I received this email today explaining that the cost of my Microsoft 365 subscription was going up in cost from 9.99/mo to 12.99/mo, and that my plan would switch over on February 14th, 2025.
Tumblr media
If you received a similar email, I'm here to tell you that this is deliberately misleading information from Microsoft, and you can absolutely stay on your current plan if they're trying to switch you to a new, more expensive one.
Log in to your Microsoft account and go to your Subscriptions tab. You should have some splurge here about how they're gonna automatically switch your plan on a certain date.
Find the "Cancel Subscription" option.
Tumblr media
This will bring you to the subscription cancellation page, and if you scroll down, you'll find the option to simply NOT switch your plan to the more expensive one they're releasing.
Tumblr media
Microsoft is trying to be sly about signing people up to their AI bullshit by making it sound very much like you don't have an option in these alert emails.
Even if you haven't received one of these emails, go check up on your Microsoft subscriptions and make sure they haven't just made a decision for you, because it's clear they would rather try to sneak and shoehorn Copilot into our pockets without our informed consent.
Tumblr media
Stay safe out there folks, don't let the AI into your life. Treat it like the plague it is.

After Copilot started to appear in Word, I went to cancel my MS 365, and -
PSA: If you have MS 365 Personal, cancel your subscription. They will offer you a cheaper sub that still gives you Office & the same OneDrive storage, but no Copilot AI. This tier isn't an option for new subs, it's hidden.
I'm just going to switch to pCloud or Ice Drive anyway, something that actually support Linux since that's where I'm going after Win10 security is done. Plus both are cheaper than OneDrive.

Accidentally Cursed myself
Decided to uninstall Microsoft 365 off of my computer because I don't use it, haven't used it in quite a while, and don't need to use any of the programs for it since I've found an alternative thats better... I'm gonna have to reinstall it because it's making my computer so slow!
I was doing it to make space on my computer since I'm never using that program again and windows doesn't like that. I've been learning how to program Linux and set up a bool so I can switch between windows and Linux if I ever needed Windows for something. Slowly working on not needing to use Windows again.
Especially with their instant need that Copilot must be on. That and I don't wanna move over to Win11. No thank you to that. Plus the backdoor security risk Copilot leaves is something that I really want to get away from. So getting all that figured out.

PSA for Office 365 users!
I haven't seen anyone bring this up yet, so I want to share a warning. Today, out of the blue, I opened up Word and saw this:
Tumblr media
Now, this is tumblr so I don't have to explain why this is absolutely disgusting. What I do want to tell you is what to do if Microsoft Office shoves this in your face.
(First off, yes, there is a Copilot checkbox in Word's settings/options menu. It's very clearly marked, and it does effectively disable Copilot. But I wanted a way to banish it thoroughly back to hell, and I actually found a better way than disabling it in settings, so stay with me!)
What you want to do is go to your Microsoft account online, and change your subscription to a "Classic" subscription. In order to do this, you have to click on "Cancel subscription" first, and that will take you to a page where it gives you the choice to switch to something else.
Tumblr media
I had Personal, so I switched to Personal Classic. (I don't know if Family subscriptions work any differently. Feel free to chime in if you have more info.) The change will take effect whenever your subscription renews next.
And just in case you needed any more proof that Microsoft is evil, notice how the Personal subscription costs $99/year and Personal Classic costs $69/year? Personal Classic is new as far as I can tell, but I've had Personal for a couple years, and I pulled up my receipts and found that my last annual charge for it was $69.
So basically they're sneaking Copilot and a bunch of other AI garbage into everyone's existing subscriptions, upcharging it by $30, and hoping no one will notice. They didn't announce this to me. I only discovered it by accident. Quite honestly, I'm shocked that they even offer a downgrade option, let alone that it's so easy to switch online (it took me about three clicks). I'm betting they're counting on the fact that no one will know they have this option in the first place.
Please signal boost, because I don't know who needs to see this!!!

Important announcement!
Before someone flames me for it, this only applies to the Microsoft 365 Copilot (formerly Microsoft 365 (Office)) application, not the whole suite. Better luck next time, haters.

Transforming Field Service with Microsoft Copilot in Dynamics 365: AI-Powered Efficiency for Frontline Teams
In today’s rapidly evolving service landscape, organizations must prioritize efficiency, responsiveness, and informed decision-making. Microsoft Copilot in Dynamics 365 Field Service addresses these demands through the power of generative AI, delivering intelligent assistance tailored to the needs of frontline roles such as managers, dispatchers, and field technicians.
Copilot, embedded within Dynamics 365 and powered by Microsoft Dataverse, utilizes natural language processing and real-time data to assist users in automating tasks, generating insights, and improving productivity across the service lifecycle. From creating work order summaries to recommending technician assignments and optimizing scheduling, Copilot transforms routine operations into streamlined, data-driven processes.
For frontline managers, Copilot enhances oversight by generating automated reports, offering performance analytics, and suggesting strategies for balanced workloads. Dispatchers benefit from AI-powered job matching, automated scheduling, and real-time alerts for conflicts or delays, allowing them to assign tasks quickly and accurately. Field technicians receive step-by-step guidance, instant access to historical data and asset records, and hands-free support through voice commands—boosting their efficiency and confidence on the job.
Key benefits of integrating Copilot into Dynamics 365 Field Service include:
Higher first-time fix rates through enhanced technician preparation
Faster response times and optimized travel via smart dispatching
Improved customer satisfaction due to quicker, more precise service delivery
Greater operational visibility for managers and decision-makers
Real-world use cases highlight Copilot’s impact:
A utilities dispatcher auto-schedules emergency repairs based on technician skills and location, cutting downtime by 30%.
A facilities manager leverages Copilot-generated reports to identify top performers and service bottlenecks.
A technician resolves a complex HVAC issue using AI-driven instructions combined with IoT data and service history.
To get started, businesses must have the correct Dynamics 365 Field Service licensing, integrate Microsoft 365 tools like Teams and Outlook, and train their teams on leveraging AI responsibly and effectively.
