Working on my javascript for my web page. Turns out I have the perfect kind of setup to accomplish some of the project requirements, specifically with even handlers and user interactions

My website, conceptually, will load a different employee details page depending on what employee name is clicked on. But I need to load it dynamically (instead of hard-coding it) so that the user can add or delete employees & it'll be able to still load the relevant shit.

So! Only one employee details page, but depending on how it's loaded, it'll load a different employee's information. Still working on getting down Exactly how to do it (I'm thinking using URL parameters that'll read a different object depending on what ID is used)

It's entirely doable. In fact, it's probably extremely common to do in web pages. No one wants to hard-code information for every new object. Of course not. And thus the usefulness of dynamic javascript stuff.

I can do this. I can very much do this.

This Is A Jenna D’Sora Callout Post

Most of you won’t know her by name, but this is the despicable ensign who briefly dated Data in the season 4 episode “In Theory”. I hate this woman. She fills me with a rage so intense I can’t even describe it—but that won’t stop me from trying!

Background: D’Sora, after leaving a relationship with an emotionally unavailable boyfriend, decided to try a relationship with Data because they had similar interests and enjoyed spending time together. The relationship fell apart when D’Sora told Data that he, by virtue of being an android, is even more emotionally unavailable than her ex, and they break up.

Thesis: Data was the most authentic and attentive partner anyone could ever ask for, and D’Sora is an idiot.

Evidence:

1. D’Sora routinely disrupts and changes their plans, doesn’t communicate her own needs, and flat out lies* to Data multiple times in the episode. In fact, she disrupts his personal time in order to start one of their dates early, denies that’s why she showed up, and then when he accepts her denial as the truth and goes back to what he’s doing, she gets upset. What is up with that?!??

(*lie is probably a strong word to anyone who knows what I’m talking about—the thing in relationships where someone says something like “oh no I’m not mad” when they are or “oh we don’t have to do that” when they specifically do want to do that. It’s some kind of mind reading game you’re supposed to master to prove that you love your partner because expecting honesty and explicit communication goes against the rules of romance, apparently.)

2. Data not only pursues the relationship despite having no experience in romantic intimacy, he writes himself an entire program to help him perform romantic behaviors. Sure the code wasn’t perfect, but it was a massive effort and also a work in progress! I guarantee Data built other intimacy programs in the past (friendship at the minimum) that he spent a lot of time working bugs out of, but he didn’t have to write a romance code—he did it explicitly for her!!

3. She gets upset when she asks Data what he was thinking about when they were kissing and his first thought wasn’t her. I get why that could be seen as a sign he doesn’t care, but as a person with a partner whom I kiss with regularity, sometimes you’ve got other shit on your mind! It’s not that you don’t care or don’t want to kiss them, it’s that mushing mouths together really doesn’t take up that much brain power and if you’re doing it for any length of time you’re gonna think about other stuff! If that’s true for humans, imagine how it must be for an android built to do literally hundreds, THOUSANDS, of calculations all at the same time. That’s not a sign he’s emotionally unavailable, that’s just how his brain works!!

Conclusion: there’s actually a bunch more I could say on the point of Data having emotions that we as humans just can’t understand, and everyone’s emotional needs are different. However! Data was not the failing partner in their romantic venture, it was 100% D’Sora, who has a 20th century attitude toward romance in the 24th century future (yeah I know the writers are from the 20th century, that’s no excuse) and the fact that she walked away from it implying that Data wasn’t enough for a human romantic partnership is a crock. If given an opportunity to make out with Data I’d do it, and I wouldn’t be a coward about it

actually, because of that secret secret i just read, i’m going to post this thought before i forget about it, actually — for the last few days i’ve been turning over the idea of dan heng x reader where the reader, a chef or at least competent cook, joins the express and works as chef to save everybody from himeko’s… creative dinner plans (inspired by the recent event)… and there’s something about the effortless, easy confidence with which you navigate the kitchen which dan heng admires. it’s an art form of its own, really.

(plus, as i mentioned, everyone loves you because you’re there to step in and lend some guidance when himeko decides it’s her turn to cook…..)

Behind F1's Velvet Curtain

This article by Kate Wagner on her INEOS sponsored trip to the Austin GP at COTA last year was commissioned by Road and Track magazine and then taken down. Presumably because Kate has was pretty staunch in her opinions about what was essentially a paid trip.

It is exactly the kind of thing I have wanted to read about the felt experience of the money business of F1. It doesn't get into technicalities and does not produce any spreadsheets for reference. It's just, her experience of the presence of wealth in the sport.

She starts off by talking about how she has been covering cycling and NASCAR for a while now and both of those, in comparison, are scrappier sports with smaller sponsors and cheaper tickets.

What I also especially loved was how fascinated she was with the cars themselves, and how they seem like a true marvel of human engineering. She almost described the cars like these alien beasts that came into this dimension out of nowhere and were being constantly monitored and dueled with to furnish wins and glory (and shareholder value for sponsors).

I think I always had an understanding of the weird myth making surrounding F1 and the kind of media attention it attracts, but someone like Kate (who I have loved reading for a while now) putting it into perspective really made it click for me. This sport thrives off of the kind of cocoon it has built around it and understands exactly the certain exclusiveness it needs to maintain to keep the story alive.

Anyway, give it a read, especially because Road and Track is trying to bury it to not piss off sponsors.

Peak academic comedy is when you get to anonymously peer review the lab report of the guy who's been constantly passive aggressive to you and your friend because you're the only two non-dudebros in your lab section, and his report is written entirely in comic sans.

(Disclaimer: yes, I am aware that there are some definite benefits to the comic sans font. HOWEVER, it's very easy to write a report in comic sans and then change the font to the syllabus-mandated times new roman before submitting it.)

I was Going to work on some more nugget stuff but then my game got all fucked up and I had to replace a file I hadn't even touched and now I'm having to replace all the equipment I lost by doing so which I don't technically have to do since I have to reason to keep my guys properly equipped since I beat the game already but I Want to and also if I don't I will inevitably forget what they're supposed to wear and then I'll cry and scream
