#Cuban Coffee Queen Key

February 6 - Molly D spent one night in Marathon prior to making the final leg of our winter journey to Key West. We were scheduled to spend two nights in Marathon, but adverse weather kept Molly D in No Name Harbor an extra day. The Safe Harbor Marina in Marathon has a strict 72 hour cancellation policy. We cancelled one of the two planned nights inside of 72 hours of our arrival date. We had to pay for two nights. Crappy policy!

On February 1, Molly D travelled the 40+ miles into Key West. Molly D travels the Hawk Channel down the Keys as opposed to traveling further offshore. Hawk Channel has plenty of water depth, but it also has an overabundance of crab pots. David and I have to constantly keep our eyes open for these crab pots. The buoys marking the crab pots are round and smaller than a kickball. Fortunately, the buoys are usually painted in colors that can be seen easily.

David and I breathe a sign of relief at our first sighting of the Key West mainland. We are nearing our cruise destination, and we feel that our 1600 mile journey from Connecticut was worth everything that we endured along the way. Well, almost.

Molly D arrived in Key West on a Thursday, which happens to be the day of the farmer’s market held at the Truman Waterfront Park. Time for some fresh veggies and a cup of freshly made watermelon juice. So good!

Sarah and Chris arrived in Key West on the 2nd. As is the tradition, we had half price appetizers and happy hour drinks at The Boathouse.

Sarah and Chris’ favorite coffee place is Cuban Coffee Queen. One of the shop’s location is adjacent to the harbor walk. We met up with them there. An old, rusty pickup truck nearby is decorated with stickers that random people have adhered to the truck. There is a sticker from the Penny Patch candy shop in Provincetown somewhere on the truck. We did not find it.

Today (February 6) Key West has been buffeted with high winds in the neighborhood of 26+ knots. All. Day. Long. The Galleon Marina sits behind a breakwater which has helped to keep nearly all of the harbor’s wave action away from Molly D. We also have a tall, beefy powerboat on Molly D’s starboard side serving as a wind break. Amen. Our friends on Sol A Maya are anchored off Fleming Key. They have been subjected to both the waves and the wind all day long. No getting off the boat. Not fun at all. I bet they will be elated to get off the boat tomorrow when the wind dies down.

Today is Sarah and Chris’ last full day in Key West. Today we had lunch at the Waterside Brewery. We met up again for the sunset along the waterfront. It’s been great having them around!

Tomorrow we will say goodbye to Sarah and Chris. 😢. On Sunday, our friends Frank and Mo will arrive in Key West to spend a couple of days aboard Molly D. Life is great!

Namora sighed as she laid down in her queen-sized bed, a sigh emitting from her throat as her mattress shifted with her weight. She was completely exhausted after today, being on a full patrol and dropping Keon off at Keigo's. The two heroes were still separated, especially after Kiego's alleged cheating. And her alleged revenge cheating.

She dryly stared up at the ceiling as she thought over the past couple of months. Kiego cheating. Her cheating back. Thier on and off again relationship. Having to explain to her two-year-old son why he had to see mommy for two weeks and daddy for two weeks.

Bullshit. It was utterly bullshit.

The publicity hero turned over to the side, grabbing her phone and deciding to pass the time slowly ticking away. Instagram was her go-to when she wanted to pass the time, catching up on her friend's life. Funny memes, something for her to stare at as her eyelids slowly go lower and lower over time.

As she opened up Instagram, the first thing to pop up on her screen was Samny's story, Dvina's slightly younger brother. She knew Divina was on a family vacation with her now husband Miguel O'Hara and their two children, so she also knew Sammy was most likely at home smoking dope or working on cars. The only things he did were either smoke, work on cars, or watch his niece and nephew. Nothing else.

Curiosity got to the best of her, clicking on his story and watching it with great intent. The Cuban man had his feet kicked up on his coffee table, showing his freshly rolled blunt held in his tattooed hand. Her eyes traveled down the silver chain decorating his wrist, a chain she was familiar with when it came to Sammy.

All he ever wore was silver jewelry, earrings, chains, and rings. It was one of the reasons she started wearing silver accessories so damn much.

Bit by bit, she watched his story, softly smiling as he peeked into his life. Namora was one of the few people Sammy followed, peering into each other's personal lives—her life as a hero, his life as a stoner and a mechanic.

It wasn't until a notification popped up on her phone that she stopped daydreaming, and surpise, surprise.

It was Sammy.

D.S.2035: Hey chiquita. i see u watchin my stories

Namoa playfully rolled her eyes, opening his message and texting him back.

MoraMora: You stalking me? D.S.2035: would that b a problem?

Namora couldn't help but chuckle, rolling her bright blue eyes. "Oh my god…"

MoraMora: Not necessarily. I think your sister would kill you. Or Miguel D.S.2035: aint nobody scared of that giant she call a fuckin husband. Nigga aint bulletproof.

Namora burst out in laughter, cackling as she texted him back.

MoraMora: Vina gon kill you D.S.2035: Vina can kiss my ass. I watch her damn kids. soeaking of which, its kinda lonely now that the kids aint here MoraMora: really? D.S.2035: yea. kinda miss Ana badass

She immediately paused at his text, her stomach flipping just a bit. Sammy was known to be a little, flirtatious, but she knew he was trouble. Divina had gone into deep detail on how many women her brother managed to knock up or how many failed relationships he had from not caring about a damn thing. He was bad news, and she knew. But…at the same time, she didnt seem to care much. Sammy was sexy, hot, and a little dangerous. Plus, it's not like she was cheating on anyone. They were on a break…and she was just having fun.

MoraMora: is that so? D.S.2035: mhm. you want a demonstration?

Namora's stomach flipped as he texted back, her teeth finding her bottom lip.

MoraMora: boy stop playing with me D.S.2035: good thing i aint playin Mora. bring ya fine ass over and come smoke wit me MoraMora: you know damn well you aint tryna jus smoke D.S.2035: and you know damn well you wanna see what else im tryna do

Namora, bit her lip once more, her thighs squishing together as she thought about smoking with Sammy. Occasionally, she would come over with Divina and smoke with him, with Sammy sending her glances every now and then. The two had never hung out alone without Divina knowing, so this would be the first time,

Ma. That stupid fucking nickname. Namora decided that fuck it, she needed a good stress reliever anyway. Plus …not like anyone would ever know. Sammy was a reserved guy, keeping his business and his information kept and quiet. She needed a guy like that right about now.

These rules/customs do not seem to apply to Supreme Court justices. They did once. Now their attitudes seem to be to do what they want. Note that Supreme Court justices have no code of ethics which govern them. All other federal judges do. State and local judges also, whether by rule or custom. Chief Justice Roberts sees nothing wrong with the Supreme Court members being unfettered by rules and customs of conduct. He said, "You can trust us, we're Supreme Court justices, we know the right thing to do." Not on a stack of Bibles! Especially in view of their conduct on and off the bench in recent years. My motivation in writing about what I perceive to be a problem is a recent Christmas party. Justice Kavanaugh was at such a party thrown by Matt and Mercedes Schlapp, major Republican conservative operators. Note use of the word "operators." Guests at the party included Matt Gaetz and Stephen Miller. Not a proper ethical mix for a Supreme Court justice, regardless there is no formal code governing his conduct. Syracuse was humbled again yesterday. The Syracuse football team played against Minnesota in the Pinstripe Bowl in New York City. Syracuse did not deserve to be in the bowl. Syracuse lost 28-20. A Syracuse media outlet wrote Syracuse "sputtered midway through the second half.....like a lawn mower with a faulty engine." Hopefully, next season will be better. Gas in Key West is down to $3.51 a gallon. The Florida average is $3.12 a gallon. Everything in Key West is always more expensive. I think it is a gouging excuse rather than an expense one. Yesterday was my haircut appointment. When I arrived, no Lori. She was home sick. I was told I had been called. I do not doubt it. The call probably came in while I was showering and I never checked afterwards. So it is a haircut with Lori today. Followed by a manicure with Tammy. I had lunch yesterday at the Cuban Coffee Queen. Packed. Downtown Key West was packed. A lot of families. Thirty years ago when I first began coming to Key West, the week beginning Christmas Day and ending New Years Day was gay week. A tradition. Gays filled the town. I doubt it is the same any more. Key West has fewer gays. The families suggest a change in the nature of those visiting also. One reason is probably cost. Over the years , Key West has become increasingly expensive. The gay community opted for Miami and Fort Lauderdale where cost is considerably cheaper. Brazilian soccer legend Pele died yesterday. He was 82. Colon cancer complications caused his death. Pele is considered the greatest soccer player of all time. He racked up over 1,000 goals in his career. Brazil declared him a "national treasure" to prevent him from being traded to a European club. Snow buried Buffalo this week. The storm considered the worst ever to strike Buffalo. The British did Buffalo in during the War of 1812. Not with the assistance of nature and a winter snow storm. Rather, the Brits burned Buffalo during the War this day in 1813. Mark Meadows is going to end up doing considerable jail time if he does not straighten out. He needs to see the light of day and cooperate in the various Trump investigations. Silence will only guarantee him a long jail sentence.. It was revealed yesterday that Cassidy Hutchinson during her January 6 Committee depositions testified that she watched Meadows burn documents in the White House "roughly a dozen times." Chapter 8 what time is it?

It was early morning in the omnispace void. Boomwood had gotten to the kitchen to start brewing coffee as the footsteps of a yawning purple hair woman enter the room."morning Twilight."Twilight mearly gave him a wave before sitting down. Looked at her noticing the look on her face. To be honest she looked exhausted.'ah shit'he quickly poured a shot glass of the Cuban coffee and handed it to her. She stared at the coffee for a minute."I appreciate the gesture but I doubt this is going to do much for me."good Lord gave out a chuckle."Twilight trust me this is Cuban coffee any more than this and you'll be wired."He gave out a chuckle before Twilight downed the shot, unsurprisingly her face scrunched up. This was probably the most bitter thing she ever had."bleh! Why would you drink something so bitter!"Boomlord shrugged."honestly I only drink it for the caffeine. If it helps I think I have some orange juice in the fridge."Twilight just looked down rubbing her head . Not long after the other girls walked in each of them heading into the fridge grabbing various fruits mostly apples. Boomlord jumped into the portal and when he landed his feet were on solid ground. Solid green grassy ground. He surveyed the area around him noticing he was in a grassy clear field however the ends of what looks like old nuclear bombs stuck out overtaken by the grassy plains. The girls enter next each of them still in their same outfits however 4 of the girls had notable changes to them . Twilight and rarity each had a sword at their side. Twilight sword with a sleek and purple short sword with her cutie mark on the hilt. Rarity sword on the other hand looked as if it were made of blue crystal with a white metal hilt her cutie mark also on it. Fluttershy and rainbow Dash had also had the return of their wings which Dash took this opportunity to fly up into the air a bit doing a few loops and swirls."Hell yeah I missed this!"boom couldn't help but smile."Real fly girl up there."a few of them awkwardly smile."so where's our destination?"Twilight asked giving him a quick grin knowing that he's trying his best to make everyone feel better about being in a strange world."we're going to see princess bubblegum at the Candy Kingdom."and just like that he found himself lying on the ground being pinned by pinkie pie."DID YOU SAY CANDY KINGDOM! A KINGDOM MADE OF CANDY IS THIS PLACE PARADISE O.M.C O.M.C."Twilight practically had to pry pinky off of him ."yes the entire Kingdom from the trees to the ground is made of candy including the people."He started to brush himself off as pinky smile only widen."but please don't eat the Candy people or I will probably have to stop you"pinky reluctantly nodded.

Well because it is surrounded by Pink cotton candy trees."boom called out before stopping looking at the ground a large Shadow now loomed over them. It was Spike. All the ponies turn to look back in both shock and horror. Spike mostly remain the same with one slight difference... He was absolutely Giant. His whole body in total was about the size of a two sorry house and his wings could probably cover all of them with ease."oh yeah I forgot dragons are huge here but at least he still looks different from them normally they're just Giant tube dragons with big ass butts."The ponies/girls stared for a moment but in silent agreement they chose not to address it not that Spike would mind he was too busy checking himself out."oh crap I'm HUGE you guys look so small from up here!" It was the most adorable giant grin in the world. Rainbow decided now was a good time to take him to the air as she being flapping her wings disappearing above the clouds. Surveying the land below she was able to make out what looks like pink trees and a large structure that looked somewhat like a castle."guess that must be what I'm looking for."she kept looking around noticing in One direction was a rather large tree that almost looks like it had Windows in it and in the opposite direction she noticed tall mountains made entirely of ice."heh heh heh what do we have here"a voice from nowhere stated in a malicious tone from behind her. Is she turned to look behind her she saw a giant monster with a bat like face and long blue limbs with crooked nails.'OH SHIT'at this point rainbow Dash started nose diving down towards her friends with the creature in pursuit who was maliciously chuckling the entire way down. The rest of the group saw the creature and the girls had various reactions. Applejack rarity and Twilight look like they were getting ready to fight with rarity and Twilight pulling out their swords. Fluttershy and Pinky had decided to stick near Spike who is now using his wings to shield them.Then there was boom standing out in the open as dash passed him and he just smiled. Apon seeing him the creature stopped a look of surprise on our face."hey Marceline it's been a while"the creature began to shrink taking on a human form she had pale white skin and incredibly long black hair which reached down to her feet a simple jacket and jeans and her ,guitar-axe strapef to her back and a nice big floopy hat which covered her in a shroud of darkness. She give out a wide smile revealing her fangs before wrapping her arms around boom giving him a hug."holy glob dude!your back it's been like 4 months!"he returned the embrace from his old friend as the rest of the girls started to calm down noticing that whatever that thing was it seemed friendly at least now it did."oh that's right."he turned to the girls and dragon."everyone this is my old friend Marceline... The vampire queen"a few of the girls jaw started to drop."your freinds with a literal blood sucking vampire?"Marceline shrugged at Twilight comment."actually it's just the color I'm after."Marceline started floating on her back around them."so boom what brings you and your new friends back to ooo."Boomlord got quiet."I found it Marcy.... I found the Rose fire and they're here because Twilight here"pointing at the slightly flustered purple pony girl."is the key to everything."Marceline stopped moving for a moment the words settling in her mind."oh we need to get to the Candy Kingdom right away then."then without word Marceline started floating off towards the direction of the Kingdom and boom followed along with the girls and the giant dragon...... Yeah that might be a problem.

4 After a few hours of walking they all managed to reach the candy kingdom with Spike deciding to hide in the trees to avoid unwanted attention. Pinkie pie look like she was about to go crazy or more crazy."o.m.c so m-much candy!"she was practically foaming at the mouth."look pinky just eat the sidewalk or something just please don't start eating random people I don't want to deal with any drama today especially because we need the princess's help."the pony started walking forward into the rather nice town and to boomlord credit every building and every person was made of candy, And many candies citizens passed by. Mr cupcake crunchy punch bowl guy."wow this is actually really fascinating I can't help but wonder what they're DNA is like how do candy people procreate do they need to breathe or eat its quite fascinating"Twilight then begin rambling about a whole bunch of science jargon that boom did not know but he found himself listening to every word she spoke it wasn't until arsenaline tapped his shoulder that he snapped out of his trance."I see you found a real good friend~"she whispered in a teasing tone."w-what no she's just um cool you know for someone who was a horse the other day."Marceline rolled her eyes."horse or not you always did have a thing for a Smart ones~."boom felt his blood pump. "Oh you're one to talk."Marceline then backed off she knew how far she could go before boom would made her regret it. After a while of walking the group then found themselves at the castle as a pink cared and pink skinned princess in a long pink dress noticed them."oh my! Boom you have returned and with.. many female companions huh"princess bubblegum gave a smirk."oh don't you start now too!" Boom was probably going to say more before pb gave him a warm hug."so I assume this has to do with the rose fire."bubblegum look down at him and while she kept a smile her face was full of worry."yeah Twilight here um it's kind of a long story."bubblegum nodded."it always is."about an hour had passed after this meeting and boom had explained to Marceline and bubblegum how we came to meet the girls and discover the fire leaving out the parts where he burned himself or threw a skillet at Twilight."interesting I'll probably have to run a few scans on Twilight then with her permission."Twilight nodded."good we'll start by using the rejuvenation tank to monitor your body and vitals while I conduct a few scans"boom notice that she was pointing to the large tank filled with water and knew that this meant that Twilight was going to have to strip down which he then took his cue to leave. Top things to eat and drink in Key West Florida

One of the things I loved about the Florida Keys and Key West was the food. Oh the food! After driving down the beautiful chain of islands that make up the Florida Keys, we started our three-day stay in Key West by meeting up with Key West Food Tours.

They took us on their Southernmost food tour, essentially a crash-course in Key West’s culinary history. We took away so many foodie tips from our tour guide that by the end of the three hour walking tour, we had a wealth of information on where to find the best restaurants in Key West, which cultures have influenced the Key West cuisine and which signature dishes you need to try.

So as I like to share my travel tips, here are 13 of the top things to eat and drink in Key West, Florida.

1. A Cuban sandwich from 5 Brothers

Florida was one of the first states in America to experience an influx of Cuban immigrants and a large portion of them settled in Miami and the Florida Keys – both places where you’ll find cafes and bakeries selling the classic Cuban sandwich.

It’s thought that the Cuban sandwich – also called the ‘Cubano Mixto’ – evolved from a lunchtime staple enjoyed by cigar factory workers. These days, it remains one of the top things to eat in Key West and you’ll find the best ones at 5 Brothers.

Located on 930 Southard Street in Old Town, this sandwich counter serves up these toasted delights filled with ham, pork, swiss cheese (and sometimes tomato, lettuce, onions or gherkins), flavoured with a slather of mustard and mayonnaise.

You’ll run shoulders with plenty of locals, all popping in for their daily coffee fix, newspaper and other authentic Cuban bites. The grocery store also stocks plenty of Cuban specialties which you can peruse while you wait.

  2. A Cuban coffee from Cuban Coffee Queen

The perfect accompaniment to any Cuban sandwich is of course, a Cuban coffee. And you’ll find heaps of places to try what many people dub ‘legal speed’ in Key West. El Siboney, one of the best Cuban restaurants in Key West, is a great place to pick up this super-strong beverage, while 5 Brothers (mentioned above) is also worth checking out.

If you want to join the cool crowds however, head to the Cuban Coffee Queen on Key Lime Square in Downtown or Margaret Street by Key West’s waterfront.

There are many different ways to order Cuban coffee, which we discovered during our Southernmost Food Tour. This includes the Cafecito or Café Cubano (served in a thimble-sized cup), a Café con leche (coffee with steamed milk), a Cortadito (served with a tiny splash of steamed milk) or the Bucci (a strong shot of espresso that’s served with cane sugar.) If there’s more than one of you, you can go with the tradition of ordering a Colada which is essentially an extra-large cup of the sweet Bucci, which you then share between several people in the thimble-sized cups.

Order some Pan Cubano (Cuban bread) and follow the tradition of dunking it in your cup.

3. Puerco Asado from El Siboney

Aside from Cuban coffee, authentic Cuban food is one of the top things to eat in Key West. See if you can book a table at El Siboney, a no-frills Cuban diner which attracts both locals and tourists and has become something of an institution in Key West’s Old Town.

The menu features all sorts of chicken, seafood and beef dishes, but if you’re only visiting once, try the Puerco Asado, a Cuban classic. This slow-roasted pork is often marinated in various herbs, garlic, onions and lime. And it’s a great dish to try alongside typical Cuban staples such as Moro (rice and beans), sweet or green plantains, fried cassava and tamale (steamed corn husk).

4. Empanadas & Arepas

We realised empanadas were big in Florida as soon as we got to Miami. You’ll find them dotted all around the city, especially in Little Havana. In Key West, these Latin American-style pasties are just as big, especially at breakfast time. In fact, empanadas and arepas (a corn meal dough filled with meat, cheese and other fillings) are among the most popular street food snacks in Key West.

Head to El Siboney, Bliss restaurant or Frita’s Cuban Burgers for some of the best empanadas and arepas. As the name suggests, the latter is also famous for its incredible Latin-inspired burgers.

5. Burritos and Tacos from Badboy Burrito

As I mentioned in my post about the Southernmost Food Tour, the burritos and tacos from Badboy Burrito are legendary in Key West.

Try the fish tacos and you’ll be surprised at how fresh they taste – a delicious concoction of grilled fish topped with sour cream, radish, jalapenos and fragrant coriander. When we visited, ours were filled with succulent chunks of tile fish, one of the most sustainable types of fish you can eat in Key West.

Fun fact – Badboy Burrito featured on the Food Network. You’ll find a second shop further up the Keys in Islamorada too.

6. Quesadillas from Bistro 245

Quesadillas are another South American street food that are vying for your taste buds in Key West. And to be honest, I hadn’t paid them much attention until I tried the incredible lobster quesadillas from Bistro 245 at the Margaritaville Resort.

We visited this waterfront restaurant for dinner one evening and their stylish take on the quesadilla – enhanced with tomato, caramelised onions, manchego cheese, mango salsa, cumin sour cream and juicy chunks of lobster – was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Don’t miss out!

7. Key lime pie from Key West Old Town & Bahama Village

There are so many different ways to enjoy Key Lime Pie and I wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to try them all as it’s not just one of the top things to eat in Key West, it’s also one of the most famous dishes you can eat in the whole of the Keys.

You’ll see Key Lime pies presented in various different ways across the region – some are presented with a meringue top (more traditional in Key West), some without; some are topped with whipped cream and most are baked on a graham cracker base. We even discovered chocolate-coated Key Lime Pie on a stick. (I know, amazing, right).

You can guarantee that whichever version you try, they’re going to be good.

The most famous Key Lime Pie shops in Key West include Key West Key Lime Pie Co, The Key Lime Bakery and Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe.

You can also try these gorgeous mini Key Lime Pies (pictured) at the legendary Blue Heaven in Bahama Village. They are out of this world.

8. Other Key Lime treats

From Key Lime cookies and Key Lime jelly beans to tea, chutney and taffy, the use of this citrus ingredient doesn’t stop at pie. Floridians have become quite inventive with its use and you’ll find a whole host of Key Lime-infused treats across Key West and Florida Keys.

Put aside some time to explore the various Key Lime shops across the Old Town. We found all sorts of delicious Key Lime hot sauces which you can try before you buy. And on the none-foodie front you’ll find scrubs and toiletries infused with this tangy ingredient).

9. Conch – fritters, cracked, chowder and burgers

Key Westers (or Conchs as they nickname themselves) pride themselves on cooking with this locally-caught specialty. So whether these squidgy sea snails tempt you or not, you’ve got to try them at least once!

Ease yourself in by trying cracked conch (flash fried in tempura batter) or the conch fritter with your beer at Mangoes. Then if you like it, I can highly recommend the conch sandwich at Fishermans Café on the waterfront. It’s served on a Kaiser burger bun with lettuce, tomato and Key Lime tartare sauce and their sweet potato chips are excellent.

For the best conch salad in Key West, I hear that it’s Johnson’s Grocery, an unassuming shop in the heart of Bahama Village.

And finally, when it comes to conch chowder, try El Siboney, Willie T’s or the Conch Republic Seafood Company on the waterfront and you won’t be disappointed.

10.  Hogfish sandwich from Geiger Key Marina

I don’t actually know what hogfish tastes like but I heard a lot of people talking about it while we were in Key West. And the hogfish sandwich – chunks of this white fish encased in soft Cuban bread with Swiss cheese and onions – is a favourite way to enjoy it here.

While not technically in Key West, the Hog Fish Bar on nearby Stock Island, is renowned for this Florida Keys staple. But Geiger Key Marina restaurant is probably one of the best places to try either hogfish, mahi-mahi or grouper sandwiches if you’re staying on Key West island. You’ll be asked whether you want your fish fried, grilled or ‘blackened’. If you go for the latter, the fish will be cooked in a spicy ‘blackening’ seasoning that’s used over the Keys.

11. Rum Runner from the Speakeasy Inn & Rum Bar

When it’s time for a tipple, a rum runner is one of the top things to drink in Key West. It’s a mix of light and dark (or aged) rum, banana, blackberry, grenadine, pineapple juice, orange juice and Bacardi, lime juice or sours and was actually invented in Islamorada in the Upper Keys, as a nod to the rum runners of the prohibition era.

In Key West, you’ll get the best rum runner cocktail at The Speakeasy Inn & Rum Bar, a characterful place in the Old Town, on Duval Street. It was originally owned by Raul Vaquez of Key West’s Gato cigar factory and it stocks over 250 types of rum.

12. Caribbean inspired cooking

Thanks to its proximity to the Caribbean islands and its strong Caribbean community, the food in Key West has many West Indian influences (which made me very happy).

On our first night in Key West, we dined at Blue Macaw Island Eats where you can order Caribbean-style dishes such as jerk rum glazed chicken with plantain, ‘island-style’ salads made with fresh papaya and mango and sandwiches made with authentic Cuban bread.

Over at Blue Heaven in Bahama Village, you’ll find a bounty of Caribbean-inspired curries on the menu with jerk spices and Red Stripe Beer making their way into the chef’s cook books.

Meanwhile, for no-frills Creole food that’s cooked from the heart, check out Mo’s, a Haitian restaurant where the servings are as big as the flavours.

13. Stone crab, shrimp and spiny lobster

If you like seafood, you’ll be in your element in the Florida Keys. So once you’ve tried the local conch and lobster, you might like to try a few other types of locally-caught shellfish.

Shrimp here can be served in all sorts of ways. So look out for crispy tempura batter, the famed Floridian ‘blackening’ or jerk sauce. You’ll find it’s used in all sorts of Caribbean curries too.

The Caribbean spiny lobster here is served straight up in its shell (most commonly you’ll order the lobster tail), blackened, in a curry, or used inventively in Latin-inspired dishes such as tacos and quesadillas. I actually tried both the lobster and local shrimp together in a very indulgent fettuccine at Bistro 245 and it tasted incredible.

If crab’s more your thing, Key West and the rest of the Florida Keys are known for their stone crab. Try the popular Stoned Crab restaurant on North Roosevelt Boulevard for expertly-made dishes such as stone crab bisque and their famed ‘steamers’.

And you don’t have to wait for dinner to try Key West’s best seafood. Both shrimp and lobster make their way onto many breakfast menus here. Try the famed shrimp or lobster eggs benedict at Blue Heaven in the Bahama Village.

Recently the problem can be successfully operated on in certain patients. I am not one. My age is against it. I can't win. The problem has never concerned me. I give it no thought. I asked why such a lovely and charming person such as she was would be alone. She said she was not keeping company and had no one to travel with. She needed and wanted a vacation, so she was made the trip alone. I admire her. I hate traveling alone. That is why I have not traveled in recent years. Last night, I enjoyed Jean Thornton's Thanksgiving dinner. She had frozen a meal for me and brought it with her from Birmingham. I pigged out on turkey and stuffing. Noon time exciting today. I will be out again. A haircut with Lori. Then lunch somewhere. It has been reported Trump rents a storage unit in West Palm Beach. The question is being asked why. Mar-a-Lago has 58 bedrooms, 33 bathrooms and 3 bomb shelters. Trump announced yesterday he would be making a major announcement tonight. He did not advise time or channel. His announcement was made on his own Truth Social. Respectfully, no, not respectfully, actually, he looked like a first class asshole. Trump tweeted his announcement last night with a a "superhero-themed" video. With "fantastical music" blaring in the the background, he animated in pose as Superman in front of Trump Tower. He ripped his business suit open to reveal a chiseled T-logo body suit and laser like eyes. Followed underneath by : MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT Dec. 15. A bizarre pop video. Totally unpresidential for a former President. David DePape is the man under arrest for having attacked Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer. The police announced yesterday that DePape had a "hit list." On it was Tom Hanks. Why Tom Hanks? Enjoy your day!

Time to eat your best in Key West

This little island has more to offer than its crystal blue waters and entertaining night life, it also has great food. From breakfast to dessert, these unique eateries I have come to know over the years will satisfy anyone’s tastebuds.

1. Blue Heaven

Blue Heaven located at 729 Thomas St. Key West, Fla. 33040, is a great place to start any morning; with beautiful outside seating and plenty of roosters and hens to keep you company. 

Blue Heaven is famous for their breakfast, especially the banana pancakes. They also have live music daily during lunch and dinner. But remember that everyone wants their slice of heaven, so be prepared for a possible wait. 

2. Cuban Coffee queen

If your feeling a little more quick and casual for breakfast the Cuban Coffee Queen is the perfect place for you. Located at 284 Margaret St. Key West, Fla. 33040, my family came to know about this place due to its close proximity to the marina where we kept our boat. Their coffee and cuban sandwiches will always provide you with the fuel you need to get you through any long boat day.

3. Sarabeth’s

Sarabeth’s is an up-scale chain of restaurants that started in 1981 as a little bakery in New York and has since grown. With select locations all around the world, from Dubai to Tokyo. They are most well known for their Four Flowers Juice and unique menu items. Rob Perran, 26, can be seen enjoying a plate of buttermilk fried chicken, a customer favorite that is only served on Sundays. 

4. Better Than Sex

Satisfy your sweet tooth at Better Than Sex, located at 926 Simonton St. Key West, Fla. 33040. This gourmet eatery specializing in “just desserts” could make anyones day sweeter. From the dim lighting and candles, to the red velvet chairs and drapes; the romantic atmosphere this restaurant provides would be a great backdrop for any anniversary or celebration.

Come Back, Be Here - Chapter 15

Lauren sets aside the art portfolios she’s currently grading and picks up her phone that just dinged.

[4:31 pm] Dinah Jane💄: Sleepover at our apartment tonight. You in?

[4:32 pm] Lauren🎨 : I have a lot of art portfolios to grade 😫

[4:34 pm] Dinah Jane💄: It wasn’t a question. Your girl has been extra on edge lately after seeing her attacker. She needs this.

[4:35 pm] Lauren🎨 : Of course I’ll be there then…

[4:36 pm] Dinah Jane💄: Knew if I played the Mila card your pale ass would come running 😏

[4:37 pm] Lauren🎨 : What can I say? I’m whipped💁🏻‍I came to terms with this a long time ago.

[4:38 pm] Dinah Jane💄: Ugh my ship is the cutest I swear. See ya at 5:30, Ralph.

Lauren shakes her head at the Polynesian before finshing up the art portfolio she’s grading. After setting it aside, she gets up and throws on a pair of sweats and her favorite The 1975 sweatshirt. She combs her fingers through her disheveled curls before applying a little bit of powder to her face and a light shade of lipstick. When she enters back into the living room area, she smiles at the not so little puppy sitting by her front door.

“Maybe Dinah won’t be mad if I bring a plus one.” Lauren smiles when Cam cocks his head to the side. After grabbing her phone and keys, she escorts them both to the apartment across from hers and knocks on the door.

Dinah opens it and raises an eyebrow at her when she sees the puppy sitting between the girl’s legs. “Did I say you could bring a plus one, Ralph?”

“Oh c'mon, DJ. You said it yourself, Camz needs cheering up and I know for a fact that this little guy will do the trick.” Lauren scratches the top of the dog’s head and Dinah huffs before stepping aside. Lauren smiles triumphantly as she enters the apartment. “Hey guys.” She greets Mani and Ally, who are fiddling with the DVD player.

“Hey Laur.” They both say in unison before returning their attention to the DVD player.

“Where is Camila?” The brunette’s brows furrow when she doesn’t see the younger Latina anywhere.

“Her room.” Dinah points to the back. “Tell her we are about to start the movie so she needs to get her Cuban ass in here.” Lauren nods and leads Cam down the hallway.

“Camz.” Lauren knocks once. She smiles when she hears a muffled ‘come in.’ She opens the door and Cam runs in first. Her smile widens when Camila squeals.

“Hi, baby!” The brunette jumps up from the bed when she sees her favorite animal saunter into her room. “Whatcha been doing, bud?” Camila cooes as she scratches behind his ears.

“Chewing up his dog bed and peeing all over everything.” Lauren chuckles as she enters Camila’s room.

“Hi, Lo.” Camila smiles up at the older girl momentarily before returning her attention back to the puppy. “You been giving your mom a hard time?” She asks and Cam just licks her face in response.

“So Dinah told me to tell you that the movie is starting.” Lauren bends down to join Camila in petting Cam.

As if on cue, Dinah yells from the living room. “Camren! We are going to start the movie without you if you don’t get your asses in here!”

Camila chuckles before standing up straight. “You heard the woman.” She playfully rolls her eyes and leads them all out of the room. When they enter the living room, all three of the girls are curled up on the big couch, which leaves Lauren and Camila to sit on the smaller one.

“What are we watching?” Camila sits down on the sofa, tucking her feet underneath her. Lauren sits beside her and Cam opts to lay down by the front of the couch.

“The Notebook.” Normani rolls her eyes.

“Mani! don’t you dare disrespect my movie like that.” Dinah slaps her fiance’s arm.

“We just watch it all the time.” Ally huffs as she takes a bite of her popcorn.

“Shut it, short stacks. This movie never gets old.” Camila shoots back and Ally narrows her eyes at the Latina.

“That’s why we are best friends.” Dinah states and gives Camila an air high five.

During almost the entirety of the movie, the green-eyed girl finds herself watching Camila instead of focusing on Ryan and Rachel. She does turn her attention to the screen when she hears music playing. Her heart warms when she sees the older versions of Allie and Noah slow dancing in the nursing home. The warmness is soon replaced with sadness when Allie forgets who he is again and starts to panic. The older brunette doesn’t even realize she is crying until she feels her tears plummet from her chin to her shirt. Lauren quickly wipes at her wet cheeks and gets up to go to the bathroom.

Camila, too engrossed in the movie, doesn’t notice that she has left until Dinah gets her attention.

“Chanch.” Dinah whispers and Camila pries her eyes away from the movie. It’s then that she notices Lauren isn’t there anymore.

“Where’s Lauren?” She furrows her eyebrows as she scans the room.

“She got up about ten minutes ago and went to the bathroom, but she hasn’t come back.” Dinah points to the back of the apartment and Camila immediately gets up and walks back there. She sees the bathroom door is cracked and so she slowly peeks her head in. Lauren is sitting on the floor watching a video on her phone, tears streaming down her pale cheeks.

“Lo?” Camila slowly pushes the door open and approaches the girl. She takes a seat by her on the floor and frowns when she watches Lauren hastily wipe her tears away. “You okay?”

Lauren nods. “Sorry for leaving. That scene with Allie forgetting Noah got to me.”

“Yeah that’s a sad… oh.” The younger brunette’s eyes widen when she realizes why that particular scene would make Lauren sad.

“I’m sorry I’m such a mess.” The green-eyed girl apologizes and Camila shakes her head immediately.

“No don’t do that. Don’t apologize for how you feel.” Camila whispers as she takes Lauren’s hand in her own and intertwines their fingers. “You’re always comforting me and taking care of me and sometimes I forget that you were affected by my accident almost as much as I was.” Camila gives the hand in hers a light squeeze before turning her attention to the phone in Lauren’s hands. “What were you watching?”

“Just an old video.” Lauren looks down at her phone screen.

“Can I uh see it?” Camila asks hesitantly and Lauren nods. She restarts the video and Camila scoots closer to her, their hands still intertwined. The younger Latina’s eyes light up when she sees herself on the screen. “When was this?” She asks.

“The first night of our honeymoon.” Lauren smiles and plays the video.

Lauren: Camila put the camera away so I can kiss you.

Camila: Lo, it’s our honeymoon. I want to document our first night in Paris.

Lauren: Exactly, it’s the first night of our honeymoon so we should be doing this.

Camila smiles when she watches Lauren lean in and place open mouth kisses on her neck.

Camila: Mmmm well I’ve changed my mind. Instead of videoing us exploring Paris, why don’t we go back to the hotel and I can video me exploring you?

Camila’s cheeks redden as she watches her past self lean in and capture Lauren’s lips in hers. The video cuts off seconds later.

“Well that escalated quickly.” Camila chuckles. “For a second there I thought you were showing me a sex tape, Jauregui.”

Lauren laughs and looks at Camila. “You would like that wouldn’t you?” She nudges the girl’s shoulder playfully.

“You caught me.” Camila sends the green-eyed girl a quick wink and chuckles when Lauren only yawns in return. “Wow is my company that boring?” She smirks and slowly stands up.

Lauren immediately shakes her head. “No, never, just a long night grading art portfolios.” She replies before standing up next to Camila.

“Well lets go and get some sleep, yeah?” Camila suggests and when Lauren nods, she leads them both into the living room. They walk in to see that the three girls have blown up two queen size air mattresses.

“Camren, we built you a bed. You’re welcome.” Dinah plops down on the air mattress that her fiance and Ally are already occupying.

“Cheech, I have a bed.” Camila raises an eyebrow.

“Well I do too, but this is a sleepover.” Dinah reminds her.

“Okay, okay.” Camila relents and lays down on the mattress. Lauren turns the lamp off before following suit. She smiles when she sees Cam sneak onto the air mattress and lay down at their feet.

“Night, guys.” Camila yawns and all the girls bid her a goodnight before they all fall into a deep slumber.

The next morning, Camila wakes up when she hears someone snapping pictures and letting out of string of “awws.” She flutters her eyes open and they immediately widen when she sees what position she is in. Currently, her face is tucked into Lauren’s neck and her arm is slung over the girl’s waist. She looks down to see that their legs are intertwined and she blushes. Carefully, she untangles her legs from the green-eyed girl’s and slowly removes the girl’s arm from around her. She takes a moment to pet the loyal dog at the foot of the mattress before walking into the kitchen quietly so she doesn’t wake the other three girls.

“That was a cute position you two were in.” Dinah smirks as she stirs her coffee. Camila immediately covers her face and grabs Dinah’s keys from the bar.

“I’m going to uh get breakfast.” Camila points to the door and Dinah just raises an eyebrow.

“Running from our problems are we? Or should I say running from our feelings.” Dinah takes a sip of her coffee and Camila just rolls her eyes. “The heart wants what it wants, Walz.” Camila doesn’t respond, she just walks to the door and exits the apartment.

The sound of the door shutting wakes Lauren and she slowly flutters her eyes open and stretches. A frown makes its way across her features when she realizes the bed is empty. She stands up and walks to the kitchen in search of the Latina.

“Sleep good?” Dinah smirks at the other half of Camren.

“Like a baby.” Lauren suppresses a yawn.

“Mmhmm I’m sure you did.” The Polynesian smirks.

“Where’s Camz?” Lauren looks around the kitchen as she fixes herself a cup of coffee.

“Went out to get breakfast. All that cuddling must have made her quite hungry.” Dinah takes a sip of her coffee to hide her smirk while Lauren chokes on the sip she just took.

“What?” The brunette sets the mug down and Dinah fumbles with her phone before extending it to Lauren. The brunette takes the phone into her hands and smiles at the image on the screen of her cuddling with her favorite girl.

“Cute, huh? You’re welcome for capturing an iconic Camren moment.” Dinah dramatically tosses her hair back and Lauren just shakes her head, a small smile playing at her lips. She sends herself the photo before giving the phone back to it’s owner. “For Christmas, I’ll blow that picture up for you and you can hang it on your wall.”

“An 8x10 will suffice.” Lauren laughs before picking up her coffee and taking another sip. She pulls out her own phone from her pocket and sets the picture as her background.

“It means something, you know.” Dinah speaks up after a couple of moments of silence. “Her head may not remember you, but her heart sure does.”

The Latina just nods. “You know she remembered some of the attack.” Lauren nurses her coffee.

“Yeah she told me.” Dinah answers. “That’s amazing, Laur. It means-”

“She could remember us.” The brunette finishes her thought. “I’m just trying to not get my hopes up.”

“Yeah, I understand.” Dinah offers a sad smile. “Camren will be endgame though. Mark my words.”

“Maybe so.” Lauren smiles as she looks at her new background. “In the meantime, can we have more sleepovers?”

“Duh.” Dinah scoffs, faking annoyance. “I’ll be the official Camren sleepover photographer.”

“You do take good pictures.” Lauren takes another sip of her hot drink.

“Damn right I do.” The Polynesian agrees and Lauren shakes her head at the cocky girl.

“Okay well on that note, I’m going to head back to my place and finish up some grading.” Lauren rinses her cup out and sets it in the sink. “See ya later, Captain.”

“Bye, Ralph.” Dinah waves as Lauren exits the kitchen. Before Lauren leaves the apartment, she walks to Camila’s room and looks for her stationary. When she finds it on her desk, she writes a note.

I had a great time with you last night, Camz. Have a wonderful day! You deserve to.

She lays the note on her floral bedspread and walks out of the apartment, Cam on her heels. As soon as she gets in, she sits down and grades the rest of her portfolios. This time, she does it with a smile on her face and anytime she finds it fading or finds herself getting frustrated, she just presses her home button and the picture of her and Camila cuddling graces her screen.

And like clockwork, her smile returns immediately.
