I really hate the idea that certain groups "only exist online"

when it comes to... Basically anything. Like, no, actually, you're wrong. I've met people with neopronouns irl, I've met therians irl, I've met systems and fictives irl, all manner of people who are considered to purely exist in online communities by the unaware,

People who fit into niche and misunderstood "online" communities do exist in real life. They are out there, we are out there. It's just that you aren't looking. Because you don't care to look because your close-minded view of the world filters out anything that might be considered abnormal to you. Because you can't see past the end of your nose.

I cannot fathom how boring the lives of people who think like this are, that they only ever encounter people who fit in the same neat boxes, to the point where when they see people identifying or presenting in a way they aren't used to online they just assume that "oh these people only exist online". It doesn't work like that, it never has.

someone please tell me when we're going to move past that rancid online trend where every time someone says "I actually don't like makeup or the pressure society puts on women to wear it" at least ten people will immediately say something like "but I! love makeup! and therefore I think it's misogynistic of you to say that!!" I'm glad you like it. I'm not saying people don't like it, and quite frankly I am tired of y'all coming into my inbox on anon to willfully misunderstand me.

What I am saying is that people don't care enough about it to comment or do anything that requires any effort to interact with it. That's why I stopped writing in the first place.

Honestly, Anon, I used to be a lot gentler about this when I was younger but the simple fact is I don't owe anyone my understanding or gentle patience. You either care enough about what I write to to actually comment, or you don't.

Fanfic has the same problem. Readers in general seem to not understand that the effort we put in to what we create needs something to fuel it. If no one likes it or cares enough about it to comment or actually interact, then continuing is hard. I've gotten to the point where I write to please myself, but I'm done making excuses for the people that say they like my stuff but are too shy to comment. It's the internet, you don't have to see me or talk to me or have any kind of human interaction to leave a comment.

And so my opinion stands. You either care enough about what I do to leave a comment, or you don't care enough to push past whatever is stopping you and you don't leave a comment. You can like something and still not care enough to do anything about it. And thats' where everyone seems to be.
