Dock of the bay lyrics
Tumblr media
"(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" was ranked twenty-eighth on Rolling Stone ' s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, the second-highest of four Redding songs on the list, after "Respect " (in this case the version recorded by Aretha Franklin ). Rolling Stone ranked The Dock of the Bay number 161 on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, the third of five Redding albums on the list. In 1999, BMI named the song as the sixth-most performed song of the twentieth century, with about six million performances. It reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was released on Stax Records' Volt label in 1968, becoming the first posthumous single to top the charts in the US. It was recorded by Redding twice in 1967, including once just days before his death in a plane crash. " (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" is a song co-written by soul singer Otis Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper. The challenge songsheet encourages you to learn simple barre chords to enhance your playing and make this song sizzle! In 1999, BMI named the song as the sixth-most performed song of the 20th century.YOU CAN PLAY ALONG WITH THE RECORDING IN GCEA TUNING! I've done up a easy songsheet and a challenge songsheet. It also won two Grammy Awards: Best R&B Song and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. It became Redding's most successful record worldwide, selling over four million copies. The track became the first ever posthumous #1 single in the US. The song topped the US chart in March 1968, and its album Dock of the Bay became his largest-selling so far. '(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay' was released in January 1968, soon after Redding's death. He added the sound of seagulls and waves to the background, as Redding had requested. He was aged just 26.Īfter Redding's death, Cropper mixed finished the song at Stax Studios. On December 10, just days after recording the song, his plane crashed into Lake Monona, outside Madison, Wisconsin. He forgot what it was so he started whistling." Cropper said Redding had "this little fadeout rap he was gonna do, an ad-lib. The song features a whistled tune before fading away. Obviously, the songs melancholy lyrics have something to do with this, with references to leaving home, the 'Frisco Bay' (from where thousands of GIs embarked for Vietnam), 'wastin time' and having '10. Otis Redding didn't think the song was ready, but sadly he never got the chance to finish it in the way he had hoped. From its release on Janutil today, '(Sittin On) The Dock of the Bay' continues to hold innumerable Vietnam vets in its orbit. Otis Redding died soon after recording the song. There had been concerns from his record company that 'Dock of the Bay' was too poppy for an Otis Redding song, and there was talk of gospel act the Staple Singers singing backing vocals. While discussing the song with his wife, Redding stated that was looking to "be a little different", and "change his style". 'Dock of the Bay' was exactly that: 'I left my home in Georgia, headed for the Frisco Bay' was all about him going out to San Francisco to perform." Pitiful', 'Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song)' they were about Otis and Otis' life. "Otis didn't really write about himself but I did. If you listen to the songs I collaborated with Otis, most of the lyrics are about him. "'I watch the ships come in and I watch them roll away again'. The story that I got he was renting boathouse or stayed at a boathouse or something and that's where he got the idea of the ships coming in the bay there. In 1990, Cropper said of the song's creation: "Otis was one of those the kind of guys who had 100 ideas.

Luckily, Lyric was asleep the rest of the trip back. The darkness combined with the comfort of being in the grasp of somebody who cared for them helped ease them into a light slumber. After all, they were tired after an emotional roller coaster of a few hours.
As such, Lyric missed the way the Toy Soldier spent the journey snapping- both figuratively and literally- at anyone who it deemed as having gotten too close. By the time the hauler had docked back on the Aurora, the Toy Soldier had entirely wrapped its body around its two cupped hands, despite not moving an inch otherwise.
They also missed a deep voice, made rough by millennia of smoking, quietly asking the Toy Soldier if it was okay. Even more did they miss how that same voice never spoke up again for the whole journey back after the Toy Soldier refused to respond.
When the doors opened for the final time of the night, those inside were far less eager to leave. One could say such was because no insignificant amount of the occupants were still in the process of regrowing their legs, but any who did say that would be wrong.
All inside could feel it, the sweet end of an adventure. Within the cabin, the last dregs of fear and joy still hung in the air, and none were quite ready to let such a thing go.
Still, whether it be from arguments building annoyance or of their own volition, all of the crew slowly drifted out. All that was savored could not last. Only when the final crew member did leave, with a half-baked threat to turn the docking bay lights off on their way out, did the Toy Soldier finally unfold itself and begin walking again.
It did not bother to look anywhere but its hands as it automatically made its way to its room, for all paths within the Aurora were core deep knowledge to it.
It didn't hesitate in its mission for a second until it clicked open its own door.

my fav lyrics from all hell, as of my first (technically second) listen
in italics are my absolute fav lyrics of the entire album
This is not including the instrumentals as they dont have lyrics (ovbiously) but just know that they were life changing and absolutely magnificent and very very dear to me.
The Coin-Op Guillotine
☆ "Your eyes glazed over while you sat unlistening / you said your head's on fire and every thought is kindling / a tired life is a wild ride for the saddest boy on the waterslide / when the breadcrumbs only lead to where you've been"
☆ "Heart erupts and the pavement splatters / i think i'm right, i don't think it matters"
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞
Holy Smokes (2005)
☆ "Forward, morning after, cleanse your sins inside a dock dry bath tub / between the hunt sabs, ACABs, sobbing, being sick / hearing your name in the chorus left me prostrate in the pit"
☆ "You're the only thought in my head / you're the only thought i've got left in my head"
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞
 A Psychic Wound
☆ "They say put him down, a sickly dog, but competition's healthy / coffee rings, a perfect circle, i appreciate the beauty / do you still have that one tattoo? / that's how it works, of course you do"
☆ "it's a psychic wound you can't conceal / closing, opening, never heals"
☆ "if you're not the one that's leaving, you're the one that's left behind"
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞
I. Spit; or, a Bite Mark in the Shape of the Sunflower State
☆ "I'm sure of this as i'm of you: / spit will mend the bruise"
☆ (basically the whole song. this one was life changing i fear)
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞
Long Throes
☆ "Thought your heart was broken, but it's only yearning"
☆ "Me and my friends are sadists, backbreakers for spineless / wish 'em dead and then we'll put it in a song"
☆ "anxieties and maladies are falling out of love"
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞
Feast of Tongues
☆ "Swear i'd live through all of your nightmares if it meant that i could sleep okay"
☆ "I want the trust of every animal / gonna bay for the blood of those that are hurting ya / when the black cloud comes, if one flame flickers / we will feast on the tongues of the last bootlickers"
☆ "...grab you by the hips and say it's you that i'm grateful for"
☆ "To the tune of a national anthem / of a country that didn't survive / in a language i've learned and forgotten / i'll stay home, keep the garden alive"
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞
The Order of the Seasons
☆ "While the happiness ain't certain, you know heartbreak's guaranteed"
☆ "It's been many years, since i played a high-line / they ask you how you feel, you say "i feel fine" / the order of the seasons depends on when you're born / i start count in winter, and heading for a fall"

☆ "i'm mouth agape arms open wide, not to receive but crucified"
☆ "0898 HEARTACHE / you're calling me a mistake, just call me if you want a bad time / dial 0898 HEARTACHE / if you're calling me's a mistake, then tell me why we're both still on the line?"
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞
Adult Acne Stigmata
☆ "Can you once see what you love / without imagining it gone?"
☆ "You're royal and you're flush / i'm tower, swords, and death"
☆ "Heart swells / you're so beautiful, the sky is blue / but we both know too well / it's all hell"

Ahsoka- Notes on Episode 1 and Kiner’s musical score made by a Sabezra shipper. (You’ve been warned.)
Episode 1 opens with a percussion ensemble and eerie strings. Opening crawl begins. Intense, suspenseful music.
Scene on NR cruiser.
Rescue of Morgan Elsbeth-theme sounds like it has sound effects that suggest a forest(?) or her home planet.
Ahsoka at the Nightsister Temple. Mysterious quiet quotation of Ahsoka’s Theme before she goes beneath the surface. Suspenseful music when she “unlocks” the pillars to obtain the star-map. Intense music for assassin droid battle and escape.
Home One: T-6 1974 (reference to Filoni’s birthday). Hera’s Theme played by the cello during her entrance to the docking bay.
Briefing room: the very beginning of Thrawn’s theme heard softly when he is mentioned. Ezra’s theme is not heard when Ahsoka and Hera talk about him.
Hera: “She’ll do it…for Ezra.” ❤️
Lothal ceremony and Sabine on speeder bike: Rock music w/ lyrics in alien language. Chase scene is reminiscent of Top Gun.
The Tower: Sabine’s Theme is heard when she feeds the loth-cat and we glimpse her Mandalorian helmet under the counter. A quiet rendition of Ezra’s Theme is played by a French horn during the hologram scene. Sabine’s Theme is heard at the very end of that scene when the message ends.
Baylan, Shin, & Morgan scene.
Sabine wakes from a dream about Ezra’s disappearance and says his name softly. She heard Ezra’s voice in the dream saying the last words he said to her in the Rebels finale before he disappeared. 😢
Sabine, Ryder, Huyang, & Ahsoka scene. Ahsoka’s Theme plays after Ryder says to Sabine “You’re gonna want to hear what she has to say.” (I think Ryder is gentle with Sabine because he knows how much she cares about Ezra and how much she misses him.)
Scene in Ahsoka’s ship: Sabine’s Theme plays when she looks at the loth-cat artwork by her old bunk. Ahsoka’s Theme is heard briefly when they sit at the table to talk about the map.
Ahsoka & Huyang scene. Ahsoka discovers Sabine is gone. Sabine smiles on the ride back to the tower because she now has hope.
Shin and assassin droids. Sinister music.
Sabine in the tower with the map.
Ahsoka & Huyang talk to Hera who is present as a hologram. Ahsoka’s Theme quoted when she talks about walking away from the Jedi.
Sabine in the tower with the map. Triquetra design is shown on the floor/ base of the map hologram. “Three faces…?” Sabine wonders aloud. Sabine figures out how to open the map and the music and sound effects remind me of the purrgil while she unlocks it. The music sounds more hopeful when she opens it and when she is on the balcony looking at the night sky. (This same hopeful yearning theme can be heard during the end credits when Eman Esfandi’s name appears onscreen and as the golden line that the camera follows passes through the purrgil.)
Sabine fights assassin droid. She calls Huyang for backup and goes inside to get Ezra’s lightsaber to defend herself. Duel with Shin. Music is louder and more intense as Ahsoka flies to the rescue and Sabine is stabbed.
End credits music: We hear a new introduction to Sabine’s Theme with a repetitive quarter note followed by two eighth notes ostinato. Sabine’s Theme is followed by Ahsoka’s Theme. This is followed by Hera’s Theme (love theme from Rebels), and it ends with a return of Ahsoka’s Theme.
Edit: I just realized something about the music. In the end credits, Sabine’s Theme is presented in the style of a stately Renaissance dance for couples called a pavane. An example: https://youtu.be/WOi5v7tnhPY?si=vBut7Ree4LAs2P8a

can u recommend a sea shantie? i need more sea shanties for the soul
Leave Her Johnny. But specifically the one from Assassin's Creed 4, because the melancholy voices of the choir is just incredible.
Additionally, Hoist Up The Thing by the Longest Johns. This song came out a week before the Akuna docked in Darwin the final time and I disembarked, so I didn't get to hear it while I aboard ship, but the "not knowing how to do anything" joke was exactly me when I was still aboard her, and listening to the song gives me a strong nostalgia for my time at sea when I didn't know how to do anything and had to be taught by the older fellas around me.
Fire and Flame is about the Halifax Disaster, again by the Longest Johns.
Have you noticed a trend of me enjoying this band?
We sang a long of songs on the Akuna, but maybe a quarter I don't know the name of because they were assorted blackfella songs that weren't in English (maybe half the crew was black, including the captain) and I didn't know their lyrics and had to sing by sound.
The Akuna is also where I first heard And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda, which the crew sang for me after they'd learnt I was a drover before I was a linesman. Ernie, her captain, was a Vietnam vet and was a bit emotional when the crew sang it. I learnt this song VERY quickly and would lead the singing of it after.
Speaking of singing, I was asked to sing a lot, since my singing voice is soprano, so I sound like a girl when I sing. And these men have been at sea most of their lives, and we didn't get radio out there, so they liked listening to me sing.
Other songs we sang were Santiana, Off to Sea, Wellerman, Old Maui, Shores of Botany Bay, Bound For South Australia, I Was Only 19, The Wild Colonial Boy, Along the Road to Gundagai, Took the Children Away (some of the blokes aboard were part of the Stolen Generations), Home Among the Gumtrees, Fields of Athenry (which I was encouraged to sing), and Moreton Bay. We went heavy on the bush ballads.
When I sang, it was usually Fields of Athenry, Danny Boy, a LOT of song by Celtic Woman but most were songs from Endless Ocean (the Wii game) because I knew those best, Green Fields of France, etc. I sang a lot of war songs by request, a lot of blackfella songs if I knew the lyrics, a lot of Irish ballads, and a couple of English ones (Scarborough Faire was popular).
My only regret was that I disembarked when I did and didn't spend more time aboard.

I’m curating a playlist on Spotify that’s dedicated to my hometown, Memphis, and I got so excited just now.
So I knew Otis Redding (one of my all-time fave singers) was discovered here (so to speak) and recorded here at Stax Records, but I guess I didn’t know to what extent. Like, so many of my favorite Otis Redding songs were recorded here—I’ve Been Loving You Too Long (To Stop Now), Try A Little Tenderness, Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay, and These Arms of Mine…just to name a few. 🖤
I’ve been to Graceland and toured Sun Records (where Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis all were discovered and recorded), but I’ve never been to Stax Records and done the tour there. I really need to. I also need to visit the Rock & Soul Museum, which is here too.
Sometimes, despite our issues here, I love being from Memphis. We have such a musical history and culture. I feel like that’s why I have such a love from deep in my soul for this music—the old Soul/Blues/50s & 60s rock. It’s in my DNA. 🎵
And we have the BEST BBQ IN THE COUNTRY. Fight me, you’ll lose. 😂
Ok, enough rambling about Memphis.
Love ya, sis. 🖤🍒🎵
Wow! I didn't know they also had a Rock & Soul Museum. That's so cool. I woiuld love to go there. I also still want to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame of course, too, lol!
I love old rock and roll. The first rock and roll. It's the real deal. A lot of people don't understand how rock is a mixture of both country and blues. I would say both country and rhythm and blues, but that's not the way I see it. Because country has rhythm too.
If you go back and listen to some of the oldest rock you can hear and feel it. I think the thing about rock, and this is my opinion, is that it should make you kind of let go. When it first came out, it drove people crazy! I mean, people were worried about their kids cause they wouldn't stop dancing and listening to the radio and they thought they had lost their damn minds. Women would pass out. They would faint when they watched Elvis Presley or The Beatles. Guys would wear their hair and clothes like them cause they wanted to be them and couldn't get enough of them.
And I love both the Buddy Holly/Everly Brothers side of things as well as the Chuck Berry/Little Richard side of things. They both fit in, you know? I have nothing against new rock at all, but the thing I love about old rock is that you can dance to it. If you can't dance to it fast then you can still dance to it slow! Or at least get a really good sway on, you know? Ha!
I understand they whole, 'get really into the lyrics and try to decipher the meaning behind every word and every line in a song and what the writer meant when they wrote it', and I get the appeal of that to an extent. But - rock is also a feeling. Like, it doesn't have to make sense. It doesn't have to have a deep, profound meaning ALL of the time. But sometimes it definitely does! And rock and roll and rock and soul that is straightforward and tells it like it is, is sorely missed.
I love my symbolic and deep thinking lines - the songs that you can find some meany meanings to. But when you don't have to THINK that hard - if you can just kind of lose yourself in it - then THAT'S rock and roll. That to me, is the most rock and roll that there is.
And I think that 'rock and soul' makes so much sense. Because to me, there is such a fine line, you know? There is overlapping and there is sharing and sometimes it is just borderline. But it's all so cool. Anyway - I think that is so awesome you have been to Graceland and to Sun Records and now are going to Stax too!
(I finally ordered my shoes, lol! Been putting that off forever! I lost my discount! Anyway, now I have to get the Spotify all worked out. As soon as I do I want to listen to your Memphis playlist. Is it going to be songs by artists from Memphis or is it going to songs from artist who recorded or played in Memphis, or will there also be songs that mention Memphis? Like, 'Walking in Memphis' and doesn't 'Black Velvet' also mention Memphis?
I think it is great that you still live in Memphis. I know there are problems there but there is nothing I hate more than people having to leave their home because of things like that. It has such a rich heritage and it needs it's people to maintain that heritage.
As far as the BBQ - I believe you. I have heard that dry rub is used in Memphis and other parts of TN. In GA, people were always poor. We weren't TX who had the ranches and the beef so no one knew what the hell brisket was cause no one could afford a cow. That's why they had to use every single piece of the poor hog! Ha! So, GA is and has always been famous for the pulled pork - with Carolina Sauce of course. And it is crazy you just mentioned BBQ cause i just had some pulled pork with CS a couple of hours ago.
When I lived In CA there was a cool restaurant that had all kinds of BBQ from around the country. They called the pulled pork sandwich the Georgia Pulled Pork Sandwich, lol. It was the first time I ever got try brisket. And I tried dry rub ribs the first time in Chattanooga.
Okay, so I really blogged today. Keep me up to date on the museum and the playlist. Otis is so cool. I mean, he feels it. He rocks. He rocks and souls.
Love,
Sissy xoxo <3

Summary: Vash is a selkie who lives by a small fishing village. He takes his time to help those who live there, even if he can't show who he really is. Things change when a new man arrives in the village and an unusual seal is spotted, hiding in the waters. Additional Notes: The title comes from the song "Bones in the Ocean" by The Longest Johns and the lyrics in the prologue are also taken from this song. I promise this is only for the first chapter. And a big thank you to @oloreandil on Tumblr who first put the idea in my head and has had to listen to me rambling about this.
Chapter 1: Prologue: A Brother’s Betrayal
Rem stepped out of her little cottage by the sea, a warm coat wrapped tightly around her and she made her away along the small dock she had built. The wooden jetty stretched out a little way into the sea, the water lapping against the support, turning orange under the setting sun.
“Kni! Vash!” she called out at the calm ocean before her. “Dinner’s ready!”
Nothing changed before her as she waited. The sea ran back and forth between the rocks of the little bay.
“Boys!” Rem shouted, hands on her hips as she got nearer to the end of the dock.
A sudden splash of water came from nowhere, drenching the bottom of her skirts. Then, two young seals popped their faces above the water. They were so young, that they still had their pale pelts. The paler of the two had an amused look on its face whilst the other, blonder in colour, was tightly holding a fish in its jaws.
Rem sighed with an amused look. “Okay, you two. You’ve had your fun.”
They disappeared under the water again, swimming their way over to the jetty and climbing up the small ramp. The blond pup still had the fish firmly clamped in its mouth, refusing to be parted from its catch. As they at last sat on the dock, the seal pups removed the hoods their pelts, revealing to young boys with seal skin coats draped over their shoulders.
“Rmmm! M hmmm m fmmm!”
“What Vash?”
The boy took the fish from his mouth, holding it out with a big grin. “I caught a fish! All by myself!”
“I helped you find it,” the other boy muttered, standing up and smoothing his coat out.
“But I caught it without you!”
“Okay. Okay. Boys.” Rem knelt down putting her hands one their shoulders. “Vash, I’m very proud of you for catching a fish by yourself. I know you struggle. And Kni, I know you find hunting easy but you should be proud of Vash too. And well done for spotting a fish for him to catch.” She wrapped her arms around them with a big smile. “I’m so proud of you both, my little pups!”
Rem stood up and took both of their hands. “Now, come on. Dinner’s getting cold.”
“But I caught dinner!”
“A growing boy like you needs far more than one fish.”
The three of them made their way back along the wooden dock to the cottage, quietly going back inside. As the boys took their pelts off, Rem hung them neatly by the door, swapping them over with some woollen coats. Kni was already at the table by the time Vash sat next to him. The two brothers smiling at each other as Rem set their plates down.
All of them were happy and smiling. Not a single worry in the entire world.
♊︎
That day had started off peacefully. Rem was humming a song to herself as she went about the morning’s tasks: reading her barometer, checking the boat and, waiting for the others of her little crew to arrive. Vash had sat at the back of the boat, watching the land disappear behind them. Out on the sea, with the boat anchored, Rem let the two young selkies play by the ship while she and her crew worked. The brothers swam around the ship, playing in the waves and seeing how far they could swim down, each daring the other to go further.
The day drew on and the clouds grew dark.
The air grew thick with a brewing storm but still, Rem worked and the brothers played.
It wasn’t until the waves grew higher that Rem began to grow concerned. She looked for her boys but couldn’t see where they played beneath the water. The wind drowned out her voice as she called for them… and the crews shouting drew her attention as the boat filled with water.
Kni kept Vash close by, playing a game of hide and seek among some rocks, his brother unaware of the tragedy happening above. They rolled and turned and twisted their way through the water, chasing and being chased. Hide and seek becoming tag. Their day still as peaceful as it had begun. Until wood splintered down upon them as the boat was sent onto the rocks.
Peace turned to chaos.
Calm to storm.
Life to death.
And the ship sank like a stone, becoming a shared coffin for those on board.
Vash looked on in horror as the boat and those within it disappeared from his view. The cold fingers of the depth dragged the vessel down into its watery embrace. The ocean was too deep for him to follow despite trying with everything he had, lungs burning as he tried to chase the condemned boat. His heart broke as he swam back to the surface, deep blue becoming grey as he resurfaced.
A storm battered the ocean; thunder roared and lightning flashed. Vash fought to keep his head up, the young selkie so small compared to the towering waves. The sea tossed him from wave crest to wave crest. It tried to drag him down as well but he battled his way to the rocks, hauling himself ashore. Still the waves battered him, the rocks cut him up, sharp edges digging into his skin and scouring his body.
As the souls of the dead fill the space of my mind I'll search without sleeping 'til peace I can find I fear not the weather, I fear not the sea I remember the fallen, do they think of me? When their bones in the ocean forever will be
A figure stood upon the rocks, laughing at the sky with pure, vicious delight.
The sky roared back in return; lightning crackling above them, as bright and as terrifying as the laughter.
Vash tore his hood off, scrambling up the rocks. His hands and feet being torn to shreds as he did so. “Kni! What have you done?”
The laughter stopped, and Kni turned round, the rain running down his face and sparkling under the lightning. “I’ve freed us, Vash! They can’t keep us trapped on the land anymore!”
“You killed them!! Even Rem!”
“It had to be done!”
“No! You’re wrong!” Tears streamed down Vash’s face, mixing with the rain and the salty sea. His heart breaking again. “YOU’RE WRONG!”
Plot a course to the night, to a place I once knew To a place where my hope died, along with my crew So, I swallow my grief and face life's final test to find promise of peace and the solace of rest A lightning bolt struck the sea, lighting up the coastline. A fog horn crying in the distance.
As Kni turned around, all he saw was the ripples left behind as a tail disappeared into the water.
As the souls of the dead fill the space of my ears Their laughter like children, their beckoning cheers My heart longs to join them, sing songs of the sea I remember the fallen, do they think of me? When their bones in the ocean forever will be
♊︎
Many years later, Vash sat on the rocks by an old lighthouse, looking out to the sea, pelt pulled tightly around him and humming the same song that Rem had on that fateful day. A storm brewed on the horizon, the sky already turning black. A small boat silhouetted against the sky.
“I’m sorry, Rem… everyone. I’m sorry I couldn’t save you then, but I won’t let there be another. Not in these waters. Not as long as I live. I’ll save them this time.” He pulled his hood up, diving into the turbulent waters below.

i love ur little rambles so what do u think the losers coffee orders and music taste is (in hey sharpshooter or otherwise) 🤲
ooooo oooo ooo yes yes yes
((TORTOISE LORE on the days i have to work onsite at my job i almost exclusively set up shop at the coffee place across from the office & listen to my little music & drink my little beverages all day so this particular set of questions resonates with me so bad))
for consistency's sake coffee-wise let's say we're talking starbucks. i think most days sirius would go for something high in caffeine but with a little sweetness to it. a venti iced shaken espresso with oat milk and three pumps of classic sweetener, perhaps. maybe switch that classic out for chestnut praline at the holidays bc he's feeling festive. other days i think he'd want an absolute sugar bomb as a reward for getting through a rough week or bc he was really mature today and refrained from screeching at people in the street when they didn't walk fast enough & blocked the sidewalk when he was in a hurry. on those days he requires a big ole mocha cookie crumble frap or an iced cinnamon dolce latte with an extra shot for fun.
on his walk home he's listening to one of three playlists depending on the day. the first one is a fourteen hour pop girlie playlist that starts with style by taylor swift and ends with kiss me more by doja cat, with some ariana, gaga, spice girls, charli, no doubt, & even some abba thrown in the middle for spice. the second playlist is for mocha cookie crumble days and starts with your best american girl by mitski and features lots of phoebe, lots of taylor, lots of lana, some ethel cain for sure, some select fleetwood mac, maybe some stuff from the 1975's a brief inquiry album. it's all stuff he can dig into & be angsty with & have strong feelings to.
the third is a more generic thought-dump kind of playlist where he just throws in songs he likes. buttercup by hippo campus. the view from the afternoon by arctic monkeys. concussion by girlhouse. ilysb by lany. like....,.,moonage daydream. 6 inch. pink pony club. bring it on home. just a mix of vibes and genres & things he gets stuck in his head.
contrary to popular belief i do think remus is a coffee girlie and would pick a mug of good dark roast drip over tea any day. i think he's simple for the most part & would go after a good tall americano on days he needs the kickstart but a grande drip with light cream would be his everyday go-to. during the summers he switches to a cold brew or plain iced coffee with cold foam if he's feeling fancy. he likes to pretend he doesn't like the frilly expensive drinks but every time he & sirius get coffee together, sirius orders him a grande mocha with two extra pumps of mocha and whipped cream on top & he downs it in about eight seconds.
remus is a hozier stan confirmed. remus is a boygenius stan confirmed. he likes poetic lyrics more than anything so sirius puts him on mitski and taylor. i like the idea that his music taste was a little outdated most of his life bc his parents had a huge record collection that they inherited from his grandparents so he just....played music all the time as a lonely little kid looking for things to do. when he was nine the only album he listened to all christmas break was otis redding's the dock of the bay & that made him gravitate toward stuff like leon bridges & amy winehouse as he got older. he learned about spotify four years after everyone else did & still only has two playlists. his parents loved the 90s rock girlies and they listened to a lot of the cranberries and fiona apple CDs around the house, so all those albums are really nostalgic for him now. he puts sirius on jeff buckley & regrets it instantly bc literally all he does now is play remus' grace vinyl full-volume and remus is afraid they're going to get a noise complaint. you can hear it in the stairwell sirius the neighbors are going to get mad please

Listen to Semi-True Story
Listen to Son of a Son of a Sailor
Propaganda and Trivia Below:
Semi-True Story:
"Written by Mac McAnally ("It's My Job"), this country ballad references Buffett's drunken skirmish with the infamous Buford Pusser, a wrestler-turned-lawman who was known for doling out tough justice as sheriff of McNairy County in Tennessee. As the song says, Buffett had just finished recording "God's Own Drunk" (from his 1974 album Living And Dying In ¾ Time) and headed to the King of the Road Hotel with his drummer, Sammy Creason, to celebrate with some tequila - lots of tequila. By the time they left to get some food, Buffett was so drunk he couldn't find his car, so he stood on the hood of a Cadillac to get a better view of the parking lot. Unfortunately, the Caddy belonged to Buford Pusser. "I was standing on the hood of this particular car and as fate would have it, it belonged to a rather large man who came up behind me and threatened my life real quickly," Buffett told concert-goers just a few months later. "And I hadn't been in a fight since junior high school on the city bus in Mobile. He came up and said 'Son you stay right there, you're under arrest.' So I politely turned around and said 'You kiss my ass.' He didn't. Instead he followed me over to the car which Sammy had found. I got in the driver's side and Sammy got in the passenger's side. My window was up, his was down and this fellow poked his head in and said 'Would you like for me to turn this car over?'" It probably would've been easier on Buffett if the sheriff had turned the car over. Instead, he gave the singer and the drummer the beating of their lives."
Son of a Son of a Sailor:
"Okay but like everyone knows Buffet more so for songs like Margaritaville and Cheeseburger In Paradise etc. I feel Buffet could be easily dismissed lyrically but this song is a good example of the range and the topics he could cover. It still has that laidback feeling but I love more of the nostalgic, historical, and personal touches here. This is usually the first Buffet song I send to people who associate him with “silly” kind of music. Good album, too."
"Buffett wrote this song about his grandfather, James Delaney Buffett, who was a huge influence on his life. Buffett's grandfather was a sailor born in the town of Rose Blanche in Newfoundland, Canada, later moving to Glace Bay in Nova Scotia and eventually settling in Mobile, Alabama."
"Buffett said of the song: "I saw a picture of my grandfather after he had come back from a trip to Nova Scotia. He was born there but left when he was a young man and didn't return until he was 84. He was standing on dock staring at an old sailing schooner, and the look on his face told the story of where he had come from and where he had been. I have always been very proud of my heritage as a sailor and wrote this for the men who taught me the skills.""

Lyrics:
Let me out, I can't breathe
Gotta get out of this concrete hole
I'm wrecked and I'm decked
I gotta break free before I lose control
Cast the lines away
From the dock at the harbour bay
It's a fine bright day
And the wind is blowing our way
Set me free, I can't be locked in a cage before I lose my mind
And I'm wired and I'm tired
Gotta lose my chains and leave it all behind
So cast the lines away
From the dock at the harbour bay
All those cares and worries and woes
You can save them for another day
Because we're sailing
Sailing
Yes, we're sailing
Sailing
Give me space, I'm on fire
Banging my head against a hard brick wall
And I'm gone, so long
You can leave a message but I'll never call
Cast the lines away
From the dock at the harbour bay
It's a fine bright day
And the wind is blowing away
Let's go sailing
Sailing
Yes, we're sailing
Sailing
Cast the lines away
From the dock at the harbour bay
There's no cares, no worries, no woes
And the wind is blowing away
Let's go sailing
Sailing
Yes, we're sailing
Sailing
Sa-
You know that if you want to come with me, baby
We can sail away
Cast the line
If you've got time, come with me, baby
Oh, oh-oh
You know this is your life
If you like, there's somewhere I
Oh, you can leave it all behind
Come on with me and
Come with me and cast the line
Oh, I'd be here
Oh, I'd be here
Oh, yeah, oh, ooh
Oh-oh

7 and 28 for ao3 wrapped please!
7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?
I've used song lyrics for titles but from different artists!
My new Carol Danvers fic I Used to Float, Now I Just Fall Down is from "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish, and my Banvers fic This Loneliness Won't Leave Me Alone is from "Sittin on the Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding.
28. Favorite work you wrote this year?
That's really tough, but I'm going with Somewhere in the Woods, Waiting since it was the most self-indulgent with Brucille, whump, monsterlover, and found family.
