kallus, 1.7k    Kallus doesn't understand why Zeb's not sad. ✦ Untitled Rebels Fic by Mirror and Image, zeb/kallus & cast, 11.6k    Kallus, on Yavin IV, sees a Lasat that isn't Zeb. Things go as expected. ✦ When we have peace by apocrypha73, zeb/kallus, 2.9k    After the Battle of Endor, Kallus and Zeb enjoy the celebration. ✦ The Last Parking Spot on Lovers' Lane by ambiguously, zeb/kallus & hera & cast, 3.7k    All Zeb wants is to find a nice quiet spot to make out. This is not as easy as it should be. ✦ Speculation by Nana, zeb/kallus & ap-5, 1k    "AP-5," Kallus said, "are you under the impression that Captain Orrelios and I are involved, romantically?" "It is common knowledge at the base, sir. You don't have to deny it just because I am a droid." ✦ roisters by spookykingdomstarlight, zeb/kallus, 1.8k    For once, he is willing to put aside his thoughts and act. “Garazeb,” he says, because he is the only one who calls Zeb by his full name and because he’s noticed the way Zeb’s fur ripples in pleasure after he says it and somewhere in the back of his mind he knows that means something. “A word?” ✦ in this world by xpityx, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 2.1k    It had been eight months. Eight months since he'd last seen Alex in person. He'd still been Kallus then, had still been convinced that the Ghost crew were taking him to his executioners. ✦ The Sea Has Ten Thousand Names by ambiguously, zeb/kallus, 2.6k    Living on a new planet is hard when you don't know the language. ✦ Date Night by ambiguously, zeb/kallus & kanan/hera & jacen, 1.7k    Asking your not-boyfriend out on a date is even harder when he's stuck babysitting for his friends. ✦ Heard It in a Love Song (Can't Be Wrong) by ambiguously, zeb/kallus, 2.7k    Kallus can't quite figure out what makes Zeb tick, but he keeps trying. ✦ a more than mutually beneficial agreement by wrennette, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 3.1k    It takes a while, getting ex-Agent Kallus to open up. ✦ Another Mission, Another Mess by icarus_chained, zeb/kallus & kanan/hera & ghost crew, 6.5k    Kallus has been slowly intergrating into the crew when the Ghost is assigned to a normal supply run. The mission goes south, as it usually does, Zeb takes a hit, Kallus doesn't take it well, and the rest of the crew try to pick of the pieces. Another mission, another mess. Just another day on the Ghost. ✦ Rebel Teamwork by sempaiko, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 4.9k    How many Rebels does it take to screw in a lightbulb? ✦ Unscheduled Contact by Kala_Sathinee, zeb/kallus & cast, NSFW, 3.4    During a rescue mission, Zeb gets stranded aboard the Chimaera when it jumps to hyperspace. He and Kallus make the most of the time. ✦ just another damn of the damns you're not giving by shades, zeb/kallus & cast, NSFW, 6.8k    The thing is, Zeb’s handsy. ✦ taste of pleasure by wrennette, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 1.2k    The one where Zeb follows through on his idea of fucking Sasha full of come and then eating him out until he cries ✦ Scent Blind by Rachello344, zeb/kallus & cast, NSFW, 4.4k    Alexsandr has been avoiding Zeb since he joined the Rebellion in full, convinced that prolonged contact with the Lasat will prove his undoing. As long as Zeb smells so unfathomably good, he’ll never be able to speak with him casually, especially now that there are no other divides between them. If only Zeb had gotten the memo that Alexsandr was doing this for both their sakes. Unfortunately, it seems Zeb can’t, or won’t, take a hint. ✦ In Your Orbit by LoveCrumb, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 3.2k    After wanting to touch Zeb for so long, Alex reaches up and runs his hands down Zeb’s wide chest. The fur there, like much of his body, is short and thick; it feels velvety as Alex strokes downward, and more textured and coarse on the upstroke. ✦ We Belong Way Down Below by Mithrigil, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 1.6k    Zeb runs into Kallus on a routine mission. He doesn't know how that resulted in both of them getting off, but he's not complaining. ✦ ibac jaon by wrennette, zeb/kallus, nsfw, 3.9k    Fulcrum had given up on being found. ✦ Cogs by ambiguously, zeb/kallus, 1.1k    "You brought him home. That makes him yours." ✦ ever so patiently by Anonymous, zeb/kallus, NSFW, 21.2k    Lasat have very peculiar mating habits. No one thought to tell Kallus about that. or: Kallus is the last one to find out he’s being courted.

my little sister is now steadfastly refusing to watch season 2 ep 17 of rebels because she’s seen the thumbnail and is just confident that something terrible is going to happen. she’s convinced that either zeb kills kallus or kallus kills zeb or they both die a tragic death in the cold. and i have no idea how to convince her otherwise without spoiling things BUT, i am having fun.

Kallus returning from his blanketfic experience with a warm, lovable beefcake, only to be "greeted" coldly by his colleague and return to his spartan single berth.
It's no wonder he kept clutching onto the meteorite said lovable beefcake gave him. It's no wonder he put it next to his cold, lonely berth.
It's no wonder he decided to do anything in his power to be by that beefcake's side once again.

Ezra: If you put a milkshake in one yard and crack open a cold one in another yard, which yard would the boys go to? Zeb: Schrödinger's boys. Sabine: KRIFF! Rex: What about cracking open a cold milkshake? Kallus: As we all know, the milkshake brings the boys to the yard. The presence of the boys is a prerequisite for the cracking open of a cold one, but cold ones do not have any inherent boy-attracting abilities. Milkshakes, however, do. Kallus: All else being equal, the boys would proceed to the milkshake yard. While it is possible to announce the presence of cold ones in the hope of attracting some boys, the pull of the milkshake is much more powerful by comparison. Ezra: … Rex: … Zeb: … Sabine: … Kallus: Mind you, all of this nonsense hinges on whether or not the boys are back in town.

WIP Snippet!
A sneak peak at Woven, the fic I’m writing based on @hayesflint amazing art!
On a high cliff overlooking a roiling green sea, the crumbling Separatist watchtower sat like a soldier’s carcass. The moon it was placed upon was so small and so far removed from the rest of the galaxy it didn’t even have a name. What it did have was rain, and frigid cutting winds, and bone-rattling thunderclaps, and more rain. A lone figure stood like a ghost beneath what little cover the watchtower provided, half-hidden by the downpour. Water trickled through the seams of his mass-produced, Imperial issued rain-poncho, soaking into the stiff uniform beneath it. He did not shiver.
Golden brown eyes stared out at the white-capped waves churning in the storm. There was little need to watch for anything else; the only scant mention of this place had been so deeply buried in old Republic Clone Wars reports that it would’ve been impossible for anyone else to find. He’d erased it anyway, after the message was sent. The faint whine of a ship engine reached his ears through the cacophony. It passed over the tower and disappeared. Not five minutes later the Lasat the man had been waiting for stalked out of shadows. His ears flicked off water droplets bitterly.
“Ya sure know how to pick a meetin’ place, Kal,” he said, voice raised over the crashing of the ocean. Kallus stepped closer so they wouldn’t have to yell. He lowered his hood, the dark circles under his eyes stark in the cloudy overcast.
“I needed to be sure no one could follow me. Thank you for coming, Garazeb.”
“Your message made it seem like this was important. Why’d you only send it to me?”
“It’s… about something somewhat personal between us.” Zeb’s brows furrowed in confusion.
Kallus raised his arms out from underneath the drenched poncho to reveal a now cold yellow and black meteorite and his folded Bo-rifle. He held them out to Zeb.
“I need you to take these.”

Kalluzeb headcanon time
I HC that Kallus is not afraid to get dirty and Zeb is the more prissy one.
Zeb worked for the Royal family and could have been a palace guard. He probably just stood indoors all day and never really had to get dirty. He says he went down in the blast and there’s a chance he never even fought in the siege. He is repulsed by the idea of going into the sewers(but who wouldn’t be) and the idea of spiders and other bugs creep him out.
Meanwhile, we know Kallus fought in the siege and he was out there wrestling with his bare hands. He went on patrols on Onderon so he’s no stranger to trekking through a jungle(although the attack could have happened in a city).
Kallus is most happy with his elbows in the dirt, tending to his garden and getting messy. Zeb is happy to sit on the porch and watch with a glass of something cold and his favourite tunes playing. Oh and he has to call Kallus in to catch spiders of course.
