Theo and Liam as parents
Theo walks into the house to complete silence, weird considering Liam is usually entertaining the twins when he gets home from work. He goes to the living room and sees the reason why it’s so quiet.
Liam on the couch with Camden and Isla, all three of them asleep. Theo smiles and drapes a blanket across the three of them. He sees a note on the table next to the couch, it says:
T. Please try to be as quiet as you can, if the twins wake up I don’t know if I could get them to calm back down enough. Love Li.
Theo chuckles under his breath as he goes to their room to read.
Two hours later an alarm goes off in the living room and Theo immediately hears muffled voices trying to wake Liam up. He sets his book down and walks out of the room to see the twins jumping on the couch.
“Dad, wake up!” Isla shouts, “Dad! Dad! Dad! Wake up!” Camden yells, shaking Liam a little. Liam opens his eyes and smiles at them before Theo speaks up, “What did I say about jumping on the furniture kids?” Camden and Isla turn to him, “Papa!” they shout in unison, jumping off the couch to give him a hug.
After dinner the twins brush their teeth then go to their rooms to get ready for bed. “Goodnight Camden.” Liam and Theo say, turning off the light in Camden’s room, “G’night dad, night papa.” Camden responds, holding onto the stuffed wolf Liam had made him.
They go into Isla’s room to see her reading a book about the moon. She sets her book down on her nightstand as Liam tucks her in and Theo turns on her nightlight. “Did you know that the Moon was made by a rock smashing into the Earth?” she asks them, “Really?” Theo questions, “Yeah. I think it’s really interesting.” she responds, before grabbing her stuffed wolf and turning to her side. “That is really interesting, Isla. But it’s time to sleep, okay?” Liam says, “Okay dad. Goodnight.” she answers, “Goodnight sweetie.” Liam and Theo say before turning off the light.
"I know how scared you were about this when you were younger, but I really think you've been a great parent." Theo states, sitting down on the couch next to Liam, “Really?” Liam asks, “Yes really, you dork.” Theo answers, Liam laughs a little. “Thanks, T.” he says, leaning in closer to the taller one, “No problem, Li.” the other responds.

Love Interest: Liam Dunbar
Friends: Riley Parrish, Coop Harris, Nixie Baker, Bear Wallace, Tilly Cole, Oz Baker, Nina Simms, Mason Hewitt, Corey Bryant, Scott McCall, Malia Tate, Kira Yukimura, Lydia Martin, Derek Hale
Likes: Horror movies, scary stories, true crime, cookies, singing, dancing, cheerleading, scrapbooking, sunsets, movie nights, animals
Dislikes: Liars, not feeling in control, being treated like a child, people not following her advice, sour candy, loud noises, hot weather
Phobias: Snakes, flying
Style: Jeans and sweaters or blouses, sneakers (she hates uncomfortable foot wear), locket with pictures of her family in it, lazy with her makeup looks, hair up or down depending on the heat
Speech: Californian accent, low-pitch voice, gets loud when she’s stressed or annoyed - otherwise pretty much inside voice only
Physical Quirks/Scars: Climbed over a fence when she was a kid, leg got caught on the metal and still has the scar, her eyes glow blue when she’s in werecoyote mode
Personality: Fiercely protective, loving, selfless, salty, family-oriented, anxious, saracstic
Background: Born and raised in Beacon Hills, Marlow has halways been the baby of the bunch - whether that was at home or in her friend group. She was always in need of a little more attention due to her severe panic attacks and BPD. As a child, she was quiet and withdrawn, using her brother’s outspoken demeanor as a shield whenever she felt she needed to. Marlow’s mother Claudia died when she was seven, prompting the little girl to hide her true emotions from everyone. She toughens up and spends more time with her best friend Mason Hewitt, whom she met in kindergarten. When the two are out on a camping trip with Mason’s family, ten-year-old Marlow comes across a scary man with red glowing eyes. He bites her and suddenly her whole life is turned upside down. The night after her first full moon, she wakes up in the ruins of the Hale house, Derek and Laura Hale there to explain the ropes of being a shapeshifter. After Derek leaves town and Laura is murdered by Peter Hale, thirteen-year-old Marlow is left to fend for herself, continuing to hide her new identity from her loved ones. Then her brothers best friend Scott McCall is turned into a werewolf and she tries to help him navigate his new normal while keeping her own predicament under wraps. She is relegated to research duty, having Mason help her under the guise of making up a story. Two years pass and after losses, battles, and goodbyes, Marlow finally starts attending Beacon Hills High School with Mason. Then she meets the new kid Liam Dunbar, and there is a spark. When Liam is bitten by Scott and turned into a werewolf, Marlow is one more incident away from having an anxious breakdown.

A few more questions about PFO:
1.Just how many suitors has Harry gained because of all this?
2. Who ARE all of his suitors?
3. Which suitor has the most support from all of Harry friends and family and why?
4. What do James and Lily think of their sons popularity?
I, personally, think at least one of them would be on the protective side but can't really do anything about it...unless they found a way to return as ghosts.
Oooooo love PFO questions!
Since this seems to be an issue [not with you dear, in general] let it be known: I do not support J.K. Rowling in anyway. This au, this idea is for the fans by a fan who knows that HP is incredibly flawed and written by an awful person but someone who also is attached to the idea and what it could have been.
_________
1. Oh my god, so many! I haven't even decided how many!
2. Cedric Diggory, of course.
Ginny Weasley, for a while.
Theo Nott, whom Hermoine is rooting for.
Fred Weasley, whom Ron is rooting for.
Fay Dunbar who admires his drive.
Blaise Zabini, thinks he's interesting.
Cho Chang because she was an original love interest.
Daphne Greengrass, because she also thinks he's interesting.
Michael Corner, but it's more so a little crush than anything.
Megan Jones, thinks he's cute.
Li Sue (Sue Li), she admires his creativity.
Padma Patil has a small crush on him, but is rooting for Theo.
OC Durmstrang boys and OC Beauxbaton girls
3. Oh man, I'll tell you now, everyone is divided.
Some are rooting for Cedric because in this crack au he and Harry got to know each other a lot earlier, and many think they are cute. They think Cedric is great because he really helps put Harry at ease and he is always great at bringing Harry's self esteem back up.
Some are rooting for Theo because they feel like Theo and Harry really understand one another and are very patient with one another. Hermoine feels like Theo brings out the best in Harry. When Theo's around, Harry tends to think things through more and Hermoine feels like he smiles more easily and is more open.
Some of course are rooting for Fred, especially Ron and George, because Ron thinks it's a brilliant way to have Harry as a brother and George because Harry and Fred make each other laugh. Plus, Harry has never struggled to tell the twins apart, and that is something so important to them.
Smaller groups are rooting for Daphne and Fay. Daphne because Astoria has never seen her sister so interested in someone like this before, nor has she seen someone actually listen to her sister as attentively as Harry has done when her sister spoke about her struggles. Fay because her friends are honestly so surprised something other than her projects and school caught her attention and they think they'd be cute.
Then there are the OCs who have the supports of their respective schoolmates, purely because friendship but like also...solidarity mf. They are in uncharted territory. They gotta stick together.
4. James finds it absolutely hilarious but is also a little put out that he was never this popular.
Lily is the worried one because, look, James may not have been as popular as their son but he was pretty popular, as was Sirius and Remus and the AMOUNT of schemes she overheard to win their affections was worrisome and concerning. The amount of love potion doused things she threw out without their knowledge was also something that lingered in her mind whenever they were able to peak into the living world and watch over their little boy.
They never thought about returning as ghosts. Therefore, never registered with the ministry, but they are spirits with unfinished business and can't cross fully until they know Harry is safe and sound. They go in-between passing on and limbo a lot. But since the Potters are descendants of the Peveralls and the whole connection to Death, James and Lily get a special privilege of being able to see into the living world and watching over Harry.
It takes a lot of energy, though, so usually they do this one at a time and catch each other up on what the other observed.
But yeah! I love Potter Family Opera asks! But I definitely will be sharing my other HP fic idea because man are some angsty. I'm a sucker for Harry dies and wakes up in the past and gets to things over and I want to try my hand on that. I also want to try my hand at Harry leaving the British Wizarding World because he's just done.

A Redemption Earned Epilogue
Tumblr media
Heather Dunbar x reader. Jackie Sharp x OC Warnings: language, alcohol minor mention of weed consumption, your regular dose of chaos.
If you are somehow new to this universe.. do not just dive in here..covers “home for the holidays” for bingo
Welp... this is it. This is the final chapter that I wanted this trilogy to wrap up with MONTHS ago, but i simply did not have the energy to do it. I really just wanted everything to come full circle and wrap up with a nice little bow which I think this does. I am not opposed to writing for this universe in the future, in any stage/dynamic and TBH i can't lie, I lowkey have some thoughts about head canons on "prequel" type situations, on how and why Heat ended up like she did so those might pop up eventually....
Everyone was more than well aware that Christmas was likely going to be a bit chaotic this year. It was the first year in your and Heather’s place, the first year that you were involved with hosting, and it was already a larger crowd than normal. It was also the first year there would be someone under the age of ten attending, which meant that the entire schedule of the day shifted around, it wouldn’t just be dinner, drinks and conversation.
Heather had no qualms with hosting, knowing she had you by her side to help and you were more than excited to lend a hand, this of course being the first Christmas you were officially, part of the family. The family group chat had been incredibly active as everyone had talked through plans, finding out what Lily usually did with Cody considering her parents were down South now, and what her thoughts were for this year. In the end, she was rewarded a very blessed, child free Christmas Eve while Cody tore up your and Heather’s place, watching Christmas movies, making gingerbread houses and helping wrap some last minute presents before leaving out milk and cookies for Santa and finally climbing into bed.
The plan for the morning was for the three of you to open up stockings from Santa and have a nice little breakfast before people would start to trickle over through the day. Lily ended up being the first, arriving basically at the same time as Rob (who of course had Steve in tow) the two of them claiming they simply didn’t know what to do with the morning to themselves. Naturally, Heather did have stockings prepared for everyone, letting Cody hand them out (Rob was pleasantly surprised, giving her a warm smile when she even had one for Steve).
Rob almost immediately made a beeline for the kitchen to make sure things were running smoothly in there, helping out and doing what he could. Coffee and baileys was the go to for the adults while Cody had an endless supply of hot chocolate or apple cider to choose between, Christmas cartoons playing on the television while he showed off his gifts to his mom. Heather had to shoot her a small apologetic look at just how overboard she’d already gone and Lily waved her off with a smile, a look in her eyes reminding the older woman that she’d missed out on eight years with her grandson, she didn’t need to hold back at Christmas.
The party easily flowed between the living room and the open kitchen and dining room, people moving through to grab fresh drinks or some snacks from the finger foods Heather had laid out on the bonus sitting room table. Since she did know just how early Cody had gotten up she did toss some dinosaur nuggets in the air fryer for him, making sure he got an actual lunch and wouldn’t be starving before dinner. Lily was pleasantly surprised when he actually sat down at the table to eat them, thinking that the excitement of the day and all the people would get him riled up, but instead he sat there with Rob, rambling on and on about the adventures they could go on this year.
Becca and Sarah arrived not too long after that, arms filled with bags of presents they had yet to drop off, extra bottles of wine, a pack of seltzers, a tray of pigs in a blanket, spinach dip and fried mac and cheese bites to join the array on the table. They moved through the space, greeting everyone, receiving countless congratulations on their engagement and much fawning over Sarah’s ring before finally making it into the kitchen.
“Merry Christmas!” Becca greeted with a warm smile, wrapping her mom into a tight hug before quickly giving you one and Sarah repeated the pattern as the two of you returned greetings.
“Glad you could finally make it.” Heather teased with a grin, offering them drinks, “I was about to start setting the table, am I going for eight or nine?” She raised a brow toward Becca, knowing the younger girl would know exactly who was planning on showing up.
“Uh..” she tugged her phone from her pocket, swiping to the most recent text chain from Nat, “nine, they’ll be here in forty five give or take, just wrapping things up. Oh!” She suddenly exclaimed and Heather couldn’t help but tense, “they say thanks about your realtor too, their new place is fucking gorgeous!”
“Alright.” Heather shifted forward, pressing a kiss to the top of the girl’s head, “you two head back to the living room, I’m sure Cody will want to give you your stockings.”
The girls darted off and you reached out, squeezing at Heather’s hand, giving her a reassuring smile when she looked up at you.
“What?” She asked with a fake laugh and you rolled your eyes before stepping toward her, cupping her cheeks in your hands and kissing the tip of her nose.
“I can practically feel the anxiety rushing off you.” You laughed, leaning in to kiss her softly, “you’re doing a fabulous job hosting, and everyone here loves you.” You squeezed at her cheeks gently, “if Jackie doesn’t behave, we’ll kick her out, it’s not like she’s the VP anymore.” Heather let out a soft sigh, her hands coming up to your wrists, moving your arms to her shoulders as hers wound around your waist.
“You’re right. And thank you.” With a gentle smile she leant in, stealing another kiss.
“Besides, with a kid around? Everyone’s gotta be on their best behaviour.” You kissed her cheek, “how about you go out into the living room and relax for a bit, I’ll start setting the table, and god know Rob is gonna be in here checking on the food every five minutes anyways.”
“You’re not wrong.” She chuckled, kissing your cheek and scooping up her mimosa glass before vanishing off into the living room.
Sure enough, just as you’d pulled the stack of festive plates down from the cupboard Rob was wandering into the kitchen, shooting you a grin before he pulled open the oven to check on the meat. You exchanged a bit of small talk, laughing over jokes before he deemed everything in good shape and cracked another beer and headed back out, leaving you to finish the table in somewhat of quiet peace.
Steve’s barking echoed through the house from the foyer, signalling that the final two of the party were likely arriving, a knock bouncing off the front door as Cody let out an excited squeal of more friends. Lily managed to scoop him up before the door opened and you got to the foyer in time to grab Steve’s collar so he didn’t go running outside.
“Hey.” You greeted with a warm smile to Nat and Jackie as they returned the greeting, passing of bags of gifts and a couple bottles of wine with the thank you of hosting before stepping out of boots and hanging up coats. Unsurprisingly, it was Cody who piped up over the small talk first,
“Aren’t you the president?” He asked and Jackie laughed.
“Almost, and not anymore.”
“You really didn’t want to run for the head spot?” You asked, nudging Steve back toward the living room.
“Fuck that.” She laughed her eyes suddenly widening as they darted back toward Cody and Lily, “oh my god, I’m so sorry. You must be Lily.” She extended a hand that the younger woman accepted,
“Yeah, and it’s okay.” She laughed, pressing a kiss to Cody’s cheek, “he knows not to repeat that, right bud?”
“Yup!” He exclaimed, “that’s a bad word!”
“Exactly.” Lily booped him on the nose before setting him back on his feet, “why don’t you go show Mimi that new lego set?”
He darted off without another word right as Becca popped into the entrance with a squeal, racing to wrap Nat in a bear hug.
“I’m so glad you guys came. It’s so nice to finally fucking see you again.” She quickly hugged Jackie, “drinks? Wine? Seltzer?” She paused to eye Nat for a moment, “brownie?”
“You know I’m not a member of office anymore, it doesn’t have to be a brownie, right?”
“Oh thank fucking god.” Becca laughed, “because I’ve got a massive joint in my bag and it’s always better to smoke before eating than eat.” Her eyes swept between the rest of the people in the foyer, “Lily?” The blonde hesitated with a small laugh before you nudged at her shoulder.
“Go. If you want to of course. You’ve got plenty of family willing to keep an eye on Cody, have a fun Christmas.”
“You know what that does sound fucking great.”
“Perfect.” Becca grinned, reaching for her coat as she leaned back into he living room, “Sarah! C’mon!” Her fiancée raised a brow but moved through the space as you turned to Jackie.
“Drink? We’ve got mimosas, wine, beer, seltzers, something stronger?”
“Wine would be great, thank you.” She smiled softly, following you into the house, giving a small hello and merry Christmas to the rest of the crew, her head tilting in surprise at the sight of Heather on the floor, Cody in her lap as they built legos together.
“Hey!” Heather called out to Becca, “where do you think you’re going, dinner will be ready in twenty.”
“That’s kind of the point!” Becca called back before the group of girls disappeared through the front door and you couldn’t help but laugh, Heather’s gaze directed to you, her brow furrowed as you knew something she didn’t.
“They’re going to...” you raised your fingers to mime out the action and Heather let out a small huff, rolling her eyes before returning her attention to Cody, not that she was overly surprised.
You were pleasantly surprised with the small talk you and Jackie managed to start up, although you were never the one she’d had problem with. She complimented the house, mentioning something about being thankful to use the same realtor and you replied that Becca had said their new place was stunning. It naturally resulted in a mini tour of the two of you got a little more acquainted before making your way back to the living room and things got settled amongst the adults.
The group reassembled right as timers were going off and everyone started shifting into the dining room and kitchen, hands were washed, side dishes were plated up and Rob started carving turkey and ham into slices. Pleasant conversation and laughter took over the table, compliments given out over food, and wine glasses were on a bottomless refill stream (Cody’s filled with sparkling grape juice in order to feel fancy). It was only natural that the conversation steered back towards work, Jackie congratulating Becca on her new fancy big girl job as Nat had referred to it.
“What about you?” Becca asked “are you really not gonna gun for the Oval? Or are you just on hiatus for a few years?”
“Oh, god no.” Jackie laughed in return, “eight years was enough, once that inauguration hits, I am officially retired.”
“You’ll find it is much more enjoyable than expected.” Heather commented and Jackie raised a curious brow in her direction.
“Are you no longer working?”
“No.” She laughed softly, “the firm’s still in my name, I’ll show up to board meetings every couple of months but that’s about it.”
“Are you retiring?” Becca kicked at Nat’s foot under the table, using her fingers to put quotations over the last word of her sentence and the other woman shrugged.
“Not sure. We were thinking of taking at least a year off to travel for ourselves for once but I wanted to see if you two had set a wedding date yet?”
“Oh god!” Sarah and Becca both laughed, “that’s at least a year away yet! We haven’t even started any planning.”
“Looks like we have plenty of travel time then.” Jackie smiled, her hand coming to squeeze at her wife’s before she glanced over to Heather and Rob, “you two didn’t happen to sell any of those vacation properties when you divorced, did you?”
“Where do you think I spent the first year and a half?” Heather replied with a laugh, watching the way Jackie and Nat glanced between each other, “and yes, we can give you keys to both if you’re headed out that way.”
“Where are they?” Nat asked.
“Barcelona and French Alps.” Becca replied.
“And they are both absolutely gorgeous.” Sarah noted.
Cody jumped in with a comment about vacation, asking his mom if they could go visit gramma and grampa over spring break, that he wanted them to meet Mimi and Pops and the conversation shifted on from there. You discovered you were one of the only ones at the table who’d never actually been to Florida and definitely hadn’t had the childhood experience of going to any of the theme parks and the entire thing got the ball rolling on a larger family vacation come spring.
Bellies were full, the mood was happy through the room, laughter and joy swirling through the warm indoor air. It was out of sheer instinct that you started to tidy things up, stacking up plates and moving serving bowls of food back to the kitchen island. You smiled warmly when Cody immediately jumped up to help, collecting cutlery and carefully helping load up the dishwasher. Steve had no complaints happily trotting along after the kid, eager to get whatever scraps he could before they got tossed in the garbage. Heather made a round to make sure everyone’s drinks were refilled before pulling out stacks of Tupperware so everyone had food to go home with. Once the dishwasher was started Cody turned to wash his hands and let out a gasp when he looked out the window into the backyard.
“Mimi! It’s snowing!” He let out an excited squeal, turning back to the dining room, “mom can we go play outside?!”
“I think everyone could stand to burn off a little bit of energy.” Rob replied as Lily smiled with a nod.
It wasn’t that cold outside but the snow had been coming down all afternoon, thick and fluffy enough to coat the backyard in a blanket of white. The air still had a balmy warmth to it and was the perfect temperature to be outside after being cooped up indoors with the oven going all day. Rob found the perfect excuse to turn on the outdoor fireplace and dig up a couple of large cozy blankets for the outdoor furniture.
Cody happily ran around the yard, chasing Steve or being chased by Steve, running through the playset and tossing snowballs around the place. He roped Becca into a game of tag and before they knew it all the big kids had been enlisted into a snowball fight. Drinks got switched out for steaming mugs of hot chocolate, coffee or apple cider with players choice of booze inside while the snowball fight began to die down.
Heather found herself back in the kitchen, handwashing a few of the now empty wine glasses before drying her hands on a dishtowel. She glanced up at the sound of someone coming around the corner from the washroom and both her and Jackie stalled when they realized they’d been caught alone together.
“Uh.. did you get a cider?” Heather asked.
“Is there bourbon to go in there?” Jackie asked with a near smirk and Heather couldn’t help but laugh.
“Of course there is.” She poured a mug of liquid for the other woman, letting her measure out her own liquor.
“Thanks.” Jackie replied, blowing on the steaming beverage before taking a sip, “you know…never in a million years did I think I’d be saying this, but… grandmother-hood really suits you.”
“It really has been a very refreshing breath on life.” Before Jackie could reply, Cody was bounding into the kitchen.
“Mimi! We’re making a snow man; I need a carrot for the nose!” Heather chuckled, opening the fridge to pull one out,
“Anything else?”
“He’s gonna need eyes. Maybe brussel sprouts? They’re icky, no one’s going to eat them.”
“Okay…” She laughed, reaching back into the fridge for the required vegetables before he raced back out into the yard with a yell. Heather glanced up to Jackie, who was watching the boy shove back on his boots on the back porch.
“God I do not know how you do it.”
“Hmm?” She picked up her mug of cocoa, following the other woman back onto the back porch.
“I mean even for me it’s like I’m suddenly flashing back thirty years ago, this must’ve been hard for you.”
“It was a hurdle at first, that’s for sure. But I like to think of it like the second chance I never got with Jordan.”
“That’s sweet.” Jackie smiled, “he really loves you. They all do. You and y/n are so lucky to have each other.” Her gaze drifted out into the yard before turning back to the other woman, “I’m really happy for you Heather, truly. You really did realize what you were missing out on and worked your ass off to make things right. You’ve managed to create this beautiful family, and…. I am thankful to be part of it.”
A small silence over took the porch as the two of them truly let the words sink in, watching the rest of the group play. Rob had broken out the cigars, watching the chaos from the comfort of a large patio chair while Becca and Nat were cozied up on a lounger, they were snacking on something and there was no doubt it was a brownie. While you, Lily and Sarah were happily helping Cody make what was turning into a snow family.
“Thank you.” Heather finally spoke, “it really does mean a lot. And I do have to thank you for stepping up as godmother while I was gone.”
“It was nothing.” She chuckled, “easier when I can have an intellectual conversation with her.”
“Doesn’t hurt you married her best friend.”
“No. It doesn’t.” Jackie laughed and the two of them felt the little layer of ice that had been hanging in the air begin to thaw, melting away finally on a night full of love and family.
*
Across the yard, Nat’s hand suddenly clamped around Becca’s wrist, thus silencing her mid sentence.
“What?”
“They’re talking…” she stated, nodding up to the porch, “and that’s like, genuine, happy conversation with real smiles and laughs, not fake political bullshit style talking.”
“It’s a fucking Christmas miracle.”
“Oh… my god…”
“Are they about to hug?” Becca’s whisper was hissed, “how drunk are they? Is hell freezing over right now?”
“Holy fuck they’re really hugging.”
“Girls…” Rob chuckled from across the fire pit, “everyone is allowed to make amends, remember?”
“Yeah, I just never thought…” Becca trailed off.
*
Heather glanced up at movement on the small set of stairs, her head tilting at you and Cody hand in hand before he ran ahead inside.
“Bathroom break?” She asked.
“No.” You sighed with a smile, “there has been another request for The Grinch.”
“We just got out here!” She protested with a laugh, gesturing to Jackie and herself and you shrugged, stepping closer to her to steal a kiss.
“Who am I to tell a kid no on Christmas? Even if we have already watched it three times?” With a small giggle you pressed another kiss to her lips, “feel free to stay out for a bit, I’ve got him.” Behind her, Heather could feel Jackie disappearing down the stairs into the yard, no doubt to give the two of you a little bit of privacy.
“It would be nice to have a tiny bit of adult time.”
“I’m pretty sure we’ve tired him out, he’ll probably be asleep within the hour.”
“Alright.”
With a soft smile she cupped at your cheek, leaning in for another kiss, her lips gently meeting yours and you couldn’t help but let out a happy hum against her. Your hand squeezing at her waist softly as you reluctantly pulled away from the kiss.
“I love you.” You murmured softly with a warm smile.
“I love you more than you could ever imagine sweetheart.” She grinned back at you and you could feel all the unspoken words flowing through the air, laughing softly and kissing her once again before disappearing into the house.
Heather watched you go through the door, the excitement in your voice as you greeted Cody in the living room before she glanced through the yard. Never in a million years did she think that her life would turn out like this, never did she think that something so welcoming, so homey, a night filled with love, laughter and affection would be a Christmas in her household. Yet here she was, with her own little found family creating the greatest thing that she never would have expected.  She was happy, beyond happy, and so head over heels in love she nearly didn’t believe it herself. Everything was perfect, it was finally perfect, yet it was so drastically different from her previous thoughts on perfection.
So when she finally said goodnight to the last guest to leave, knowing that everyone else was set up in a guest room for the night and she flicked off the light on the main floor, she knew that she was exactly where she needed to be. She may have been to hell and back, she may have put people through hell and back, but she had grown, she’d become the better person she needed to be, and she now had the life she had always dreamed of and would never forget. She crawled into bed that night feeling happier than she’d ever felt in her life, smiling happily as you rolled in her arms, awake just enough to kiss her gently, wishing her a merry Christmas and reminding her just how much you loved her. In return she pressed a kiss to the tip of your nose, repeating that she loved you, and how thankful she was for you, and for her family.
“I love you Heat… I always will.” You murmured, burying tighter into her embrace as you let out a happy sigh, “don’t ever forget that.”
“Believe me… I never will.”

SHIPPING INFO // ANSWER THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR MUSE(S) SO PEOPLE KNOW HOW SHIPPING WORKS ON YOUR BLOG.
Tumblr media
WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER(S)?
@founderscouncil's jed is a big one, considering i came up with flori after reading about one of ace's wanted plots. i also like @d3adthings' pj and flori together because i think they'd be great. also, @ofvalor and i made flosie a thing - josie and flori - and i love everything about them. there is also @fatecrafted's werewolf, sylas priestly, who i love. sweet werewolf himbo who comes from a huge pack and has a lot on his shoulders. @loetise's allie is also someone that i very much adore and consider an otp for flori. platonically, flori loves the anti squad (mia, loren, faith) so fucking much. she'd fight, die and kill for them. they are her family. they're my platonic otp for sure.
HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?
flori's in her late teens, early to mid twenties. so i would prefer to ship with muses in that same age range.
HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?
when the clothes come off and stuff below the belt gets mentioned. i may rb nsfw posts on here but i mostly write it out on discord.
ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?
sorta kinda? i mean, ideally i would love for our muses to have chemistry but truthfully? if you're okay with it, i'm okay with it. so long as we keep each other in the loop about it. i've said it before and i'll say it again: i'm here to write and have a good time and i would like that to be the case for both/all of us.
WHO ARE OTHER CHARACTERS YOU SHIP YOUR CHARACTER WITH?
bear in mind, this is me throwing characters out there that i would think go well with flori - this is not me saying this should happen asap: - xavier thorpe - scott mccall - kira yukimura - maybe even liam dunbar - tory from cobra kai - hawk from cobra kai - michelle jones-watson - mcu!peter parker - mcu!harley keener - across the spiderverse's hobie brown - any of the 1996!yellowjackets ladies - olive stone - season 4!cal stone - tj morrison - apollo burns - juan ruiz - tilda weber - jack morton - alyssa drake - lilith bathory - hamish duke - randall carpio - tally craven - abigail bellweather - scylla ramshorn - raelle collar - your oc(s) and i am forever patiently waiting for the day where someone picks up colton gobbo as a fc so we can ship together lmao. look at how he looks at her in the gif.
DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?
just let me know that you'd like a ship and we can get the ball rolling. see #4 for more information.
ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?
i'm ship obsessed! not just about my own but about your ships as well. if we're mutuals and you've got a ship going? chances are i will ask about them. prompted, unprompted. i will love them as much as you do, i can assure you that.
ARE YOU MULTISHIP?
heck yeah!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?
tvd: bonnie x happiness, first and foremost because bonnie's my girl. bonora has always intrigued me. klaroline seems fun. steroline. forwood. i've also read a couple of tylena fics here and there. i could see bonnie x elena x caroline. also bonnie x caroline. i haven't read as much bonnie x elena stuff yet, i don't think. to: i've always been a huge fan of gia x elijah and i will mourn the fact that they weren't endgame forever. i also ship @witchfirst and @savagevillain's characters together. legacies: i shipped emma x alaric for a minute before i jumped ship to dorian x emma who are, imho, superior. when it comes to the students, these are my ships: josie x rafael, mizzie, mizziethan, hosie, hafael, handon (as written out on the dash by my mutuals, specifically because i'm not as much of a fan of them in the show), handosie (forever mourning the fact that they did not go there), i'd be cool with hizzie too. cleo x kaleb. kaleb x jed. i shipped both kaleb x alyssa and jed x alyssa. and also kaleb x alyssa x jed. i was also - and mind you, this was way before cleo was even introduced - a big lizzie x kaleb stan. josie x jed is also adorable. idk if jed x lizzie was ever a thing but i'm putting them on the list also. jed x hope. cleo x hope. ethan x hope. hope x maya. i wanted more for finsie to be honest. brock x wade has always been a beloved crackship of mine; they never talked in the show but in my head, they are in love. dana x sasha x connor; sasha x connor; dana x connor; dana x sasha.

Putting this under a read more because we have so many muses between us! Your muse is in bold and I've provided a key beneath the cut too! I wasn't sure of your muses sexualities, so if any don't match just ignore! <3

In Which Ondine Breaks a Promise
“Don't worry. No one’s gonna run your girlfriend off.”
“She's not my–she’s not my girlfriend.”
Word Count: 2121
Pairing: Liam Dunbar x Female OC
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last thing Liam expected that morning was to be pulled into a musty broom closet by Ondine Beck. But when his eyes adjusted to darkness he found himself nose-to-nose with her. Her hands rested on his forearms, holding onto him like she was scared he’d run away.
“Hey,” he said a little breathlessly. She didn’t reply, her eyes searching his face. For a stupid moment, Liam was scared she was going to kiss him, then she reached behind him and flipped the light switch.
They both winced at the sudden light, but Ondine recovered quickly and got to her point. She was still holding him close. “Liam, I need to tell you something weird. Crazy even. But I don’t think you’ll think it's crazy because I think that you’ll understand and maybe your friends will understand and then maybe they can help me but my mom told me not to talk to you—but I don’t want to not talk to you.”
All Liam could do was blink. “I think that’s the longest sentence you've ever said. Like, ever.”
Ondine squeezed his arms as a frustrated look crossed her face. “Shut up… just don’t freak out.”
He nodded immediately, before he looked around and realized once again that they were standing in a broom closet. Liam tilted his head a bit with a thoughtful frown. “You said your mom doesn’t want you to talk to me? Why? I didn’t do anything, did I?”
“No, you didn’t,” she said, seeming to choose her words carefully. “But I think another werewolf did, and now she doesn’t trust any of them.”
Liam backed away from her as much as he could, which wasn’t much in the cramped closet. His reaction made Ondine wince, and she let her arms fall to her sides. “I meant to say that a little more carefully.”
“I–I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You’re a terrible liar,” Ondine said matter-of-factly. “Listen, I want to talk to Scott. I wanna know if… if werewolves are really as evil as my mother says.”
“We’re not,” Liam answered, meeting the girl’s gaze quickly. The way her eyes were pleading with him to not run away made him calm down a bit. “So what are you guys? The others and I figured your family isn’t human, but we can’t figure out what you are.”
She avoided his eyes, turning a bucket over and sitting on it. Biting her nails, she stood up again and kicked the bucket aside. Not even a second later she pulled it back over and sat back down. Her restlessness was putting Liam on edge, and as she prepared to stand once again he gripped her shoulders and shook her slightly.
“Ondine, you're freaking me out.”
“You said you wouldn't freak out!”
“I lied!”
With a huff of annoyance she decided to just spit it out. “We’re sirens.”
It came out as a whisper. She was shaking slightly, like admitting it had sent a shock through her.
Liam listened to her heart beat like Scott had taught him to; she wasn’t lying. And then he was hit with another wave of confusion. “Siren? Like a mermaid?”
“No, idiot. Like the bird women from Greek mythology.” She grabbed his hands from her shoulders, holding them in front of her. “I literally just learned all of this last night, and I don't understand any of it. But I do understand that there's a Dead Pool with my name on it. I’d like to see it.”
“Yeah, okay. Done. But—how did you not know you’re a siren until yesterday?” That question had been bothering him for a while. Why would her family not tell her she’s not human?
Ondine raked a hand through her hair and stared at the floor. “There’s a tradition that we’re not supposed to find out what we are until we turn sixteen. That’s when we come of age and go through this weird metamorphosis thing.”
“When do you turn sixteen?”
“Next week.”
“So… what? On your birthday you’ll turn into a bird lady?”
“Pretty much.” Ondine tried to laugh it off, but her forced smile fell almost immediately. “It's gonna be pretty hard for me to meet up with you guys without my mom finding out. I’ll give you my number so you can text me a time and place. I’ll find a way to get there.”
After she put her number into his phone, Ondine took a deep breath and shook out her shoulders. Right as she prepared to leave the closet first, her hand hovered over the handle and she whipped back around to face Liam. She looked conflicted, before she blurted out, “I don’t think you're a heartless monster, by the way.”
Liam wasn't sure how to reply to that. He settled for nodding a bit awkwardly and a quick, “Thanks.”
With a tiny grin, Ondine slipped out of the closet. Liam waited a minute before he too left, running into Scott almost immediately. His alpha had been standing around the corner, listening in on the entire conversation. Scott looked just as perplexed as Liam did.
“Lydia was right. It did handle itself.”
Liam barely heard him, his mind on overdrive as he attempted to process everything he’d just learned. So far, the girl he was kinda-sorta friends with knew he was a werewolf. She didn’t seem to care and wasn’t afraid of him, so that was good. That same girl was a siren, which he didn't know much about but was planning on doing intense research on the subject later on. Lastly, her mom hated werewolves and forbade Ondine from going near them. Though it seemed that Ondine didn't care too much about what her mother said.
But hey, on the bright side, he got her number. That was a step in the right direction.
****
It was that same day that Liam texted Ondine the address to Derek’s loft, telling her to be there at midnight.
The nervous boy was standing with Scott, Derek, Stiles, and Lydia. He checked his phone for what seemed to be the thousandth time: 11:55 pm.
Derek rolled his eyes at the younger wolf’s anxiety. “Would you relax? She’s almost here.”
“How do you know? She never texted anything back,” Liam reasoned, slipping his phone into his jacket pocket.
“I know because I can hear her outside in the parking lot,” Derek said, only making Liam stress even more.
He tugged at his hair and gave each of them a serious look. “Okay, she just learned about the supernatural world yesterday, and she seemed really freaked out earlier, so don't scare her.”
“Don't worry,” Stiles said with a teasing glint in his eyes. “No one’s gonna run your girlfriend off.”
“She's not my–she’s not my girlfriend,” Liam snapped a little too quickly, glaring at his friends' smirking faces. “We’re not even friends. Not really. She doesn’t want to be friends.” He tried not to sound bitter, but what Ondine had said to Kira and Malia had not been forgotten.
Before anyone could tease him any more—thank goodness, Liam’s face was already bright red—Ondine Beck strode in with sleepy eyes and a green bike helmet tucked under her arm.
“Just so you know, I’m sacrificing my sleep schedule for this,” Ondine said, her eyes sweeping the room and landing on Liam. She grinned at him, and the sight made him warm inside. “You have the Dead Pool?”
Stiles spoke before Liam could reply. “What? No ‘hey, how are you?’”
The girl gave him a sour stare, moving to place her helmet on the metal table at the center of the room. “Hey, Stiles. How are you?”
“I’m–”
“Oh, wait. I just realized that I don’t care.” She sent Stiles a fake smile and walked over to Liam, standing beside him with crossed arms. “Can we get to it? It’s only a matter of time before my parents find out I'm gone and contact the national guard.”
Lydia reached into her pocket and pulled out the folded sheet of paper. It was the second half of the Dead Pool; the one with her family’s names on it. Ondine’s eyes flickered back and forth as she read the names one by one, her lip slipping between her teeth.
Liam gently bumped her shoulder with his own. “Hey, you okay?”
It took a moment for her to reply, and it wasn’t what any of them expected. She scoffed suddenly, looking at Liam with a bewildered scowl. “Olivia is worth five million? But I’m only worth three! What’s she got that I don’t?”
“Okay, I think we need to have a long talk about priorities,” Stiles said when her outcry was met with silence.
Ondine shrugged and gave Lydia back the paper. “Don’t bother. Besides, my mom’s worth eight million, which means those assassins must have thought they’d hit the jackpot by attacking us.”
“Assassins?” Scott questioned at once, concern crossing his face. “You were attacked.”
“Last night,” Ondine said with an air of nonchalance. “I technically wasn't supposed to find out I come from a long line of half sirens until I turn sixteen next week, but being nearly killed sped up the process.”
Lydia gave the Beck girl a thoughtful look. “So what happens on your birthday?”
All Ondine could do was shrug once again as she fiddled with her hoodie strings. “I’m not sure. My mom hasn’t told me that much, but the gist of it is I’ll grow wings and talons, my eyes will turn purple, and I’ll…” with a gulp, she forced herself to continue. “I’ll have the urge to kill anything that moves.”
As to be expected, this received some upset responses from the others. Stiles ran hand over his face, looking a tad bit exhausted. “Great. Perfect. Now we can add you to the long list of people trying to kill us.”
“Shut up, Stiles,” Liam growled, his eyes flashing yellow for a split second.
Ondine took a step back, shoving her hands in her pockets as a defense mechanism. “My mom won’t let me hurt anyone. We have a cabin upstate, far away from any humans. That’s where I’ll go on my birthday. Mom said she’d explain it better soon, but… I don’t think she trusts me very much.”
“Don’t say that,” Liam said. “I’m sure it’s not that.”
“Maybe.” Ondine was getting tired of shrugging, but she did it a third time anyway. “Er, I should get going. Thanks for meeting with me so late, it means a lot.”
Derek stopped her before she could leave. “I know your mother doesn’t like our kind, it’s become common knowledge for werewolves to stay clear of your property, so why would you blatantly defy her by talking to us?”
The question threw Ondine off, and she struggled to gather her wits off the floor. Derek could have sworn her eyes flickered to Liam before she stuttered out a reply. “My mother is validly paranoid. She shut everyone else out of our lives in an attempt to keep us safe… but I want to be better than her. I don’t want to shut everyone out. Besides, I’ve got no reason to hate werewolves. You guys seem pretty chill to me.”
That seemed to satisfy Derek, and when Liam and Ondine left (the boy had offered to walk her back downstairs), the remaining pack just gave each other amused looks as they left.
“So Liam’s whipped?” Lydia surmised, her eyes still on the door where the two younger kids had disappeared through.
“Pretty much,” Scott replied with a smirk. In a weird way, the obvious crush his beta had on the siren reminded him of himself and Allison: a newly bitten teenage werewolf falls for a girl whose family hates his kind. History really does like to repeat itself.
That thought made his smile fall. Hopefully, it won't repeat itself too much. Scott couldn’t let another him and Allison end so tragically.
****
Climbing back into her room through the window, Ondine didn’t bother with changing into pajamas and flopped onto her bed face first.
She was half asleep when her phone buzzed from where it still resided in her pocket. Groaning, she pulled it out and squinted at the bright screen. Her foul expression fell once she saw the text was from Liam.
Liam: did you make it home ok?
Ondine: yep :)
Liam: ok, sleep well
The short conversation left a smile on the girl’s face. Ondine set her phone on her nightstand, turning over in bed to attempt to get some much needed rest.
In the morning, Ondine did some Oscar worthy acting when her mother searched every nook and cranny of the house, swearing she was catching the scent of wolves.

Teen Wolf: Where Are They Now
So obviously these are my headcanons/predictions/opinions and you are in no way obligated to agree with me, however, here is what I think each character would be up to by the time we get the reboot movie in 2022:
Scott McCall, age 27:
I think Scott just recently graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. (because he had to take classes sporadically due to the ongoing hunter v supernatural war). He’s been trying to keep things under control while also furthering his own career and life.
He is working at an animal clinic still, but he gets to handle his own cases!
He and Malia are still going strong, they share an apartment in down town Beacon Hills.
Stiles Stilinski, age 27:
Stiles is an active duty FBI Agent running the “Supernatural Unit” with a couple of other people in the know. They get called in when it looks like a serial killer or problems a town has been having could actually be a supernatural threat.
He lives with Lydia in DC, and he’s been working up the nerve to propose to her. He bought a ring 3 months ago and keeps waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Lydia Martin, age 27:
Lydia is working as a resident in a hospital in DC. She lives with Stiles and is suspicious that he might propose within the next year or so.
She talks to Malia at least 3 times a week on the phone or over facetime and they complain about how their boyfriends are in love with each other.
She graduated 2 years early from MIT and is on her way to her MD (she already has it) and her PhD.
Malia Tate, age 27:
Malia is working as an animal photographer. Her passion is working with animals so she’s hoping to either become a Zookeeper or be able to work in an animal shelter, once she has the right qualifications. She shares an apartment with Scott, and they are still going strong.
She is also pretty sure that Stiles is going to propose to Lydia soon, and she’s annoyed that they live so far away and she can’t sniff it out via chemo-signals.
Liam Dunbar, age 24:
Liam went off to UCLA for college and ended up settling in LA. He is returning to help Scott out. He was a business major.
Mason Hewitt, age 24:
Mason went to USC on a full scholarship. He majored in bio-chem and is studying to become a doctor. He and Lydia are in pretty constant contact, Lydia gives him advice for med school and how to survive residency.
Theo Raeken:
This man has literally never crossed my mind. Bye.
Derek Hale, age 34:
I’d like to believe that he and Braeden reconnected and are thinking about settling down. But right now they are off running international missions for Scott against Monroe’s still active forces.
Jackson Whittemore/Ethan, age 27-29 (I know Jackson was supposed to be older than the mains, so):
These two are also off in Europe running ops for Scott and keeping tabs on the Hunter v Supernatural war.
(they will eventually start their own wing of the foster care system dedicated to placing supernatural children with other supernatural families)
Kira Yukimura, age 27:
Kira is still working with the skinwalkers on and off, when she isn’t she’s living in New York and studying to earn her teaching degree. She will occasionally help Stiles and Lydia out with supernatural issues on the East Coast.
Isaac Lahey, age 27:
Isaac moved back to the US and ended up attending GWU with Stiles. He is dating Stiles’s FBI partner Lexi (I’m aware she’s an OC, but until I’m proven wrong I’m rolling with it). He ended up studying poli-sci and he’s interning/working as an assistant for a politician in DC. He still wears a lot of scarves, and Stiles hates it.
Sheriff:
He is still working in Beacon Hills though he’s getting close to retirement. He’s been pestering Stiles about whether he wants his own police force, trying to get him to move home and take over the role.
Melissa:
She is still working as a nurse, though she has a system in place so that she gets the first look at any supernatural case.
Argent:
He helps run West Coast operations with Scott and will frequently take trips up to the Pacific NorthWest to check on things.

pairing: stiles stilinski x oc a/n: wow, first chapter of the year. and it only took me over three months! it’s the longest chapter yet tho, hope that makes up for it.  warnings: an injury, mentions of a family murdering axe murderer.   wordount: 4492

Stiles
“Of course you’re still the team captain.” I glanced to my side at Scott who was looking down at the ground, brows drawn together in worry. “You got your grades up just like Coach told you to, right?” I asked as we arrived by the bleachers in front of the lacrosse field.
“Yeah,” Scott nodded, “but he never told me I was back on the team. He just told me to show up to tryouts today.”
I shook my head. “We got bigger things to deal with, anyway. Did you tell Argent yet?”
“Ah, I texted him, but he didn’t get back to me.”
I halted in my steps, turning around to face Scott fully. “You told him his sister Kate came back from the dead over a text?”
Scott shrugged, looking guilty. “I didn’t have the money to call France.”
I raised my eyebrows. “Yeah, you think you got money problems? Try paying for an MRI and a visit to Eichen House.”
“Another notice?”
“This one said final,” I said, sighing. “Now, what the hell are we even doing here, anyway? We got, like, 117 million problems, and worrying about our status on the lacrosse team is not one of them.”
“It is now.”
I jumped at the sound of the new voice. Valerie was standing right beside me, clipboard in hand. I furrowed my brows at her and she nodded towards the field. Scott and I followed her gaze and oh my god.
Some new fucking guy I was standing in goal, practicing with two of his friends. The two boys shot ball after ball at him, taking no pauses between shots. The little bastard caught every single one.
I shot a quick glance back at Scott just to check that he was seeing the same thing I was. He looked just as shocked.
“Who the hell is that?” I asked.
Valerie exhaled. “Name’s Liam Dunbar,” she said. “A freshman who recently transferred here from Davenford Prep. He has caught every single ball since he arrived earlier this morning. And, I’m sorry, Scott,” Valerie turned to look at him, brows drawn together in sympathy. “I talked to Coach. All positions are open.”
“Okay, maybe we should practice just a little bit.”
3rd person
“I hate math. It’s pointless,” said Malia as Stiles and Valerie led her into the classroom, having just caught her trying to sneak away.
“It’s school,” said Stiles strictly as the three of them took their seats in desks next to Lydia, who was already there. “School is important and math is essential.”
“To what?” asked Malia defiantly.
“Knowing how much to tip at restaurants,” said Valerie as she pulled out the textbook out of her bag, playfully winking at Malia. Stiles raised his hands in a gesture that said, “exactly”.
Lydia rolled her eyes at her best friend’s words. “And less important things like medicine, economics, engineering.”
“Tipping,” Valerie repeated.
“Alright, volunteers to the board,” Miss Ramsey announced to the class. “Lydia, Diego, Malia.”
Malia’s head quickly shot up towards her teacher when she called her name. “Um… I didn’t volunteer,” she said.
“You did now. To the board.”
Malia swallowed, and Stiles gave her an encouraging double thumbs up. She responded by growling in his face. Valerie laughed at Stiles’ scared expression as the two other girls stood up to solve the problems on the board. “I’m so glad she joined our pack.”
Meanwhile, Malia was staring at the board in utter confusion, the numbers and letters meaning nothing to her. Lydia quickly noticed her frozen state. “Did you go over the notes I gave you?” she whispered.
“I– I didn’t understand them.”
Lydia looked back at the room, spying Miss Ramsey in the classroom's corner, bent over and helping another student. She wouldn’t notice a thing. “X equals 25,” she whispered. Malia let out a relieved sigh, scribbling the answer on the board. “You can come over to my house today and I’ll help you study. And hopefully explain my notes better.”
Malia let out another relieved sigh, but this one was slightly quieter, calmer. “Yeah, that would be great, actually.”
Lydia nodded, scribbling her answer on the board. “And, sweetheart,” she said, putting the piece of chalk down. Malia’s heart skipped a beat at the nickname. “Put away the claws.”
Malia looked down at her hand to see that her claws were out.
“Shit.”
Across the room, Stiles’ phone buzzed. He pulled out the phone out of his pocket and read the notification.
BEACON LEDGER NEWS ALERT Triple homicide developing...
Stiles
Kira bit her lip. “An axe murderer?”
“A family-murdering axe murderer,” I corrected, as Valerie and I followed behind her and Scott.
“I already heard about it,” said Scott, sighing.
My eyes widened. “Wait, what– you did? How?”
“My mom called me. She knew we’d see it on the news.” Scott shrugged just as he arrived by his locker.
“Perfect, let’s go,” I said, already stepping to walk out of school.
“Woah, woah!” Scott exclaimed, making me halt in my steps. “We’ve got econ in five minutes,” he said simply.
“Right,” I said. “Did you forget the part about the family-murdering axe murderer?”
“Did you forget that your dad’s the Sheriff? They want us to stay out of it.”
“Are you guys kidding me?” I looked from Scott to Kira to Valerie. “There– there’s a family-murdering axe murderer and we’re not going to do anything about it?”
Kira shrugged. “Maybe we should just let the adults handle it?” I opened my mouth in indignation and then looked at Valerie, raising my eyebrows. She raised her shoulders, mirroring Kira’s body language exactly.
“So, you three, you just want to stay here, school, go to class...?” Scott opened his mouth, but only incoherent sounds came out. Kira was looking at Scott, waiting for him to say something, and Valerie was looking at the ground. “Never heard anything so irresponsible in my life,” I scoffed, turning around and walking away from them.
“Hey, Stiles, wait!” Valerie’s voice carried from behind me until she showed up in my line of vision, walking along by my side. “Calm down, okay? I’m sure there will be plenty of supernatural mysteries for you to solve in the future. But for now, can’t you just enjoy the break and try to be a normal high schooler with the rest of us?”
I rolled my eyes. “Fine.”
She smiled. “Great. Walk to Econ with me?”
“Yeah, whatever,” I said, letting Valerie wrap her arm around my bicep and lead me down the hallway.
There were several stares in our direction as we walked toward the classroom. Valerie wasn’t bothered by them. She had gotten used to these kinds of looks a long time ago, and, more importantly, she didn’t care. But I couldn’t help but feel insecure.
As soon as Valerie and I had become friends, rumors and whispers started flying around the school. To some degree, I understood it. Valerie had made her hatred for me very clear for so many years that basically our entire grade knew about it. “That guy Valerie hates” had been my only claim to fame for a long time. High Schoolers were nosy. It was expected that mine and Valerie’s friendship had caught people’s interest, but by now I felt like it was time to just accept it and move on. But no.
Our friendship did come with a bonus, though, that I hadn’t expected, which made up for the rumors and judgmental looks. Let’s just say that during my school time… Valerie wasn’t exactly the only person who had picked on me. I mean, I sort of got it. I was a weird nerdy kid with ADHD and anxiety. That’s top tier bullying material right there. But now, with Valerie by my side, people left me alone. The entire school was kind of terrified of her after she had floored a senior who had been bullying Erica with a punch in freshman year. It had basically stopped all direct bullying of her immediately.
As Valerie’s number one victim, I had been free game. But now, having the protection of being her friend, everyone knew that if they did anything to me, their jaw would soon have a date with Valerie’s fist.
Said girl’s walking then halted, and the sudden force of her now holding me in place nearly made me trip.
She let go of my arm. “Sorry,” she said, without looking at me. Instead, looking at the bulletin board mounted to the wall. More specifically, she was looking longingly at the sign-up sheet to the school musical.
School Musical Auditions Sign-Up High School Musical: the Musical
It was Valerie’s favorite movie. I knew that because she had forced me to watch it about a week ago.
Valerie popped the DVD into the player and sat down next to me on the couch, snatching the TV remote out of my hand. “If we’re gonna be friends, you have to watch this,” she said. “I’m not gonna be friends with some loser who hasn’t seen High School Musical.”
I let out a breathy laugh as Valerie clicked the play button and leaned back into the couch, grabbing a handful of popcorn out of the bowl resting in my lap.
“If I’m being honest, I didn’t peg you for the kind of girl to like this stuff,” I said as the opening credits faded out and the movie cut to Zach Efron playing basketball with his dad.
Valerie frowned. “You know Lydia and I used to talk about these movies all the time.”
“Yeah, but you know…” I glanced back at Valerie, whose eyes were focused on the screen, and shrugged, “that was before.”
A mix between a smirk and a smile pulled at Valerie’s lips as she actually turned to face me this time. “Not everything has changed, Stilinski.” I smiled back at her. Valerie’s eyes turned back to look at the screen, but mine remained trained on her face, admiring the way the light from the TV illuminated her blue eyes. They burned with love and nostalgia as she re-watched her favorite movie for what must be the thousandth time.
Probably feeling my stare on her, she blinked slowly and scratched the back of her neck, leaning her head forward slightly so that her hair fell in her face. I looked away from her, clearing my throat awkwardly. “Well, if I’m watching this you’re definitely watching Star Wars,” I said.
Valerie shrugged. “I’ve already seen Star Wars.”
I turned to her again, this time in surprise, my eyebrows raised significantly. “Really?”
“Of course.” Valerie popped a popcorn in her mouth. “They’re classics.”
My mouth turned up into a half smile, half smirk, very similar to the one Valerie had been wearing just a couple of moments ago. “You know, this friendship thing might actually work out.”
“Shut up and watch the movie,” she grumbled, and I nearly missed the upwards curl of her lips.
“So are you gonna sign up for tryouts?” I asked, fixing my gaze back on her face.
Valerie looked away from the sign-up sheet to glare at me. “It’s theater. They’re called auditions, you dumb jock. And no.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t want to,” she snapped, harshly pulling a strand of her hair behind her ear.
My eyes narrowed at the gesture. “Uh, huh. Just curious…” I said, shrugging my shoulders and quickly swiping my thumb across my lips. “If you did want to try out,” Valerie glared at me again, “what song would you sing?”
“Defying Gravity from Wicked,” she replied instantly. “I already know it by heart, and it’s perfect for showing off my range. Plus, I love it. It’s like the story of my life and it pretty much single-handedly got me through my breakup with Michael,” she finished, shrugging casually as if she thought that would convince me she didn’t actually care. Yeah, right.
“Mhm,” I mumbled, raising my eyebrows skeptically. Valerie bounced on the balls of her feet and took another longing glance at the sign-up sheet. I rolled my eyes, deciding just to sign her up myself.
“Stiles!” Valerie exclaimed as I leaned over and scribbled her name under Gabriella Montez. “What the hell are you doing?”
“What does it look like I’m doing?” I asked, releasing the pen and stepping back to stand opposite to Valerie again. “You can’t lie to me, Val. You want to audition so I’m signing you up.”
She sighed. “You know I can’t, Stiles,” she said weakly. “My father–”
“Doesn’t have to know!” I interjected, but she didn’t look any more convinced. I let out a small sigh, dropping the act to speak seriously. “You don’t actually give a fuck what he thinks. We both know you’re just using that as an excuse because you’re too scared to pursue your dreams.”
Valerie bit her bottom lip and crossed her arms, sad eyes turning to look at the floor. “What if I’m not good enough?” she mumbled.
“Not good– Val, look at me,” I said, putting my hands on her shoulders. She slowly pulled her head up and locked eyes with me. “You’re an amazing singer, okay? You got the brains and talent to go as far as you want. And when you do, I’ll be right there beside you... to borrow money.”
Valerie scoffed quietly, but she still smiled.
“You’re gonna kill at that audition,” I said, patting her on the shoulder as I pulled my hands away. “Well, metaphorically. Hopefully, you won’t actually kill anyone.”
“I’ll kill you if you don’t shut up.”
I scoffed. “Sure you will.” If Valerie actually wanted to kill me, she would’ve done so already. “Even if you do, I’m gonna come back as a ghost and haunt your cute ass. You’ll never get a moment of silence again.”
She shuddered. “Okay, point taken.” I winked at her. Valerie laughed and shook her head, before leaning over towards the sign-up sheet.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,” I said quickly, wrapping my arm around her shoulders and pulling her away. “Uh, uh. There’s no way you’re erasing your name from that sheet. No way.”
“I wasn’t going to!” she shouted indignantly.
“Yeah, sure.”
Valerie rolled her eyes. “I was just going to correct it. With your dumb hand writing it looks like Lalerie Thomas signed up to audition for Gabriella Montez.” I glanced back towards the board and lo-and-behold, the V I had written in the beginning of Valerie’s name looked a lot like an L.
“They’ll know what it means,” I said simply, shrugging my shoulders and pulling Valerie towards Econ.
Valerie
“I don’t understand what you’re upset about,” I admitted, slinging my backpack over my shoulder and looking at Kira, who had offered to walk me to lacrosse tryouts. “He kissed you. Isn’t that a good thing?”
Kira nodded, fiddling with her nail bands like she always did when she was nervous. “He did, but… he didn’t.”
I furrowed my eyebrows. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Scott either kissed you or he didn’t.”
Kira shrugged, biting her lip. “Well, technically he did…”
“Okay,” I sighed, looking down at my shoes for a while as we trudged towards the lacrosse field. Kira was obviously too nervous to just get out what she was trying to say, so I was gonna have to figure it out myself if I wanted to help her. “Was it on the lips?” She nodded. “Was there tongue?” She shook her head and groaned.
“No, it was like how you kiss your grandma when you’re five!” Kira exclaimed, voice high and eyes open wide, which made her look like a scared baby deer. “It was so embarrassing. He just said bye, kissed me quick, and walked away like nothing had happened. I’ve never been more mortified in my entire life!”
A lighthearted chuckle escaped my lips. “Wait, that’s what happened? Of course that’s what happened! Oh, Scott, you really are one in a million,” I said, running a hand through my hair.
“Do you know what it means?” asked Kira, voice still high pitched and eyes still blown wide. She clearly didn’t find this as amusing as I did. “He probably doesn’t even like me, right? I mean, why else would it have been so chaste? Why else hasn’t he said anything? He must just not like me, but he’s just too nice to hurt my feelings. He is super kind like that. And a little oblivious. Oh God, what if he thinks that I don’t like him–”
“Oh my God, shut up!” I yelled, putting my hands on Kira’s shoulders and turning her to face me. “Okay? Stop being so anxious. Stop overthinking things. God,” I groaned, “you sound like Stiles.”
Kira did as I said. She closed her mouth and stood stiff as a board listening to me.
“Of course he likes you, you moron. He’s had a big fat crush on you since day one!”
The side of Kira’s mouth pulled up slightly in a small smile, but she still looked thoroughly unconvinced.
I sighed, softening my voice a bit. “I wasn’t there when it happened, but I’m sure the reason he kissed you like that was because he was going on instinct. Everything with you probably feels so safe that kissing you goodbye was just the natural thing for him to do in his mind. I’m willing to bet that he didn’t even realize what he had done at first. And he’s probably having the exact same conversation we’re having with Stiles right now, because you’re both morons. And I mean that in the most affectionate way possible. You two are literally perfect for each other, so the next time you’re with him just talk to him about it.” I removed my hands from Kira’s arms, patting her on the shoulder a bit. “And if that’s too hard, you can, I don’t know,” I shrugged, “just grab his face and kiss him. A real kiss. With lots of tongue.”
Kira blushed slightly, removing a strand of hair that had fallen in her face. “Okay,” she said timidly.
I grinned, throwing my arm around her shoulder and moving her with me. “Now come on. We have lacrosse tryouts to get to, and Malia’s waiting for us by the stands.”
Stiles
“Hurry up, you pathetic weasels! There’s no price for running the slowest!” Valerie’s encouraging words rang across the field as we all ran laps around it.
Coach blew his whistle and looked down at his timer as the last of us ran across the invisible finish line. “Terrible. Horrifying. Pathetic. Unbelievably pathetic. Is that everyone?” I fell down to the ground just across the finish line, panting my lungs out. “Yep, that’s everyone.”
Valerie hoisted me up, way too easily for me to have any shred of dignity left, wrapping my arm around her shoulder.
“Who came in first?” I asked with difficulty, as I was still very out of breath.
Valerie nodded towards Liam, who was doing push-ups on the grass now.
“Is he even human?” I asked. “What is he, like, a were-cheetah? Does it even exist? Is that a thing?”
Valerie rolled her eyes. “How the fuck am I supposed to know?”
“I’m gonna puke, take me somewhere.”
“Okay, come on.”
I stomped down the line in front of the goal, having just blown my shot. I stood next to Scott, trying to ignore the laughter that was coming from the rest of the guys on the field. Liam “perfect at everything” Dunbar was next, picking up the ball perfectly and aiming the stick towards the goal.
“You know, maybe he’s only good in goal,” I said. “You know, just totally useless on the rest of the field.”
Liam made the perfect shot, the ball flying past the goalie’s shoulder and into the net.
I set myself up for that one.
“Maybe he’s just perfect at everything,” I grunted. “I hate this kid!”
Scott, ever the true alpha, said, “You don’t have to hate him. The team needs new players.”
“Yeah? What about a new team captain?”
That one got to him. Scott walked ahead in line, picked up a ball and swung the stick back. The ball hit the side pole and bounced out of the goal.
Laughter rippled from the guys on the field again. Garret, ever the considerate teammate, said, “Nice, McCall!”
“Shut up, Garret!” Valerie and I said in unison.
We continued taking turns down the line to shoot at the goal. I missed every one, which was expected. What wasn’t expected, however, was that Scott Former Captain and True Alpha McCall sucked just as bad as I did.
“Dude,” I asked, flailing my hand towards Scott as he stomped away from the line, throwing his gloves on the ground, “What is going on with you?”
“I don’t know,” he said. “I’m having a really off day.”
“Off day? You were dying out there! I feel actual physical pain watching you.”
“Hey, Scott!” shouted Valerie as she walked towards us. “How come you suck again?” I flailed my arms towards her to emphasize her point.
Scott glared at me. “I didn’t see you make any shots.”
I nodded. “Yes, that is because I’m terrible, though, Scott. You, you are the alpha.”
Scott shook his head. “Not on the field. I’m human on the field.”
“Well, human-you is kind of sucking at the moment. So do you think there’s any way you could use, like, a tiny bit of wolf power?”
“You know,” Valerie placed a hand on my shoulder and gestured between Scott and I with her clipboard, “what you two are doing right now is discussing cheating, and as the Assistant Coach I should really tell him what you’re doing,” she said, nodding towards Coach.
I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, and as the Assistant Coach you also shouldn’t be writing song lyrics on your clipboard during practice, but that doesn’t stop you either,” I quipped back.
Valerie gasped, holding the clipboard protectively against her chest. “How’d you know?”
“Please, I’ve known for almost a year. You need to step up your game, Thomas.”
“She’s right though,” said Scott, sighing. “It is cheating.”
“I know it is!” I groaned. “I just… hate seeing this little freshman come in and steal all your glory after you worked your tushie off. I hate it.”
“He’s not gonna steal all the glory,” said Scott. Just then cheers erupted from the other side of the field as Liam scored yet another goal. Scott’s eyes locked on the guy, and they glowed alpha red.
Valerie
Coach blew his whistle. “Hustle!” he screamed as the boys gathered in a half circle in front of us. “McCall, and Stilinski, grab the long sticks! You’re covering goal for two-on-one. Let’s go, line it up!”
Scott and Stiles grabbed the long sticks and made their way towards the goal while the rest of the guys lined up in front of them. Garret was first up. At the blow of Coach’s whistle he scooped up the ball and ran towards the goal, but Scott and Stiles (mainly Scott) managed to stop him.
Coach cheered. “That’s my boys!” he shouted as Scott and Stiles high fived. “Those two are like sons to me.”
Dude in green shirt and dude in blue Nike shirt followed (I hadn’t been bothered to learn their names), and Scott and Stiles managed to block them too. Each time they succeeded, Stiles turned to look at me to see my reaction. It was sort of adorable.
Liam was next. I could practically feel the tension rise in the air as he readied himself, and I held my thumbs in anticipation, hoping that the boys could take him. Coach blew the whistle and Liam sprinted forward. Stiles ran to meet him, but Liam evaded, and he fell to the ground. Scott was next, but Liam evaded him too. An instant groan escaped my mouth as he shot the ball right into the net.
“That was luck!”
I turned around at the familiar voice, and saw that Malia had stood up from where she and Kira were sitting in the stands. Oh no, Malia. Don’t get involved.
“Do-over!” she shouted again, cupping her hands around her mouth.
Coach sighed. “Sweetheart, there’s no do-overs. This is practice.”
“Ten bucks on Scott and Stiles!” Malia boasted, changing her strategy.
I grinned, and a serious look overtook Coach’s face. “I’ll take that action,” he said. “Hey, get back in there Liam!”
The boys retook their positions, and the tension was thicker than ever. Coach blew his whistle and they took off. Liam managed to dodge Stiles, but when he got to Scott, Scott’s head connected with his thighs and Liam flew up over his shoulders before crashing on the ground. There’s a definite cracking sound when he lands, followed by groans of pain leaving his mouth.
My eyes blew wide and I followed Coach who was running towards the boy. “Don’t move! Don’t touch him!” Coach shouted at Scott and Stiles who had taken off their helmets and were looking down on Liam in worry.
“I’m okay Coach,” said Liam from down on the ground. “I’m alright.”
“Yeah right, you are,” I said, my tone of voice harsh but worried. Liam locked eyes with me for a second before his cheeks grew red and he looked down again.
“Ah! Aaah!” Liam screamed in pain – only proving me right – as Scott and Stiles picked him up by swinging his arms across their shoulders so he wouldn't have to stand on his injured leg.
“I think we better get him to the nurse,” said Stiles.
Coach nodded, and Scott and Stiles bagan taking Liam off the field.
“I’ll help them,” I said, but Coach stopped me by holding out his arm.
“No. I need you here.” He pointed at the jocks huddled behind us. “You guys, take– take a lap! Run ar– Start running around the field! STUPID!” Coach picked up the lacrosse ball from the ground and threw it in anger. The ball soared directly towards Malia’s face, where she was sitting in the stands. Luckily, Kira – who was holding a lacrosse stick for some reason, managed to catch it just in time.
“Oh,” said Coach simply as he realized what he almost did. Then his face morphed into his thinking expression as he realized what Kira had done. “Wow! Nice catch.” He gave Kira a thumbs up, who’s surprised expression made her look like a scared baby deer again. “Throw it back!”
Kira stood up and threw the ball. It flew forward and hit Coach right in the stomach. I had to hold back a laugh as he fell down on the ground in pain. Kira didn’t share my amusement, though. She looked absolutely horrified.
“You!” Coach croaked, pointing at me. “Ask her if she’s ever played lacrosse.”

Marlow's mother Claudia died when she was seven, prompting the little girl to hide her true emotions from everyone. She toughens up and spends more time with her best friend Mason Hewitt, whom she met in kindergarten. When the two are out on a camping trip with Mason's family, ten-year-old Marlow comes across a scary man with red glowing eyes. He bites her, and, suddenly, her whole life is turned upside down. Then her brothers best friend Scott McCall is turned into a werewolf and Marlow tries to help him navigate his new normal while keeping her own predicament under wraps. She is relegated to research duty, having Mason help her under the guise of making up a story. Two years pass and after losses, battles, and goodbyes, Marlow finally starts attending Beacon Hills High School with Mason. Once there, she is very quickly cast aside, her brothers' antics once again casting a shadow over her. Then she meets Liam, and there is a spark. Then Liam is bitten by Scott and Marlow wants to kill both him and her brother for screwing with Liam at every twist and turn. Slowly the two start to fall for each other and then they get together...until Hayden Romero steps into the picture.

A Redemption Earned Ch 1
Tumblr media
No official pairing yet. Future Heather Dunbar x reader. Jackie Sharp x OC (Nat). Past Heather Dunbar x OC (Nat) Warnings: language, mentions of past bad behavior, alcohol consumption, an angsty flashback. (The faceclaim/other girl in pics is Becca, for reference).
Returning to D.C had always been something on Heather’s ‘to do’ list, but it was still something she felt massively unprepared for. She’d attempted a return nearly five years ago, but things simply hadn’t worked out, she wasn’t ready, hadn’t done enough work, so she relocated once again. But now, a case had come up, one that required someone with her experience and skill set, even being in the family law jurisdiction, she was the one everyone wanted on it. She hadn’t been far, the drive into Washington not taking that long, but she’d been thrown right into things. Her office was far from leased, much less set up, she’d be opening her own firm branch, a sister branch to the one she’d been at these past five years, but in her familiar Washington territory. Which meant it had to be a prime location, have enough space for multiple attorneys and up to her expectations if she was heading it.
All of that considered, and that she was freshly back in the city, she was living out of an Airbnb at the moment. It was at least a suite so she was able to set up a mock office there for working through the case and trying to pull in other business and do whatever else she needed. However, it wasn’t in the state to want a client in there, things were a little bit of a hectic disaster. She was still trying to figure out if she was even going to start up the firm and move back to Maryland, or if she would be able to stay in D.C this time, everything was still a little up in the air, but right now her focus was this case, and meeting with her client.
Which is how Heather found herself walking from the car and around the corner to The Capital Grille. It was fine dining, proving both that she was worth the rate she was charging, and that her client wasn’t about to shy away from something on the fancier end. It was also a near half hour drive away from The White House, far from capitol hill, and out of territory that she figured she’d run into anyone who had the potential and desire to humiliate her. It was simple enough to check in at the hostess stand, she only had to wait a few moments for someone to come up to her and say her table was ready and to follow them. Her phone buzzed, pulling her attention and gaze down to it as she followed the host, winding through the restaurant.
*
“Oh come on!” Becca exclaimed, swatting her hand across the table to her father, “you know I’m right!” A wide smile was on her cheeks as he nodded, his laugh growing louder through the grille.
Beside Becca, Nat rolled her eyes, a laugh still echoing on her cheeks as she shook her head, taking the time to glance away from her best friend as movement through the restaurant caught her eye. The laugh stopped, and her eyes widened, her hand darting out to clasp around Becca’s wrist, pulling her attention from teasing her dad.
“Oh my god.”
“What?” Becca asked, her brow furrowing as she followed Nat’s sightline, “fuck!” She whispered.
“Did you know she was back?”
“How the fuck would I know that?”
“She sends you holiday cards?” Nat suggested, their whispers getting more frantic and quieter as Heather got closer, “not to mention she’s your mother.”
“I only opened them to make sure I wasn’t burning money!” She hissed back.
Across the table from Tasha, Rob’s laughter paused, a brow raised at the two girls, “I’m assuming I shouldn’t turn around right now?”
“Not if we don’t want her to know we’re talking about her.” Nat murmured.
“Think it’s a little late for that.” Becca picked up her glass, muttering into it as she tried not to look over at her mother as she was presented with a table.
*
Halfway through the dining room Heather froze, first stumbling in her steps then full-on stalling. That laugh. She knew it. And there was absolutely no doubt where she knew it from.
Twenty-nine years of marriage would do that to a person.
She said a silent prayer, then glanced up from her phone, searching for the direction Rob’s laugh came from, hoping it was a work thing, or even better, that he was alone. She wasn’t entirely sure how things would progress if he happened to be on a date. It didn’t take long to find the table, Becca was deep into a now hushed conversation, Natasha sitting beside her. Of fucking course Nat had to be there too, running into one ex wasn’t karma enough, she needed to run into her ex-sugar baby too. The one who had somehow ended up a part of her family while she was basically banished.
The hostess suddenly spoke, dragging her attention away from the table, the one they were seating her at a mere one table over from. She flashed them a small smile, waving them away before they could try and ramble on about specials and drink features. She dared a glance over to the table filled with people from her old life and this time accidentally caught Rob’s eye, who, rather than glancing away, gave her a warm smile and a nod of the head that she returned. A brief glance around the table and she was met with a professionally polite smile from Nat, no doubt perfected from her five years as the VP’s chief of staff, and an awkward look from Becca.
Heather settled herself on the side of her table that the girls were at, knowing if she accidentally caught eyes with anyone again, Rob was the best bet. She pulled out the case file, making sure her phone was on the table in case she got any work calls, and was quick to order a glass of wine when the server came by. It wasn’t often that she drank anymore, but all things considered. She needed some sort of buffer.
*
“You haven’t heard from her?” Becca’s hushed voice asked Nat who shook her head, “I mean, you were the one who never actually blocked her number?”
“Yeah, but once she found out Jackie was a legit thing, she backed off, disappeared aside from that one run in like, five years ago when I picked up a shift at Salt Line.”
“And like, nothing? No texts? No her creeping your social media or anything?”
“Girls…” Rob nearly chuckled, “this is starting to sound like a teen drama on showtime…”
“Sorry.” Nat murmured, sitting back in her chair, “just…really unexpected. Wait…have you heard from her?”
“No.” He sighed, pausing for a drink, “a couple of relatives called when my dad passed, but that was it. I get the same cards as Becca does. She’s probably back for legal work, who knows if she’s staying, but I think it’s best if we all remain polite and friendly. It’s not like either party searched out the other, it was a by the chance run in.”
“Yeah…” the two younger girls replied, thankful for the distraction of appetizers arriving, having something to focus on aside from Heather ten feet away from them.
It wasn’t that anyone was particularly angry at the other anymore, it had been six years since everything blew up. The table of three only had to look at Heather to know that either things had changed, or she was at least appearing that things had. She looked more modest, still properly put together, but less attention grabbing than all those years prior. Before everything went to shit, she would’ve marched right up to the table, been full of remarks and come on too strong.
Instead, she smiled softly, and settled in at her own table, distracting herself with the menu as she tried to forget that night all those years ago….
**
The door slammed shut behind her, the noise echoing through the vastly empty and trashed house. Heather had tried everything she could, Becca wanted nothing to do with her for nearly a decade already, and now Rob had blocked her number. The man who made a vow to be with her til death, the one she thought no matter what happened, would be by her side, had turned his back completely.
Although…. all of that was one hundred percent her fault, and she had no one to blame but herself. At least she realized that much right now.
She thought she had one last resource, that maybe, just maybe, Nat would crumple, would see how far Heather had fallen from grace, and rethink saying no. She knew Natasha had enjoyed their time together, that it had been hard for her to cut Heather off at first, there was something there still, making the girl drift back towards her. But when Heather had shown up at her apartment that night, she was blindsided by Jackie. It wasn’t just Jackie being there, she’d been prepared for that, their relationship was all over the tabloids already, but that’s all she thought it was. A media relationship, not one where Nat actually loved Jackie…one that would send Heather packing.
Heather dumped everything by the front door, kicking out of her shoes, her phone managing to stay in her hand as she moved through the eerily empty house. Tears were already blurring her eyes, the self hatred burning through her. Then she tripped over something, swearing loudly, a frustrated ‘FUCK’ yelled through the house. As she glanced back and down to what was in the way, and a choked sob bounced off the walls, a pair of Jordan’s shoes strewn on the floor carelessly.
It was something that she’d normally grumble over, yelling out to her son to try and fucking pick up after himself. She’d usually toss them back towards the welcome mat, or the bottom of the stairs for him to put away himself. Tonight, instead, she was reminded that he was gone forever. And not in the way everyone else was. She still had a chance at hopefully getting her family, friends and career back, but Jordan was dead. And she was slowly realizing that it really was because of her, the way she’d let him do whatever he wanted, how she’d shoved his wrong doings under the rug and made sure he was never responsible for them. She’d never see her son again, only a slab of stone in a windy field, and that was probably the closest thing to family she would have for years, if not ever.
Heather absolutely hated herself that night, everything about her was a fucking joke, and it was all because of her. She managed to grab the bottle of scotch from the liquor cabinet before she dropped to the kitchen floor, tears taking over her face, blurring her vision completely. Large gulps of amber liquid burning its way down her throat as she tried to forget. She’d been on track for one of the best political careers in the last fifty years, and everything had come crashing down. Because she wasn’t able to stay faithful to her husband, she had to be the one seeking out young and vulnerable girls to take advantage of. She actually had a decent chance of becoming president of the United States until her secrets and dirty laundry were aired for the entire world to see. Then again, it was her fault that her husband found out about the affairs, it was her fault that she physically assaulted Natasha, and once on camera.
She choked back another cry, her hand coming to cover her face, attempting to wipe away a few tears before taking a swig of scotch. She wished she could take it back, that at least she could have controlled herself in public, that the arguments could have waited until they were private. Nat had nothing to do with Jordan’s death, she was simply protective of Becca and stepped in at the worst moment. Not that Heather wanted to hit her daughter, she was caught up in months of emotions she hadn’t been able to process. But right now, she was still mad, and as much as she knew it was her fault, part of her still blamed everyone else.
Heather hated that the sun was still up, she felt like the way she was feeling deserved darkness, but the world was still awake, and she hated it. Grabbing a paper napkin from the counter she wiped at her face, blowing her nose before taking another large swig of scotch. Taking a heavy breath, she thought about what she still had, what she could look forward to, how she could move on. Her law licence was still active, it had to have been while she was solicitor general, and she’d kept it after that to help out friends whenever needed. She would have to fall back on that the next few years and try to keep her political law career afloat while she herself tried not to drown. That thought calmed her a little bit, reminding herself that she had something to fall back on.
As the sun began to sink in the sky, and the scotch moved through her body, she thought about calling her mother. She’d only left that morning, but always seemed to know what to say and do, she’d been the only one helping Heather through the funeral process, through the process of losing her son. With a heavy sniffle, and the desire of some kind of comfort, Heather reached out, picking up her phone. Though that was then she noticed a handful of notifications via email and a couple of other apps, a text from an old partner at her old firm before she moved up.
‘I know things are shit, but check your email’
‘Heather…I’m so sorry, especially if rumours are true….’
“What?” She muttered, taking another swig of scotch before flipping to her email app. A dramatic gasp leaving her lips when she found it.
She wasn’t being called before the bar, they’d already made their decision. She’d violated a very heavy rule when she, as a prosecutor had made Jordan’s DUI disappear. Not to mention the other shady legal shit she’d secretly done over the years. Her fall-back plan was gone. She no longer had a law licence, for a year at least.
She’d really done it…she quite literally had nothing left.
“FUCK!” Heather shouted, her phone wasn’t just thrown, but plummeted across the room, smashing into the glass door hard enough to crack both it and the phone screen. Her life was fucking over.
She convulsed into sobs, something she never thought she even could, she hadn’t felt this much emotion in years. Which, made it all worse, she yelled, screamed, sobbed….for hours, wishing she had someone to turn to, but knew there was nothing.
It was only hours later, her body completely exhausted, the bottle of scotch now empty that she sniffled, glancing up around the room. Her head tilted at the sight of a folded card under the island, wondering if it was something she’d dropped, or a weed dealer of Jordan’s she shifted forward, pulling the card out. She couldn’t help but laugh at the card reveal. It was the one that Rob had left with her a few weeks after serving her with divorce papers. It had multiple names and phone numbers on it, therapists and psychiatrists, ones that he thought could help her.
She nearly crumpled it, wanting to toss it down the garburator and pretend it never existed. But Natasha’s voice rang through her brain,
“Heather…please…talk to someone…you need it…”
The card turned over in her hands a few times, blurred by her tears before she let out a small huff, figuring if that many people thought therapy was right, maybe she should stop listening to her mother and those who made more sense.
She cried herself to sleep that night.
And the next morning set up an appointment with a therapist, and a following two days to clean out the house before her real estate agent showed up so that she could rent the place out in the meantime.  She may have been broken and had no idea were to go or what to do, but she knew a change was needed, and there were plenty more to come.
**
Becca, Rob and Tasha were working their way through their meal, appetizers finished, drinks refilled, doing their best to not look over to Heather’s table too much, or talk about her in order to give her privacy.
Heather on the other hand was still working through her case file, trying to have as much organized as possible before her client showed up. Right as she closed the file, taking a sip of wine, her phone pinged and upon reading it, she let out a frustrated groan. It was right as her server had come around, so she asked for the bill to be settled, it was only when the young man asked if he wanted her entrée to go or to be scrapped that a voice rang out from beside her.
“She can join us.” Rob offered, only after looking at the girls who nodded. Heather’s brow furrowed, her head tilting as she looked at the table,
“Are…you sure?” her gaze moved through all three of them who nodded and gave their approval before she stood.
Trying not to be awkward, she picked up her glass of wine, moving over to the table, taking a place beside Rob and across from Becca.
“Thanks…”
“Just because you got stood up doesn’t mean you should have to miss out on enjoying a nice meal.” Rob commented quietly and Heather scoffed a laugh.
“I was meeting a client!” she sucked back some wine, “dating is the last thing on my mind right now.”
“So… you are back?” Becca asked cautiously, digging into her food as a distraction.
“For now, yes.” She let out a soft sigh, “I picked up a case in this jurisdiction, and the sister firm in Baltimore I’ve been working for wants me to head an office out here. Somehow the Dunbar name still holds some positive meaning and they think it would be a good idea.”
“Are you still family law?” Nat asked over a bite of her meal and Heather nodded.
“Strictly. As much as I would love to dip back into the waters of political law, I know it’s not a good idea, and honestly, I really do enjoy the work I’m doing now.” She was pleasantly surprised with how open the younger woman seemed to be with her, all things considered, she’d figured she would have gotten the cold shoulder, then again, Nat had five years of political bullshit under her belt now. There was no doubt she could fake her way through an uncomfortable situation. Either way, it was helping to calm the fluttering in her chest. “I’m kind of surprised you can even be here?” she raised a brow and Nat nodded her head to the left,
“Secret service is three tables over.”
“Ah.” Heather glanced over, now noticing the hidden in plain sight officers, her gaze then drifting over the rest of the table, landing on Becca this time, “what’s with the side eye?” she asked softly and Becca nearly snorted.
“Maybe because the last time the four of us were all together you punched someone in the face.”
“Becca!” Rob chastised as Nat blushed, her eyes darting down to her food in an attempt to avoid the subject entirely. Heather felt her chest tighten, letting out a small sigh as she glanced over towards Nat,
“And I will never be able to apologize enough for that Natasha.”
“Ooohh!” the younger woman practically gasped, and Heather flinched that it sounded like disgust, “please, the only person that calls me Natasha is Underwood.”
“I…figured Nat was too personal, and the last thing I want is to impose.”
“Just…” the younger woman shrugged, “go with Tasha, a happy middle ground.” She took a sip of her drink, “and…the rest of that… is a conversation for another time.”
“Of course.” Heather nodded, letting out a sigh of relief at the knowledge that that door was open for communication, and that hopefully she would be able to show that she wasn’t the same person who had hurt Nat those years ago. A buzzing vibrated against the table and Tasha was quickly distracted with her phone,
“Fuck…” she muttered, “I’ve got to go.”
“Oh c’mon, just pretend you never got it!” Becca protested, partially not wanting to be left alone with just family.
“I can’t exactly ignore the Oval Becks.” She replied, beginning to gather her things, pressing a kiss to the top of the girl’s head before turning to Rob, “thanks for lunch. It’s on us next time.”
“Friday, right?”
“Yeah.” She turned back to Becca, “you’ll be there?”
“Yes.”
“And uh…” She glanced to Heather, “I’ll…get in touch, maybe? I’ll need to talk to Jackie...”
“The ball will always be left in your court.” Heather assured, giving her a soft smile.
“Thank you.” With a smile returned, and a small wave to the table, Natasha whisked from the restaurant.
There was a bit of an awkward pause, family now left with only each other as the waitress came by to refill waters. Heather’s shoulders slumped at the way Becca was stabbing at her pasta, she knew that this wasn’t going to be easy, she wasn’t going to be welcomed back with open arms. And for it to be sprung on all of them out of nowhere certainly wasn’t helping. She couldn’t help watching Becca, examining how much she’d grown up, a pang of guilt shooting through her. She’d missed so much of her children’s lives already, leaving the help to raise them and then shipping them off to boarding school, now she’d missed the last six years because she’d fucked everything up. There was no opportunity to watch Jordan grow anymore, and Heather made a silent vow to herself in that moment that as long as Becca wanted it, she wanted to be a part of her daughter’s life again, and this time a real part. She watched Becca let out a heavy sigh, dropping back in her chair and taking a hefty swig of her cocktail.
“I hope you know that I truly am sorry about how I treated you, both of you, and about everything.” Heather spoke quietly, her voice much softer than the other two were used to hearing it. It was a surprise for both of the adults when it was Becca who replied first, her gaze still trained on her drink as her straw stabbed at the ice cubes.
“I know.”
“But…” Heather started, wondering where this was coming from, and why she hadn’t heard it earlier. Becca let out another little sigh, leaning forward against the table.
“When you first started sending cards it was the same old bullshit, a wad of cash or way too large cheque, half the time the only actual handwritten thing was your signature, or your initials. I gave all the money to dad to help fund his research grant. Then a couple of years ago there was a shift, you actually wrote little messages, and I could tell it was you, not some assistant spewing off generalized bullshit. Then Gramma called me out of the blue all pissy in a huff that you weren’t returning her phone calls anymore, it was clear you’d cut her off. You also kept your promise and never reached out to Nat, which…honestly…I thought you’d be hounding her for years, even with Jackie around.”
“That was it?” Heather asked quietly and Becca shook her head.
“Last year on my birthday you wrote a full-page letter, and signed the card ‘Love, Mom’.” Becca glanced up across the table and Heather could see the starting of a misting of tears in her eyes, “you hadn’t told me you loved me since my thirteenth birthday….”
“Oh god…” Heather’s hand flew to her mouth, “I didn’t….I didn’t even realize…”
“Yeah…there was a lot you didn’t even realize you were doing. I read that letter like, twelve times. It kinda felt like I actually had a mom for once.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“I know.” She huffed lightly once again, “and there’s part of me that does accept your apology, at least for that.”
“I was an absolutely terrible mother. Looking back there were so many things I wish I had never done. I wish I was more involved in your lives, that I actually carved out the time that you needed from me. I’m hoping that you’ll give me a chance now? I’d really like to get to know you again. The real you.”
Becca glanced between her parents, lingering more on her father, hoping for some guidance. She knew that Heather had definitely improved, and that she’d been working on herself, she could tell that based on the letters, and her behaviour today. Rob gave the tiniest nod of assurance that he trusted her to do the right thing and Becca’s gaze moved back to Heather.
“Yeah… that could be nice.”
“Thank you.” Heather did the best to breathe in the tear of relief that was threatening to fall, “there’s a…luncheon, mixer, thing they’re hosting next week that I’ve been invited to. If you’re free, maybe you could join me?”
“Eww, one of those stuffy gala things?”
“No.” She laughed this time, “it’s much more casual. I’m sure they’d even be fine if you showed up in jeans.”
“How would you know; you don’t own any jeans.” Becca teased with a small grin on her face and Heather playfully rolled her eyes, watching the way Becca’s eyes narrowed slightly, seemingly examining her.
“What?”
“Nothing.” The girl replied, taking a sip of her drink, “I’m just trying to figure out if those are blonde highlights or if you’re going grey.” Heather let out a slightly offended scoff, but it was accompanied by a laugh.
“It’s....blonde highlights….to cover up the grey…” she murmured into the rim of her glass, causing Becca and Rob to chuckle.
“You’re making progress. You would’ve bitten my head off for something like that before.”
“I’m doing as much as I can. Believe me.”
“I do.”
It was for the second time that meal that a phone went off, buzzing on the table top and Heather let out a soft sigh, folding her napkin onto her plate.
“If I don’t get going I’m going to miss this next meeting.” She pushed back her chair, surveying the other two, “thank you, for letting me join today. I hope I get to see you again soon.”
“Oh”—Becca’s hand darted across the table, snatching her mom’s phone. Practically a ploy to see if Heather would snatch it back or get defensive about Becca potentially going through her private phone. Heather instead said nothing, watching as the girl scrolled through a few things, typed something in and then handed it back to her, “text me…about that luncheon thing. Could be fun.” She shrugged and Heather smiled softly at the two of them.
“It could. I’ll see you around.” With another wave to the two and a quick goodbye, she left the restaurant. Back at the table, Rob turned back to his daughter, a curious expression on his face.
“Well?”
“She didn’t insist on picking up the cheque.” She offered and he laughed.
“Moving in the right direction.”
“One step at a time….”
