Hello! I feel like it's a strange ask but please is it possible for you or your readers to rec me long fics with m/m but with main focus being fantasy plot where I can scroll through any sex stuff if there's any? I am not a hater or smutpolice or something but life was awfully emotional lately and when I am aroused in this state it brings me to destructive behavior towards myself, but I still want to read! Unfortunately I'd never rec m/m stories where the sex matters so little you can just skip past it (that's kind of against the point for me, and those stories tend to get rated 1-2 stars from me and I forget what they are, lol). And I have read stories where the sex isn't the focus (i.e. there is no sex) but I can't recall those stories since they're not what I look to reread when I'm looking for a comfort read unfortunately.

You might want to check out The Nascent Diplomat which has no sex scenes between the main characters, and the sexual scenes between Augus and Radula Enris can be skipped. It's long and m/m and the focus is fantasy and worldbuilding, and growing non-sexual closeness.

But mostly I'm posting this so others can make recommendations! I know there's stuff out there! I suspect I have fics like this in my bookmarks, but I have over 1000 bookmarks so they're hard to find.

ETA: The anon followed up to say they also can't handle anything with themes around alone-sickness (so presumably no stories that focus on being lonely either, which might make this a lot more difficult to have recs for!)

I have thought about making a "Tumblr Mutuals Discord Server" but I am not sure. I have been in a couple servers like that and they have been nice however I do NOT want the pressure of managing a server like that >_< I am also not sure how well various mutuals would mesh, as there are many of you from many very different circles, and I would hate for there to be issues. HOWEVER I am a very lonely person and would like to keep in touch better with y'all so I am open to suggestions!!

for the q&a: do you have a finished coding project that you're most proud of?

Yes!!! I created a discord bot for my friends' server that would:

a) Call them out if they swear (it's hilarious)

b) Generate random quotes from all our favourite youtubers and streamers

c) Generate stupid quotes that we have said

d) Scream things about cheese

e) Give us a hug, generate comfort stuff when we're sad

f) Put us in jail (XD) if we're being bad

It was such a fun project to do. I do sometimes add/tinker with a few features - like update the quote lists if the youtubers say more stupid things but I'm super proud of the bot! It's become one of us now :D

I used to think I would, because I kind of have weird complex shippy feelings re: Murderbot/ART and also like... I want to do more hurt/comfort with like Murderbot and Gurathin, and Bharadwaj, and Ratthi, but like...

I found my (limited) experience of the fandom very cliquey and just kind of enjoyed my own little headcanon stories on my own, so I don't know if I will? Because I'm also not as obsessed with it as I was about 2 years ago.

But if/when I reread the series I know I'll want to all over again, I might end up just writing some stories for myself, since I only want to write little moments, and nothing really long and complex

I reblogged it earlier but I'm glad the Something Awful Forums 9/11 thread was archived because it's an incredibly important slice of internet history. For the record I think 9/11 was thousands of personal tragedies for the direct victims of the attacks but one big national farce that led to America's ongoing slide into fascism, and the nationalism and remembrance around it is a joke especially in the wake of the same amount of deaths every fucking day in the US during the height of coronavirus.

Nevertheless I think it's important that if you do not remember because you were too young or just didn't exist on Sept 11, 2001 to read the Something Awful 9/11 forums to get an idea of what the internet was like at the moment when America changed to 24 hour news cycles and renewed hyper-nationalism not seen since WWII.

This all happened before Twitter, Facebook, before Discord. Before smart phones. Before most people had cell phones. When a lot of people still had dial-up internet, even. Some people in the thread were relying on radio because internet and TV weren't keeping up.

It was a live event of internet denizens reacting to the biggest national event (and among the biggest international events) of the past 25 years. It was also a slice of what the internet was like at the turn of the millennium. Not only that, but people accurately calling out who was responsible, and what would result before the attacks even finished.

Keep in mind that the links that follow contain images of the event, lots of Islamophobia, people calling for the Middle East to be nuked, people blaming Palestine, casual racist and homophobic language (this was Something Awful after all), etc etc. They preserved the first 17 pages which spanned about 24 hours during the events. It's the origin of the "WATCH BUSH START A FUCKING WAR" screenshot.

Note the thread was preserved in Pacific Time even though the page says times are Eastern. That's incorrect. Post timestamps are 3 hours behind Eastern Time, which is the time zone where the attacks occurred:

Page 15 - Second tower collapses. First acknowledgement of the fourth plane that crashed in PA.

Page 16 - There's an abrupt time jump in the threads, I think it was the result of admins pruning the activity or the SA forums going down. This page starts on 9/12 even though it is page 16. American flag signatures and ribbons start appearing.

THE U.S. GOVERNMENT is frustrated that Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is prioritizing social spending for the benefit of his people over addressing matters that are important to the U.S., according to an excerpt of a leaked top-secret intelligence document. Part of a cache of classified intelligence records that were leaked on the platform Discord earlier this year, the document highlights the growing discontent by U.S. officials toward Mexico’s president, who has significantly limited U.S. law enforcement agencies’ role in the war on drugs.

López Obrador’s 2023 federal budget, presented to the Mexican Congress last fall, does increase funding for social programs, including a significant raise for the pension provided to older Mexicans. It also prioritizes large infrastructure projects, which are mostly concentrated in southern states of the country.

“The crisis of fentanyl is due to the negligence of pharmaceuticals in the U.S.,” said a professor at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics in Mexico City.

The document, from February of this year, is part of a trove of records leaked to a Discord server, allegedly by Jack Douglas Teixeira, a member of the Air National Guard, and posted online by DDoSecrets, a collective that publishes leaked documents. While reporting on the documents has mostly focused on intelligence on the war in Ukraine, some records include U.S. insight into other regions. 

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Drug Enforcement Administration did not respond to requests for comment. 

During his tenure, López Obrador has done away with much of the security collaboration between the U.S. and Mexico — a decadeslong relationship that ramped up in the mid-2000s — by placing stringent limits on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and other U.S. law enforcement agencies operating in Mexico

López Obrador has spent the past five years walking a tightrope: He has had to balance the interests of the U.S., the Mexican business class, and his base — providing concessions to all. Support for López Obrador among Mexicans remains relatively high, with approval ratings at 65 percent, most likely due to the social welfare programs he has introduced. López Obrador’s government has raised the minimum wage and provided cash and food assistance to older Mexicans, as well as scholarships for students nationwide.

Meanwhile, López Obrador’s investment in social programs could also be seen as a way to curb migration, even if the U.S. doesn’t see it that way.

“The impression I have is that for many years, the bilateral cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico prioritized the interests of the U.S. It prioritized that drugs do not reach the U.S.,” said the professor. Yet the U.S. has offered little to address Mexico’s concerns, such as the flow of weapons into the country. “This is called ‘cooperation?’”
