the funniest thing ever is people openly hating on the one piece live action online just to be quirky and different, thinking it would set them apart from other "petty idiots" who liked it. fan boys are really built different yeah?
the cowboy bebop live action was a different story, it was inconsistent, it lacked proper research and the characters were written and portrayed lazily, with no care at all and yes I am the same person who tried to defend it when it came out, only because I desperately wanted it to work. But it obviously didn't and people were legitimately right to hate it and stop it from airing, because it butchered our favorite characters and watered the whole plot down into nothing (like what was up with that portrayal of vicious anyway? It was laughable and don't even get me started on Faye Valentine). But it feels different with the one piece live action, I just know it and people hating it for no reason and shaming others for liking it, it's really childish.

“Good news! That cartoon show you loved as a kid is set to become the latest live-action movie!”
Kitten, I’ll be honest, Daddy’s about to start killing people.

It bears repeating that the few negative reviews include several outlets like Polygon who are mad the show is too faithful to the manga.
Once the strike is resolved with a fair deal for the writers and actors, we are going to see a lot of optioned anime IP’s fast tracked for film and television shows.

So... Apparently UA s4 is a massive flop.... I'm not saying we need to start bullying* showrunners and writers and networks/streamers (*putting pressure on them to do right by beloved pieces of media with passionate fan bases so much so that they feel they'll get the guillotine if they do anything less than perfect and justice by the story/characters) but.... We need to start bullying showrunners and writers and networks/streamers again. These mfs have gotten too comfortable

hate hate hate that the supposed "best" thing that can happen to an animated show/movie is that it gets a live action adaptation. like no i do not want to watch my favourite show but with bad pacing, dialogue, fight scenes and with random unnecessary plot points that detract from the message of the original story
oh so you need to "update" the story by girlbossifying the female character so that she has a 2D personality and then make sure that all the "good guys" are perfect angels angels and never make mistakes?? thanks i hate it

Netflix's Cowboy Bebop was a lame adaptation... but a darn good show.
The way I experience the live action series was somebody who enjoyed Cowboy Bebop years ago before other titles and shows swamped my life. And this was before things got crazy with Streaming Services. As such, I had a sense of dissonance from the original and didn't feel the need to actively compare and contrast it to what came before.
I say this because, going into this from fan backlash to legit preview clips, I was expecting something to at least enjoy in how off the mark it was. Enjoy the bad dialogue, good actors giving 100% to a script that barely gives it 45% and even the lame effects.
Yet... it was actually good and I can't help but attribute that to them knowing what to adapt as well as what to embellish for their version to stick out. The end result is something that actually did appeal to a lot of people. Enough for many to object to Netflix's cancelation which, in my book, has become a mark of quality by this point in their endless vies for tax cuts.
So... yeah. It doesn't try to capture what made the original the original but at least comes off as a clumsy if charming attempt to be its own iteration. Akin to something like TMNT or Transformers where the core premise remains across each show but elements are shifted around for how it suits them.
Also Faye was a treat. "Welcome to the ouch, motherf**kers!" indeed. XD

They need to stop making live action versions of anime!! my 63 year old dad just got me into fucking one piece!! He started watching it bc he liked the giant fish on the picture and thought that perhaps it was about fishing but now he’s absorbed into the lore!! Fuck you Netflix for getting my dad (and by extension me) into One Piece I’m coming for you fr

Got my Stepdad to watch the first episode of the OPLA and after the episode was over he turned to me and said "I'm hooked". He said it was funny and had good fight scenes.
He's only watched the first episode of the anime.
Another win in my book.
