We got lines from Cas in 12x19 about not wanting to cause Dean DISTRESS and needing a WIN. Then, in the vision, there was this scene that represents all of that. In the deepest part of Cas, he desires Dean's happiness & peacefulness. For himself, he longs to be strong enough to protect him and be appreciated as angelic protector.

Cas's WIN for Dean -> relief, happiness, appreciation; and for himself -> full-strength, powerful, competence, capability

When demon Dean overhears a familiar voice at the karaoke bar he's taken a liking too, his blood starts to boil. Is this the moment Sam and Cas have been waiting for to get Dean back to normal?

In the dimly lit corners of a bustling bar, demon Dean Winchester’s eyes glinted with a dangerous hue as he watched his girlfriend laugh with another man. The green-eyed monster of jealousy reared its ugly head, and a low growl escaped Dean’s lips. Unbeknownst to him, this was all part of a well-orchestrated plan.

Sam and Cas, hidden in the shadows, exchanged a knowing glance. The stranger was a friend, a decoy, luring Dean into the open. As Dean’s jealousy reached its peak, he stormed towards them, his demonic nature on full display. But before he could reach the pair, Sam and Cas sprang their trap.

A whirlwind of action ensued, and in the chaos, Dean was subdued. The next thing he knew, he was in the bunker, strapped to the chair that signified hope and salvation. Sam’s voice, laced with brotherly concern, broke through the haze, “Dean, we’re going to cure you. You’re going to be okay.”

His voice is whisked away into the wind as the blades on the windmill slowly turn. Dean hates this place. It’s the second time he’s come here to say goodbye to Cas, but this time gnaws and rips at Dean’s heart. This time, Dean doesn’t have Cas’ ashes. He wasn’t left with anything from Cas except a black inky stain slashed into his heart where Cas’ confession bleeds into Dean’s bloodstream. Instead, Dean folds up an old trenchcoat he’d kept in the Impala, one that smells of Cas and has a new mixtape with Dean’s own confession spelled out in songs tucked into the pocket, and buries it in a shallow grave in the ground. He can’t say the words, but he doesn’t need to. It wouldn’t change anything now, anyway. Dean turns his back, and walks away; leaving his heart buried in the ground with the trenchcoat.

Cas lets out a breathy laugh, chasing Dean’s kisses with just as much fervor and tenderness, making Dean’s heart race with affection. Dean drops kisses down Cas’ jawline and nuzzles his nose into Cas’ throat. His fingers tangle into the old, worn cotton of the Zepplin tshirt that Cas had stolen from him months ago, and he both feels and sees the way Cas gets this fond look on his face as he presses their foreheads together. He can’t say the words, but he doesn’t need to. It wouldn’t change anything now, anyway. Dean turns his back and tugs Cas with him until they’re tangled together. Cas presses his chest against Dean’s spine and wraps. his arms around Dean’s waist, settling his hand softly over Dean’s heart; a heart that beats with an overwhelming love for the angel he gets to call his.

Supernatural was so so so so so funny in how they were like: "Dean is such a ladies man, only boobs boobs boobs" and then they would give him a love interest in season 6 and never again.

BUT they'd have him make Cas a mixtape.

And grieve Cas like a heartbroken widower.

And then have him be happy for the first time all season once Cas returns to him (even though his mother'd still be missing).

And they'd have Dean stop with the hook-ups completely. And instead they'd have Dean make Cas watch movies together.

And have date nights.

And they'd have Dean on his knees confessing.

And the last person who'd confess his love to Dean would be a gay angel.

But Supernatural was so so so so so funny they'd be like: this means nothing.

i do want my empty rescue i'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition full circle moment however. i do think it would be funny if my caspala crack theory were real djskfd like dean gets to heaven and starts driving and then cas's voice comes in thru the radio and yea jack got him out of the empty but something....is not right with him...(my it's really jack, but chuck is secretly there too / it's actually the god-power corrupting jack flavor of the chuck won theory) and so cas is hiding out in baby (possessing the car) bc jack-chuck wants to keep them apart since dean + cas have always been the ones to foil his plans, the ones that weren't supposed to be part of the story together etc etc. so cas is like whispering to dean abt all this with urgency (and very conveniently avoiding the confession) and dean (who still is nervous as heck to acknowledge all that and still trying to work out his own doubts and hangups bc what if he messes this all up with cas???) follows cas's lead and is relieved to not have to confront all of that right this minute. so they go for a drive.

and cas tells dean what he's learned so far in heaven helping 'jack' rebuild things. and he tells dean where to find the portal to the multiverse and about these 'fail safes' chuck left around that jack refuses to meddle with (and that's one of the things tipping cas off that jack is not truly jack. because jack would not just sit back and let all the worlds including their own get destroyed after they fought so hard to save everyone!!!) and so dean and cas(pala) decide to take on this hunt together and they go universe hopping and they find this one last earth universe w/ a version of dean's parents that he can save and they do that !!! and when dean gets stuck in the akrida queen's portal he sends cas(pala) through to help them defeat the queen. and then cas keeps mary safe as she takes down the queen<3 and dean drives them back through the portal.

then "jack" intercepts bobby in heaven and finds out where dean has gone (still does not know abt caspala) and goes to wrangle dean back to heaven. and then they get back to heaven and "jack" tells dean to stop meddling and stay put, drive around, take in the sights, go visit your real parents. so dean gets back into baby and starts driving to lull "jack" into a false sense of security but yea, after seeing jack again in person he's convinced something is not right. so he and cas drive on, and it's quiet for a long stretch of road. a tape starts to play though dean hasn't put one in and he realizes it's his mixtape to cas that cas is playing through baby's speakers. and dean grins all soft and goofy and lovesick. because now he's had the time to process some things, and the time to heal a bit via his AU parents' stories and finding hope there.

so they drive somewhere quiet with a nice view and dean pulls over and says, "hey buddy (affectionate) there's uh, there's some stuff we gotta talk about." and the speakers crackle with static. "you kinda left me hanging back there...i didn't really get a chance to...well, there's just something i need to say. something i've wanted to say for a long time."

and, even though it's risky, even though "jack" may be watching, cas appears in the passenger's seat. and dean looks up (still beautiful, still dean winchester) and he smiles softly and finally, finally says, "i love you too, cas. of course i love you." and cas's eyes get big a teary and dean desperately gets up in his space, slides across the seat and pulls him into a nose-breaking kiss<3 and then of course they get to the whole saving their kid part of the story and busting out of heaven forreals!

dean has his oh moment in a grocery store and frantically texts sam about it while cowering in the cereal aisle

dean: i love cds

sam: ???? ok?

dean: is that wrong oh my god i seriously cant believe i let this happen

and so dean steels himself and goes back to the cart cas is manning in the produce aisle and he lets himself just feel his emotions, just...be in love with cas. and it feels so good. he steeps in it.

when he and cas eventually finish running all the errands they set out to do, they make it back to the bunker where sam is waiting in the library with a giant smile on his face.

"dean, look what i found!" and shoves a huge book into dean's arms.

dean looks quizically at him and sets it down on the table to open it up. it's a giant cd binder full of everything from burned mixtapes to john denver classics, and he is so confused.

"...what is-"

and sam is like "i found it a while ago in the basement, god knows how it got there, and i just thought you seemed weird about the whole 'cd thing' so i wanted to make sure you knew i think it's cool you're making your way into this century."

and dean is like "dude...tapes are where it's at. i dont know what you're talking about bud."

and sam is pulling up his texts and shoving his phone into dean's face like !! " look! right there!! 'i love cds' !!"

and dean is mortified so he just says "that was a typo." and ignores sam and cas' eyes as they piece it all together.

(they both silently come to the conclusion that he meant to text 'i love cats' and dean confesses his love to cas out of desperation when they surprise him with a kitten later that week)

I know we (myself included) talk about how Dean only gave Cas the mixtape because he figured Cas wouldn't know the implications, and we further expand on that as a place where Cas didn't see Dean's half assed love confessions, so how could he possibly reciprocate

But if I think about it. Like. Really. Think about it. Cas had an entire info dump of pop culture. That wasn't just movies, or even if it was just movies that would include mixtape gifts which were HEAVILY featured in movies.

Maybe it's just canon's refusal of continuity, or maybe. Just maybe.

Cas receives a mixtape. There are songs on it. Dean's handwriting. And Cas knows, peripheral knowledge, the time it takes to do such a thing. Even more since tapes aren't exactly easy to find. Did he record over a tape he already had? Did he buy one, watch it travel from some far off country to a little P.O box?

What does it matter? Not when Dean could never mean it like that. Not when Cas is certain this is just Dean's way of trying to

Well it's even worse. Because Cas tries returning it at first, doesn't he? Oh this is Dean's Mixtape, he says. This belongs to Dean and it is therefore Precious and must be Protected this is Dean's Thing

And then Dean says, "it's a gift," and he says "you keep those." And this isn't Dean's Mixtape it is your Mixtape. Your Mixtape from Dean and of Dean.

What is YOUR favorite post-series headcanon? (I might need some,, inspiration,,, 👀👀👀)

- dean becomes catatonic after cas’ death. (kinda like buffy in s5) maybe even having dissociative amnesia afterwards. it was so traumatic and sam freaked out because dean was just sitting on the ground, still as a rock.

- him and jack decided to enter his mind to try to “wake him up.” they see the confession scene on loop.

- they don’t rescue cas right away. but dean also doesn’t die from the rusty nail. he’s also too careful in hunts now. he doesn’t want cas’ death to be in vain.

- speaking of hunts, he quit after a year. sam and eileen move out of the bunker but dean stays. there’s a part of him that hopes that cas’ ghost may linger.

- he makes a mixtape for every 5th of the month.

- he writes songs sometimes. something about blue eyes and black hair. something about words unspoken.

- he does get that mechanic job. sometimes he would flinch seeing black tar but dean fucking loves it all the same.

- monsters get eradicated completely. dean walks miracle every morning and tried to get used to the lack of a gun strapped to his body.

- sam goes back to law school in california. eileen resumes her social work practice. they come back to the bunker for the holidays.

- jack doesn’t become god. amara assumes that role and lets jack learn more about the world before reigning over it. it’s actually a pretty good arrangement and she dotes on jack so much.

- claire and kaia go to college. kaia slowly but surely encourages claire to get counselling. it took awhile but she does. claire drops out after second year but resumes counselling.

- one day after a grueling day at the repair shop, claire jokes about dean needing therapy. he just smiles and tells her to get back to work.

- dean does. it’s a slow, difficult process but process nonetheless.

- jack tries to get cas back. he tries and tries and tries. every time he couldn’t, it rained for days and days.

- when he does rescue cas, cas goes straight to heaven. he does what he does best; watching over dean.
