OKAY so I am re-listening to "Death and The Queen" again and I am having Thoughts™.
I can't find any info about when this drama takes place continuity-wise, but my personal placement would be after "Planet of The Ood" (4x3) and before "The Sontaran Stratagem" (4x4) because 4x4-4x6 take place directly following each other with Donna stating at the end of 4x6 that she plans to travel with the Doctor forever. Donna's determination to continue traveling w him is in keeping with the conclusion of Death and The Queen, where she comes to the decision that the Doctor IS her "happily ever after," as it were. Placing the drama after "Fires of Pompeii" and "Planet of The Ood" also makes sense with Donna's desire in the audio drama to have a break from "the extraordinary" of traveling with the Doctor (specifically, horrific death and destruction,) which adds understandable context to her seemingly being so willing to leave the Doctor after searching for him for so long.
(Don't talk to me about the ending of Forest of The Dead. It's unlikely Donna would have left the Doctor even if she found Lee. Donna's desire to confirm whether Lee was real could be easily contextualized by her wanting to know how much of her experiences inside CAL were a fabrication, and what the supposed "perfect husband" persona would have said about her if it was drawn from her own mind. Also it was written by Moffatt so it shouldn't count anyway.)
ANyway, what I actually wanted to talk about. Notably, considerable emphasis is placed on Donna enjoying her role as Queen and especially caring for her subjects and having power to help people. A greater amount of text is dedicated to her talking about how as Queen she can care for her subjects than her love for Rudolph, even before the reveal that he is human(?) trash. Her attachment to the role of Queen that marrying Rudolph will grant her is established to be largely based upon her passion for helping people rather than luxuries associated with rank, especially in view of the montage of how royal life on Gorotainia is not as glamorous as she hoped but is still enthralled by being Queen. Later in the story, when danger has appeared, her main role in the story is sacrificing and taking the lead to protect her subjects.
Notably, when things start going downhill and Rudolph starts talking to her about the difficult choices that he must make as royalty she comments that Rudolph is “just like HIM” (the Doctor) and that she went with Rudolph to escape these darker aspects of her travels with the Doctor, specifically the hard choices that go with the role the Doctor plays in the universe (while she doesn’t connect these concepts directly, these two statements are placed very close to one another textually.)
Only when her relationship with Rudolph and role as Queen seems like it will involve some of the same dark choices that her travels with Doctor did does Donna decide she doesn’t want to be involved anymore, which is quickly reversed when she finds out she needs to become Queen in order to protect her people. (I love Donna. In case you can’t tell.)
The narrative has established that a large part of Donna’s attachment to her relationship with Rudolph is potential authority to help and guide people, and that her main interest in pursuing a life with Rudolph rather than her travels with the Doctor was her perception that her role as Queen of Gorotainia would not involve the same death and destruction she has seen with the Doctor. Perfectly understandable after experiencing something like Pompeii.
Donna’s compassion and empathy have been essential components of her character since her introduction, with her wanting to protect the Doctor despite being irritated with him and feeling sorrow for the children of a Rancoss that wanted her to be eaten in “The Runaway Bride”, her taking the time to mention Stacy in “Partners In Crime,” and literally everything in “Fires of Pompeii” and “Planet of The Ood’. Donna has always taken the time and the energy to think of others and work to protect them, even this early in her run. In view of how deeply she feels the pain of others, it is understandable that she would find the idea of a world where she could help others from a position of power without all of the death and chaos and destruction appealing, and her outrage at Rudolph for once again putting her in a position where she has to witness (and potentially be responsible for) terrible things happening to innocent people is believable. He proves that being a Gorotainian royal is like being the Last of The Time Lords. On a smaller scale, sure, but still.
So the text (and Donna) have set up the idea of Rudolph being similar to the Doctor in role, so what is the difference? Rudolph doesn’t much care about people. He is willing to sacrifice his own people quite coldly.
The Doctor does care about people. How good of a person he is, or how good of a job he does caring for people is up for debate, but he cares.
Which all leads me to this quote from “Beautiful Chaos,” that I cannot believe is cannon and real and published.
Why does Donna love the Doctor?
"I wish you could see what I see. We've been to places, to worlds, to futures and pasts you could only dream about. I think half of them I dreamed up because they can't be real. But they are. And everywhere we go, we make a difference. We put things right, we make people happier. That's what the Doctor is all about. He finds a way for the universe to make sense. And I love him for it.”
Donna Noble wants to make a difference. No matter where she goes, she cannot escape the death and pain and suffering and chaos and nonsense that is the universe, and she can’t help but want to help. And right there beside her, the Doctor is working to put things right too. And she loves him for it.
We have this entire drama dedicated to Donna wanting to make a difference, while also escaping the darkness of the universe, and she learns she can’t. There are no happily ever afters.
Except with the Doctor.
I have so many feelings guys.

just rewatched the runaway bride and oh wow donna literally being dropped in the middle of the doctor's post-rose sulking in some random nebula and getting the full spectrum of him loving the genius of humanity and seeing a time he's never seen before and re-wiping out a mother and her children who were planning on eating their way across planets with a blank face and making it snow for a person he just met to make her day a little better. she tells him he scares her and invites him in to eat dinner with her family in the next sentence. augh.

WAHOO day two! The Doctor needs a little adjustment to daily life but he's having a good time <3 679 words, he/they pronouns for the doctor, and donna having a stressed moment when faced with a space gadget right after waking up! @doctordonnaweek
noble/party
“Doctor.”
The Doctor looks up from Rose’s ten-minute explanation of the pros and cons of flanking, craned over his own shoulder, to properly see the extent of the exasperation showing on Donna’s face. It’s extensive. She’s leaning on the doorframe into the kitchen with her arms crossed. Time to step carefully.
“Yyyyyyyyyyes?”
She uncrosses her arms to let something dangle from her forefinger, one eyebrow raised. They leverage themself off the floor a little to squint at it…
“The…toaster?”
Donna pushes off the doorframe so she can come over and gesture the toaster in his face, almost clipping his nose.
“Does this look,” she asks, “like a toaster? Like something that can contain bread? It’s just –” She waggles it again, clawing the air for words. “It’s just! It’s a little squiggle!”
“Oh, it’s very simple –” he says, reaching up to take it and explain that it’s actually his personal design of a clever little breakfast invention called a toasting wand, but she yanks it out of his reach.
“Simple! I’ll tell you what’s simple! Leaving my bloody toaster alone on the morning that I have to get the house ready for a birthday party!”
Ah, this is not about the wonderful new updated toaster he came up with (it toasts both sides to perfection and adds the toppings in one swipe!), it’s another Doing Things When Things Are Happening. The Doctor’s life has almost always been doing things when things are happening, usually in layers deeper than Earth’s fossil record, but they’re trying to slow down for the sake of this “living life one day at a time” business and to avoid Donna strangling them with their own necktie.
“You know I’ve been tearing my hair out about where to put all of Grandad’s mates with the weather like it is!” Donna starts, and he can tell she’s just winding up. “I was up half the night wondering if I should just bung them all into the TARDIS, or put them in the attic, and you certainly haven’t been helpful with those decorations that almost buried the garden.”
The Doctor pops up to get his feet underneath himself, ruffles Rose’s hair in vengeance for her laughing at his plight, and hops upright.
“I just wanted to get my coffee and have my toast while I’m thinking where we’re gonna find space for everyone to eat so the wheelchairs can still get around, and you know what I find when I get to the kitchen? No toaster! Just this…this…gadget!”
Almost losing an eye to Donna’s gesturing – he should maybe add a few extra safety features, he wasn’t expecting it to be pointed at people – gives him the chance to fold his hands around hers. She’s mutinous, but lets them take the toasting wand. The wand goes in their pocket, their hands on Donna’s shoulders. Oh, she’s all kinds of tense.
“Donna,” he says, taking off his glasses to properly look her in the eye, “I’m sorry I changed the kitchen around when you’re so busy. I’ve already made coffee and everything. Let me make you a cup, ey?”
Under their hands, Donna softens, then slumps, leaning forward until her forehead bumps their chest. He folds her up in a hug, and they both heave a big sigh.
“Cold milk?” he asks.
“Yeah,” she mumbles into his collar. “Sorry.”
“Mm. And maybe I can rig something up for space?”
She chuckles. “What, are you gonna make my sitting room bigger on the inside?”
He leans back, looking down his nose at her cheeky grin.
“Are you doubting my abilities?” he demands.
Donna tucks herself under their arm, bumping hips, all warm life and laughter with her hair not yet done. The kitchen door is a little too narrow, but they manage to squeeze through it together.
“Just so long as you leave us all here, on Earth, and you leave my kitchen alone.”
“What? But you’ve been complaining about not having enough freezer space! I was gonna fix it.”
“Like you fixed the bath? Mom almost drowned.”
“I fixed that too!!”

i can’t remember if you’ve said anything about this yet but i’m picturing ur cass going into labour and. how is girl surviving this once let alone THREE times when she reacted to PUBERTY like THAT 😭 just from the sheer panic alone
omg anon i haven't talked about this but it's Cassandra okay girlies is a MESS during all three times 😭😭😭
From way before giving birth, like soon after Alcina knew that Cass was pregnant she had a private meeting with wife and was very clear about making sure Cassandra goes for an epidural and there shouldn't be any of the no drugs option. Wife looked at Alcina and said seriously "What makes you believe your daughter is going to brave this one out?" Because she's known Cass for a few years and can tell that this will never be something to think about. Alcina has no reason to assume that Cassandra is going to do this because she's the kind of person who would cry over a paper cut. So giving birth without medication is not on the table.
And yes, wife is there to keep things under control to the best of her ability. Because as dramatic and out of control Cassandra can be, her wife can maintain calm and be the voice of reason during many situations. She’s not complaining at all, the dramatics are part of Cassandra’s charm that she fell for and she won’t have her any other way. As long as she knows Cass is okay and not in any real pain, she can take whatever comes her way.
Cassandra on her end was doing just okay until about 25 weeks into her pregnancy, then it downed on her and she started to actually panic every time she thought about it. She’d constantly tell herself: “People give birth every day, literally I WAS BORN!” And still get a tight chest because of all the anxiety.
She also was convinced that she was going to die, so it felt more like a countdown to that instead of having her baby because is she going to survive a human coming out of her? Not likely. She was ready with a speech to her wife, mom, and sisters.
When she was at the hospital, Cassandra was in full panic mode because she simply wasn't ready. But since it's time to give birth, the matter is out of her hands but she isn't known for giving up quickly. She was in no pain, physically. Her wife did ask her if she was in any physical pain, to rate it from 0 to 10 which Cass answered truthfully and said that it was at a zero. "Emotional pain?" Wife knows she needs to check on that because this is what's making Cass so anxious and distressed. "200" Cassandra answered as she burst into tears.
That wasn't the end of it. Since she couldn't feel anything, Cassandra's brain convinced her that she could keep this up for probably another day or two. And since she is absolutely not ready to give birth just yet, she decided that wants to leave and come back the next day when she's better prepared. But of course, there is no way she can leave while in active labor and contractions being so close to one another. But then again, she was feeling very panicky and overwhelmed and she wanted her mother because she wasn't going to do this and no one could make her do it.
There is no way wife is going to leave Cassandra's side and go get Alcina, so a nurse has to be sent out for the task. When Alcina saw the nurse approaching, she panicked thinking that something bad had happened. But the nurse told her that everything was okay but her daughter needed her.
When Alcina got into the delivery room, Cassandra thought she finally had an ally and that her mother was surely going to stop this madness and make her go home (she's persistent like that and also very delulu) but Alcina wasn't on her side, and told her that it's too late for that now. She will go home in two days anyway.
"I can't do this! I don't know how," Cassandra confessed, she was openly crying by that point and it broke Alcina's heart to see her like this. She always hated seeing her daughters in pain, and she knows that Cassandra is not in any pain but she is scared and getting very emotional because of it. Alcina hoped for a way to help ease her daughter's distress, but unfortunately, this was one of those things that her daughter had to do alone. "You don't need to do anything, draga. Your body knows what to do, and it's already pushing your baby out on its own," Because at that point, the baby's head was already out and this entire thing will be over very soon.
Sure enough, a few minutes later the room was filled with the baby's cries. And just like that, it was over.
Alcina did get to see her granddaughter as soon as she was born because she was right there providing all kinds of support to her daughter who was finally registering what had happened. Though she was pouting and tearful still, she did complain that no one listened to her, especially her mom and wife because they were supposed to be on her side. But she was soon distracted by her baby and forgot all about labor a few hours later.
Even Miranda wasn't mad that they only called her after Aurelia was born because she knew that Alcina was definitely going to be busy with Cassandra. Miranda called it first and suggested they have an OR on standby just in case this one granddaughter refused to give birth for whatever reason.
Donna was also frantic, knowing how near impossible it was and for once she sided with her mother. But Donna was in favor of them forgoing the whole delivery and going straight to c-section because 'there is no reason to torture the little doe,' as she put it.
It took a lot of coaxing, a very long process, and lots of tears (for no reason, really) but Cassandra did it eventually (with the support of both her mother and her wife and a very patient medical team).
#cassandra dimitrescu#resident evil village#bela dimitrescu#daniela dimitrescu#donna beneviento#mother miranda#house dimitrescu#resident evil 8#alcina and wife were stressed tf out okay#Alcina could have sworn it almost felt like she was the one giving birth not Cassandra with how worried she was#Alcina had 3 daughters with no problems or complications so she knows how easy it is. all three and she was reading one time#on a conference call another time (this one was with cass because she was there for a WHILE since cass was taking her time in coming out so#mama did some work while baby decided whether to come out or not#nothing for dani because when alcina's water broke dani was born literally only two hours later her youngest has no patience in her at all#yet despite that being in the room with cassandra while she was giving birth was the most stressful#she was just worried because cassandra is not built for this#she's like a wet noodle when it comes to these things she has the whole family worried about her because 'how is SHE going to go thru this'#like everyone KNOWS#then there is cass waltzing home 10-11 months later announcing she is pregnant again#like woman can u NOT#and yes she was also dramatic the next time and the third time#she just does it differently every time because girlie really does overthink a lot and gets herself worked up#plus she's actually a delicate baby princess and def not made for this kind of thing#but she wants kids so ://#wife and mama will have to suffer with her#second time at the hospital alcina joked 'do u need me this time too?' and cass nodded tearfully 'yes i can't do this omg'#so it was round two of the same thing#like alcina was more stressed during those times than she was during her own time giving birth#she's too old for this but cassandra insists on putting her mama through it#cass can do it but she needs someone to hold her hand throughout the entire process

yoooo if i’d have known drawing with pressure was SO MUCH FASTER than without then i mighta invested years ago 🤔 anyway a LONG overdue doodle inspired by this post but like....i also had a few concepts of all 4 lords along the way that imma put under the cut
pirate au ig
(this is probably already done idc my ignorance means it’s original to me)
Heisenberg: gigantic steel dreadnought/frigate. Self-sustaining, can remain at sea for years, takes shipwrecks and the dead into its hidden bowels to empower itself. Watch for black fumes in the sky
Dimitrescu: 16th/17th/whatever century they were born in galleon-style ship, famous for being a getaway for women on land in dire straits. Rules over tropical waters aggressively. Signalled by the sea turning red
Few have seen the ship of Beneviento. Some say it's jet black, probably no larger than a yacht. Some say it’s a sizable brig run by a crew not of flesh but of wood and hinges. In either case, she always appears in mist; don't trust any area infamous for mirages
Moreau has less a ship, and moreso wears a marshy island with a solitary, broken lighthouse. This is actually the biological shell of a leviathan, who uses it as a lure to the desperate or brave. Thankfully, he's relatively easy to outsmart. The sky rains acid in warning of him
And fuck MM she doesn't get shit lol

Taste of Vengeance
Raven, holding a huge bowl of noodles in sauce : Alright, let's all eat!
Jaime: Isn't that the bowl that Damian specifically told us not to take or we would cry like faggots in repentance?
Garfield: I don't think he'll hurt us when he finds out Raven took them.
Tara: I second that. Damian's a whipped boy.
Donna, rubbing her hands : Thanks for making dinner for us, Rae!
Kon: Yeah! We really appreciate it!
*some minutes later *
Damian, returning with Jason from buying his favorite soda at the store : Alright, it's time to... *look bewildered as the dining room is in chaos * What the hell happened here? Were we attacked?
Garfield, unconscious on the floor next to the table that is turned upside down : *whole body is crimson and his skin burns with fever while is foaming from his mouth*
Donna: *with the face completely submerged in the full sink *
Damian, rushing to the other side of the table : Raven! RAVEN! WHAT HAPPENED? RESPOND TO ME!
Raven, in demon mode with her eyes rolling and sweating profusely : *intelligible words *
Jaime, unable to speak : *squirms due to an uncontrollable cough *
Tara: *catatonic on the floor with tongue sticking out *
Kon, crawling on the floor to grab Damian by the leg, tears welling in his eyes : Agh... Why?
Damian, dumbfounded : SOMEONE WANTS TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!
Jason, who made Damian's favorite dish for their video game night : I bet my life they ate our harissa noodles.
Damian, shaking Kon off his leg with disdain : Ah... Then perish, you damned thieves.

Behind the Scenes of The Star Beast - Part One
Excerpt from Benjamin Cook's Star Beast Set Visit in DWM 597:
There’s a buzz in the air in Camden Town tonight as the market vendors shut up shop. Businessmen wait on the bridge by the lock. Students rush from the Starbucks, buskers busk. Tourists jostle for a selfie spot, next to the bronze statue of Amy. At the northernmost point of Camden High Street, a man with a mohawk folds away his cardboard placard (‘HELP A PUNK TO GET DRUNK’) and heads across the road to buy a Red Bull from the 24/7. Three men in North Face jackets, one on a stepladder, yank a tarpaulin sheet off a police box. Security guards change shifts. On Gin Alley, people are still queuing for meat and noodles. A woman in a Kermit tee leaves Oddballs carrying a unicycle. Rose Noble buys a bagful of eyes. Outside Cyberdog, two silver robots, three times the height of the average human, stand vigil. A different crowd is gathered here too, dripping in scarves, bowties, and pinstripes. A dog barks. A neon sign flickers. David Tennant arrives. Some people cheer. Others clap. A boy in a beanie hat drops his falafel. An ambulance siren wails in the distance. Two-hundred phones are held aloft. “What a rock star,” says Doctor Who’s executive producer, Phil Collinson. “I still can’t quite believe David is back on the Doctor Who set.” Neither can he. “It’s mental,” says David, grinning. “We’ve got three more months of this.” It’s mid-May 2022, and he’s donned the vintage Converse once more to play the Doctor, alongside Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, in three hour-long 60th Anniversary Specials. They began filming in Cardiff last week. A few days ago, he recorded his half of the regeneration from Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor.
I’ll post additional parts in the coming months with the  #whoBtsBeast tag. The full episode list is [ here ]

i'm re-watching Partners in Crime after like. five or six years lol and their dynamic is PEAK. Donna decides to hunt the doctor for (friendly) sport because she's unimpressed by the traveling experience without someone who's on her same wavelength and does this by dabbling in corporate espionage. The Doctor and Donna doing exactly the same thing in exactly the same way at exactly the same time, except she does it by walking in the front door and with a name badge she? stole? or made herself? did she actually get hired by adipose industries and quit or did she just tell her mom that she was working "health and safety" to get her to stop nagging? the doctor talking to an empty TARDIS and Donna sitting with her cup of tea while her mom sterilizes the kitchen like an operating theater just so she looks busy while berating her. donna hanging on to that tiny piece of metal for like ten minutes while the doctor runs back down the fancy stairwell they found and needed to use more. they don't show how the doctor pulls her back through the window by the feet because if he actually tried it she'd've just pulled him out after her. the extremely dedicated journalist having a bad night. Donna's driving around with her luggage in the back of her car, ready to go. once they're done with the nonsense she goes "shame not everybody can handle the heat. unlike me! let's go!" and nearly pulls david tennet off his feet. doesn't blink at the fact that he's managed to find and lose ANOTHER lady friend in the time since they've seen each other. actually gets the doctor to talk about 1% of what's happened to him. the doctor's face of incredible delight when she pulls out the second capsule he needs. the doctor going "who wants to know what happens when you have the Battle of the Sonics? i do!" "YOU JUST WANT. TO MATE?" "'A' MATE! I WANT 'A' MATE!"
