The start of it all

So, originally the idea was to create two makeup looks so that I could wear them whenever I wanted to try it out but my mind raced with thoughts of what the personalities of the looks could be and my babies were Born!!!

First was Betsy

Betsy Joe Lee started out as just a crotchety southern woman but quickly turned intoooo- a sweet southern woman with eccentric fashion sense (the point is she looks like a hooker, she loves ho/slut/fashion. Eats that shit UP) This bubbly blonde loves her friends, sauerkraut, and heavy makeup. She's the easiest to gain permission to use her nicknames: "Jo-Jo" and "Tessy" Oh, and her silhouette is heavily inspired by PASWG.

Next was Vivienne

Vivienne Rose Grace Carrington was originally the yin to Betsy's yang. She was the sweet one but her personality and previous wardrobe didn't fit the gears that were pumping out lore in my head so some things had to change. Second pass I didn't really care for cause it felt more epic than effortless and didn't portray what I wanted to get across with her, that's when I created THE one. The third one specifically. It said: "glam" it said: "don't talk to me unless you've met the other two and if you hurt them you're getting a heel up your ass." Vivienne takes NO SHIT and she likes to believe that's she's the mature one of the group but she couldn't be far from it when she gets around them. Definitely the hardest to get permission for her nicknames: "Vivi" and "Viv"

Lastly, Phoebe

Phoebe T. Eris wouldn't exist without Vivienne's test colors. When I made that specific one, It didn't feel like Viv but it was also waaaay too cute to just throw it out. Thus! Rave girl Phoebe was born! She's probably the calmest out of the three (probably cause of them edibles she takes*COUGH*) She's the baby of the group both by default and by how she acts and she likes it that way. I'd say she's very easy going to some and intense to others from her "intimidating" fashion sense and love of parties. She craves all things rave, scene, etc. But when she's not DJing or getting down on the dancefloor, she's at home snuggled up with a show on. You can call her by her nicknames: "pheeb" and "bee" or by whatever, she doesn't care.

ignoring all visual staples in the comic and show... if you were tasked with wardrobe for riverdale, which aesthetics would you pull from?

This is difficult, but I love it. For the sake of sanity, I am going to maintain color-coding to some extent. Also, please read my explanations and look at the pictures, because they both add a lot of context.

I will probably only get to one or two characters in this post, but if this gets a good enough reception I will happily continue the series.

Veronica Lodge

For Veronica... I would basically scrap the entire thing and start over new. I want to see a business-savvy teenager, sure, but I also want to see a former Hermes-toting NYC socialite who knows how to party. How do you marry those two concepts? The outfits do not all need to 100% represent every aspect of her, but her wardrobe should.

Though Riverdale (the show) fully embraces camp, Veronica's outfits should always look somewhat effortless. We should get the impression that her wardrobe is endless, and wardrobe is second nature, though it doesn't have to be tasteful. She would embrace a high-low aesthetic fairly often (think: perfectly undone waves and a white tee with a vintage Chanel skirt, or pair of black ankle boots with a delicate lace number and pearls.)

Veronica is a trendsetter and early adapter because she has her finger on the pulse. There is no excuse for these tired PDA mom looks. Here are aesthetics I would pull from when styling her:

Clueless/90s Academia Prep Revival

This is a girl who name-dropped Cruel Intentions! She knows these references. These looks are not only chic and young, but they scream 'old money' while also fitting into the Riverdale 50s academia undertones. We get to keep Veronica's signature stuffiness- but with the addition of casual pieces, a sense of novelty, and lots of upper thigh, we get a youthful, refined, sexy aesthetic. Unfortunately, most of the examples I used are not in the desired color palette, and many of them are cheapo material, but let's use our imaginations.

Y2k Socialite/It Girl

I want to see the glitz and glam! Veronica is the kind of girl who's had the $1k sundae at Serendipity 3's more than once, just for the hell of it. Where is the fun?! My immediate thought was Paris Hilton's famous 21st birthday look with the silver dress. Ignoring how she accessorized it, this would be a perfect reference (however inappropriate it would be in a school scene.) I want details like sheers, sequins, glitter, maribou trims, etc. The colors would be more subdued here- washed out metallics and neutrals, mostly. There are ample ways to make this more 'wearable,' but maybe sometimes Party Mode Veronica is too much.

Mob Wife

I know, I know. I was going for minimalism up top! Effortless! What happened? Well, what happened is this is Riverdale, and Veronica is Veronica. All characters in Riverdale are subject to extreme lifestyle changes- and, often, seemingly contradictory traits. In Riverdale, you are only one arc or setting change from a different aesthetic. Veronica is both the daughter of a mobster who tries really, really hard and (should be) the cool fashion girl among her peers. She wears many hats. I am just trying to make sure they're all stylish. Veronica should have a chameleonic quality to her. We should get the impression there are several Veronicas, all of whom had a wardrobe ready for whatever the occasion du jour is. A heist? Dinner with a crime family? Church with daddy? She has the tools necessary for all of these occasions, even if her wardrobe looks a bit contrived. In other words, Veronica didn't just fall out of a coconut tree. She exists in the context of all in which she lives, and what came before her. With this aesthetic, we get to have fun with some European and femme fatale influences.

Business Bitch

This is where Veronica as we know her gets to shine- it is the closest thing to her actual Riverdale aesthetic, but cuntier. You'll see all of the above come together here, as it is the fourth quadrant of her personality. Though this iteration of Veronica would be heavy on the black and white, high contrast thing she already has going (which I love!) there is plenty of room for color... even if the examples I pulled say otherwise.

. Cinderella : Gorgeous soft romantic glam styles with often pastel shades ( style nods to Sue Storm, Grace Kelly and CZ Guest )

Because, while menswear at large has found its inner weirdo, there's been something of a dialling back on red carpets the world over: the fashion theory of gravitational pull, if you will. My Top 3 best dressed Female athletes!

I’ve shown a lot of love to the Male athletes on The Athlete’s Runway so far, I think its time I show some love to some of the best dressed Female athletes out there and give you guys my Top 3! 

3. Sue Bird (Basketball)

For me Sue Bird is one of the most overlooked style icons in sports. Her style is just different. She makes everything look so calm and relaxed, her style is literally effortless. 

Sue’s show collection alone would get her on this list, Dior Jordan 1′s, Jordan 1 all whites, Jordan 4′s and the staple black and white Converses. She also never fails to show off some of the eyewear she has in her collection and they all top off all of her fits so well. Any colour, any print any material, Sue Bird can make it work.

2. Serena Williams (Tennis)

First things first I have to pay homage to the legend of the game that is Serena Williams! 

Serena is one of the most decorated athletes of all time and to go with her accolades she can call herself one of the best-dressed athletes of all time too. She’s appeared on numerous Vogue and GQ covers and even the Vogue runway, as she has shown in the top picture wearing a custom Balenciaga tank dress with a cape in a silver laminated jersey. Not to mention some of her outfits at the Met like the one shown above from 2019 pairing her custom Versace gown with a fresh pair of Air Force 1s.

My number 1 has to be Liz Cambage. Liz is a pioneer in sports fashion. She is a symbol of not just body positivity but also female empowerment. Her 6′8 ft frame does not stop her from putting on a showing every single time. I’ve seen her pull off just about every type of style from comfort sportswear, to casual to glam. It almost creates a story in any garment to princess to goddess depending on the designer.

I really love this work because it is beautiful and almost delicate garments with hours of work performed into one dress to be over in minutes on a runway. To stop and really be captured into a magic and sparkle of this market level.

Iris Van Harpers take on Haute Couture performing a sensational performance on the catwalk lighting up the audience with their breath taking designs. For me Iris Van Harper's work is to create the idea of their work to perform by itself with the fabric almost made to be attached and already on the models making it almost look effortless. Being graceful in Harper's designs.

Schiaparelli perspective of Haute Couture creating an Egyptian take with the eyes and use of gold with the symbols of ancient Egypt making a stunning take of Haute Couture with history inspiring the present. Showing the development of this market level with historic touches with modern designs making beautiful Cleopatra models ready for the crown.

Chanel's performance with the large collection of Haute Couture heavily inspired with each model wearing an individual designed pieces to capture the entrance and movement of Haute Couture with some frilly glittery sparkly and flowy. I really love how it turns from black and white to colour to show the pieces and designs creating a story with movement and power.

Dior's attainment of Haute Couture to symbolise it does not need to be glitz and glam but to focus on the fabric with lace and pattern but still at the same market level with other designers. Creating an elegant traditional take of Haute Couture. Showing something new where Haute Couture is known for celebrities and balls not patterns and how the garments speak for you.
