i love how dynamic your art is so a question to pick your brain. do you ever see poses while doing something else and think "oh this is such a __________ pose I need to draw it as that character" like whenever I watch a period drama with the viennese waltz (think of the 2012 anna karenina or the live action cinderella) I think that's such a brutalia thing to do. or do you think "I need to draw jason let me go find a pose" and just scroll for hours until you find something? like how do you decide what would look good?
It honestly depends on the day!
I do have a folder of saved references I stumble across that I like or think I’ll use from movies and shows and other comics and whatnot. My Brutalia drawing is lifted from a scene of Morticia and Gomez Addams dancing and my TwoWillis one was inspired from a couple moments in the movie Rope (1948).
Usually though the idea starts with a vibe and from there I try to work out a pose I think would fit. I rarely go in knowing exactly what I’m gonna end up drawing and I find it’s easier for me to think out a drawing while actually drawing. From there I either work out a reference pose from muscle memory or hunt one down or even take some of my own to fit my needs.
I do reference heavily though because despite being an artist, I actually really struggle to picture things on my head, so I rely on references to be able to get a visual going for what I want.
(You’ll notice it’s usually hands lmao)
