using my classics degree for good. i cannot wait for 3.0
my notes from my first watch through of "Amphororeus' Saga of Heroes" under the cut. please note that i did this at 8am with minimal double and triple checking of sources
Aglaea- Aglaea in mythology is the child of zeus and is one of the three Charities in Greek myth; according to Dionysiaca she is one of the "dancers of Orchomenus" who tend to Aphrodite. Helped Aphrodite in her attempt to weave better than Athena by holding and passing Aphrodite the yarn. She also acts as Aphrodite's messanger. Her drip marketing also mentioned her connection to romance so her being a stand in for Aphrodite feels like a easy call
Tribbie- hermes or hecate (likely a combination) she's a messenger like hermes, however the description of "the three-faced" is usually used in description of Hecate goddess of the crossroads
Anaxa- likely the athena parallel as said to have enough knowledge to refute faith and is capable of killing gods. this is in line with athena's domains of wisdom and the logical side of combat; eyepatch is similar to odin of norse mythology as he exchanged one of his eyes for all the knowledge in the world; Anax is the attic greek word for "tribal cheif, lord, or military leader"; there are also several notable figures who have the prefix anax- in their name Anaxandridas II (a king of sparta) and anaxagoras and anaxarchus (both philosphers)
Hyacine - name from hyacinthus, lover of apollo and where we get the name of hyacinths from; she also "severs dawn from dusk" which makes me feel more than confident in her being the apollo parallel
Mydei- ares parallel, lion symbolism is common with warriors in ancient greece; hercules wore the skin of a lion he killed. the rest of it is vibes based but look at him; could not find any strong name parallels immediately as both Medea and Midas do not have many war-like contributions; however medea is close enough to mydei in pronunciation. medea was the daughter of Aeetes and lover of Jason from the argonauts and granddaughter to the sun god Helios; fire motifs, could be connection to hephaestus but i'd need more before i make that call; japanese version uses Mydeimos which points to Deimos, the god of terror and twin brother of Phobos the god of fear, both of which are children of Ares and Aphrodite (thank you @/integraseras for connection)
Cipher- fleet-footed hunter and said to "make time stop" while i can't think of any deity that specifically can do that the fleet-footed hunter aspect along with her being feminine strongly implies to me an artemis parallel; "make time stop" is interesting because in some stories and accounts the gods could stop time to communicate with a single hero or person without others noticing their presence
Castorice- "daughter of the river styx" and other death motives makes her almost certainly Hades; this is likely unrelated but one of the twins of the Diocusi (gemini twins) is named Castor however they are the children of Zeus, however castor was born mortal and pollux was born immortal, eventually they made a deal in which they would spend half of the time with the gods and the other half in the underworld
Phainon- couldnt find one of the olympians that fight however the god Phaenon is the sky god of Cronus (the planet Saturn); name means "bright" or "shining"; this could also be our Zeus figure due to Phaenon being called "the star of Jove" (Jove being another name for Zeus in roman myth)
(following names were from the video description but no other info was given)
Hysilens- name possibly comes from the combination of the gods Silenus and Hysminai; silenus is the god of wine, drunkenness, and the forest while also the foster father of Dionysus. Hysminai is the personification of combat; likely stand in for Dionysus
Cerydra- name has some parallels to the hydra the lake monster of Lerna in the Argolid, cer- could possibly (very unlikely) come from cerberus; my money would be on them being the parallel for posideon; the hydra was also one of hercules 12 labors and the lake Lerna was said to be an enterence to the underworld, possibly connecting cerberus in there, as cerberus is the guard dog of the underworld
Two unnamed characters: also there Gods that haven't been explicitly shown: Hera, Hestia, Demeter and Hephaestus. I could see hoyo combining Hera and Hestia into a single character of marriage, hearth and home
Other notes:
the gods were said to have gold blood
Amphoreus from the greek vessel style of a container with a long neck and two handles used to store oil, wine, milk, or grain. Amphorae were sometimes used as grave markers or as containers for funeral offerings or human remains and Amphora was also used as a unit of measure
the titans in the trailer = titans in myth; the conflict that follows is basically the equivalent of the war in mythology between the olympians and the titans

You soar through the skies atop Starfyre, her gleaming silver scales reflecting the sunlight, with hints of pale blue and alabaster shimmering underneath. Starfyre’s powerful wings beat in rhythm with your heart, carrying you swiftly to the battlefield at Rook’s Rest. Below, the chaos of war unfolds, but your focus remains on the sky, where your twin brother and husband, King Aegon II, battles Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen Who Never Was.
The air is thick with the scent of blood and smoke. You can hear the clash of steel and the screams of men, but above all, you hear the roars of dragons. Starfyre lets out a fierce cry, a call to her brother and mate, Sunfyre, as you near the fray.
In the sky, you see them: Aegon on Sunfyre, his golden scales glowing fiercely, locked in combat with Rhaenys on Meleys, the Red Queen. Meleys clamps her jaws around Sunfyre’s neck, and your heart skips a beat. Without hesitation, you urge Starfyre forward.
"To Aegon, my love," you command, your voice steady despite the turmoil within.
Starfyre responds with a burst of speed, her silver form cutting through the air like a comet. You reach the battle just as Aegon lets out a cry of pain and fury.
"Y/N!" Aegon shouts, his voice strained. "Help me!"
You and Starfyre dive at Meleys, claws extended and jaws snapping. Starfyre's roar echoes through the sky as she rakes her talons across Meleys' crimson scales. Rhaenys turns her attention to you, her eyes blazing with fury.
"Y/N, you traitorous wretch!" she yells over the roar of the dragons. "You will fall today!"
Your only response is a determined glare as Starfyre breathes a stream of pale yellow fire at Meleys. The heat is intense, and the air sizzles with the clash of flames. Meleys releases Sunfyre, turning her wrath on you and Starfyre.
Aegon, though injured, maneuvers Sunfyre to attack from the other side. "Hold on, Y/N! For the throne, for our family!"
You nod, feeling the bond between you and your brother strengthen. Starfyre and Sunfyre, born of the same clutch, fight with a ferocity unmatched. However, Meleys is a formidable opponent, her jaws snapping dangerously close to you more than once.
Suddenly, Aemond and Vhagar join the battle. Vhagar's ancient form casts a massive shadow over the battlefield. Aemond circles above, waiting for the right moment to strike. The combined might of Sunfyre, Starfyre, and Vhagar seems overwhelming, but Rhaenys is undeterred.
"Burn them all, Meleys!" Rhaenys commands.
Meleys unleashes a torrent of dragonfire, and the world around you becomes a blaze of red and gold. You feel the searing heat as Starfyre is engulfed in flames, her scales sizzling. She cries out in pain, but you hold firm, determined to protect Aegon.
Aemond seizes the moment, Vhagar's massive jaws closing around Meleys. The Red Queen thrashes, but Vhagar's grip is unyielding. Meleys' death throes are violent, and in her desperation, she lashes out one final time, her flames mingling with those of Vhagar, Sunfyre, and Starfyre.
The sky is a maelstrom of fire and blood. You hear Aegon scream, a sound of both rage and agony, as Sunfyre crashes to the ground, one wing half-torn from his body. You reach out, but it is too late. You can only watch as your husband and his dragon fall in a blaze of fire.
"Aegon!" you scream, your voice raw with despair.
Starfyre, grievously injured, struggles to stay aloft. Her once gleaming silver scales are now scorched and bloodied. You hold on tightly as she begins to falter, the strength draining from her with each beat of her wings.
"Hold on, Starfyre," you whisper, your voice trembling. "Just a little longer."
But the effort is too great. With a final, mournful roar, Starfyre's wings buckle, and you begin to fall. The ground rushes up to meet you, and the world around you becomes a blur of smoke and flames. The sound of your descent is like thunder, a deafening crash that echoes through the battlefield.
As you fall, you think of Aegon, of your love and your shared dreams. You reach out, as if you could grasp him from the air. The last thing you see before darkness claims you is the shattered form of Sunfyre, and the knowledge that you fought together until the end.
Tumblr media
The ground trembles beneath the onrush of Criston Cole and his men, their armor clanking and weapons drawn. The sight that greets them is one of devastation and heartache. Smoke and dust fill the air, mingling with the acrid stench of burnt flesh and dragonfire.
Starfyre, despite her grievous wounds, has crawled over to Sunfyre. Her body, a gleaming silver now tarnished with blood and ash, curls protectively around her brother. Sunfyre, his golden form marred and broken, lies motionless beneath her. The two dragons, once the epitome of beauty and strength, now lay in a pitiable heap, their breaths shallow and labored.
Cole’s eyes scan the battlefield until they fall upon the twins. Aegon and Y/N lie side by side, their bodies bruised and bloodied. Aegon’s one side is horrifically burned, his armor melted and fused to his flesh, the pungent smell of charred meat filling the air. His ribs and hip are shattered, his breathing ragged and uneven. Beside him, Y/N is no better off, her body covered in bruises, blood trickling from her nose and mouth with each strained breath.
“Over here! Quickly!” Cole shouts, his voice urgent and commanding. “The King and Queen need immediate aid!”
The soldiers rush forward, their faces pale with fear and determination. As they reach the fallen royals, Aemond descends from the sky atop Vhagar, the massive dragon landing with a ground-shaking thud. Vhagar’s ancient eyes survey the scene with an almost sorrowful gaze, while Aemond dismounts swiftly, his usual cold demeanor shattered by the sight of his siblings.
“Aegon! Y/N!” Aemond cries, rushing to their side. He falls to his knees beside Aegon, his hands trembling as he reaches out to touch his brother’s charred form. “Brother, hold on. Help is here.”
Aegon’s eyes flutter open, pain and exhaustion etched deeply into his features. “Aemond…” he rasps, his voice barely a whisper. “Protect… her…”
Aemond nods, his eye glistening with unshed tears. “I will. I swear it.”
Y/N’s breaths come in shallow gasps, her eyes barely open, but she reaches out weakly towards Aegon. “Aegon…” she murmurs, her voice frail. “Together…”
Aegon’s hand, though shaking with pain, reaches out to grasp hers. “Always,” he breathes, the simple word carrying the weight of their bond.
Criston Cole watches, his expression grim but resolute. “We need to get them to the maesters. Now!”
The soldiers work quickly, lifting the twins with as much care as possible. Their bodies are fragile, and every movement elicits groans of pain. As they are carried away, Starfyre lets out a weak, mournful cry, her eyes following them until they are out of sight. She then curls tighter around Sunfyre, her protective instinct undiminished by her injuries.
Aemond stands, his gaze hardening as he looks at Cole. “Rhaenys and Meleys may be gone, but this war is far from over. We must regroup and prepare for what comes next.”
Cole nods, his face set in determination. “Aye, my Prince. We’ll see to the wounded and fortify our defenses. The realm needs its King and Queen alive.”
As they move to attend to the aftermath of the battle, Aemond casts one last look at the fallen dragons and his injured siblings. He vows silently that their sacrifice will not be in vain, and that the bloodshed at Rook’s Rest will be avenged.
Tumblr media
In the depths of unconsciousness, you relive your last night with Aegon. The memory is vivid, as if it were happening all over again. The firelight from the hearth bathed your chamber in a warm, flickering glow. Aegon's eyes, the same shade as yours, were filled with a mixture of determination and a tenderness reserved only for you.
That night, the world outside ceased to exist. The war, the politics, the looming battle at Rook’s Rest—all faded away in the sanctity of your shared moments. Aegon’s touch was fervent, his kisses desperate, as if he were trying to etch the memory of you into his soul. You responded with equal passion, your hands exploring the familiar planes of his body, every scar and contour telling a story of shared history and love.
“Aegon,” you whispered, your voice a mix of longing and love. “Promise me we’ll come back to this.”
His lips trailed from your neck to your ear, his breath hot and uneven. “I promise, Y/N. We’ll always find our way back to each other.”
Your bodies moved in perfect synchrony, each touch, each kiss, a silent vow of your unbreakable bond. The world might be at war, but in that moment, it was just the two of you, lost in each other, making love with a fervor that spoke of both desperation and eternal devotion.
The memory fades, and you are pulled back to the present by a wave of excruciating pain. Your body feels heavy and foreign, each breath a struggle. Slowly, you open your eyes, the bright light of the room blinding you for a moment. As your vision clears, you see your mother, Dowager Queen Alicent, sitting by your bedside, her face etched with worry.
"Mother?" you croak, your voice barely a whisper.
Alicent’s eyes widen in relief and she quickly leans forward, grasping your hand gently. "Y/N, thank the gods you’re awake."
You try to sit up, but the pain is too much. Every part of your body protests, and you fall back onto the pillows with a groan. Beside you, Aegon lies unconscious, his face pale and drawn, the sight of him sending a fresh wave of fear through you.
"Aegon…" you murmur, reaching out weakly towards him.
Alicent’s expression hardens slightly as she follows your gaze. "He is alive, but his injuries are severe," she says, her voice a mixture of relief and reproach. "You should never have gone after him, Y/N. You risked your life recklessly."
Her words sting, but you can see the fear and concern in her eyes. "I couldn’t let him fight alone," you reply, your voice strained. "He is my twin, my other half."
Alicent sighs, her grip on your hand tightening. "I understand your love, but you are the Queen. Your duty is to your people as well as to Aegon. If both of you were lost…" Her voice breaks slightly, and she takes a moment to compose herself. "The realm needs its King and Queen, Y/N. We cannot afford to lose either of you."
Tears well up in your eyes, partly from the pain and partly from the weight of her words. "I know, Mother. I know."
Alicent’s expression softens, and she brushes a strand of hair from your face. "Rest now. The maesters are doing everything they can. We will get through this, but you must be strong. For Aegon, for the realm, and for yourself."
You nod weakly, the exhaustion overwhelming you. As you close your eyes, you feel Alicent’s comforting presence beside you, her hand never leaving yours. The last thing you see before sleep claims you again is Aegon’s still form, and you silently vow to be there for him, just as he has always been there for you.
The room is dimly lit, the only light coming from the flickering candles casting shadows on the walls. You are barely awake, drifting in and out of consciousness for days now. The pain is a constant companion, a dull ache that ebbs and flows with every shallow breath. The maesters have done what they can, but their prognosis remains grim. Your fate, they say, is now in the hands of the gods.
Aemond enters quietly, his usual confident stride subdued by worry. He pauses at the foot of the bed, his gaze moving between you and Aegon. Orwyle, who left a few hours ago, had briefed him on your condition earlier.
“She suffered severe internal bleeding,” Orwyle had explained, his voice heavy with concern. “Her fate is uncertain. We’ve done all we can. Now, we must pray.”
Aemond steps closer, his face a mask of determination hiding his worry. He sits beside you, his presence a solid, reassuring anchor in the storm of your pain.
“Y/N,” he says softly, reaching out to take your hand. “Can you hear me?”
You manage a slight nod, your eyes fluttering open. “Aemond…” you whisper, your voice barely audible. “Our dragons… Starfyre and Sunfyre… how are they?”
Aemond’s jaw tightens, but he answers with as much calm as he can muster. “Both are grievously wounded but alive. Starfyre and Sunfyre are being tended to. Ser Criston ordered his men to feed them with the bodies of fallen soldiers until a steady source of cattle can be provided.”
A flicker of relief crosses your face. “Good… they need to be strong.”
Before Aemond can respond, Aegon stirs beside you, his face contorted in agony. He awakens with a gasp, his eyes wide with pain and fear. “Y/N… where is Y/N?” he croaks, his voice thick with desperation.
“I’m here, Aegon,” you whisper, mustering all your strength to squeeze his hand. “I’m right here.”
Aegon’s eyes lock onto yours, and for a moment, the pain seems to lessen. He clutches your hand tightly, his grip trembling. “Don’t leave me,” he pleads, his voice breaking.
“I won’t, ” you promise, forcing a weak smile.
Aemond watches the exchange, his heart heavy with emotion. He feels a surge of protectiveness, vowing silently to do whatever it takes to keep you both safe.
“I’ll get Orwyle,” Aemond says, standing up. “You need more care, both of you.”
He leaves the room swiftly, his mind racing with thoughts of how to ensure your recovery. As he walks through the corridors, he passes soldiers and servants, all bowing respectfully, their faces lined with worry. He finally reaches the maester’s chambers and bursts in.
“Orwyle, they need you. Now,” Aemond commands, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Orwyle nods, gathering his tools and potions quickly. “I will do everything in my power, Prince Aemond,” he assures, following him back to your chambers.
Upon their return, Orwyle immediately begins to tend to you and Aegon, checking wounds, administering potions, and murmuring prayers under his breath. Aemond stands by, his presence a silent promise of protection and support.
As you drift back into a fitful sleep, the last thing you feel is Aegon’s hand in yours, a small comfort in the midst of your suffering. Aemond watches over you both, his heart a mixture of hope and fear, determined that the gods will grant you the strength to survive this ordeal.

Frodo & PTSD: Healing
At the end of Frodo’s journey, he is left feeling isolated, alone, and without joy. It says in “The Grey Havens” that he withdrew from Shire life. When he becomes “ill” on the anniversary of being stabbed (by the Nazgul and Shelob), he hides it from Sam and says nothing. We know that his self-concept has been irreversibly changed. He set out from the Shire as a kind gentle-hobbit, with the idea of adventure being exciting and fun, only to be confronted with suffering, the reality of evil, and his own perceived failures.
In the end, he cannot conceive of a life outside of his trauma and how he has been changed by his journey. He decides to sail to Valinor. Now what is interesting is that while the fandom (at least recently) has interpreted this as Frodo going to find healing in Valinor since he could not in Middle Earth, Tolkien never says that he is going for the purpose of healing. Rather, you get the impression that he has given up on healing. That his wounds are too deep and his joy too far lost. Sailing does indeed mark an end to his suffering, but not necessarily because he has healed.
I want to interject a bit of historical context here. While Tolkien was writing the Lord of the Rings, post World War II, research on mental health was lightyears behind where it is today. The diagnosis of PTSD would not be added to the DSM until 1980, after wide study in the aftermath of the Vietnam War. In Tolkien’s time, it was called “battle fatigue” or “combat stress reaction”. Treatments ranged from electroshock therapy, to sedatives, to psychotherapy. The field of psychotherapy was a bit chaotic then, with the emergence of several new styles such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), still widely practiced today.
The problem with these treatments, including CBT, is that they do not address the actual cause of PTSD. As previously discussed, PTSD occurs when the body’s stress response is overwhelmed and becomes “stuck”. CBT aims to change our rational thoughts and ideas, which then change the resultant emotions. This is a “top-down” approach. People who have experienced trauma do not necessarily respond to this because symptoms don’t come from a thought or belief from our rational brain, they come from our subconscious brain being stuck in crisis mode. Therefore, a “bottom-up” approach works much better.
Currently, some of the most-recommended treatments for PTSD include DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), and neurofeedback therapy, all aiming to create a sense of physical sensation of safety, allow for traumatic memories to be processed appropriately, and to “unstick” our brains. A sense of community and mindfulness, fully inhabiting our bodies but not being alone in them, is essential to recovery.
So let’s compare Frodo to Eowyn. Eowyn also suffers a grievous blow from the Witch-King himself and is left afterwards with the same symptoms: despair, dark dreams, and she is cold and pale. The difference between the two, however, is that, “Her malady begins far back before this day,” as Aragon says. Eowyn, for a variety of reasons (that’s a whole other post if we’re going to discuss her trauma), rode out with the feeling that her only purpose was to die in battle. She says that she does not want healing, she only wishes to return to the battle and die. Her injury and the Black Shadow of the Nazgul are not a new experience for her, they do not change her self-conception. They only make her more determined.
Healing for Eowyn begins when Faramir takes the time to listen to her and validate her feelings. He does not tell her she is wrong, or attempt to change her belief. He sits with her, and eventually, he explains that he loves her for herself, fully separate from her trauma or depression and regardless of what emotions she is feeling. He enables her to see that she is more than her grief. He shows her a life where she is not alone and where she may feel happy again, and she allows herself feel that happiness rather than clinging to death. Her character evolution is almost an inverse of Frodo's in this way.
Now this is not at all a criticism of Sam (I love that hobbit to death!!) but Sam does not provide this same sense of community to Frodo. Sam loves Frodo, but his attention is divided between Frodo and Rosie (and the regular Shire goings-on). Sam struggles to understand why Frodo cannot enjoy the Shire as he once did, and he isn’t able to offer the same sort of validation. But I think Sam is the reason that Frodo stayed as long as he did, and the reason that Frodo was able to complete his quest. And I like to think that once Sam arrived in Valinor, he was reunited with a Frodo who, while not the hobbit he was before the Fellowship, has regained a sense of joy and togetherness.
If you want more information about any of the topics that I briefly touched on here, let me know! I’m always happy to yap about my interests :)

Hi, yes, hello! First of: love your work, hope I can become as good an artist as you are! Secondly (and the actual ask), do you have any specific sources you reference for the symbolism of things and historical wear/weapons/armor?
I saw your mention of Whose Middle Ages? in your latest ramble and got curious if you have any go-to's when it comes to this.
Thank you! :)
So I might be the worst person to be asked about period accurate clothing - I look at stuff and then try to replicate it from memory most of the time, so nothing is correct and periods get mixed together. However, I do have recommendations!! (sorry for a ramble, I'll put in under cut)
The type of medievalist art I'm mostly interested in is from Pre-Raphaelite era (1848->). There was an exhibition here in Finland mixing both true medieval, pre-raphaelite, and symbolism works together into the ultimate medievalist concoction that really had amazing inspiration for both symbolism and clothing. I own the book, which unfortunately is only available in Finnish and Norwegian
Tumblr media
2. Unfortunate I cannot find/remember the artists anymore, but over on bluesky there are really great fellow armor enthusiasts sharing links to their drives for reference pictures they have taken from museums etc - these threads pop-up from time to time to combat AI slop on other reference picture platforms (like pinterest).
3. For really good breakdowns on super super accurate armor and arms, look no further than a really great artist mudnblood . Another artist I will always find to be a master of medival armor (and many other things) is John Howe
4. cheesy, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has really great armor references, because you can rotate Henry in character screen and take pieces of armor on/off
5. I like to look at HEMA content -There are really great resources on youtube of historical warfare and combat, but these creators will also often make breakdown of their own armor and how they dress everything on, where you can get good understanding of how pieces work together.
6. Medievalist scholars! Another book I've found to be insanely interesting aside from Whose Middle Ages?, is "Handbook of Arthurian Romance : King Arthur's Court in Medieval European Literature" (Tether et al., 2017). I wish I had recommendation, but these two specifically go into masculinity, desire, and queer studies in a way that brings me joy (and other great topics as well)
Lastly, thank you for the amazing ask!

pairing: Aemond Targaryen x Reader
summary: I couldn't help myself and had to do a part ii from Aemond's perspective of his valiant rescue of the reader (part i)
-----------------------------⚔️----------------------------------
Aemond was not a man to be easily distracted. Yet more & more these days he had found himself to be just that. Unable to break this curse that was upon him.
The second prince growled and threw his sword away across the training yard. Frustrated at his competition, a word he used very loosely in this scenario, as even their inept fighting could not keep his focus. Some lowly page scurried out to pick up his discarded weapon, seeming lost on what to do with it as the prince stalked off. Ignoring all of them as his sole focus again came back to [Y/N] with no further distraction.
When she first came here, Aemond had paid her no mind. One of his sister’s new girls. Noble. Fine figure. Indistinguishable from the lot. He had not thought to make an impression on her at first as she had made no impression on him. Yet the longer she stayed, attached to his family but still not one of them, he felt his eye drifting over to her.
He could not explain it. Perhaps it was because she paid attention to him. So, few people did these days. His mother clumsily moving the pieces to make Aegon king. Aegon being a louse and all other thoughts consumed with himself. His sister locked in her own head most of the time. The rest were too afraid of him or his ire to even bother with him, apart from training and the very few who sought his advice. And now she had taken that away from him too. Ruined one of his few pleasant past times of training with a sword with her insistent presence in his mind.
Aemond would be angry with her, if she knew. But he wouldn’t tell her. Though bold & fierce in combat, he couldn’t stomach the thought of losing what little standing he had socially by admitting he might feel something for her. He couldn’t risk people laughing at him. Couldn’t risk having her laugh at him.
So, he kept it inside. Balling it up in his chest like the rest of his feelings, to sit there and grow cold or be released blinding hot when a more opportune time was afforded to him.
His paces slowed as he came towards the western wing of the castle and the garden house. Keeping up with his sister and her routine, if for nothing else than to give Helaena company, Aemond knew that she, their mother, and [Y/N] would be playing with flowers that afternoon. He could not think of a duller way to spend an afternoon. So he would not be joining them for a brief appearance under the guise of seeing his family but in reality of catching a glimpse of [Y/N].
He rounded the corner to try and catch her glimpse now instead. Just one and he would be alright for the day. Just one, and he could continue pretending that he didn’t think of her constantly; until tomorrow when he needed another glance again. This curse an addiction on his soul.
From the shadows Aemond peaked out in hopes of not being noticed. His eye widened when he saw her. Seeing his brother cornered [Y/N] as she struggled to get away from him. That malicious laugh of Aegon’s that haunted his nightmares echoing off the glass on the walls.
When his brother’s hand bashed against [Y/N]’s face on accident, Aemond sprung into action before even realizing it. Grabbing his brother by the collar and throwing him away like the trash he was behaving as.
“What the hells Aemond?!” Aegon spat at him. Like he was scolding his little brother.
Aemond just scoffed with a sneer. What right did he have to scold him when he was behaving this way? What right did he have to tell anyone anything when he was nothing but wasted potential?
“This is how you chose to spend your time, brother.” He knew that Aegon could only half understand him. Drunk and waning off their mother tongue. He was a disgrace to the name Targaryen. “Did not our mother already have this conversation with you? About a future king’s place being on a throne for his subjects, instead of sticking his ‘sword’ wherever he pleases?” Aegon hissed back at him when he kicked a little at his shoe. Aemond doesn’t want to admit how good it felt to have him literally under heel, but Gods did it feel good. “Get Out, Aegon. Before I tell her and everyone else about what just happened.”
The elder looked fit to bite him, but instead, like always, Aegon left in a huff and went to take his rage out on others. He made sure not to take his eye off him as he left. “Are you alright?”
“Yes. As well as can be expected.”
Aemond then turned to look at [Y/N] as she righted herself. He felt disgusted at the way his brother carried on, but more disgusted at himself for how her disheveled appearance affected him. “Thank you…for helping me…”
“Hmm..it was nothing.” Truly. It wasn’t. With how much taller he was than Aegon now it took very little to pull him off his feet. The hardest part was how much of a deadweight he became when he was drinking.
“I should…talk to her grace….”
“No. Don’t do that.” Aemond didn’t mean to snap at her, but the thought of her telling his mother led him to bite as well. He knew if she talked to their mother, ‘Noble Queen Alicent’ would just send [Y/N] away. Aemond couldn’t bear that. He couldn’t sacrifice another thing for the sake of Aegon’s worthless honor and claim to the throne. “Do not say anything. Just leave it be.”
“But if Aegon tells—“He isn’t going to tell anyone.” He interjected. “He wouldn’t want people to know that he was beaten by a girl and his little brother.” His better brother, more like.
[Y/N] seemed unsure of herself. Understandably. If the situations were reversed, he would assume that the other was doing it to protect their side from scrutiny, instead of protecting him. Only she didn’t know how much he hated his brother and family sometimes. Or how much he wanted to protect her. “You would really stand against your brother on this?”
She looked up at him with those eyes. Those gorgeous eyes. Aemond had often wished for his second eye back, but in this moment he only wished for it back so he could look upon her face in full spectrum. But even with his one eye he could see how beautiful she was, even with the blood beaded up on her lip. He felt his own begin to boil. He was going to kill Aegon one of these days.
“I’ve stood against my brother for less important things.” Without thinking, which was rare for him, Aemond removed his glove and brushed the ruby specks on his lower lip away. Instinct to make that beautiful face anew. He realized too late what he was doing, but also that she didn’t shy away or look scared. She looked…hopeful. But maybe that was his own maginations projecting into her eyes. “You should get cleaned up. Before anyone sees you.”
The hopeful look in her eyes vanished (or maybe it was never there) as she realized she was supposed to meet with his mother & sister shortly. “But…if I change, I’ll be late. Her grace cannot abide lateness.”
“I’ll take care of it.” Aemond offered immediately. Surely, he could distract his mother for a meager 10 minutes to buy her time. And Helaena had no sense for time at all. “Go.”
[Y/N] looked at him fervently, like she wanted to say something but couldn’t, before she slipped past him and headed for the door. “Aemond,” she called once she reached it, turning back towards him in a way that made his nails bite in his hand to keep still, “I…thank you again.” That look in her eye. That hitch in her breath as she paused. He wasn’t imagining it, was he? Then she was gone.
The prince took a deep breath to calm himself and lifted his hand to inspect it. Crescents gnawed into the flesh, but it would heal. His eye then flickered to his thumb. Still red with her rubies. He stared at it for a long time before he lifted the digit to his mouth and tasted it. Gods how he was disgusted himself, but oh why did everything about her have to be so sweet?
Hands clean, though not his mind, Aemond put his glove back on and went to cut his mother off at her pass for a distraction. Again, surely he could manage 10 minutes of conversation with her to buy [Y/N] time. 8….at least….

The Iliou Katabasein As recorded by Lykaon of Polias Iroikos, historian and singer of truth, who wrote in the reign of High Seer Amynthor and under the auspices of the Temple of Loyalty, where Perselena is honored as Defender of Heroes.
I. THE BEGINNING OF STRIFE O Muse, voice of remembrance, sing of Ilium’s fall, of bright-helmed men and loyal women, of the wrath that sparked a war and the love that drowned it.
Sing of Eris, she who is born in the silence after peace. She who was unbidden to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. Enraged, she cast among the gods a golden apple—marked, simply: To the Fairest.
Queen Hera claimed it by right of sovereignty. Bright-eyed Athena, for her wisdom. Golden Aphrodite, for her unmatched beauty.
None would yield. So they turned to Paris Alexandros, son of Priam, herdsman of Ida, mortal prince and judge of goddesses. They came veiled in majesty, and each tempted him:
Hera with dominion over lands,
Athena with victory in all war,
Aphrodite with the love of Helen, fairest of mortal women.
And so Paris gave the apple to Love.
II. OF HELEN AND THE BROTHERS OF SPARTA Helen, daughter of Leda and Zeus, had once been kidnapped by Theseus, but was saved by her brothers Castor and Polydeuces, with aid from the goddess Perselena. She had stayed with Penelope and the goddess in Iroikos, and there learned truth and diplomacy.
Later, in the halls of Sparta, she married Menelaus, son of Atreus. But when Paris came with words of longing and a god-fired arrow in her heart, she left—willingly, yet bound by enchantment.
Before departing, she left Menelaus a letter: I am not myself. The goddess has promised me to another. I go because I must, not because I forget you. And so she sailed to Troy.
III. THE OATHS OF HEROES Long before, Odysseus of Ithaca had feared bloodshed over Helen. Advised by his sister-in-bond, Perselena, he’d proposed the Oath of Tyndareus: that all suitors would defend Helen’s chosen husband. And so they came.
Agamemnon of Mycenae, high king. Odysseus, born of Anticlea the hunter and Laertes, son of Zeus and Hermes’ line. Nestor of Pylos, oldest in counsel. Ajax the Great, boulder-shouldered. Diomedes of Argos, lion-hearted. And finally, Achilles, youngest and brightest, born of Thetis and Peleus.
IV. THE FINDING OF ACHILLES Thetis, fearing his death, hid Achilles on Skyros, dressed as a maiden. Odysseus, ever cunning, came with gifts—swords among jewels, tales of war and heroism, dancers, and riddles. Still, he failed to catch Achilles unawares.
In the end, it was Patroclus who called him.
Achilles, I go. I leave for Troy.
Achilles revealed himself and embraced his fate. He and Patroclus wed beneath an olive tree. Perselena, favorite cousin and officiant, blessed their bond with words of loyalty and resilience. The wedding was small, but the fates themselves bore witness.
V. THE DECADE OF BLOOD O Muse, veil thy face. Speak now of siege and slaughter.
The Greeks landed on Trojan shores. For ten years, they fought. No quarter was given, yet rules were kept: no child under ten was killed. Each year, the kings met to exchange prisoners, to count the fallen, to bury their dead with rites.
Achilles was terrible as fire. Patroclus, no less brave, led men as a true general. Odysseus, wise in tongue and steel, plotted with Athena and Perselena. Diomedes raged with divine madness, and Aeneas of Troy stood against him with the aid of his mother Aphrodite.
And above them all stood Hector, breaker of men.
VI. THE DEATHS THAT BROKE THE EARTH Patroclus died in single combat against Hector, fighting in his own armor, his name unmasked. The Trojans mourned the killing, for he had spared many.
Achilles saw his body borne back and did not weep—he howled. He found Hector, broke both his arms, sealed him in a bronze coffin, and left it before Troy’s gates.
Hector died of suffocation. Only later was the coffin opened and the funeral held.
Then came the gods’ judgment. Apollo, seeing Hector unavenged, guided Paris’s hand. An arrow flew—not even aimed—and struck Achilles in his heel. The river Styx knew him no longer.
VII. THE HORSE AND THE FALL Odysseus, struck by grief, devised the end.
A great wooden horse, left as an offering. Within, the finest warriors: Odysseus, Menelaus, Ajax, Diomedes.
At night, they opened Troy’s gates.
Helen, released from enchantment at the moment Paris fired the fatal arrow, saw clearly. She turned her blade against the man who'd torn her from herself. Paris died bleeding at her feet.
VIII. THE MERCIES OF GODS In the burning city, Andromache and Astyanax were found by bloodied Greeks. She cried out not to Aphrodite or Apollo but to Perselena—goddess of loyalty, of protection.
In answer, the goddess turned them into white albatrosses, and they flew beyond the flames.
IX. THE HOMEWARD TIDE Odysseus set sail. Yet storms and trials caught him in the Sea of Monsters. He did not anger Poseidon—for he never named himself to Polyphemus—but he was trapped by Calypso.
Three years passed in her spell. Then it broke. He carved a boat, found his crew, and sailed home.
Penelope still waited, with axe and loom and hope. He returned. He saw the olive-wood bed Perselena had gifted them. He wept. He killed the suitors. He was home.
X. EPILOGUE OF THE GODS Ares and Perselena stood on opposite sides of war—he with Troy for Aphrodite’s sake, she with Greece for loyalty’s sake. He asked once, quietly: Do you need me?
She shook her head. And so they fought, husband and wife, across fields soaked in honor and ash.
And so fell Troy, and so rose the age of men.
O Muse, remember them. The brave. The lost. The loyal. For their names still live where glory does not fade.

okay, wait, so I’ve been trying to learn and understand the old Zelda games, the NES loz and adventure of link, which I thought had the same characters, like the same Zelda and link in both games, and online I saw some people claiming that nes loz and aol link were the same link (I googled which links are the same- probably dumb, I know.) and I did read the manual for loz and aol, so my understanding (and what I thought was correct.) was that after the events of nes loz Zelda gets put into a deep sleep from a spell or whatever and the kingdom goes into ruin (her father told her things about the triforce like where it’s hidden, i believe- could be wrong, anyways her brother gets processed by a magician or whatever and Zelda wouldn’t tell him where the triforce was so he put her into a deep sleep) and around link’s birthday, link gets a triforce symbol on the back of his hand and so link meets impa is told what happened to Zelda and that he has to go to all temples and put crystals in the stone statues in all of them and then he can save Zelda and he does, and I thought that was the end of that, day saved once again, but then I hear and read online that Zelda 1 in loz and Zelda in aol is not the same Zelda, Zelda in aol gets put into a deep sleep from a sleeping spell and her brother who’s king is sad and then says that every girl born into the royal family will be named Zelda from then on (or something), and then apparently (if I’m understanding this correctly which there a very high chance I’m not), the events of NES loz happens???? (Why do I feel like I got that wrong…) But like, I’m so incredibly confused, I don’t understand at all… Maybe I’m just overthinking things and it’s actually quite simple actually, but idk I don’t understand?? Also sorry if you don’t know (the answer) and I just sent this to you, I just had to rant about how confused I was and didn’t know where to (also sorry if this little message at the end of this was rude)
oh wait I was trying to read more about this so I can better understand and i understand it slightly more kinda, but I also forgot to mention (it slipped my mind for some reason and maybe that’s why I was confused), online it’s said “(aol) Several years after the events of the (NES) the legend of Zelda”, it’s still kinda confusing but sorry for bothering you about this when I think it’s me who’s confused and that it’s probably not confusing, like I kinda sort of feel less confused about it (but still slightly confused). I think maybe i should have thought more before sending in that ask, sorry about that!
prefacing this answer with the disclaimer that I haven't actually played zelda II. what i HAVE done is read the promotional strategy guide/manga combo by daisuke shigoto that to my knowledge was never officially translated into english and came out LONG before the timeline & reincarnation lore was ever canonized and was mostly dedicated to teaching children how to get through the near-impossible combat in that awful fucking game. all of my knowledge about the plot of zelda II and its relationship to NES zelda comes from this specific book. so. do with that what you will
that being said as far as i know there's 1 link and 2 zeldas involved in these 2 games. after the events of NES zelda, in which link rescues the first zelda (referred to from here on out as zelda A) from ganon, he fucks off for a while having done his duty. then the triforce appears on the back of his hand, kickstarting a new adventure in which he rescues a DIFFERENT princess zelda (zelda B.) Zelda B is the great-great-great-etc. aunt of zelda A, having been cursed to sleep in a tomb for hundreds of years for unimportant reasons, and, in the continuity of these two games, is the origin of the royal family's princess-naming tradition, i.e. 'the legend of zelda.' Link's hand-triforce ends up being the key to her tomb and things progress from there. so tldr the events of zelda II DO take place after nes zelda, but the princess in zelda II is NOT the same as the princess in NES zelda, she's an ancient relation who was preserved in sleep for a few hundred years. so essentially link has abandoned his original zelda in favor of this new dead girl he found in a literal tomb. lmfao
