This is not cringe this is actually lovely

gonna be cringe for a sec, but writing gay star trek fanfiction feels like such a big deal to me. here i am, participating in a tradition dating back to the 60s. a tradition thats shaped millions of real lives and changed the way we engage with media forever.

the invention of fanfiction has resulted in friendships and marriages, people moving across the planet to meet likeminded individuals. the fabric of our world changed because of how hard people loved star trek, a show that very nearly did not happen.

i've never cared for my own family history or tradition very much, but feeling connected to those first fanfic writers through my own fic writing is so bizarrely wonderful.

i hope we keep writing gay star trek fanfiction long after we make our own trek through the stars.

In the TNG episode “Force of Nature”, Data asks Geordi for cat-training advice. Geordi mentions that his sister trained her cat by putting tuna in her blouse to get it to jump into her arms. Now I’m picturing Data in his quarters wearing a pretty women’s blouse with tuna in it being like “Spot. I have put the tuna in my blouse. Please comply.” I need it bro

My composition got a little spread out and I feel like I could have kept it a lot tighter and more true to the original, but I'm VERY happy with it overall. I totally made up Data's insides as I went along because there isn't a lot of info on his guts, and the one image I did find didn't have any lungs, which I find hard to believe since he breathes a lot. Is there any practical purpose for his lungs to glow blue? No, but he canonically has blinking lights inside his head so i figured I might as well do whatever I want <3
