Zimbabwe Land Reform Deal Still Divides After 25 Years
Introduction Zimbabwe land reform remains a politically charged issue even 25 years after the controversial seizure of white-owned farms. The government’s recent move to compensate evicted white farmers with a $3.5 billion deal has opened deep divisions—not only between white and black Zimbabweans, but also among those who benefited from the reforms. The land redistribution began in 2000 under…

I have really painful eczema on my hand right now and bag balm was burning the fuck out of it, so I thought that all moisturizers did that. What’s more gentle than bag balm, right? Well, I found an old cream I got from an ag fest once, and it has a base of olive oil, beeswax, and cocoa butter, and that doesn’t seem to be stinging my hand. This cream has lanolin in it too, I wonder if petroleum is what was irritating me? I have pure shea butter around here somewhere, but that stuff honestly smells terrible. This balm has rosemary and lavender in it too, and that smells way better

I heard it's Superb Owl Sunday so I have prepared some superb owls for you.
Tumblr media
The barn owl is the most widespread species of owl, living on every continent except Antarctica. Their faces are shaped like a disk to help their hearing, giving them some of the best hearing of any owl. They mostly hunt by sound.
Tumblr media
Snowy owls are the largest arctic predatory birds, They are born with black feathers and get whiter as they age. Females usually have more dark feathers than males.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eastern screech owls have a few feather variants that make them look like completely different species.
Tumblr media
The southern white-faced owl can increase its metabolic rate during winter to compensate for the cold and lack of food. They lay their eggs in nests built and abandoned by other birds.
Tumblr media
The great grey owl is the largest owl by length, but a lot of that is feathers and they're actually very light for their size. Their hearing is good enough to hear rodents burrowing through snow and they can break through hard-packed snow to catch prey.
Tumblr media
Blakiston's fish owl is the largest owl by mass and eats mostly fish. Despite the name, they may be more closely related to eagle owls than fish owls.
Tumblr media
The elf owl is the smallest owl species, barely larger than a sparrow. They hunt bugs and play dead when caught. They like to live in holes in saguaro cacti.
Tumblr media
Burrowing owls live in underground burrows. While they can dig, they mostly take over burrows from other animals. Farmers killing prairie dogs has severely reduced burrowing owl populations. They decorate their burrows with feces to attract bugs to eat.
The barking owl is called that because

Its nice to have a day to appreciate superb owls. Feel free to spread the love by reblogging with some more owl facts.

Just a curious question, but would this be a good time to bring up buying local? Not that it hasn't always been a good thing to buy local, but like, it almost sounds like getting food from a nearby farmer's market would be safer than a grocery store. I know there are some contaminates to still worry about but idk... spitballing ideas
thanks for any thoughts or insights and lots of support your way during this clusterfuck
Buying local is always a good idea provided it’s an option.
I’m aware a lot of my followers live in food deserts or on extremely restricted income, so I don’t always jump to just cheerfully saying “just buy local/just go to the farmers market!” because I know some people genuinely can’t.
Same with people saying “grow your own it’s actually super easy.” Even when they suggest more accessible means of gardening, it isn’t accessible for everyone, especially to those of us with energy limiting disabilities where getting out of bed can sometimes be impossible.
They are good suggestions, just not always accessible. Which raises a good point: community.
If you have the means to garden or take trips to local farmers markets, check with your friends, family and neighbors to see if they need help accessing food. Some might not be physically able to make the trip to the farmers market, but may have the money for you to buy things for them or to compensate you.
We used to buy from a cooperative with my in laws to get things like fresh fruit and vegetables from the local farmers market. We may go back to this provided we can afford it.
It might seem awkward to ask your friends and neighbors about such things, but if we want community, we’ve got to be the people who build it. And the only way we’re getting through this is by helping each other.

Jaskier has known he wasn’t entirely human for a while. What he didn’t know was that he got his nonhuman blood from his father. They are part fae.
He discovers this when his father dies and leaves him everything—not be a they were close but because Jaskier’s brother had somehow angered the man.
Part of his father’s “property” were actual, fucking people. People who were tied to his service with fae magic.
Lovely.
Thankfully, his father kept a roster of the people and the conditions for their release. The conditions were all seemingly impossible things, but Jaskier wasn’t a bard for nothing.
A dwarf has to give him the greatest weapon? Words are Jaskier’s weapon: give him a quill. A farmer has to give him his firstborn? Give him the firstborn animal from this season. An elf has to give him enough riches to satisfy a king? Ha! No riches can satisfy a king! So the condition is already met!
One after another, Jaskier frees these people—and gives them compensation from his father’s wealth. Fuck you, old man! He eventually reaches the last person on the list.
Geralt of Rivia.
A witcher whose condition is to betray the person he holds dearest.
Well.
Shit.
Geralt and Jaskier put their heads together to try to come up with a “betrayal”. And they travel together in the meantime.
However, the more time they spend together, the less effort Geralt seems to put into seeking his freedom.
"If life could grant me one blessing, it would be to rid me of you," Geralt spat in a fit of anger, the regret sinking in the moment the words escaped his lips.
"Well, it seems your wish has been granted," Jaskier replied, his tone steady, resolute. "No more meddlesome Fae at your side. You're free now."
Before Geralt could muster a response, Jaskier was gone. The Witcher hadn't meant it—not truly. It was a fleeting moment of rage, a bitter lapse in judgment. But Jaskier was Fae, and Fae were clever, their words binding in ways mortals often regretted. If Geralt wanted his bard back, he would have to outwit the trickster magic.
And he was more than willing to rise to the challenge.
