Saw this running around as a poll on youtube, was curious how different the results would be on tumblr.

Saw someone claim that canon Stephanie Brown has the character arc / development that "fanon [redacted]" has and buddy I hate to break it to you, but Preboot era Stephanie has the character development of a flat tire.

Stephanie starts out as a decently rounded supporting character who acts as a foil & peer to first Tim and then Cass. She's abrasive, pushy, and impulsive, which works for the narrative role she's in. She has some interesting moments of minor growth and glimpses of potential for more that unfortunately don't really go anywhere.

Then she gets screwed over by editorial's desire for grimdark edginess, dies, turns out not to be dead, and comes back having learned absolutely nothing from her mistakes (including, frankly, the mistake of thinking Bruce Wayne knows what he's doing).

Her following solo title insults other women characters to prop her up, acts like her past mistakes which got people killed are just a minor whoopsie that doesn't need to be addressed, and by the end of the run she's in the exact same narrative place she started.

I suspect if Stephanie hadn't died, or even if she'd died in a different way, she'd have continued to be a decently rounded character. Maybe she wouldn't have learned from her mistakes, but she'd have been allowed to be wrong. Maybe some of those glimpses of potential growth would have finally been followed up!

As-is, it feels like once she came back, DC didn't want to let the narrative criticize her at all, in case they be accused of victim blaming.

Which makes for a very flat character.

Hating that old design

But yes absolutely I can! It’ll all be under the cut because I’ve got a LOT to say about the design and lore of the swords

To start with the thought behind my original design was that the tattoos would disappear when the swords were summoned meaning that the tattoos weren’t just tattoo but the actual swords. A cool concept but my execution was NOT it and it’s just not my vibe.

I went back after that first design and looked through everything we know about the All-Blades for my redesign and this is all the information we get.

The blades are mystical and made of copper

Designed to kill magical beings and cannot harm anything else

Can only be summoned in the presence of absolute evil

Are powered by the wielder’s soul and blood

Can be summoned at will

Multiple swords and blades can be summoned depending on how much soul the wielder has

Some of this I liked, such as being powered by the user’s life essence, and some not so much, like only being summoned in ‘Absolute Evil’. Boringgggg and also limiting. So I made my own lore for a new design.

I wanted to lean heavy into the soul and blood aspect so the tattoos are a deep red brown like dried blood, and wrap around both wrists and his left arm in organic flowing lines. There are points on his finger, wrist, and chest that are highlighted with a little circle target design and those are actually acupuncture points that link directly back to the heart.

The only inorganic element are the solid bars that wrap around both wrists and they’re to represent the fact that the Blades are tied to Jason and him to them. They’re quite literally cuffs he cannot remove.

The cross guards are copper and the stone used as the pommel is a Bloodstone, also known as Heliotrope, which aside from being pretty are said to increase courage and motivation and benefit endurance along with physical strength.

My own lore of the Blades is this:

The All-Blades are powered by his soul and blood [and can be directly pulled from his own blood] though summoning too frequently will leave Jason weak and light headed as the blades draw the copper from his blood.

The blade portion of the sword is a solid manifestation of his soul [similar to Lantern constructs] and are warm to the touch. Depending on how much ‘soul’ he’s got, the sharper the blades will be.

Both the Blades and tattoos will glow when used or Jason is using magic, and hum and pulse softly to the rhythm of his heartbeat.

The Blades are able to harm magical and non-magical beings alike, though cannot harm Jason.

They can be ‘broken’ and will disappear when shattered. This hurts Jason and, depending on the severity, can manifest as a physical wound on his body.

It takes concentration and magical energy for him to maintain the Blades in physical form for extended periods of time and will get smaller as his energy tires out before disappearing.

He only has two Blades, they can change shape, design, and size and can be summoned together or individually.

titans did a lot but I gotta give them credit for casting and portraying the babiest red hood Jason possible. if comics canon (what is that) has him as an 18-19 y/o when he hits the streets as Hood, titans nailed exactly what that coulda looked like and by gum it hits

Since I saw Tom, the headcanon of him being a Gwent child was born in my head.

- Black hair (Trent)

- Teal eyes (since it's greenish-blue color, i will say Trent)

- Color scheme (Gwen) (it's even pointed out on wiki)

- Personality (i will say mostly Trent, but i see some parts of Gwen)

- I also liked to think that one of the reasons why he puts on the mask is so his parents won't recognize him (since he knows that they had a bad experience with the survival shows and won't like to see him in one)

The only thing that ruins the headcanon is that Tom is 27, and if we assume that Disventure Camp season 1 begins in 2020-2023 and Total Drama in 2007, that will be impossible to him being their child. But I still like this hc, and the face reveal made it even stronger.

i spent the weekend binging the only season there is of 2019’s swamp thing and, gosh, it was so made for me that i couldn’t stop being sad that it was it cancelled and how perfect would it be if guillermo del toro, certified monster lover, ever got a hold of the story and made a movie (or revived the tv show, idc). i feel like if there was a second season, they would have gone really there, y’know?

i mean, look at this poster season 1! it was made to attract people like me!

I'm serious when I say; you can tell with comics, whether it be the book or any sort of adaptation (though ESPECIALLY with film and TV adaptations), you know whose a fan and who is doing this to check off a box for the next thing or because they think everything needs to be edgy.

And the work severely suffers when it's the latter and it's draining at this point.
