Comparison is a trap we all fall into. We look at others and wonder why we’re not where they are, forgetting that everyone’s journey is different. Comparing your beginning to someone else’s middle is like comparing apples to oranges—it’s not fair to yourself. 🍏🍊
Instead of focusing on what others have achieved, concentrate on your own growth. Be comfortable with where you are and work towards where you want to be. Remember, everyone’s path is different, and that’s okay.
Starting on YouTube
My YouTube journey began around 2012, but the channel you see today didn’t really take off until 2014. At that time, I was balancing my military duties with trying to grow a business. My first attempts at YouTube were met with negativity, which led me to delete my channel more than once. But I knew I had to try again. 🎬
In 2014, with just $500 left in my bank account, I invested in a Canon T3i camera. This was my all-in moment—I had no choice but to make it work. I started documenting everything: my meals, workouts, military experiences, and my entrepreneurial journey. Slowly, I began to build a community.
Back then, the social media world was a different place. YouTube, especially in the fitness space, was still new, and I’m grateful I started when I did. It allowed me to grow alongside the platform.
Dealing with Criticism
Criticism is part of the game when you’re a content creator, but it doesn’t have to define you. For a long time, negative comments really bothered me. But then I discovered Casey Neistat, a YouTube vlogger who didn’t care what others thought. He just did his thing, and people loved him for it. 📷
Inspired by Casey, I decided to stop worrying about what others thought and focus on what I enjoyed. Today, I rarely read the comments because they can be toxic. Instead, I focus on creating content that makes me happy and adds value to my audience.
The lesson? Criticism will always be there, but it doesn’t have to control your life. Focus on what you love, and the right people will appreciate it.
