WIP Tag Game
Thank you so much for tagging me @zepskies🖤
Rules: Post the last sentence you wrote (fanfic/ original/ anything) and tag as many people as there are words in the sentence.
This is from Chapter 6 of Bruised Fruit, which I'm hoping will be posted in the next 2 weeks or so.
But it had been his father’s, and he hoped, perhaps foolishly, its presence would impart some of his wisdom from beyond.

Anyways given that Atsushi has to leave for work while Akutagawa is still asleep, Atsushi paying extra attention to leave as many sweet post-it around the house as he can and preparing Akutagawa lunch to find and going back to kiss him goodbye before leaving because he knows just how triggering it is for Akutagawa to wake up and find that the people he loves have left him and he's determined to let him know how much he's loved and cared for.

i think it was @e-b-reads who most recently (though not, at this point, that recently) expressed intrigue at seeing commas in my tags…? anyway at the time i thought, 'i could swear i did a writeup abt that at some point, i'll hunt that down and reblog it when i get a chance!' and then, of course, never did hunt it down. /o\
anyway! the no-longer-secret of my tag commas is that they are not actually commas, but rather single quotation marks: specifically, the catchily-named 'single low-9 quotation mark' (html entity ‚), which on mac is option+shift+0; on mobile i've set up a keyboard shortcut (mine is two consecutive semicolons <;;>, because that struck me as a sequence that was unlikely otherwise to arise in the ordinary course of things, but naturally yours could be anything you like!) that transforms into the Character In Question.
(i should also indicate that this was not an invention of my own pure brain, but rather brought to me—and thence to you—by the inimitable @unopenablebox, whose cleverness and meticulousness are legend.)

Decrypting the fragmented messages from Martyn‘s PiratesSMP finale (I‘m back with lore brainrot yay!)
———
In his stream there‘s 6 messages he gets with only parts revealed. The rest looks like this with the strange symbols always changing.
Tumblr media
(example)
So here’s all the timestamps for the messages & what I’ve been able to get from them. I can‘t ensure they are correct. (The text in italics is stuff that I‘m still unsure about & the rows of 5s are the words I haven‘t been able to decrypt. I‘ll explain why that is below.)
- - 1:15:21 - -
Martyn!?
- - 1:38:48 - -
That has to be you? What took you so long to get out here?
- - 1:46:38 - - (message confirmed by martyn)
There isn‘t much time left! You‘ll be alright so long as you hurry.
- - 1:47:43 - -
C.H.E.S.T have taken an invention/infection and tweaked it. The world got locked in. Iris 5555 failsafe 555 di5 t5e5 5i555.
Edit: You could get locked in. is another solution I found. I think this might fit better.
- - 1:59:47 - -
The portal is close. We can‘t risk them seeing it. 55 5555 a distraction so you can slip away.
- - 2:13:05 - -
Be swift, keep calm & remember your training. Ill only be able to keep it open n for a few more minutes then I‘d have to quarantine this world.
———
I‘ll try my best to explain how I got to these results now (I hope this explanation makes sense to someone lol)
Firstly I looked at all these messages, screen recorded them and then did some research on how to even make them look like this. I found a tutorial and during this video I noticed that not every fragmented letters looks the same. They are based on the width of the original text. An i is a very slim letter so the fragmented (or as it is apparently called, obfuscated) text would be slim as well. The opposite goes for a wide letter like w and d which will result in a wide fragmented character.
With this info and the example message Martyn revealed I was able to test and confirm this. Every fragmented symbol has a set width, reaching from 1 to 5 pixels. The fragmented characters constantly change, but they always stay the same size. So all I had to do now was skip through my recordings of the messages and find frames where the I can count the pixels of every missing character and write the number down. It took very long and I had to check several times because I kept making mistakes and miscounting. But I got these results:
- Message 2: 5553 has 35 55 you! 5553 3554 you 55 2555 to 553 553 here?
- Message 4: C.H.E.S.T 5555 2545n 55 155e53155 555 3w5545d 131 555 5o525 553 25c455 151 3515 5555 failsafe 555 di5 35e5 515551
- Message 5: 555 555352 15 52o551 55 55523 r154 t555 555155 131 55 5555 5 51535a53155 55 555 555 5l15 away.
- Message 6: 55 s51431 k555 5525 5 55555555 55u5 355151551 3ll 5525 55 5525 35 4555 i3 5555 n 455 5 few 5555 min5355 5he5 325 5555 35 quarantine 3515 55525111
(didn’t do 1 & 3 because 1 was kinda obvious and 3 was already revealed. )
Now I know the amount of missing characters & how many pixels wide they are. In the minecraft text font almost all characters are five pixels wide, as you see above. But there are a few outliers:
4 pixels: lowercase k & f
3 pixels: lowercase t and uppercase i
2 pixels: lowercase L and apostrophes (there is also a 1 pixel apostrophe but it doesn‘t seem like it‘s used here)
1 pixel: lower i as well as dots, exclamation marks and commas
With this I was able to read some of the missing letters. The rest was guessing. Or I guess using wordle solvers and other websites to find fitting words. That’s how I got to the results above.
———
Additional notes on the messages:
— I don‘t know if the word in message 4 for is invention or infection. I think both would work. Infection could mean some kind of virus?
— Iris is the only word I could find that would fit with a capital i (and make sense in the context of pirates) but I haven‘t been able to form a logical sentence with it. I‘m assuming it is a capital letter because it‘s a new sentence. But it could technically be a t. (if anyone has ideas on this pls tell me..)
— Don‘t know what the missing words in message 5 are. I don‘t think they would change the meaning greatly though. (make doesn‘t work bc k is 4 pixels)
— The italics words in message 6 I‘m still a bit unsure about. There is some other word groups that could fit, but none of them made much sense in the whole sentence. I do think it’s possible that I‘m wrong there.
— Edit, bc I forgot to add this. But I don‘t know why there is a singular n in message 6. It is either a strange way to shorten and which would not match the rest of the writing style at all or it is a typo which I don‘t think is that unlikely tbh. I think the way the message would have to be written (with commands I assume) would make it easy to make a mistake there, so maybe it is just the n from open.
— Edit 2: Missing part in message 5 might be "We need a distraction …" (suggestion from @.ilexdiapason)
———
I am honestly very surprised that I got this far. Not what I was expecting when I started this. Obviously these messages weren‘t intended to be decrypted like his — which is why I don‘t think I will ever figure out the full messages — but I wanted to try anyway. Martyn has said he‘ll reveal them at some point so I guess I‘ll find out how correct I am. I definitely had my fun with this, also big thanks to the two people (once and percival) in Martyns discord that were replying to my messages while I was doing this lol <3

day 21: Anonymous Sex, Hair Pulling, Masturbation
Tumblr media
𝐓𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲
| PAIRING(s): Javi G. x masseuse staff | RATING: explicit material | 18+ | WORD COUNT: 1.1k | CONTENT: sensual massage, crunchy woo woo energy exchanges, bad Spanish translations, anonymous sex acts, sex furniture (?), cock milking massage table vibes | SYNOPSIS: Javi gets the attention he deserves from six strangers.
Tumblr media
It was advertised in the unlisted services as the “Twelve Hand Symphony.” Javi had been coming to this establishment for a long time to keep his mental clarity and physical agility in fine tune. Of course he was privy to and proffered its other offerings, but he’d never taken them up on it. Not until now.
The anonymous aspect of it was what made him finally ask to book it for himself. Glory holes and the like felt a bit seedy, and he’d always preferred the more sensuous side of things. This place offered a bit of everything – for those whose bank accounts had enough commas, anyway.
It was discreet and clean and regulated. There wasn’t anyone there against their will or under dire circumstances. There was never any fun in an unwilling partner for Javi, and his stomach turns at some of the conversations he’s heard in passing amongst business partners, family, and every other man rich and powerful enough to get away with such things.
He shakes his head. He doesn’t want to think about that, not while he’s already disrobed and is supposed to be finding a comfortable position face down on the table. It was a curious design – certainly ergonomic – and he was pleased to find that despite its awkward configuration it was actually very comfortable. It almost felt like getting onto a motorbike at first with its designated arm and leg rests, but the final position was like being on all fours while fully supported.
Javi’s head settled into the hollow headrest. The curved support under his hips lifted them up, presenting his backside fully to the warm room. His soft but sizable cock dangled out from the circular hole crafted for this exact situation. It was more sex furniture than massage table, but he relaxed into its elegant, precise design so quickly he could’ve easily fallen asleep if the room were darker.
A soft tap at the door and the sound of it creaking open. “Mr. Gutierrez? Are you ready for your service to begin?”
Her voice was light but confident. He liked that. He wondered if anyone else was going to talk. He’d marked ANY under who he preferred to render his service. It sent a thrill through him wondering if he’d be able to tell a man’s hands from a woman’s as it worked his body.
“Yes, I’m ready, mi amor,” he replied, eager and curious. “And, please, call me Javi.”
“Wonderful, Javi.”
The soft padding of feet. The weighty presence of others entering and occupying the room with him.
“We’re all very eager to get started. Please let us know if there’s any discomfort while we work.”
“Claro que si (of course),” he affirmed.
The first two sets of hands applied warm oil to his arms and ran smooth strokes against his major muscle groups. Each masseuse bent his arm and laid it against their torso, working his hand against their lower chest. Javi spread his fingers, an experimental touch in this new experience, and only felt one pair of breasts. His cock twitched at the discovery of mixed company working on him.
Another bit of gentle pressure applied to his scalp. Another oiling his back. One of each of his legs. The six sets of hands on him would’ve been overstimulating if they hadn’t all been in such harmony. No one practitioner applying too firm a pressure or deep a touch. His body felt like it was melting onto the table within the first 10 minutes.
“We’re going to begin the next portion of the massage. Again, let us know if there’s any discomfort.”
He could only groan in assent. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt this dazed and loose. There was something intoxicating about the gentle, attentive regard of numerous human beings all focusing their energies into him. It felt as though he was absorbing all their uplifting, peaceful energies through touch alone.
The first slip of an oiled hand to his inner thigh almost made him startle at the potent juxtaposition. His arousal came flooding, dam walls crumbling and giving away entirely. Two sets of hands now worked along his inner thigh, making no effort to avoid brushing against his balls and cock. The pitched moan that left his chest was unfamiliar to his own ears.
“You have such a gorgeous energy, Javi. It’s so beautiful.”
His hand darted quickly to the waist of the speaker. Soft, supple skin met his greedy touch. The curvature of it felt like a woman. He gripped harder, something to anchor himself to. He began to mindlessly squirm, his body begging for whatever was next. He hadn’t been mindful that he was growing more impatient, but his body was in no state to wait for his mind to catch up.
Firm pressure against the knots in his shoulder. The pair of hands on either side of him that gently spread his ass apart to let oil drip down down down. When a fingertip grasp gently cinched around his cockhead, Javi whined loud and overwrought. The fingertips spread the oil that dripped down until his entire cock was covered in the slick liquid.
His hips began to writhe in sync with the hand stroking his cock and the two hands spreading him open and gliding firm pressure against his puckering hole. It felt as though the hands working over him had multiplied to cover every inch of his body. Everything moved of its own accord, all cognizant presence now filtered through a euphoric trance.
“A few of us would like to use our mouths. Is that okay, Javi?”
“Sí, quiero que me hagas tuyo (Yes, I want you to make me yours),” he gasped.
A warm, wet mouth closed around his cock, and that combined with the hand cupping and tugging his balls sent him right up to the edge. When the pair of hands on his ass spread him apart to let a flittering tongue press firmly against his hole, Javi was gone. He panted as he spilled into the stranger’s mouth and grinded into the tongue massaging him.
After he’d emptied every last drop, the hands and mouths in the room caressed and kneaded his pliant body until he was nearly drifting off. A hot towel wiping away the excess oils roused him again. All sets of hands laid against his body once more, and the soft, confident voice from before was next to his ear again.
“Thank you for letting us have this experience with you. We appreciate the energy you brought here today to share with us, and we hope our energies have found a home in you as well."
“Gracias por todo (Thank you for everything),” he whispered.
“Of course, Javi. We hope to see you again soon.”
He almost laughed at the idea that there was any doubt he’d be back.

So. If anyone has requests for reader (or Tav/Durge) x BG3 characters then I’m always open for ideas and prompts with vague reader figures or more specific oc’s or canon characters! I don’t ask for anything except maybe you to reblog my writing and also to give me validation and be my friend! (Please be my friend.)
I’ll write literally anything BG3 related tbh I just love this fandom :)
I’m well over 21 and love writing smut and kink and adult themes so throw me all your adult ideas! If you don’t wanna send even an anon ask then my discord is ‘aster.pollux’ without the inverted commas and you can ping me there. I won’t write for minors and some topics are off limits for me but not many.
Also very much down for roleplaying this kind of thing if anyone’s up for that; my Carrd for RP is a WIP but I can give you deets if you’re wanting to roleplay 🙈
(And no, I don’t expect payment or trades but it’s always nice if we can just stay in touch!)

Assentio Mentium: Chapter 21
Haters said it could never happen. let it be known that sometimes a fic can go on hiatus for 2 years and be brought back to life. I pray the same for some of my faves!
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/33608452/chapters/135824869
Teaser:
“Careful Cassian,” Azriel raised his glass, “Gwyn might just steal Nesta right out from under you.”
“Thank God I got to her first,” Cassian pressed a kiss to the top of his fiancé’s head. “I couldn’t possibly compete.”
“Engaged is not married.” Gwyn sing-songed. “I’ve got some time yet.”
“Put a ring on her finger right now,” Cassian said to Azriel.
Nesta opened her mouth to reply, only to be cut off by the distinct sound of Brittney Spears’ voice proclaiming a man toxic.
“Don’t you have a life, Eris?” The custom ring tone was, perhaps, a bit petty, but so was his insistence on calling her past 8pm.
“Obviously not, and don’t pretend that you do either.” Nesta normally would have laughed at the quip. Perhaps commiserated with him before getting into whatever oxford comma in a contract he wanted to squabble over. For some reason, sitting here, with her friends and her fiancé … it didn’t seem quite so funny.

[0:02] Oscar Isaac: Woof woof!
(Garrett Hedlund giggling)
[0:03] Oscar: Are we trained animals?
[0:05] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: Triple Frontier)

[0:07] (On-Screen Text: Charlie Hunnam)

[0:10] Charlie: Hello SensCritique!
[0:11] Garrett and Oscar: Hello SensCritique!
[0:13] Ben: Bonjour SensCritique.
[0:14] That's French.
[0:15] Charlie: There you go! Wha-cha-cha!
[0:18] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: CAN YOU SUMMARIZE THE FILM?)
[0:20] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: IN ONE SENTENCE)
[0:22] Oscar: See, the thing is one sentence can be veeeeery long...
[0:24] Garrett: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[0:25] Oscar: So you can put commas!
[0:26] Garrett: Just commas.
[0:27] Ben: A group of ex-Special Forces soldiers...
[0:30] Oscar: come together to... carry out a heist in South America against a narcos traficante.
[0:39] Ben: Turns out, it wasn't that hard.
Charlie: Right?
[0:40] (Ben and Charlie laugh)
[0:41] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH THE PROJECT?)
[0:45] Ben: It was a combination of genres: it was strong, compelling, pure action heist story, but so was also a morality tale, and sort of-kinda a parable about military intervention.
[0:57] Charlie: Between the cast and the script, and me being excited for J.C. as a filmmaker, it was a no brainer for me. He was looking at a friend of mine, Garrett Hedlund.
[1:04] Garrett: And he had no idea about that, and got really excited about that. And then I got excited about that. And then Oscar called and said -
[1:10] Oscar: Got excited too.
[1:11] (Garrett laughs)
[1:12] Garrett: And he got excited too!
[1:13] Oscar: And then you guys said that -
[1:15] Garrett: And then I got excited because he was excited and you know -
[1:19] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FILM?)
[1:21] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: WITH YOUR CO-STAR/NEIGHBOR)
[1:22] Garrett and Oscar: Inside Llewyn Davis!
[1:23] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: (they both play/star in it))
[1:24] (Garrett and Oscar are in a giggling fit)
[1:27] Charlie: I like The Town a lot, there was Argo, Gone Baby Gone. You know...
[1:31] Ben: There we go.
[1:32] Charlie: Really really really...
[1:33] Ben: Oh wow.
Charlie: Spectacular stuff!
[1:34] Oscar: He's an iconic guy.
[1:36] Garrett: And he's says that! He's got that! He's Llewyn!
[1:38] Oscar: Yeah, yeah.
[1:39] Garrett: And that's iconic.
[1:40] Ben: And I like Charlie as a person.
[1:42] Charlie: Yeah (and then laughs)
[1:43] Ben: So... Hard to pick a favorite!
[1:45] (Charlie laughs and then Ben laughs after)
[1:47] Charlie: I'm not gonna help ya. Come on!
[1:49] (Ben leans towards the camera and continues laughing)
[1:50] Charlie: We're all waiting!
[1:52] Ben: I would say...
[1:54] (Take a shot of water every time Ben and Charlie laugh LOL)
[1:55] Ben: Did I tell you I watched The [Lost] City of Z.
[1:57] Charlie: Oh no you didn't!
[1:58] Ben: Yes, it was quite good! After I haven't seen it initially, and then when I got to know him - I've seen Sons of Anarchy, it's great. That's the thing everybody knows! And I've seen the King Arthur movie too! He's a first class actor.
[2:09] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: WHAT IS YOUR NEXT PROJECT?)
[2:11] (Translating On-Screen Text to English: WE WANT THE EXCLUSIVE)
[2:12] Ben: Wow, that's a tall order.
[2:13] Charlie: (chuckles) Yes, it is!
[2:15[ (Ben chuckles)
Charlie: You don't ask for much, do ya?
[2:16] Garrett: Ed Harris did the adaptation of a book called The Ploughman with myself and Robert Duvall. It's a two-hander, like a 70s deputy outlaw kind of thing.
[2:26] Charlie: I just did a thing - a movie with Justin Kurzel. The next thing that comes out is a film about Ned Kelly. This is the first time on camera that I'm talking about it, and that's all you get.
[2:37] Ben: I did a movie, it doesn't have a title, but with the Gavin O'Connor who is the director, he's the director of The Accountant. Yeah, that'll be out late summer, early fall time.
[2:45] Oscar: I'm also doing a small sort of sci-fi movie. It's called Star Wars Episode 9.
[2:51] Garrett: It's kinda - It's a smaller budget kinda thing.
[2:53] Oscar: Yeah.
[2:54] Garrett: It's very hard in cinema: you know, if it's not a very big budget thing, you know it's a small budget thing. The... the... Space Wars.
[3:02] Oscar: Space Fights?
[3:03] Garrett: Space Fights.
[3:04] Oscar: (chuckles) Yeah.

Video Description:
Disclaimer: None of the videos I transcribe belong to me. They belong to the content creators and the crew behind the videos. Please keep in mind that my transcripts may not be 100% as I am not a professional. I'm just someone who wants to provide video transcripts for people like me to understand and enjoy these videos.
For this video, I focused on the speakers while translating some of the on-screen text from French to English. I used the French captions in the video as a guide for the timestamps. I did also use Google translate for some of the French captions, so I apologize if some are incorrect. For the rest of the transcript I just followed whatever came out of the guys' mouths.
If there are any corrections you would like me to make, let me know in the comment section of the post.
If you like this video or any other videos from SensCritique, please support them by watching their videos on their YouTube channel and/or through other means by them. Also, if you want to support the film, it's on Netflix and apparently the sequel is in the works with Charlie as a main producer. Also, if you'd like, check out the filmography of the cast like Charlie Hunnam, Ben Affleck, Garrett Hedlund, Oscar Isaac, and Pedro Pascal (who's not in this interview but is in Triple Frontier interviews).
Personal Notes: So I got distracted while editing the mera video transcript and found myself back into the Triple Frontier fandom. I haven't been here since 2019 so it's been a hot minute. I transcribed this video because there is a section in the middle that is so funny to me that I almost had to hold my breath transcribing it. Rewatching these interviews really shows the golden retriever personality of Garrett that I didn't fully notice until like a few month ago when I got distracted back into the Triple Frontier and Garrett fandom. The video is funny because it literally cuts Garrett off because he got excited that Charlie was excited and Oscar was excited and -
Anyways, I don't know when I'll finish the mera video I have been working on. I think it's been maybe half a year. When I finally finish it, I'll probably schedule a series of reblogged posts that'll hint to it. In the meantime, I think I did transcribe a Triple Frontier-related video that has Pedro in it so keep an eye on that among other videos.
That's all for now. I'll catch you all in the next post. See ya!

writing patterns
rules: list the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern
thank you for the tag @doggernaut! 🩵 eight of my ten most recent fics have been written in the last three weeks for efickegster, so i'm interested to see where the similarities lie (she says, knowing damn well where the similarities lie)
put me back in it (3/8/24) Bitty gets kidnapped at eight.
excuse me (i love you) (3/6/24) As a rule, Kent does not believe in miracles.
still a planet (3/5/24) Bitty's least favorite dream opens like this.
can't unmiss you (2/29/24) Tater’s letting some girl he doesn’t know shoot tequila out of his belly button when he gets the text.
terms or conditions (2/27/24) Dex is thinking about why fancy restaurants invest in stupid shit when Nursey says, "Poindexter, I don't think this is working."
always, forever (2/26/24) Hot morning sun on his shoulders, a big, hot hand on the small of his back, and Bitty has no clue where he is.
imperfections (2/25/24) Half awake, the first thing out of Bitty's mouth is, "We have gotta stop meeting like this."
if it's on, i'm on (2/24/24) Halfway through December, with the night becoming morning and the tub juice lighting him on fire, Oliver O'Meara thinks he's having a pretty good freshman year.
see your body bare (2/14/24) It's a dirty hit.
advent (11/23/23) After almost fifty years, Jack knows how to be famous.
the verdict: apparently i am clinically unable to write a first line of substantial length! i sort of knew i trended this way, but it's really interesting to see them all lined up next to each other and realize they are shorter than bitty 🤷‍♀️ this is also funny because as y’all might be aware i’m also clinically unable to write a short line anywhere else in a fic. this post sponsored by the comma splice and em dash gang.

Lewisohn vs. Cynthia Lennon, Pt. 1 of 3
Seems like we're getting some momentum, eh? Let's keep it going! To that end, here is the first of three posts comparing Tune In against Cynthia Lennon's memoirs. Cyn wrote two memoirs: A Twist of Lennon (1978, henceforth Twist) and John (2005). Lewisohn cites Twist 21 times and John five times, twice in conjunction with Twist. Of these citations, I found issues with sixteen of them. I'm deferring judgment on footnote 9-33 at this time, as it cites three other sources that I haven't gone through yet.
Cyn's memoirs were used both for quotes and for factual information in Tune In. In general, the quotes were less mangled than the ones taken from the 1980 Playboy interview, but I also stumbled upon some other issues, namely plagiarism and mischaracterization of certain events. Some of that will pop up here, but I intend to make standalone posts to explore those issues further.
For previous Lewisohn fact-checking, check out @mythserene's work and my Lewi-sins tag. Onwards!
Twist p.25-6 vs. Tune In 11-22
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This passage describes the emotional timbre of John and Cyn’s relationship starting from their art school days. Tune In gives a mostly faithful account – I’ve underlined/highlighted some details that are consistent in both books. There was one line that stuck out to me in Tune In, though: “she knew he’d dismiss her in a second if she didn’t stand up to him.”
There’s no account of Cyn standing up to John in Twist. She withstands his behavior, but there’s no evidence of her pushing back, particularly in the early days. She describes herself as “a quaking, nervous wreck on many an occasion—so much so that the thought of going into college the following day would fill me with fear and dread.” I can’t think of any passages in Twist where we see Cyn standing up to John, and John (2005) is similar. In the latter, Cyn does give a couple of anecdotes in which she goes against John’s will (e.g. having Julian baptized), but this is usually done in an “ask forgiveness, not permission” way, rather than directly confronting him.
In fact, this isn’t the first time Lewisohn mentions Cynthia standing up to John. Just a few paragraphs before the above example, he writes this:
Tumblr media
Cyn standing up to John is crucial enough that Lewisohn mentions it twice in short order, but that dynamic isn’t present in either of Cynthia’s accounts. Of course, there’s always the possibility of bias—perhaps Cyn portrayed herself as meeker than she was in practice—but if that’s the case, Lewisohn needs to provide a source. He mentions conflicting accounts multiple times throughout Tune In, but there’s no word of that here.
This isn’t the only time Lewisohn writes something contradicted by his cited source, and in some of those cases, I’ve found information supporting Lewisohn’s account in another, uncited source—we’ll get an example of that in the Twist citations. But I don’t think that’s what’s going on here—I think Lewisohn is subtly but purposefully warping the dynamics of John and Cyn’s relationship to make John come off better. He doesn’t go so far as to erase or excuse John’s abuse, but he implies there was more give-and-take in the relationship than was really there.
Twist p.18 vs. Tune In 10-34
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are no factual errors or misquotes here; Lewisohn is instead too faithful to the source material. Cyn describes her first dance with John as “slow and smoochy”; Lewisohn describes it as “slow, smoochy.” Yeah, he changed the “and” into a comma, but this is still plagiarism. “Slow” is a classic dance descriptor, but “smoochy”? Lewisohn is lifting original, distinct verbiage with little change. If this was a one-off thing, I might give him a pass, but he frequently leans heavily on distinctive phrases from his sources. There will be a post.
Twist p.30 vs. Tune In 13-10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omission without ellipsis.
Twist p.42-43 vs. Tune In 13-53
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A one-word quote from Cyn, but Cyn did not say that one word. Without the quotes this would be fine.
Twist p.37 vs. Tune In 13-64
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The quote itself (in green) is consistent here, but check out the surrounding sections in pink. Cyn says that the boys’ magic was “so indefinable as to be almost non-existent at times” until they started playing. Lewisohn uses it as a blanket description of the band while playing. Not the most consequential change, I know, but Lewisohn is nevertheless using a quote in a way that directly contradicts the source.
Twist p.42 vs. Tune In 15-32
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few dropped words and one large, unmarked omission in the middle of the quote, but the meaning is retained.

@kraglynn
okay! i suppose we can do this then!
. ? ! , : ; ' " – — - · ... [ ] { } ( ) / < >
here's our list of punctuation at current moment .
(gonna like really quickly assume you know what the first four are for. they're easy. periods end sentences, question marks end sentences when the sentence is a question, exclamation points express emotion (raised tone i guess? it could be excitement. it could be annoyance. you get it), and commas break down sentences and whatever. you know commas.)
colon and semicolon are kinda like a comma in that they will subdivide sentences. some schools of grammar like to do this thing where they all are like. supposed to represent a period of time you should pause for? so it's like the period/question mark/exclamation point pauses longest, then the colon, then semicolon, then comma. it's a whole thing. i figure most of you also know how to use these
an apostrophe is for contractions! i'm pretty sure you also know this. quotation marks are for quoting things or occasionally as irony punctuation (called scare quotes in this case)
for the en dash and em dash, i'm going to refer you to either of these posts (though one of them is slightly off. there is technically a separate minus sign but some people use an en dash)
the hyphen (or technically hyphen-minus. don't worry about it. it changed when typewriters were invented so it's basically just the normal hyphen but i don't like it so) is used for hyphenated words. and names. you know the ones. look up a list of hyphenated words if you don't know any. some people use two hyphens in a row to be an em dash but that's kinda dumb. sorry.
the interpunct is mostly used in non-english languages honestly. in french it's cool because it thwarts the horrible gendering by being fun and making the word gender neutral (basically it's "word with masculine ending·feminine ending" as in étudiant·e . it's not official but like. no gender neutral stuff in french is official. so . i don't care.) but also it's in a lot of twitter screenshots so. and also also, sometimes i will count bullets as interpuncts because. it's easier. they're similar okay • vs · is fine (it actually bothers me but we can redecide on it later)
... you know ellipses right? sorry i'm busy, so i'll skip em. they're longer than a period in the length thing i think
[ ] brackets like these are mostly used for adding information, context, whatever to quotes! they're sometimes called square brackets. it's mostly just quotes.
{ } curvy brackets/braces are mostly used in math. they do have uses technically but like. they're mostly here because i didn't want to leave them out
(you know these too right?)
/ good ol' fashioned slash. not a backslash that's this guy \ anyways. this is used for like. either/or a lot. or pronouns. those are fun
< > these are technically the less than/greater than signs but they're honorary angle brackets because it's easier to type. proper angle brackets are these ⟨ ⟩ and they're used to offset parenthetical information if you're not using an em dash or parentheses for whatever reason. sometimes called chevrons. afaik the less than/greater than signs can be substituted unless you're like. writing something extremely formal. also sometimes used in comics to indicate something has been translated! also sometimes used to denote thoughts! ⟨hm should i call this a day now?⟩
yeah. that's good enough. but if you want more info on any specific punctuation, you can ask me more specifically and then i will answer it when i am less busy probably

Hi, not to target you personally but I wanted to include this for all future posts: please do not format your asks like this. This is extremely annoying to add tags under. If you are including lists of tropes or ships, a simple comma (,) goes a long way.
Thanks!

Thoughts at Noon...
Excel runs EVERYTHING.. or at least.. spreadsheets do.
It's how my mind works and I tend to have lots of projects that are spreadsheet based.
Because of that, I've learned to fuck around with VBA and certain formulas to make it do what I want, which can be frustrating as fuck!
Today W came to me with a problem.
There are 3 sheets... each one has 85 rows and 180 columns and they go together, so A1 of sheet1, a1 of sheet2, and a1 of sheet3 are all linked.
One is latitude, the other is longitude, and the 3rd is data value.
So if you combine all 3 sheets, A1 is 21, 77, 3.122 - which you can map!
But the problem was, how do we make a single sheet that has lat, lon, data in a way that a mapping program will read it??? Remember, you basically have a grid of 15,300 cells! It goes from A1 to FX85!!!
Well I knew I could do this in sheets using the FILTER command, that basically took each column and put it one after another after another so that B1 became A86 and so on. But I didn't want to hand write that out 540 times! (180 columns x 3 sheets)
So first I wrote the filter command for the first column on the first sheet... and then I did a simple concatenation script that replaced the column letters and sheet letters and whomph... it filled it all in and made a quick combined sheet with all of the data in a mappable format.
Of course since it's coding, there were some hiccups with commas and a missing parentheses or 2 ... but it worked, and it didn't take long, and W doesn't have to do it manually!! Copy column B under A... repeat 180 times for each sheet... wooo no.
And that's why it's nice that both of us do GIS ... and I earned my nickname F1 (i'm the help button)
