Meet my silly little thang lovingly dubbed Shroomp by my friend. She is the new iteration of my persona Salty/Saltsour I've had for years atp, Salty was pretty outdated. It was very important to get Shroomp right since nonetheless Saltsour has established herself in several online spaces including this one and was honestly pretty iconic! I put a lot of effort into her successor since I wanna start being a storytime ytber in the near future and maybe even a vtuber on twitch.

She was originally supposed to be realistic and humanoid like Salty herself but I found her a bit too uncanny for a main sona. (And mainly rendering a realistic fish tank everytime I wanted to color in my persona would certainly prove to be hell, I needed something simpler, but also along the way I realized, something DIFFERENT)

Now to talk a bit more about what she actually represents that's so important to me. I packed her full of little things that make me happy.
Obviously the entire mecha genre, everything cyborg, machine, robot, give it to me. Especially if it's uncanny but also sometimes silly, a bit of both worlds.
The era of semi-early internet post 2010s. I hold Windows Vista and 7 in high regards. Things like notations on YouTube seem so far away now nobody knows what I'm talking about when I'm explaining how annoying click Xs on all of them was!

Small story time!
So back in 2013, I studied game art at this vocational education. One of my personal projects for the education's portfolio courses, I was making a model of Zlatomir #mandatory3Dblorbo and I went through the entire workflow a typical artist would do in the industry; Concept art, sculpt, low poly, rig and skinning. One of the educators there had recently gotten into 3D printing and he was having a lot of fun just testing a bunch of prints. Then he got the idea to have a little contest; show off a print-friendly sculpt you had made, get votes, winner gets a 3D printed sculpture. So I made my edits and submitted. I didn't win, but it was really fun to see the entries and the actual print of the winner in the end! - Years goes by, I work as a game artist for a while, realize I don't like working with it, get my existential crisis, and decide to enroll to the same vocational education but specialize myself to a technical artist. This educator with the 3D printer was still working there (and now directly as my own educator). One day he announced that he set up a table at the school's kitchen with various 3D prints he made over the years, telling people to pick anything they fancy because he would throw them out otherwise. Some were abstract geometrical shapes, some were duplicates (or misprints haha) of that winner's entry, and some where just of a various different sculpts from other students. It was neat to examine them, but I didn't end up taking any of the offerings. Then I go to my desk, and I was met with a small surprise; There was a 3D printed Zlatomir bust next to my keyboard. There was a post-it underneath it, that just said something in the lines of "Didn't you make the sculpt for this one?" It was so wholesome and unexpected. Not only is there a blorbo print on my desk I never expected to ever see, not only did my educator actually remember it belonged to me even though at the time he was not my educator, not only that he randomly decided he wanted to use my sculpt as a little guinea-pig outside of the contest, but also that he set it aside from the rest of the prints he was giving out to make sure I had dibs for my blorbo. So many levels of wholesomeness

Newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reports that the City of Helsinki is purchasing curtains worth 72,309 euros for the under-construction Roihupelto campus of the Helsinki Vocational College. The curtains will be supplied by textile firm Vallila, which submitted the lowest bid.
The large-scale campus, one of Helsinki's biggest building projects in the coming years, will eventually house 4,500 students in a 44,000 square-meter facility. Due to the campus's size, 720 meters of curtains are needed — much more than usual. The cost per metre, around 100 euros, is standard.
"Typical curtain purchases are around 10,000 to 20,000 euros," said Suvi Ketene, Procurement Manager of the city's Education and Training Division. However, this larger order is proportionally priced.
The order includes installation and consists of four fire-safe curtain types in shades of brown, orange, and teal, all made of polyester.
Construction of the Roihupelto campus began in summer 2022 and is set to finish by the end of 2025. Built under a lifecycle model, the contractor Lujatalo will also handle maintenance for the next 20 years.
Finn-on-Finn fouls
The Stanley Cup finals are currently underway in the US between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers, and tabloid Iltalehti covers the third game.
While the first two games of the series were overtime nailbiters, the series' game in Florida was a one-sided affair for the home team with the final tally 6-1 in favour of the felines.
The Florida Panthers are one of the NHL teams with the highest number of Finns on their roster, while their Albertan opponents only sport one — Kasperi Kapanen.
Kapanen's game ended early with just over four minutes left to play when he cross-checked fellow Finn Eetu Luostarinen on his leg. The incident landed him a two-minute penalty, and the referee also tacked on a 10-minute misconduct penalty, even though the two Finns never dropped their gloves.
Instead of waiting it out in the penalty box, Kapanen headed straight to the locker room. However, before making his way into the tunnel, the Finn got into a heated exchange with a Florida fan.
The third period of the game tallied a total of 122 penalty minutes, with 75 going to the Oilers and 47 to Florida.
Florida now has a 2-1 lead in the series and the next game will be early Friday morning at 3am Finnish time.
Wreck revealed
Swedish-language daily Hufvudstadsbladet reports that researchers from the Forgotten Fleet (Glömda flottan in Swedish) project have identified a long-mysterious shipwreck near Porkkala.
The wreck was previously known as "the warm ship" (Varmbådan in Swedish) as the Falken — a 17th-century warship and smaller sister ship to the famed Swedish ship Vasa.
The Falken ran aground in autumn 1651 while sailing back to Stockholm from Narva after transporting Count Erik Stenbock.
The 35-meter-long pinnace, built in Stockholm between 1630–1631, was smaller than the Vasa but richly decorated, with three masts, ornate carvings and cannon ports. It was used not only in military missions but also to transport nobles, diplomats and even royalty. Notably, the Falken carried the body of King Gustavus Adolphus from Germany to Sweden after his death in the Thirty Years' War.
The wreck was discovered in 1974 but only recently identified by maritime archaeologist Niklas Eriksson of Stockholm University, who studied a 3D model made by the Finnish Maritime Archaeological Society and researched archives to confirm its identity.
The Falken will be a focus of this summer's joint Swedish-Finnish marine archaeology efforts under the Forgotten Fleet programme, which documents Sweden's early naval history during the age of sail.

I'm an artist, and the virtual signal hateboner for AI from non-artists in k-pop community becomes so funny to me, heh. It's because it's ridiculous. "3D artists exist". Yes. And some of them don't know how to draw by hand, they use a computer and mathematical models to create a ball, put on lighting, conjure clouds. Those train models are bought, those trees are bought. Someone has to write a prompt and run AI programme several times until the desired composition is achieved. Someone gets paid in any case. It's like complaining that animation studios must use celluloid and fill in contours with real paints, stroke by stroke, and not with a click of a mouse in an art computer programme.
AI art programmes are harmless by themselves, it's a new technology and a new tool. Here to stay. It's how there are no laws that forbid people from using artists' unique styles, or book buyers and socmed scrollers who buy a book with AI art or repost an AI video which are the problem.
AI is very generic. The fad will pass. There will come a time when everything will just be divided into AI and non-AI, the way it is 2D and 3D in animation. It was never easy to earn money being an artist. Not in the past, not in the present. Before AI there were stock images or full books without illustrations, or photocollages, or reusage of the same old pictures over and over again. A company will find a way to safe on paying an artist.
Heh, I had a client that was super angry that some artists hired for a project gave them AI generated images (the editors wanted them drawn by hand). And another time the editors from another company weren't too educated to tell the difference, although I pointed out to them that the second artist on the project used AI, but in the end they had so many problems with that person, they asked me to finish all the illustrations. You see, some artists want to cut corners and fool their clients as well. K-pop companies may not even be the culprits.
To clarify. I'm very much for people demanding real art (again, AI images are pretty but generic and "plastic"), just it should be phrased differently. AI is not the devil, lack of creativity and fresh ideas is what missing. Therefore, ask for new ideas from idol-companies.
