Studio execs love plausible sentence generators because they have a workflow that looks exactly like a writer-exec dynamic, only without any eye-rolling at the stupid “notes” the exec gives the writer.
All an exec wants is to bark out “Hey, nerd, make me another E.T., except make the hero a dog, and set it on Mars.” After the writer faithfully produces this script, the exec can say, “OK, put put a love interest in the second act, and give me a big gunfight at the climax,” and the writer dutifully makes the changes.
This is exactly how prompting an LLM works.
A writer and a studio exec are lost in the desert, dying of thirst.
Just as they are about to perish, they come upon an oasis, with a cool sparkling pool of water.
The writer drops to their knees and thanks the fates for saving their lives.
But then, the studio exec unzips his pants, pulls out his cock and starts pissing in the water.
“What the fuck are you doing?” the writer demands.
“Don’t worry,” the exec says, “I’m making it better.”

I don’t normally comment about booktube here. But I’ve just seen a video and I have to get some comments off my chest.
This video was about e-readers. And while the person has a huge collection of books behind them, goes on to explain that e-readers are so unnecessary, cause they are expensive. And if you are going to buy an e-reader, just buy an iPad cause they are similar in price….
I’m sorry but in what world is an iPad and an e-reader the same price?? (Or yk other tablets of a similar nature).
This person goes on to talk about how e-readers can’t install apps like Libby etc…are we just going to ignore the e-readers that run on android?? That function like a regular phone just with an e-ink screen??
I honestly gave up watching this video cause this person just sounded like they were pretty single minded on the topic. So here’s my two cents.
Pro’s for an ereader: (at least in my case)
1. E-reader’s are amazing for portability. Physical books can get very heavy, and although I love them, I hate taking physical books out with me cause I’m terrified of damaging them.
2. Books in my country, are incredibly expensive. You can go to the bookstore, and end up spending $50 AUD and get 1-2 books depending on what you get. Hard covers are usually $40+! Paperbacks can range between $17-$40 also. And if it doesn’t get printed in Australia?? Good luck. The only way I could get Hunting Adeline was to pay $65. Because whenever I ordered it from Amazon at $35, from America, it would come absolutely obliterated because they don’t package it in anything but a basic plastic mailer bag. No protection at all.
3. E-readers are much better for your eyes and don’t have constant distracting notifications and people trying to ring you. I have weak eye muscles. Always have. I wear glasses for this. And I used to read on my phone cause it’s what I have with me while I was out. But once I got an e-reader, I realised just how bad my eye strain was from my phone. E-readers have seriously improved my reading stamina especially since mine has the orange light feature. It’s not like we all don’t have an internet or phone addiction anyway. At least according to statistics I’ve seen in the past. Majority of us are trying to spend less time on our phones and more time doing what we love. And e-readers absolutely help with that. (Much better for my ADHD too honestly.)
4. I live with roommates, I have very limited space. So big book collections is just not something that’s possible for me. I’d love to, but again, space and money.
5. E-readers have given me the opportunity to read books that I’d never be able to get. Because of space reasons, money reasons, and the fact that Australia just does not get the wide selection of books that other countries do. We miss out so much. Some books, we have to wait YEARS for, while everyone else gets them on release dates. My e-reader has been such a huge investment for me, as well as an opportunity maker to give me the option to read books I’d never be able to get other wise.
I will clarify this by saying yes, I do have an iPad. But that was a gift. I didn’t buy it for myself. My mother very graciously bought it for me with her inheritance money. She went out of her way to make sure I had a good working device for university. That iPad was over $2,000 aud. My e-reader?? $250!!! HUGE price difference. And it has helped me save so much money in the process. Cause if I read the ebook, and don’t like it, that’s okay, refund. If I do??? Then I can absolutely go out and hopefully track down a physical copy. If that’s not possible?? I still have the digital version. That I can enjoy over and over.
No, I’m not ignoring the cons to do with DRM, and companies censoring ebooks, not at all. But I feel like either way there is still more pros then what this person was giving e-readers credit for. She sounded privileged honestly, she may not have a use for e-readers. But to be saying that you don’t need one, and that they are completely unnecessary….its just incorrect.
I haven’t even touched on how e-readers help others with disabilities to be able to access books. I have a friend for example that has been very unwell for many years now. And because of this, she has fatigue and strength issues. She at one stage could barely hold a book. But once she got her kindle, she was so over joyed cause she could finally enjoy books again. Kindles are so light, they have stands etc. It honestly reminds me of the people that say audiobooks arnt counted as reading and you shouldn’t do it. Sure, let’s just alienate all the people that can’t read or have vision impairment right? (For clarity, I’m being sarcastic.) Or how about all the cultures that past on the culture, history, legends etc all by word of mouth?? For centuries, way before anyone invented written script. But that’s a whole other tangent I can go off about later.
If e-readers arnt for you, that’s totally fine. But to say no one has a need for them, because physical books exist, is just closed minded. Just because you have the privilege of a huge book library and may not have use of an e-reader, doesn’t not mean that other people don’t have a great use for them.
Anyway, that’s my rant. I don’t like ranting online. But this just frustrated me so much. No hate to this person personally, I just think they weren’t open to the possibilities of how these devices are used and fulfil needs for other people that live differently.
If you read this, cool! I hope you have a good day. And enjoy reading what you are currently 💝

Do you know what is happening with Kindle?
Unless something else has happened, Amazon is removing the option for readers to download Amazon ebooks to their computer on February 26. What this essentially means is that you won't be able to "keep" your files in any way. Beforehand, readers could sideload these copies onto their kindles and keep the file on their computers (with the potential to de-DRM them or move them onto different e-readers via side-loading). Now, users will only be able to send their books to Kindle online.
What this does is make it easier for Amazon to remove the file from your kindle if it's connected to wifi. If they sent it there, they can take it back. And to be clear, you NEVER owned the books you paid for from Amazon. You merely kept a license, which Amazon could always take back. It's all in the fine print, they're just being more explicit about it now.
To be clear, The B'ezos is Orange's bitch, Amazon doesn't see itself as a bookseller, and books and programs like KU are actually often profit losers for them (which is to say, they're not as incentivized to protect books for money as people think). I don't think they'll hesitate to bend the knee if an official ban on certain ebooks happen, and I don't think they'll even need a ban enacted for them to continue to arbitrarily remove books from the platform and make explicit books harder to find even when they're on the platform (this is called soft-censoring, and it's an easier way to make these books harder to distribute and gradually kill them off by making them less profitable for writers and publishers).
I have a kindle, and essentially the one thing it does that is more challenging on other e-reading devices (though not impossible) is enable me to read NetGalley files. NetGalley has recently made it borderline-impossible for Kobo users to do that, though you can still read these files on your phone and android devices (though on every device BUT the kindle, the book eventually leaves your possession). I'm weaning myself off Amazon, and once my kindle is toast I'll definitely be investing in a different device, most likely a Kobo or Boox.
But the best way to hold on to books you really love is to buy hard copies.

I looked up the official instructions or how to access DRM protected eBooks I legally purchased on my device via the legal official DRM compliant methods and where those methods exist at all, it is literally easier to just remove the DRM. The DRM does literally nothing except create a worse experience for compliant paying customers.
You know what's even easier than both of these things? Just pirating the books without paying. So why will people pay for the worse service?

Apparently, before network effective is released, tour.com did a promotion where they gave away free ebook copies of the first four murderbot books, I don't know if they were just giving them away to everyone or what, but apparently they didn't even have DRMs on them. So they give away all of these books for free because they knew it would mean that people would buy the next one to come out.
And they didn't even put DRMs on these ebooks to prevent people from you know mass reproducing them?
But somehow people want to claim that the internet archive, which lends out a single copy of books they own one at a time is somehow stealing from authors, but Tor literally giving away DRM-free ebooks somehow isn't.
Also the fact that this just proves that publishers literally know that if people get a chance to read something for free and know they'll like it they're going to buy the next one. Which libraries have proven over and over and over again. Of which the internet archive is included.
So it's somehow stealing for the internet archive to own books which they let people borrow one at a time, but it's simultaneously not stealing for tour to give away the first four books in the series for free as ebooks without even DRM protection

Technically, it's not legal, as the DCMA unfortunately prohibits circumventing DRM even for personal backups, which haven't been granted an exemption by the Librarian of Congress. (Some things like jailbreaking phones have been granted this exemption.)
However, it's absolutely 100% ethical to back up media you bought.
No grey area whatsoever, unlike most piracy.
Which, I know this can be a kind of unpopular thing to say, but while sales of media are bound up with big unethical corporations and systems…media sales and rentals are also the way that all the creative people and laborers who make the shows and movies and music and books get paid.
(It's a bad system, and we should work to change it, but it's still the system that currently pays the bills for the people who make things.)
I do want to mention another tool to help you keep media you have purchased: Calibre, which is free and open source ebook library software.
There are also plugins (and tutorials on how to use these plugins) that will help you strip the DRM from Kindle, Kobo, and even many Adobe Digital Editions-protected books.
I used this when I switched from Kindle to Kobo to keep the books in my Kindle library, and then I used Calibre to convert them from MOBI to EPUB so the Kobo could read them.
you guys know you can get USB connectable CD, dvd, and blu-ray players right. and you can buy external hard drives with crazy amounts of space for an amount of money that would make the average person from 2009’s head explode bc of how cheap it is. and if you do this and get ripping software such as handbrake for CDs and DVDs and makeMKV for blurays you can both own a physical copy of whatever media you want and make it accessible to yourself no matter where you are. do you guys know this

That means that for a work to be eligible for copyright in the USA, it must satisfy three criteria:
1. It must be creative. Copyright does not apply to non-creative works (say, a phone book listing everyone in a town in alphabetical order), even if the work required a lot of labor. Copyright does not protect effort, it protects creativity. You can spend your whole life making a phone book and get no copyright, but the haiku you toss off in ten seconds while drunk gets copyright’s full protection. 2. It must be tangible. Copyright only applies to creative works that are “fixed in a tangible medium.” A dance isn’t copyrightable, but a video of someone dancing is, as is a written description of the dance in choreographers’ notation. A singer can’t copyright the act of singing, but they can copyright the recording of the song. 3. It must be of human authorship. Only humans are eligible for copyright. A beehive’s combs may be beautiful, but they can’t be copyrighted. An elephant’s paintings may be creative, but they can’t be copyrighted. A monkey’s selfie may be iconic, but it can’t be copyrighted.
The works an algorithm generates —be they still images, audio recordings, text, or videos — cannot be copyrighted.
For creative workers, this is huge. Our bosses, like all bosses, relish the thought of firing us all and making us homeless. You will never love anything as much as your boss hates paying you. That’s why the most rampant form of theft in America is wage theft. Just the thought of firing workers and replacing them with chatbots is enough to invoke dangerous, persistent priapism in the boardrooms of corporate America.

Anti-Counterfeiting Measures in the Digital Age: Securing Intellectual Property Online
In the digital age, intellectual property (IP) has become a key asset for businesses across the globe. From software and digital media to trademarks and patents, protecting IP online is more crucial than ever. The rise of e-commerce, digital distribution, and social media platforms has made it easier than ever for counterfeiters to infringe upon IP. As a result, companies must employ a range of anti-counterfeiting measures to safeguard their digital assets and maintain their competitive edge.
This blog explores the importance of securing intellectual property in the digital age and highlights key anti-counterfeiting measures that can help businesses protect their creations, brands, and innovations.
Why Anti-Counterfeiting Measures Are Essential in the Digital Age
With the global economy becoming increasingly digitized, intellectual property theft has grown exponentially. Counterfeiters now have access to sophisticated tools, enabling them to replicate digital products with remarkable precision. In industries such as entertainment, software development, fashion, pharmaceuticals, and electronics, the consequences of IP theft can be severe.
Counterfeiting in the digital realm isn’t limited to the illegal reproduction of products; it can also involve the unauthorized use of brands, logos, domain names, or digital content like music, videos, and software. This not only hurts revenue but also damages the brand’s reputation, reduces trust, and can lead to legal challenges.
To stay ahead of these threats, businesses must integrate robust anti-counterfeiting measures into their digital strategy, ensuring that their intellectual property is well-protected across various online channels.
1. Watermarking and Digital Fingerprints
One of the simplest and most effective ways to protect digital content is through watermarking or adding digital fingerprints to the files. Watermarks are unique identifiers that are embedded into digital media, such as images, videos, or documents. These marks are invisible to the naked eye but can be tracked and identified by the owner.
Watermarking not only deters counterfeiters but also allows businesses to trace stolen content and prove ownership. This is especially valuable in industries like photography, music, film, and digital publishing. Digital fingerprints, which are similar but more complex, can embed unique information into a file that identifies its origin, preventing unauthorized redistribution or reproduction.
2. Digital Rights Management (DRM) Systems
Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a set of technologies used to control the use, modification, and distribution of digital content. DRM tools help protect various types of intellectual property, such as eBooks, software, music, and movies, from piracy and unauthorized use.
DRM systems allow businesses to enforce licensing agreements, restrict copying or sharing of content, and ensure that digital products are only accessed by authorized users. For example, streaming services like Netflix and Spotify use DRM to control access to movies, TV shows, and music. Implementing DRM is essential for any company that relies on digital distribution to protect revenue streams and prevent piracy.
3. Blockchain for Authenticity and Traceability
Blockchain technology, best known for its role in cryptocurrency, has a growing role in anti-counterfeiting efforts. Blockchain offers an immutable, transparent ledger that can be used to track and authenticate products from the point of creation to final sale.
For intellectual property, blockchain can serve as a digital certificate of authenticity, providing an unalterable record of ownership and transaction history. This is especially useful for industries like luxury goods, fine art, and collectibles, where provenance and authenticity are key to maintaining value.
By embedding IP data (such as patents, designs, or trademarks) into blockchain, businesses can create a digital record that proves the legitimacy of their products, making it virtually impossible for counterfeiters to replicate them without leaving a trace.
4. Automated Content Monitoring
With the rapid expansion of e-commerce and user-generated content platforms, manually monitoring the internet for counterfeit products or stolen content is no longer feasible. To combat this, businesses are increasingly turning to automated content monitoring tools.
These tools use web crawlers, image recognition, and AI-powered algorithms to scan online platforms for instances of counterfeit products or intellectual property violations. Tools like Google Image Search, Tineye, and Copyscape can help businesses identify if their content is being used without permission, whether on social media, third-party websites, or marketplaces like eBay or Amazon.
For a more comprehensive approach, businesses can use specialized anti-counterfeiting services that provide real-time alerts and take automated action to remove infringing content or block counterfeit listings. This approach significantly reduces the time and effort needed for IP protection and allows businesses to focus on more strategic tasks.
5. Secure Online Marketplaces and Digital Platforms
For businesses that sell products online, one of the most effective ways to combat counterfeiting is to partner with platforms that actively combat the sale of counterfeit goods. Popular online marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba have introduced anti-counterfeit programs to protect sellers and brands.
These programs typically include tools for monitoring listings, reporting counterfeit goods, and removing infringing content. In addition, companies can use verified vendor statuses, brand registry programs, or trusted seller verification features to protect their products and ensure that their digital content is only sold through legitimate channels.
For digital goods and services, platforms can integrate built-in security measures like two-factor authentication (2FA), encrypted payment gateways, and secure file delivery systems to protect both customers and IP owners from fraudulent transactions.
6. Educating Customers and Stakeholders
Educating customers and stakeholders about the risks associated with counterfeiting is a crucial element of any anti-counterfeiting strategy. Businesses should invest in raising awareness about the dangers of counterfeit products, including poor quality, security risks, and the potential for financial loss.
Encourage customers to buy from trusted, authorized sellers and educate them on how to recognize genuine products. This can include providing verification tools (like QR codes or mobile apps) that allow customers to authenticate their purchase before buying. By creating a well-informed customer base, businesses can reduce the demand for counterfeit products and foster a culture of authenticity.
7. Legal Protection and Enforcement
Despite the best technological measures, counterfeiting will always remain a threat, so businesses must also ensure they have strong legal protection in place. Intellectual property laws vary by region, but businesses should ensure that their patents, trademarks, and copyrights are registered and enforced according to local laws.
Additionally, companies must be prepared to take legal action against counterfeiters when necessary. This could involve sending cease-and-desist letters, pursuing civil litigation, or working with law enforcement agencies to remove counterfeit goods from the market. The combination of technological and legal protection offers the most robust defense against counterfeiting.
Conclusion
In the digital age, intellectual property is one of the most valuable assets a business can possess, but it also faces new and evolving threats. Anti-counterfeiting measures, such as watermarking, DRM, blockchain, and automated monitoring, are crucial for protecting IP from infringement and ensuring that businesses can maintain control over their creations.
By adopting a multi-layered approach that combines technology, education, and legal action, businesses can effectively secure their intellectual property online, ensuring that their innovations remain protected in the ever-evolving digital landscape. As counterfeiting techniques continue to grow more sophisticated, businesses must stay proactive in adopting and updating their anti-counterfeiting strategies to safeguard their brand and assets.

you ever removed DRM from something like iTunes? yeah... just did that with a manga so i could translate it... but somehow there were even more steps...
Bought a manga ebook from an online retailer I'm unfamiliar with, in a language I'm not too familiar with. Learned what does and doesn't count as a valid Japanese address and phone number. Bought the manga on one site and then had to link my account to its sibling site that handles the viewing aspect of it.
Like most commercial ebooks, it's DRM protected, so I stumbled around looking for an up-to-date guide specifically tailored for this particular website. Guide worked up to about halfway, then it was just me alone on the high seas.
Turned out I had to download a pointless App for reading it* (because DRM). I reasoned that the manga files technically had to be somewhere on the disk to be able to read them offline in the app, so I used WizFile to find the most recently added files on my PC (it's a very handy program for obscure things like finding recently-installed viruses). Files were of course encrypted.
Following the guide, I installed two decrypting plugins for Calibre and thankfully they worked like magic! Open source contributors are the glue holding this world together.
Spent like 4 hours on this, but at last I've got it. Hooray! Lesbian comedy manga will now be translated in high quality.
*Even video game artbooks do this now. Atlus's recent artbooks and soundtracks (P3R, Metaphor) are each in their own dedicated fullscreen apps. Even though the soundtracks are on streaming services and I'm sure people immediately screen-grabbed the artbook pages to upload online.

Developed by Ryuichi Moriya, a Japanese engineer in 1983, the main focus of DRM or Digital Rights Management is to restrict access to digital contents whether it is for viewing or copying. However, there is a solution to this issue in the public domain in the form of Tuneskit iBook for Mac. The main functions of this software tool include removing DRM from Apple iBook ePub files, copy DRM iBooks to DRM free ePub files, support iTunes 12.3 and Mac OS X 10.11 and retain all types of meta information such as cover, author, dates, and publisher. The website also offers a trial version for the visitors who want to check the efficiency of the tool before purchasing it for their use. Bypass DRM Protection From iBook EPub Files iBooks remains an amazing app for reading eBooks, however, if this book retains DRM protection, you can read this book only on different iOS devices such as iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and even then, that device must be authorized with iTunes ID under which you have purchased this eBook. Further, you cannot read it on any other device or share it with your friends. After you purchase an eBook, it is your right to read it with any device or share it with your friends. This software tool enables you to gain your right as it bypasses DRM protection from iBook ePub Files and offers you full right related to your copy of the book. Copy The iBook EPub Files With 100% Lossless Quality Retained When you purchase a print book, you retain all types of rights related to that copy, but it is not the case with iBook you purchase from different publishers, websites, and authors. Almost all copies that are purchased can be accessed only through limited devices and software and cannot be considered as fair for the customers, who cannot even copy these books on their PCs that has cost them the big amount. The owners of software have realized these facts and have provided an advanced feature that can remove DRM and copy the files with 0% loss of quality. Copy iBook EBooks To Read On Any E-Reader When a reader purchases a book from any source, the chances are that they are DRM protected and cannot be copied and transferred to any other device or read from any other e-reader software. This feature makes it a difficult proposition for the reader and limits his options if he does not have the required brand or device. It also limits his access to digital content and renders his efforts useless, if the required book is not available for consultation during his or her project. However, now with this software tool, the process has become easier for readers who do not possess Mac or any Apple product. All they need to do is to purchase a book from I store and then copy iBook eBooks for reading on any e-Reader after removing DRM through this software tool. Work At 30X Faster Speed In Stripping Off iBook DRM Protection There are many software tools in the market that enable the readers to remove DRM protection of iBook, however, most of them are offer cumbersome process, take a lot of time and even then, the quality of the book is suspect. However, one of the innovative features offered by this software tool is the flawless quality of the book and the speed of its works. When compared with other software tools, this tool functions at 30X faster speed in stripping off iBook DRM protection. Updated On June 2019: Fixed Broken links and updated minor typos.

depends on what, specifically, you’re trying to extract and from where; some things are very easy, some more complicated. this is true even within the same category of thing (for example it’s super easy to remove drm from kindle books using an older (<1.26, most guides will rec 1.17) version of kindle for pc + calibre, but nnnot apple books).
for ebooks try r/calibre and for anything else r/piracy is a good place to start. generally a search for “remove drm [x]” where [x] is the thing you want to liberate (like “kindle ebook” or “itunes album”) will usually get you pointed in the right direction.
be careful with downloading any software that purports to remove drm; some is legitimate and this is where r/piracy is a good resource to get a sense for if this or that program is trustworthy.
some recs ->
yt-dlp won’t decrypt drm-protected content but i have to shout it out because it’s really good for literally anything else; if you can stream it and it’s not encrypted yt-dlp will download it, and it can do it in bulk, very fast. if you’re comfortable using the command line interface it’s a must-have. (crunchy-cli is also nice for crunchyroll and i think a bit more intuitive/“entry level”)
calibre + noDRM plug-in for kindle books
steam auto cracker mod for steam games
tunefab works well for music (not free) (not difficult to find a cracked copy tho)

Writing an eBook: The Importance of Research and Organization for a Captivating Narrative
1. Do eBooks expire?
eBooks generally do not "expire" in the traditional sense associated with physical media; however, there are specific conditions and circumstances that can limit their accessibility for users. A significant factor influencing the accessibility of eBooks is the presence of digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. Many eBooks, especially those obtained through libraries or subscription-based services, are subject to these DRM protocols, which are designed to protect the copyright and intellectual property of authors and publishers. As a result, these eBooks may only be available for a predetermined lending period, after which access can be revoked. Users may find that once the lending period has expired, they are no longer able to open or read the title, necessitating a renewal or a new purchase. Furthermore, the longevity of access to eBooks can be jeopardized by the operational status of the platforms through which they were purchased or accessed. If a vendor or service provider ceases operations, alters its business model, or modifies its policies regarding content access, users may face unexpected disruptions in their ability to access purchased eBooks. It is, therefore, crucial for consumers to thoroughly review and understand the terms of service associated with their eBook acquisitions. Awareness of these terms can help mitigate potential issues related to access, ensuring that readers remain informed about their rights and the conditions under which their eBook content is made available. By being proactive and informed, users can better protect their investment in digital literature and maintain continuous access to their favourite titles.
2. What is a good length for an eBook?
Determining the optimal length for an eBook is a nuanced process that relies heavily on its intended purpose and the characteristics of its target audience. A typical eBook falls within the range of 20,000 to 50,000 words, which strikes a balance between providing a comprehensive exploration of the subject matter while maintaining reader engagement. This length allows authors to delve into details, present well-structured arguments, and support their claims with relevant examples or data. Conversely, shorter eBooks, typically ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 words, can serve effectively for niche topics or quick-reference guides, allowing readers to grasp essential information without wading through excessive content. In contrast, eBooks that extend beyond 50,000 words may be better suited for in-depth analyses, detailed case studies, or comprehensive manuals, catering to readers who seek a deep dive into the subject. Ultimately, the crux of successful eBook writing lies in the ability to deliver engaging and informative content, irrespective of its length. Authors should focus on addressing the specific needs and preferences of their audience, ensuring that each word contributes to the overall value of the text. This means prioritizing clarity, relevance, and practical application of the information presented. By doing so, writers can create a compelling eBook that resonates with readers, fosters a deeper understanding of the topic, and enhances the overall reading experience. Regardless of the chosen length, the goal remains the same: to provide readers with a meaningful and rewarding journey through the material, ultimately reinforcing their interest and encouraging further exploration of the subject.
3. Is writing an eBook easy?
Determining the optimal length for an eBook is a nuanced process that relies heavily on its intended purpose and the characteristics of its target audience. A typical eBook falls within the range of 20,000 to 50,000 words, which strikes a balance between providing a comprehensive exploration of the subject matter while maintaining reader engagement. This length allows authors to delve into details, present well-structured arguments, and support their claims with relevant examples or data. 4. Why eBooks are cheaper?
eBooks have emerged as a cost-effective alternative to traditional print books, primarily due to several key factors that significantly reduce their overall production and distribution costs. One of the most notable advantages of eBooks is the elimination of expenses associated with physical materials such as paper and ink. In contrast to print books, which require substantial resources for manufacturing, eBooks can be created and distributed entirely in digital format. This shift not only removes the need for physical storage and warehousing but also streamlines the supply chain, allowing publishers to bypass costly logistics related to shipping and handling. Consequently, the reduction in these overhead costs translates into lower prices for consumers, making eBooks an appealing option for those who are budget conscious. Moreover, the digital landscape presents unique opportunities for publishers to adapt and innovate their offerings. With eBooks, publishers can update and modify content with remarkable ease and speed, allowing for timely revisions and the incorporation of new information without the need for an entirely new print run. This flexibility not only enhances the reader’s experience but also contributes to cost savings over time, as the need for reprinting and redistributing physical copies is diminished. Additionally, the competitive nature of the digital marketplace fosters an environment where publishers are incentivized to implement pricing strategies that attract consumers, further driving down the cost of eBooks. As a result, these factors collectively underscore the growing popularity of eBooks, positioning them as a financially savvy choice for readers seeking quality literature without the premium price tag often associated with print editions.
5. Are eBooks better than paper?
The debate surrounding the superiority of eBooks over traditional paper books is a multifaceted issue that encompasses several significant factors, including convenience, accessibility, and environmental impact. One of the most compelling advantages of eBooks is their extraordinary portability; readers can carry an entire library within a single electronic device. This feature is particularly advantageous for those who travel frequently or commute daily, as it eliminates the bulk and weight associated with physical books. Furthermore, eBooks offer customizable reading experiences through adjustable font sizes, background colors, and integrated tools like built-in dictionaries and translation features. These capabilities cater to a diverse range of audiences, including individuals with visual impairments or those learning new languages, thereby enhancing overall accessibility and inclusivity in reading. Conversely, traditional paper books provide a tactile experience that many readers find irreplaceable. The physical sensation of turning pages and the unique smell of paper can evoke nostalgia and a sense of comfort that digital formats often lack. Additionally, studies have indicated that reading from paper can lead to less eye strain compared to screens, as well as improved retention and comprehension of information. For many, the act of reading a paper book is not just about the content but also about the sensory experience associated with it. Ultimately, the preference between eBooks and paper books is highly subjective and depends on individual needs, lifestyle choices, and reading habits. While eBooks offer convenience and versatility, paper books represent a cherished tradition that continues to hold immense value for many readers. Both formats contribute uniquely to the literary landscape, underscoring the importance of accommodating diverse reading preferences.

I have stumbled onto a project promising to grant buyers "real ownership" of their e-books called book.io
From their website:
"Currently when you buy an eBook or Audiobook, you do not own it – you only bought a license to view it. And it’s stuck forever on that retailer’s platform. You can never give it away or sell it. Readers deserve to truly own the digital goods they purchase."
Rant about DRM, Crypto shitcoin bullshit and crypto evangelists inability to understand what owning a thing means under the read more.
Which is true, I agree with the sentiment, but their solution is blockchain theology, and encrypted nfts. I have listened to two interviews with a dev and then with one of the founders so I could understand how their business works. Unsurprisingly they are talking about it as "the future of publishing". The underlying technology might be impressive, but I didn't care much about the details, besides getting the gist of it.
In order to "own your copy", you have to go to a coin exchange to buy your funny money, then you have to have a wallet browser extension to facilitate the exchange of shitcoin so you can get your "NFT book". This is the method recommended by their own FAQ .Every title has a limited amounts of "unique copies" you can mint, (there was talk about having unlimited mints, because even they realize , that having a limited amount of eBooks is counter intuitive to the whole idea of having eBooks.) Most of their catalogue so far are works in the public domain, you can download for free from project Gutenberg and like half a dozen authors I have never heard about, and after seeing their names, will never care about. The site was launched in 2020, I think. Great catalogue, I bet people who prefer eBooks and who have never bought an NFT will just swarm the site for it.
As far as I was able to tell, the price is higher than what you would pay for a book on any vendor website (in some chases twice as much) . Most importantly (this was the point where I was feeling the veins in my brain popping ) You can only read your books in your browser or on the book.io phone app. The website specifies, that this is an anonymous reading app. What makes it so, who knows, but don't worry nobody will spy on you, while you open your very unique copy of Peter Pan, I guess. I would rather open my books in my very anonymous Calibre library on my very private personal computer, but thanks.
Functionally this is no different from Amazon's or Adobe's product, but special web 3 encryption DRM bullshit this time. (The founder called it DRM)
The reason, the very tool which with big vendors like Amazon Apple and Google wish to lock you into their ecosystem is the fucking DRM. I only own a file if it sits in my storage that I own, and can be moved and opened whenever and however I want it to open. If anything breaks in the chain that connects me to the content hosted on the IPFS server, they graciously provide an encryption key for, I loose my file the same way people lost their purchases when Microsoft closed up their e-book store. In other words , I do not fucking own it.
I have already own all of my e-books, I do not have one thing in my possession that has DRM on it. Some publishers/authors do not treat their readers as criminals, and put the books up for sale without it. It is unfortunate that this is not the standard practice in the industry. The rest I had to wrangle the "protection" off myself.
There is of course the usual bullshit with "collectible AI generated covers" and "reselling your purchase" thing going on, but they are a different topic, and are not connected to the topic at hand.
In any chase why are these people obsessed with the reseal value of every stuff they own. They fundamentally do not understand why people buy books, or most consumer products.
#bookblr#readblr#writeblr#crypto#blockchain#I am still mad after two days#I am even madder after watching the two interviews#thanks for reading if you did so

6 Reasons Why You Need DRM Protected eBook

The digital revolution has altered the publishing industry. eBooks are slowly becoming the first choice of publishers and authors. While the digital publishing industry is flourishing, there is a constant threat of online piracy. Digital Rights Management (DRM) protected eBook is a plausible solution to protect IP.According to a recent report, 17% of eBooks read in the UK are pirated. Shockingly, in Russia, 92% of eBooks are downloaded illegally. Publishers and authors must consider a
DRM protected eBook
to restrict piracy and duplication.Listed below are the Top 6 Reasons Why You Need to have DRM Protected eBooks.
1. DRM is an Additional Layer of Protection over your eBooks:
Though there are multiple protection measures publishers and authors take before publishing their eBooks on online platforms, DRM acts as an additional level of protection. DRM prevents copying or duplication of the content, in any form. Hence, it protects eBook from online piracy and unauthorized sharing and safeguards its Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
2. DRM helps in Safeguarding Revenue:
Publishers and authors expect revenues by selling eBooks on different platforms. Piracy impacts the overall revenue structure and costs them substantially. A Nielsen consumer survey commissioned by Digimarc Corporation revealed that eBook piracy costs $315 million to the U.S. publishers, each year. This is a major concern and needs to curbed through strong action.DRM protected eBooks make illegal sharing of eBooks impossible. Only those with the digital key can access the eBook. Without the key, readers will not be able to open the eBook. Thus, interested readers must purchase the eBook, which eventually will reduce piracy and will consequently improve revenues.
3. Increased RoI:
Publishing digital books is a cost-effective way as compared to printing physical books. Furthermore, there is an instant delivery of eBooks to the international audience. Distribution of DRM protected eBooks will increase the return on investment (RoI). Publishers and authors will get paid for each purchase and will get significant returns.
4. IPR Control:
With DRM protected eBooks, publishers can control who can view the eBook and who can’t. DRM defines the lifecycle by letting you select the expiry date of the eBook. This means, your reader won’t be able to view the eBook after the expiry date. This additional feature makes it essential to have a DRM protected eBook.
5. Preventing IPR Theft:
Publishers can prevent IPR theft with DRM. DRM lets you monitor who has viewed the ebook. Furthermore, they can know if someone has tried to pass on the access to someone else. This lets publishers take immediate action and prevent any sort of theft.
6. Regulatory Compliance:
Digital world requires compliance with multiple international regulatory guidelines. Along with this, one must ensure the confidentiality of the data. With the implementation of DRM, sensitive information, such as personal information or important documents, are safe. Additionally, the distribution of these information can be done safely without any loss of control.
Conclusion:
In the digital world where duplication and illegal transfer of information are quite prominent, DRM protected eBook restricts any unauthorised action. It secures eBooks and provides access to only those who have purchased them. Download our ‘
