#Darlington playlists

As the Darlington-Duplanchiers leave New Orleans behind, it is time for us to say farewell to the sounds of the city as well. This new decade takes us away from New Orleans Jazz, with its lively piano and trumpet players, into a blend of folk, country, and blues evocative of the American West. These songs are not intended to be accurate to the 1930s; rather, they all convey a mood reminiscent of the open American landscape and wistful longing for one’s home and loved ones.

Overall the music reflects not only the changing backdrop of this new decade, but a shift in the lifestyle of our characters as they leave behind the bustling streets and wild parties of the 1920s. However, the family’s years in New Orleans run even throughout this playlist, with lyrics and sounds that continue to harken back to their memories even in a new genre of music.

As usual, it is in no particular order, so feel free to put it on shuffle and get in the mood for our journey out West. 🏜️🪕

recently finished reading ninth house and hell bent by leigh bardugo and yk I had to make a playlist.

a bunch of songs that remind me of alex, darlington, dawes, etc or they just fit the eerie and mysterious vibe of ninth house.

though in my mind fade into you by mazzy star, is alex and darlington's unofficial official song...

Hello Darlings….

While I have been releasing playlists to accompany the start of each decade, I also wanted to assemble one at the end as a look back at the musical vibes we heard along the way.

The playlists released at the start of the decade will always be centered around a similar tone with reoccurring themes and insights into the upcoming plot lines. They’re meant to impart an overall mood, and are usually shorter since I try to curate them carefully. However, the playlists at the end of the decade will be a collection of the musical vibes that accompanied scenes along the way. Songs are assembled in order of their appearance and don’t have have an overarching theme or vibe the way the start of decade playlists do. Think of it as a chance to feel a little nostalgic if you, like me, would like to look back on decades gone by ☺️

Tsh ASMR when?

I think it should be illegal that nobody made (maybe like 2 people, but they don't count) ever made The secret history ASMR. Or even If we were villains one. For as much as we talk about our favourite dark academia novels and analyse it back and forth there are very few people or almost none who actually thought "Hey maybe someone would enjoy discussing Homer with Henry Winter or drinking with Francis Abernethy or Charles Maculay." I would 100 %. Or if anything give me James Farrow. Give me Darlington. "Kill me" with Robin from Babel. Think about the possibilities. Because if I were to listen to one more dark academia with librarian or relaxing rainy dark academia- soft speaking literally some nonsense in my ear? As much as I enjoy these, I'd rather jump from cliff myself rather than to watch anyone made any more of these (even though they are the easiest to make). Don't get me started on DA playlists on Yt. Keep those for Spotify, please.

This is unironically long rant but pls don't mind me. I am teaching my very first class tomorrow as a student teacher, and I feel unprepared even though I have activities for those kids so writing is my stress relief (again)
