This is why I will never leave this site. Idk if Tumblr is “social media” or a micro-blogging site or all two and more in a trench coat, but Jesus compared to every other darkpatterned Skinner box app I have, this one will serve me new and intriguing fucking cogent literary analysis and I think that is beautiful actually.
OP makes good points! Idk how much you can separate the Soldier from the Masculinity for Macbeth because they are both endemic to his sense of self—and any time your ego is on the line you tend to react hella irrationally✨—but I also agree that so many readings of Macbeth read it all through a gendered masculine lens and leave some of the discussion of the Soldiering and that aspect of Macbeth on the table by comparison.
Which is NEAT, because if you want to talk about kings and soldiers you’re also talking about CLASS baby! Macbeth didn’t grow up royalty, he didn’t grow up insulated from the way wars were actually fought (and certainly in some ways actual kings of the time period weren’t as far from the blood and mud as we might think, but they sure were the wealthy, powerful land-owners!) he grew up fighting them! As a titled lord sure, but not at the top of the heap either. Macbeth had to work, and his job was killing. And it warped his sense of self and how he views the world and solves problems.
macbeth really is such a fascinating guy because when he's thinking about doing the murder he actually sits with himself for a second and goes "if i do this, i'm signing over my immortal soul, and i'm probably going to be miserable with guilt" and then he does it and is miserable with guilt. and it makes him very very interesting! because it's not an impulse thing! he knows! so what makes a person make that choice? what amount of personal ambition, what lust for glory, what amount of wifely-pressure-fueled conception-of-masculinity-as-violence can get someone to do that?
because it isn't idiocy. he knows damn well. and none of his asides, none of his elaborate visually-fantastical speeches or deft metaphors, are the words of a blundering dumbass. personally, i think the core of macbeth is exactly what we find out before he ever steps on stage: he's a soldier, and more than that, he;s a killer. and he's extremely good at it. fuck diplomacy--basically every single problem he faces in the play is one he tries to kill his way out of, because it's the only strategy he knows. at some point, i don't even think it's just manhood-as-violence for him; it's personhood-as-violence. in 3.1 he threatens to get into the lists against fate, against the price of his own defiled soul; at the end, he resolves to go down fighting no matter what. as much as people love to joke about macbeth being foolhardy and easily-pressured and not looking more than five minutes into the future--the guy knows. but all he's ever done, all he can do, is fight. he's not a fool. he's a machine.
but also, fascination aside, what the fuck is wrong with him lmfao my guy you KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN

I recommend LinkedIn, as it’s a great professional networking platform for jobs and business. But also LinkedIn has its flaws, especially since it was taken over by Microsoft: LinkedIn ‘0 Activity’ but prompts to ‘Show all activity’. While the statement “This person hasn’t posted yet” with the added explanation: “Recent post this person shares will be displayed here.” should be enough…

Newly created account so I can test a feature, and I am already filled with despair. Why in Cthulhu's name is following topics mandatory? Worse, why in Azathoth's name is following PEOPLE mandatory AND limited to only the people Tumblr wants to promote? Did they decide to diguise the skip button as a cross-site monitoring bug so my security software blocked it? Did they hide it?

#Music #Musicindustry #Blockchain #Token #Datenschutz #Gamification #darkpatterns #addiction #Gesellschaft

How Websites Use 'Dark Patterns' to Trick You Online

You're just about to check out with your online purchases when you realize that some item — perhaps an accessory, insurance or an extended warranty — has been slipped into your shopping cart. Turns out, you had to uncheck a specific box to dodge these sneaky charges. These sneaky insertions are known as 'dark patterns'. You were lucky enough to spot this bit of trickery. However, inattentive or rushed buyers might totally miss the extra charge. And that's exactly the idea. This is just one example of what's called "dark pattern web design." These are user interfaces and website designs meant to trick you into doing something you didn't really mean to do, such as spend more money, share personal data or subscribe to an annoying newsletter that you really don't want. Often, you'll find these dark patterns on shopping sites. And the more popular the site, the more likely it is that the site's designers use a dark pattern of one type or another, according to a 2019 Princeton University study. Case in point: Google recently altered the way search results appear. The idea is to make it harder for users to figure out what's an ad and what is a legitimate source of information. And every time you accidentally click an ad? Google makes more money. Social media? Packed with dark patterns. Want to delete your Facebook account? The company makes the process convoluted and sometimes even guilts you into changing your mind, saying your friends will "miss you." The Read the full article
