Dean shows affection by asking you if you need a little money for the motel vending machine.

He shows it by asking you to come with on pointless drives, just because the weather is nice.

By remembering what you get from the corner store.

By making you mixtapes and showing you old movies.

By ordering you your own pizza when you aren’t feeling his usual.

By sitting in the room while you fix your hair.

He shows affection by pissing you off, lifting your foot with his when you go to take a step, eating the leftovers you’ve been thinking about all day.

He shows it with tenderness, detangling your hair and scratching itches you can’t reach when your shoulder’s dislocated.

With a random bundle of flowers that look strangely like the ones you had mentioned looked nice in someone’s landscaping.

With handing you the first piece of bacon off the griddle.

With showing up when you need him.

imagining (post-Cas being saved from the Empty) Cas in bed in his own room at the bunker. Things are quieter now. There's not a new apocalypse threatening all of humanity every couple of months. It's different. Him and Dean are different too. How can they not be? They're still best friends, even with the knowledge he's deeply in love with Dean being out in the open now. But it's still good because he gets to have a life here, with the Winchesters. Watching over them. Watching over Dean. He's reading a book, sitting up in bed. A very human habit he's formed he thinks when there's a light knock on his door. It's Dean and somethings... off. Immediately he knows Dean must have had a nightmare. He has those more times than not and on those nights, they'll have a drink in the kitchen. Often continuing to the Dean Cave before Dean falls asleep during some movie he insists Cas must watch.

This is not what happens tonight. Dean asks if he can stay the night here, if Cas will watch over him. He of course says yes because it's an honor to stand guard over the most beautiful soul in all of creation. Dean climbs into his bed and Cas is taken by surprise when Dean buries his head into Cas' hip. It's somehow more surprising when Dean throws his arm around him and asks, "Is this okay?"

It is. It's more than okay. Cas puts one arm around Dean and continues reading his book. This is different, they've never done this before. But it's a good different.

it would make dean fucking furious, but i actually love the idea that jack sometimes calls sam "sammy" and that sam lets him. he's the only one besides dean that doesn't get "it's sam"

jack is always watching dean, and while part of that is search for dean's approval, the rest is because it teaches him how to interpret and be loved by sam

he calls him sammy when he's scared, or worried, or even relieved (seeing sam after lucifer brought him back would definitely elicit a sammy)

dean says it and it's sammy (protected)

jack says it and it's sammy (protector)

i also think he's seen dean and sam hug each other, sees how sam scrunches himself up so dean can still get his arms over his shoulders and folds beneath his brother. and when sam hugs jack, he hugs him sort of like dean hugs him, like how jack thinks dean used to hug sam twenty years ago

being enveloped, sam hunching over to keep him tucked into him, and for a moment jack feels like nothing can get to him

You know, you see the "Dean admires Sam's intellect, which is funny because I admire Jared's intellect" bit of this often (understandable very sweet) buut you don't often see the rest of what he said just before that . . . I wonder why . . .

Something about Dean calling Cas in endearing nicknames like "Babe", "Angel", "Sweetheart", "Sunshine", "Baby", "Blue eyes". Meanwhile Cas just calls him by his name 'Dean' in such a revered way as if he is worshipping god, as if he is giving out his utmost devotion to the man standing next to him, as if Dean is the answer to all his prayers, as if Dean is the only remedy to this baneful existence, as if Dean is the only word to be chanted in the sacred temple.

hi I started thinking about samstiel and now it’s infecting my brain. something about the angel being shipped with the boy with the demon blood scratches my brain so incredibly good that I created a god awful love triangle concept:

samstiel except it’s unrequited, bitter, doomed love. sam is in love with cas but he knows that cas will always pick dean over him. dean can tell his brother is hopelessly in love with cas and has no idea cas is, in turn, hopelessly in love with him. this is a disaster triangle. they are all STUPID (said with the utmost love)

all i can think about right now is younger sam with a fever who’s been crying from the pain all day and dean has just finally gotten him to sleep. his arm is wrapped around sam and he places the most delicate kisses to the back of his neck and blows lightly to make it less hot for his little brother. he’s got sam’s hair pulled up and as soon as he wakes up he’ll rub ice cubes on his back. their dad is out at the store half drunk after dean berated him for refusing to take sam to the doctor..so he agreed to go get medicine and dean settled. he only wants the best for his baby brother
