#i'm coming up with a little self-indulgent story :3 #Where this woman‚ Palmer‚ was brought to the Land Of The Dead by mistake after a relative's passing #Death's Assistant rescued her from losing contact with her dimension by bringing her to the Limbo‚ an intermediary between the two worlds #Her main goal was to return home‚ until local conflicts and unexpected meetings with previously assumed imaginary friends #led her to question the real reason to be there ---#It feels right to create stories for these characters :o #and not just leave them hanging in an empty blank space (which is a constant pattern in most backgrounds of my art)#there are also other characters that show up but I haven't thought of their role yet #and I really like this idea of simplistic designs changing over time (10+ bonus points if it follows character development)#while really complex ones usually remain the same #so ig there's more to come??? unless I come up with yet ANOTHER self-indulgent story lmao #sbahdabwhdbahdhwqbadnwanwsm #starbsart

re last reblog I do see fanfic culture pushing/replicating a certain model of "what trauma looks like," "how trauma works"

this is a problem across all areas of society obviously, but transformative works are, well, transformative. they're about crafting and modifying narratives where the fan-creator sees a flaw or a lack -- often for the better! don't get me wrong, I've done my fair share of "I take a hammer and I fix the canon," it's the main thing that gets my creative gears spinning -- but what happens when that "flaw" is simply a narrative not conforming to popular expectations?

some people just don't get PTSD from events that sound obviously traumatic. they're not masking, and they're not coping; they just straight-up didn't get the permanently-locked stress-response that defines PTSD. they walk away from a horrible experience going "well, that sucked, but it's over now." some people do get PTSD from events most people wouldn't find traumatic. we don't really know why some people get PTSD and others don't. but fandom has an idea of events that must be traumatizing, of a "correct" way to portray trauma. you see the problems with this lack of understanding in e.g. fans pressuring the devs of Baldur's Gate 3 to add dialogue where the player character badgers Halsin about his own feelings on his abuse -- because he must be traumatized, and his trauma must fit a certain mold and presentation of sexual trauma, under the mistaken impression that anything outside that narrow window is somehow "wrong" and disrespectful or even harmful to survivors.

take, for another example, the very common trope of a traumatized character who hates touch or sex "learning" to like touch or sex as a part of their healing process. certainly that can be healing for some people; other people will never like, or want, touch or sex, because of trauma or because they just don't. the assumption that someone who doesn't want sex or doesn't like to be touched must be traumatized, must be suffering from this perceived lack, is seriously harmful -- to asexual people, to people with sensory issues around touch, and to people for whom healing from trauma means freedom to refuse sex or touch.

and there's a secondary trope, one that's slightly more thoughtful but ultimately repeats the problem -- that once someone has learned that their boundaries will be respected, they'll feel it's safe to soften those boundaries. once they feel safe refusing touch or sex, they'll feel comfortable allowing it on their own terms. but many people don't, and many people won't! many people will simply never want to be touched, and never want sex, and they are not suffering or broken or lacking because of it. the idea that proving you'll respect someone's boundaries entitles you to test those boundaries -- the paradox is obvious, and yet this is something i've seen hurt (re-traumatize) people i care for.

people are imperfect victims. people don't heal in the ways you expect. many people have positive memories of their abuse, of their abusers. many people hurt others in the course of their trauma, in ways that can't easily be unpacked in a 5k oneshot. very few narratives of trauma and recovery actually fit the ones put forward by popular children's media and romance novels -- which are the ones I most see replicated in fandom spaces, because they provide the clearest narrative and easiest catharsis, and so they're easy and soothing to reach for.

that's not necessarily a bad thing! i am not immune to goopy romance tropes. i am not immune to teary catharsis. not every fic has to grapple with ugly realities. but there's a problem when these narratives become predominant, when people think they're accurate and realistic depictions of trauma, when the truth of trauma is unpleasant and uncomfortable, and doesn't fit any single narrative, let alone one of comforting catharsis

#bird original #see also: the murderbot diaries #murderbot does not like to be touched. murderbot does not like touching other people #physical contact is an unpleasant necessity in emergencies or to feign being human (something murderbot also hates)#at one point murderbot uncomfortably offers a hug to someone it cares for because she's upset and needs one --#and she refuses. because she knows it doesn't really want to; she won't ask it to do something it hates for her benefit #& yet murderbot fic often has it learning that touch ~isn't so bad~ and maybe there are a COUPLE people it likes to cuddle with.#the differences between vash in the original trigun anime and trigun stampede --#tristamp!vash is your woobie who hides his sad and traumatized heart under goofy behavior;#who copes and avoids through silly indulgences #2011!vash ... is not that #2011!vash isn't coping or masking. he feels immense grief yes; he also feels immense joy; the two are inseparable #he pursues joy moment to moment because he knows how fleeting each moment is #he loves people so intensely because he knows that he'll lose them -- so he has no time to waste with them #his grief is real and profound; so is his joy #i find that much more compelling and i feel like that's not a character i'd see in today's media environment #anyway #fandom #trauma #fanfic #throwing a golden apple into the tags with this but fuck it we ball

#i had to do this none of the ones i have seen have been weird enough for me #honestly the first is the best he just fucking MANIFESTED on the back of the seat next to me #and when i turned around to scan the theater behind us i grabbed at the neighboring seat for leverage #and it was his got damned ankle #we made eye contact for two seconds before a giant spotlight shone on us #i would think it was cool now but I was only 10 and wanted to D I E #i swear to god i felt NOTHING when he landed his rigging or whatever must have been AMAZING #most humiliating moment of my life to that point though #you accidentally grab a childhood celebrity crush's ankle during a live performance and he looks into your eyes #then the whole theater is looking at you #oh my god it was horrendous #i hope he remembers it

I know I've been on about this for a while now and I'm being a hater but you're telling me SydCarmy was "always meant to be platonic" even though there are two seasons of writing making use of tried-and-true explicitly romantic tropes, themes and writing signals, and SydLuca is going to be romantic because...he was nice to her on screen for a few minutes?

I don't even care if people ship SydLuca, or if they just prefer it, but you can't honestly tell me that you believe Carmy was always meant to be a friend but Luca is an obvious love interest.

Just because Syd and Carmy haven't kissed or confessed their love to each other doesn't mean that isn't very obviously the direction this show is going. The Bear has already shown you who is endgame. It has shown you every episode of the show so far.

Honestly I really don't think The Bear fanbase understands this show or cares about these characters or the story being told here, which is unfortunate because this show is shockingly well-written in comparison to most shows right now, and we should be so grateful for it but all we're doing is complaining that the writers led us on by not making a ship canon fast enough. It's just. Sad.

These are characters who are strangers. who are working together. Who are in a tense environment #and each of them has problems - one of them the type of problems that makes developing new relationships pretty difficult #these two would not get together right away. It would take a long time. And there would be ups and downs.#And even when that's the case. Even if when it takes a long time and doesn't go smoothly and is hard -#it can still be beautiful. It can still be romantic. It can still happen and here's how #and I'm just so inspired genuinely. It is so difficult to write romance without being cliche and so difficult to write it in a way that #could actually happen in real life and I really do hope I can write something half as good some day #and then to know so many people have no appreciation for it at all #because they prefer the shows that have characters make eye contact a few times and then confess their love for each other like #it's just fucking sad. So sad that so few people have any appreciation for good writing especially the difficult of romance writing #like I really just don't even know what to tell you. In real life these two would not have confessed to each other yet. They would not have #kissed yet. They would not have even realized they have feelings for each other yet because those feelings would still be developing #and I also want to point out that given the disparity in power between Syd and Carmy in season 1 it wouldn't have been healthy for them to #get together much sooner. He was her boss. He was also her idol. Before they can even get together that needs to be balanced out.#And then on top of that don't you see the value in Carmy realizing the dream girl he's romanticized in his head - Claire - isn't actually #what he wants? Don't you see the beauty in him being disillusioned from that? And realizing that Syd is what he wants?#Don't you see the beauty in Syd having an idealized vision of what Carmy The Great Chef is like realizing she was wrong and that he's human #and flawed and then realizing - she loves him anyway? She loves him more for not being on a pedestal and for having his flaws?#Are you telling me that even thinking about this doesn't move you? Doesn't make your heart ache a little?#And again - ship and let ship - but what is Luca? What is Luca if not just what she was hoping Carmy would be when she wen to The Beef?#What is he if not just another man who she has not seen under pressure yet? Not seen reliving trauma yet? Not been her boss yet?#It's easy to look at him and think he's better than Carmy - and that's the point. That's the point The Bear is making.#It is easy to want someone you don't know. It's hard to want to someone you do know. But that's what love requires and that's the point

#keese draws #oc art #oc #pmd #pokemon #pokemon mystery dungeon #pmd oc #these guys are inspired by my usual pokerogue team #oh also imagine a question mark after every he/him I have the trans woman beam pointed at all of them #these are just initial concepts for the actual characters themselves now that I’ve developed the world a lil bit #but yeah these 4 were childhood friends who wanted to be in an exploration team together but had to split up for years #tart and quart both had to move away and cart ended up leaving his hometown to try and become a real adventure a few months later #cart and bart remained in contact for a few years before cart got caught up in some crime circles #he was incredibly trusting when he was younger so he got taken advantage of and ended up digging himself a deeper hole in an attempt to be #manipulative back and eventually he got scared enough that he tried to reach out to a guild and acted as a spy for them in turn for them #eventually helping to clear his name and allowing him membership #there were parts of the deal that were unfair and kind of shady but he was desperate enough to pretend he didn’t notice #after he joined he started immediately putting out listings for new team members and he fully planned on being super picky #but when two of his childhood friends applied he was over the moon about it #and immediately accepted both of them #now quart also applied because he had recently ran away from his old life and was desperate to have a new one #and he missed his old friends deeply so when he saw one of them actually managed to start building the team they all wanted to make he was #quick to apply even if he was rusty as hell on normal non contest combat #cart didn’t recognize him at first and mostly only let him have a trial run because he thought it was funny that an eevee of all things was #applying for a high level exploration team and he fully planned on telling quart off immediately afterwards #this ofc made quart very upset and angry but he didn’t try to clairify who he was because he just assumed that time had made cart into an #asshole which isn’t wrong per say but quart didn’t realize cart didn’t recognize him #it was a rough trial expedition but cart found himself actually quite impressed with quart’s slight of paw skills and his impressive biting #speed so he decided to give quart a real chance instead of a mocking one #eventually quart laughs for the first time around him and that makes cart realize who he is and that makes him feel horrible

#finished my last exam for this year YAY YIPPEE YAHOO ETC. but also now we wait for if i pass or not DREAD FEAR WARINESS ETC.#which i rlly don't think i will like. did not feel good abt the 1st exam period felt worse abt the 2nd and this one is like.....idk idk...#pretty confident abt the books part of the exam bc i KNOW i got everything on that correct but the thing is it was an oral exam and i was #stumbling over my words so bad + my voice was quivering i could hear it. hoping they don't count that as minus points but for the speech #thing i also had to do 2day they DO include how your voice sounds when you speak and like stammering and such in the final point count so #like. what if it's the same there.....ALSO they include use of gesturing to emphasize what you're saying and CORRECT EYE CONTACT in the #final point count. which. i don't have a problem with gesturing & i had a piece of paper in my hands so at least i wasn't too bad on that #front but when it comes to eye contact it's only flitting eyes or unnerving stare with me and nothing in between so i'm completely fucked i #that regard.#r.txt #WHATEVER it's done now. stupid ass weird rules WHO CARES if i don't have correct usage of eye contact what even is correct usage of eye #contact?????? like HOW am i supposed to know what the quote correct amount unquote is man. INFJ: No, I don’t know those moments. I’m less productive, you see. When I’m overwhelmed by all the stuff I have to do, I panic and stare at the wall for three hours.

real-life adulting, man. i'm still my ex's emergency contact 6.5 years after we broke up and he just gave me his new girlfriend's phone number so that i can contact her if something happens to him. this is in lieu of making her his emergency contact, which may seem like it would make more sense, except that he hasn't told his parents about her. so i get to be the emergency contact who then would contact both the girlfriend and the parents. this all makes total sense to me despite the fact that i don't even live in his city. it's whatever! we've known each other a long time!!

#he could make her his emergency contact and give her my number and i could then call his parents #but he's only known her for two months so honestly this makes more sense to me despite the fact that if there were an emergency #the only one who could go to where he was at all quickly would be the new girlfriend #(his parents live on the other side of the country and i live several hours away)#also i have met his girlfriend. this would probably be weird if i hadn't met her but i have so it seems fine #also i'm a child of divorce so the whole 'not telling some people about other people' thing is completely normal to me #i've already got it planned out. i would call her and she would go to the hospital or whatever right away. i'd call the parents #and by the time they could get there i would already be there. then i could run interference in person #and i would do this for him happily because i 100% understand why he hasn't told his parents about her #it's too late for me. they already know me. and they know i'm not with him anymore. so i can take it #if they stay together at some point he will have to tell them about her and i assume at that point he'll switch the emergency contact #but it's still early so this makes total sense in the meantime
