Dazai doesn't say 'I love you'. Not directly at least.

He says it in baked goods from the bakery near the detective agency.

He says it through linking pinkies with you as you walk along the river canals and once again when you have to drag him out of bars by his coat after he's attempted to ask the poor bartender for a glass of bleach.

He says it by keeping you closer to his body when he finally falls asleep in the latest of night and the tulips he tucks behind your ear when you come into the office early in the morning.

In secretive smiles and dragging you by the wrist to whatever mission he's landed himself next.

and most fondly when you hide in the narrowest closets the agency has to offer and Kunikida comes looking to scold you both.

Ranpo always points him in the opposite direction with a bit of bribery from both of you (aka soda)

Dazai doesn't say 'I love you' directly, so you'll have to help him out a bit.

"Belladonna you should have seen it-"

"I love you."

He stops, momentarily startled.

'Must've hallucinated' Dazai thought, his lips quirking up.

He laughs quietly to himself, mouth opening to speak again but you place you palm over his lips.

"No, I know you heard me say it."

He can't ignore you now. His hand brushes your fingers away from his face only to properly interlock them together with his while he looks down, his hair brushing over his eyes and pink dusting his cheeks.

"You're cute bella-"

"Don't deflect."

He sighs.

"I can't even properly confess my love to you without being interrupted." huffing childishly, his thumbs ghost over your tightening knuckles and a smirk overtakes his features.

It's finally time.

You're nervous but he's been waiting for you to confess first anyways.

"I love you too."

Now it's your turn to be surprised, your breath stutters as he looks up, his eyes shining with mirth.

Its gonna be so worth it when Kunikida yells at him for kissing you during work hours.
