I was listening to "My Love Mine All Mine" By Mitski and "Let You Break My Heart Again" by Laufey & Philharmonia Orchestra and I thought it fit perfectly in this one-shot/scenario. I got hit in the feelers.

Nights where always quiet when Solor was around. Never would a nightly cricket chirp or a firefly blink in his presence. Those insects just simply bask in his presence below him. Possibly afraid of him or he somehow has a figure of rein over them.

Either way, it made the area around more silent; voidless. Something that anyone should be afraid of. That eerie silence, but did that scare you? No.

It meant that your Knight was around. Ready to protect you once more. To keep you safe under his arms, his sword, but...maybe he would like it the other way around? Have him in your arms, just as he had you in his?

Of course, not protecting him like he could to you. That was far out of your league quite literally. It was imposable to think that one could end up being one of him. He was secrecy, protection, devotion.

He was... him.

Nothing could change that.

The moonlight above him shines brightly, carving Solors face perfectly with its cold tones of light, outlining his face as his pure white eyes glowed just beneath the shadow the moonlight had yet to reach. Then he smiled, lining up superbly with his already enhancing his figure.

Oh, he was such a beauty to look at without the helmet.

"If you prefer to stare, I won't appose you of doing so." He says, like the many times he's done before. Of the many times he has caught me staring. Doesn't he know that he was a spitting image of a god? Doesn't he know how much beauty he holds?

"I could stare at you all night long."

That sentence runs out of your mouth without a thought to be processed. Your eyes to busy admiring every nook and cranny the moonlight shown to you of his shining armor, of his skin. Admiring every dent, every scratch in it as he shifts his weight. His hips moving to the side of him smoothly.

The Knight laughs softly, shaking his head as he comes forward, leaning down to your level. His sudden closeness shaking you out of your admiration as you lean back a little, breaking eye contact with him. Feeling a little embarrassed to have been caught by him once more.

"Oh my little maiden, don't turn those pretty little eyes away from me." He coos, bringing his gauntlet fourth, taking you softly underneath your chin and making you look back at him.

"Let me admire you just as you did to me." He whispers, hot breath fanning against your cheek as his eyes shift to look at your lips then to your eyes and then you kissed him. Surprising him as his eyes widened, short-circuiting him for a second before he relaxed himself, returning your kiss.

The Knight kneels to the ground, placing one gauntlet to the ground for more stability while the other wraps around behind your neck, threading it through the bottom of your hair and holding you in place as breaths became heavy with each quick, beating heart. Yet you pull back.

"Not here. Not now." You huff quietly, out of breath. Your body clinging to his armor. You wanted to admire your Knight, worship him. Thank him for being there for you when no one else was. Make him feel like he wasn't just here to protect you, to bend to your every whim.

He was more than that.

You reach up and drag your hands along his jaw line before giving him a kiss, then following it up with another and another. Lining his whole face with kisses and he can't help but purr at your own form of devotion to him.

He shifts and brings you closer to him. His head nuzzling into your neck, soft purrs still rumbling through his body as you continue your assault of soft, plush kisses to him. Warming his hearts. His soul once more.

Throne, if there was a person in the world who could make him kneel. To make him feel loved, it was you.

It will always be you.

What to Do When You Fall Out of Practice

Recently I fell out of my meditation practice. It's not the first time nor will it be the last. The beginning of 2023 and pretty much all of December was a shitshow. However, by now I have rebooted my practice so many times that I just run the same old drill to get back on track. This time around it occurred to me that some people might benefit from hearing more about the process.

There are many reasons for why our practice may destabilize. Sickness or health challenges, work or school demands, unexpected schedule changes, and traumatic events are just a few such causes.

So what do you do when your practice crumbles?

The most reliable way to ensure you never meditate again is to scold yourself, judge yourself, and be hard on yourself. The moment your meditation sittings are framed as a burden, you will lose the spirit of practice.

Life happens. It's fine. Making any kind of deal about your meditation practice just gets in the way. I treat my practice the same as brushing my teeth. I will elaborate on that in a moment. When we fall out practice, what matters is how we choose to move forward.

Therefore here are the important points to keep in mind when rebooting your practice:

Rebooting is just like starting your practice in the first place. It is easier in that you already know you can do it. It may be harder in that you might feel less enthusiastic about it.

If you aren't feeling enthusiasm about restarting your meditation practice, that's okay. Instead you can regard it like brushing your teeth. This is what I do. It keeps expectations to a minimum so you can leave space for the session to be what it is. When it's time to brush our teeth, we don't have a great deal of expectations on the matter. Also, we do not ask ourselves if we feel like or want to brush our teeth. We just do it.

Evaluate your daily routine and find a reliable time period in which you can sit for practice. Coupling meditation with a daily activity helps consistency. I meditate after I work out; either before or after I shower.

The single most important advice for starting, continuing, or rebooting a meditation practice is doing it daily. Overall it is much more effective and supportive to do a short daily meditation than a longer meditation just a few days per week.

Once you get back to meditating daily, give yourself two or three weeks of consistent practice before adding another five minutes. If that stabilizes, great. If you notice yourself skipping sessions then go back to five minutes less.

The rest is fine-tuning and balancing, which you will be able to discern for yourself. The more you come to regard meditation as a choiceless daily activity like brushing your teeth, the easier it will be to initiate, sustain, and reboot.

I used to meditate an hour a day and I can easily sit for 30 or 60 minutes right now, today. But would I keep that up daily? Unlikely right now. So I am doing something I know I can and will do every day: 15 minutes.

No matter how busy my job and lifestyle has gotten at various times, it is rare that I don't even have 15 minutes to spare. It is a reliable duration.

There is no need to make things more complicated or more difficult than they already are. Work with what you have and move forward from where you are now. Be determined and strategic.

Meditation is something you can do your entire life. It will enhance neuroplasticity and unlock your potential, it will free you from the limiting aspects of your ego, illuminate you with the same light that illuminates every experience of happiness you have ever had, and it will reveal a peace that exceeds your understanding. Oh, and realization and embodiment of enlightenment. 😁

S E 7 E N : A F T E R MA T H P A R T 2 W O

OMG you guys i almost gave up bc tumblr (this time) had erased a huge part of my draft towards the end right as i was typing and about to post.......yo......i did the best i could to retype what i could remember and salvage it. it's still good though...just....soooo annoying. anyhow, part 3 is in the works!

um...bc of the retyping, alot of this is not proofread......also some of this was typed up in my phone and i tend to fat finger some of the keys, so please excuse all of that.

Walking amongst the wild red floral ground, your foot steps are soft and soundless. You admire the view of the moon, as you always have while you take in the landscape of your home. 

Peering up at the peak of the mountain, where your throne sits next to his, you could have flown to the top and made the trip last only seconds, yet it seemed like a night for a walk. Up the stairs, you take one delicate step after another, reminiscing everything that took place within the last year. 

The time went by rather fast, yet all the events that led you to becoming fully immortalized and the aftermath of everything was ingrained in your mind with all the details punching the imagery into your vision. No matter how much time would pass, you’ll always remember the finer lines of each occurrence.

You gracefully walked up each step, delicately and nearly levitating. Even with your wings lying dormant into your own being, your body still experienced amazing leaps and advanced movement.

The business-casual attire you adorned for the mortal realm gradually shifts into different material and form as it extends to the stone ground, developing high slits to expose your legs, the way he likes it. As far as your husband was concerned, the more skin showing for you, the better it was for him. He often vocalized how he loved to see nothing but every inch of your bare nudness…he only wanted to see you. Just you.

Only you….

With the ability to shape-shift your clothing, you dawned the dress he liked on you the most, stating that other than your nude body, the dress he picked out for your to wear in many variations was what made you looked fitting for your title as a Goddess, therefore, if you absolutely felt strongly about clothing yourself, he prefers you wear the dresses he outlined for you.

“My Queen…..you look so beautiful when you wear nothing….but if you have to wear something, I want you to wear these. You’re a Goddess…the child of my former master, therefore you should always look like it…my beautiful girl.”

The flowing dress develops a beige and champagne color. Of all the materials and colors of the dresses with similar pattern, he loved this particular one the most. The dress continues to grow in length, and shifts into a transparent, chiffon material, with a sheer corset-structured bodice that was entirely see through, showing the subtle color and form of your breasts with the twinkling jeweled piercings shining through the mesh element. He also loved that about this gown.

With only the loose straps that hang over your arms loosely, the tightness of the bodice hugs your upper body, stabilizing the true fit, all wrapped with floral lace as the skirt flows wide and freely, making you look like a princess or, a goddess, but far from the goddess of Hell.

You continue to make your way up, gently brushing your hair aside to reveal your collar bones and the skin on your chest. Your dress drags along each step, trailing behind your footprints. You remained barefooted with only the ankle bracelets that he gifted you, among the other pieces of subtle jewelry he decorated your body with.

You took your time delicately walking up towards the peak of the mountain top, yet with your enhanced stamina and lucrative speed, you were reaching the top in no time despite the stairway being miles long. Any other being, whether they emerged from Heaven or Hell, could never travel this far by foot without succumbing to the effects of fatigue, even if it was minor. No demon nor Angel would be able to do what you could do, since you not only shared the same soul as God himself, but you also share the split soul of the one who had taken your mortal life, and blessed you with his own, the Devil himself, Heeseung.

Near the top, you see the pillars that decorated the entire peak, the entry point of his castle. Despite having his own kingdom, his throne, along with yours, was stationed outside, in front of the structured palace, since the view was far better with the red poppies and the glorious moon as the primary features. Of course with the earth off to the West side of the palace, it was an added bonus for whenever you witness the rotation of continents.

A year ago…..

Watching the earth rotate, you watch as each continent on display shifts in rotation, taking turns to relish in in the day, as others sleep at night. Your body had nearly adjusted entirely as you discover the new abilities you’ve gained, laying atop of the platform, the lush velvet fabric comforting your nudeness, the chained cuff delicately wrapped around your ankle, holding a power that, despite its frail appearance, held the strength of immense steel links and restrained you from leaving the parameters of the peak.

Laying on your stomach and chest, your knees propping your feet high as you playfully swing them back and forth, you play with the fortune spheres that he brought in for you. Reflecting the images of the world you no longer belonged to, you were able to examine the visual imagery of your family and the people on their road to recovery. Similar to the Northern Lights, the spheres reflect off a small projection of the scenes, people, and locations you wanted to see. 

As you admired the sight that the spheres projected, your only avenue outside of Hell, you overhear him issue out a deep chuckle as he admired you while you focused on the scenes displayed by the spheres.

Through the miracle of time, you gained more comfort as you took advantage of the slack you had with the ankle chain, and moved around. He’d watch as you get up and stretch your wings, flaring them in their full glory as you stand off to the side of his throne, or when you perched yourself atop one of the large pillars and gazed at the stars directly above.

“Let’s go for a walk, pretty.” 

Knowing that a change of scenery would be much appreciated, a snap of his fingers and the ankle chain would disintegrate into particles of of atomic value, allowing you to walk freely with him through the fiery red poppies he grew. 

Hand in hand, he’d lead you through a delicate made path, allowing you to reach out and graze your fingertips along the petals, or pick them to your hearts content. 

He’d take you to the Pond of Sacred Sin, a tranquil body of water paired with a soothing waterfall, where the water was granite black. Walking barefoot into the pond, cupping the dark liquid in your hands as the material of your dress flows to the surface, you subtly play as you splashed and decorated the pond with the poppies you picked. Despite the water eluding the silver black color, your hands and dress were wet with translucent drops, not at all stained. It was a remarkable feature, everything was. Hell, was remarkable. At least he made it that way….for you. 

Watching you kicking your bare feet as the loose petals all twirled around, carried by the breeze that dragged them towards you, he took in the delight of seeing you become relaxed and losing the timidness that you initially displayed upon situating to your new home. 

There were even some days, where you opted to remain nude as the velvet cushion of your bedding felt soothing against your skin. You would sit yourself in between his feet, wrapping your arm around his calf as he sat in a relaxed position in his throne, peering his gaze down at you. 

Lifting your hair, he’d stroke his fingers through as you rested your head against the side of his knee, the leather of his knee high boots pressed against the nude skin of your breasts as you felt the sensation of his fingers dragging through your strands, so gently, and so lovingly. 

Too lovingly.

There were times, on certain nights when the demons that roamed aimlessly, roared out, submitting their call to the others as they detect your scent, yearning to devour you. Sensing your presence nearby, the demons would escalate their pace, trying to get to you, and once they did, they would meet their brutal demise as Heeseung would slaughter them effortlessly before they could even reach you.

Yet their calling was unsettling, it would frighten you to hear in the wide open air, not being able to detect which direction it came from or how close they were, yet he would always know, and was more than ready to shred them. Regardless that you were immortal and gained special abilities of your own, you were still learning how to use them, despite knowing and understanding this, there was no way Heeseung would ever allow you to sully your hands or leave you to fend for yourself. HE was your protector. HE was always going to save you. HE loved you. HE worshipped you. HE would do anything for you. HE.....would always give you everything, while keeping you isolated and only obtainable, by only him.

Upon waking up and hearing their roars, you’d get up and let the black, transparent material that was loosely wrapped around your waist by a gold chain, drag against the stone tiles as you walked up to his throne. With nothing adorning your upper body, along with the high slits aligned with each leg, your breasts and the upper portions of your thighs were completely exposed. You resembled a fairy, wrapped with tattered mesh and adorned with ancient jewelry.

You not only continued to be, but you were absolutely stunning, always taking his breath away whenever he watched you stand and expose your entire form in front of him.

Taking merely six steps over to his direction, he’d tilt his head and look up when you breached his chair before him, and watch as you gently sit atop his lap, which he delightfully embraced and assisted you in as he cradled you and let your breasts lay against his chest.

You’d rest your chin atop his head as he nuzzled against your chest plate, reaching up and rubbing your neck as he places sweet and delicate kisses over your skin, all the while your hands would find their way and relax on his shoulders, gripping the material of his knee length coat whenever the demons would roar out again.

It didn't matter how often they would cry out in a devouring and frightening manner, he was always there, admiring you and ready to protect you. Sensing that you were comfortable enough to initiate physical contact, he started to lay next to you more often and cradle you in his arms, easing your frightened state as he stroked your back while you slept.

“Niki.” 

“I’m here.”

“Set the entire river aflame, burn the entire lot of the darkened souls, and set guards to eliminate any that survive and escape. They’re drawn to her. That's why they keep wandering around.....they're looking for her.”

Laying atop the platformed bed, you overhear the conversation Heeseung had with the youngest brother as he calmly instructs him to destroy the Rivery Styx, thus ending the torment of facing the wandering and hungry demons. 

“Their screams are what’s scaring her. Get rid of all of them for me, will you?” 

“Consider it done.”

He was too enamored by your presence to think of setting the river aflame sooner, yet once he had Niki burn out the entire region of the River Styx, there were no more demons roaming around, completely easing your conscious.

Tracing the trail of stars in the sky, he’d guide your fingers to outline the patterns of the galaxies and constellations, a routine that happens every single night. 

You never thought it would happen, but as time went by, you start to feel more comfortable around him. Since you spent every second of your life with each other, it was bound to happen, yet initially, you had told yourself to never falter and to remain alert, always finding hope that you'd return to the world you were born in. However, time has a way of changing minds and hearts of people, you were not an exception. You did change your mind and your heart in regards to him.....and he loved what he saw.

Developing a familiar nature around him, you no longer felt uncomfortable by his constant stares, his watchful eyes as he gasps and breathed deeply out of lust whenever you did anything, whether it was shifting your position or blinking. Heaven forbid if you smiled or laughed, that drove him over the edge to the point where you found yourself under him again, sometimes multiple times in a day, where he would render you at the mercy of his love, rough or gentle, whatever he was in the mood for.

To avert your attention from the boredom of just laying around all day, you played peekaboo with him. Lurking from behind his throne, and peeking over from the side, over his shoulder, you would chuckle and laugh whenever he glanced at you with a delightful side eye and smirk as he'd catch you by a gentle grab on your neck, and swing you over on to his lap where he smothered you with soft and passionate kisses, all the while you giggling and teasingly try and push him away, only to witness him looking down at you with a joyful smile and a lovesick gaze. 

One event where you were playing the game, you surprised him...and yourself, by displaying a sudden notion.

It was the moment, where you snuck around to the side of his throne, and quickly snuck a gentle kiss on his cheek.

Perhaps it was the feeling of being too comfortable, or maybe it was Stolkholm Syndrome, either way, you felt elated when it happened as you witness the wide eye'd smile he developed as he slightly gasped and took you out of joy.

Thats when you knew.....you developed love for him....the love that he so yearned for in return, it was now finally here.

All the moments of him slaying the demons, serving and protecting you....

Or the way his black hair laid slightly parted off to the side as he stared at you....sometimes raising a brow whenever he found himself overwhelmed by your appearance.

Maybe it was his deep and low voice whenever he leaned in and moaned into your ear whenever he filled you up with his essence, and marked you as his territory.

"I'm cumming.....fuck."

Maybe it was just him....

Whatever the reason was, you were drawn to him just as he was drawn to you. Before you knew it, you became less tense and more open, developing transparent conversations with him and getting to know more about each other, causing you to build an emotional connection, since he already had one with you. Despite already belonging to him....and physically being ravished by him a hundred times over, you had stonewalled any mere thought of developing a bond with Heeseung.....but when you decided to tear that wall down, you found your days and nights filled with smiles and laughter, no longer crying and begging him to send you back to live with mortals....to have your freedom and your old life back.

His vigor and thirst for sexual interaction was unlike anything you've ever seen. He yearned to be one with you constantly, and never thought twice in taking you, even if you had initially objected. He would be forceful, restraining, and isolate you under his frame, knowing that just a matter of time of him entering, he'd have you moaning out his name, gripping onto his arms and biting your lip for more.

And he'd give it......so much more.

The sexual passion never lost potency, yet there were nights where he maintained the rough and domineering nature of his vigor, and then there were some nights where he, while still maintaining ultra dominance, would be softer and more sensual. He would slowly thrust, going in deep….so deep. 

“I love you….more than you’ll ever know…” 

He would whisper against your lips, all the while holding you up, cradling your bottom as your legs wrap around his waistline, crossing over against his lower back. Both your wings in full display, flaring out in full expansion, his black and your Nacre white, contrast from one another in perfect harmony.  Then the time finally came, where you took the initiative and walked over to his seat, straddled him, and expressed your yearning for him. He was so delighted, that he took a moment to close his eyes and gulp down a few breaths as he rested his forehead against your chest plate, trying to ease down his level of happiness for he didn't want to ruin the sensual moment that you were displaying, along with the comfort of riding his thighs.

He finally had you.....just as you had him.

It didn't matter if he had already expressed your meaning and value, he could have said it earlier, wait five minutes, and say it again and his words would come out just as sincere and strong....if not stronger.

Sometimes, he would say it in various languages, both the ancient and the modern dialect, knowing that since you were adjusting to immortality, you'd instinctively would be able to translate, it was part of your abilities, as was his. For now that you're soul is split into two?.....But then I am reminded.....so is mine. Clever old man, you saw that, didn't you? You knew.....you knew just what I was going to do once I saw her.....and took her. Some might think you brought out your trump card too early, yet I feel you didn't bring her out early enough. All those years.....painfully waiting for her to come.....

You have any idea....any moral sense in just what you have done?....You created this amazing form of flesh, blood, and two souls.....knowing that for the longest time, she cried, she begged, she yearned to be away and escape my grasp. You probably heard her cries, and yet, you do not feel sorry....because you knew that this is what she was meant for. To teach and show me....that love for which you created people for.

I used to harbor such hatred and rage against you....I felt betrayed and hurt.....was it anger that kept me going all those years? Perhaps...yet the moment I found out of her....it was only she who had kept me going. She kept me breathing. She kept me from destroying the very thing you loved, and I loathed. How interesting and ironic, old man.

Were you really that afraid of me? That you had to outdo yourself and take out a piece of your own flesh to gift me.......the very thing that I was wanting to destroy. That flesh...that light....that spirt......I wanted to crush it....torture it......and burn it....

Now that I finally have it, I've done nothing but protect, love, and nurture it. I have admired it....taught it the ways of immortality.....

Is it ever a wonder, why I was so eager once I finally had her in my grasp? Could you or any of your muses blame me? I waited so long to have her.....I couldn't control myself.....even though she was going to spend an eternity with me, it pained me....to great extent, when I killed her mortal spirit.....and gave her half of mine. Your piece of light...forever tainted in half by my own....killed off and dimmed by my burning soul. I guess in a way....I got exactly what I had wished for.

Once upon a time, if someone told you you would be going to a taping of Everything At Once, you would have laughed at them. A variety-talk show hybrid aimed at children wasn't something you ever thought you would be interested in. Once upon a time, you had your whole life together and spread out in front of you, ripe for the taking. You were enrolled in university, living in a decent apartment, with a stable boyfriend and a steady side job to support you. You spoke with your parents every few days, and had just attended your mother's wedding to your stepfather, with whom you had a decent relationship. She had you as a teenager, and the split with your father broke her heart, but your stepfather was a nice guy who brought some stability to her life. She gave birth to your new little brother shortly into your first year at university, and you loved to visit him whenever you could.

Now, you were a single mother to your younger brother, struggling to balance your responsibilities as a mother, father and sister with duties at work. Thankfully, you had a decent job as a PA for an art gallery owner who was also letting you intern with his art curator whenever you finished your work. Having an educated PA was a bonus that he wasn't about to let go of, and he paid well because you were loyal, and reliable, and probably at least a little bit because he pitied you. But you weren't above pity money - you needed it to take care of your little monster.

Your boss was also the only reason you managed to get these tickets and secure your place as 'best mom ever'. Being called mom wasn’t what you expected from the birth of your little brother, however, your parents passed away in a tragic accident when your brother was only four, and he barely remembered them. You were Mom more than you were his sister, and you’d learned to accept that over the last three years. Sean was a rambunctious seven year old, and like many kids his age, he was absolutely obsessed with Everything At Once. Your boss had connections with some of the crew of the show, and he was able to secure you tickets as a birthday gift.

"Not a good birthday gift for you, I suppose, but I know Sean is your world so hopefully it will suit." He’d said as he handed the tickets to you.

He knew you so well.

Which led you here, standing in the back of the studio with the other parents while Sean was led up into the audience by a friendly-looking young PA. Your baby was vibrating out of his light-up sneakers, and you couldn't stop smiling, happy to see him so excited. He'd insisted on dressing up like his idol, so he was wearing his most colourful clothes - a highlighter pink shirt and lavender pants, paired with his trusty light-up shoes. He had his Dirk Brûlée shirt stuffed into your purse so that he could see if he could get it signed after the taping, and a rather stunning photograph of the talk show host that you’d printed on expensive photo paper protected within a manila envelope. You had to promise to frame it in order for Sean to let you hold onto it during the taping.

Unlike your brother, you chose to wear a baby blue midi sundress with corset boning in the bodice, puffy sleeves, a tulle skirt, and a lovely neckline that enhanced your chest. It’s all very appropriate despite the attractive bodice, and paired with cute wedge sandals, it gives you a youthful and charming look. Despite not being on TV, you put on makeup and styled your hair to make sure you would look good since you didn’t want to embarrass yourself in front of anyone. You wanted to dress your age, while still looking like an adult, and you never got to wear this kind of clothing at work since they had a strict business casual-adjacent dress code at the gallery. This dress would never fly without a blazer, and a blazer would be uncomfortable with the sleeves.

"God, she's young isn't she?"

"Gotta be a teen mom. She looks like she's barely out of high school. If she even graduated.”

You frown. You'd think by now you would be used to how catty other parents could be, but somehow, you still let it get to you. The judgement. As if they knew anything about you. A deep, centering breath brings you back to the present - Sean is happy, and their words don't matter. Instead, you focus on your sweet little brother, the most important (and only) man in your life. The hype guy is riling up the kids, bouncing around with an excitement you wish you could muster but have been struggling to manage with the extra hours you've been taking on. By the time you go to bed every night, you’re exhausted, passing out in bed the minute your head hits the pillow.

Thank god for your friends, all of whom act as amazing aunts and uncles for Sean. Your oldest friend, Nadia, has a son only a year younger than Sean, and they're thicker than thieves so they hang out often. Nadia picks the boys up from school every night, and watches Sean until you get home from work just after 5. After work, you make dinner nearly every night, then take a shower while Sean finishes his homework that he started at Nadia’s. Together, you watch the newest episode of Everything At Once on the PVR since Nadia doesn’t believe in letting the kiddos watch TV, and it’s a nice little hour of cuddle time that forces you to relax on the couch. Once that’s done, you both clean up - Sean cleans the living room and his bedroom while you clean the kitchen and whatever else needs to be tidied. Cleaning up throughout the week gives you the chance to spend weekends with Sean, with only very rare Saturday evenings reserved for gallery events.

You’ve committed to driving him to school every day on your way to work, and you’ve never missed a day except when you’re sick as a dog. You give Sean every moment of your time that you can, leaving very little for yourself, and you’re starting to feel the burn out. You haven’t had a real break since the death of your parents, and at this point, you couldn’t afford one any time soon either. Your friends would take Sean if you needed them to, but you feel guilty not spending time with him when you have it. Perhaps sometime soon, it wouldn’t feel like a failure to take more than a night or two to yourself. Even tonight, you have your friend Garrett and his wife Kimmie picking Sean up from the studio to go to their house for the weekend for their son’s birthday celebration, giving you a weekend to yourself for the first time in ages, and you feel guilty.

A PA informs the parents that Dirk is about to come out, and you snap out of the deep well of your thoughts, brightening up at the sight of Sean’s excited little foot taps. The theme music kicks in, and Dirk Brûlée swings out through the glitzy, colourful streamers to the raucous applause of the kids. You smile fondly as he passes out high-fives and fist bumps, and you can see the brilliant smile that spreads across Sean’s face as he gets one of his own. Your heart melts, and everything you’ve ever missed out on for him is worth it just to see him this happy.

Dirk greets a couple more kids, then ruffles Sean’s hair as he passes him towards his chair, and the show begins. The first guests are always there for an experimental, goofy skit-like interview - today being the stars of a popular children’s show that you vaguely recognize as something Sean watched when he was younger. The interview plays into the stars’ characters, with humorous nods towards the adults in the crowd with vague jokes that would go over a child’s head. This is followed by Dirk’s typical dance break, in which he introduces the musical guest, then hypes the kids up and dances with them to the musical guest’s set. You laugh as Sean gets his turn, and spins Dirk the way he normally would spin you when you two dance together, and you can’t help but feel some warm bubblies towards Dirk for the way he goes along with it seamlessly. It’s sweet that he seems to genuinely enjoy the children - there’s a sparkle in his eye that you recognize as sincerity. It’s such a rare thing to see, and despite hearing rumours that Dirk is a giant diva, you decide that you like him just for the way he interacts with the kids.

Once the dance break is over, Dirk welcomes the musical guest on stage for an interview, and you’re impressed that he was able to get a popular up-and-coming boyband. His accent is softer after years spent away from his home country, but you can hear it in his ‘r’s and the way he pronounces words with ‘th’ sounds. You don’t know much about Dirk, but you know his mother is a famous French actress and his father was a Hollywood director. Maybe growing up in the industry is what made him such a natural interviewer. The conversation flows easily, with Dirk asking surprisingly poignant questions for a show with a primarily child audience. He strikes an easy balance between fun and serious, keeping the kids engaged while also managing to keep his guests entertained as well. After the musical guest, the last guest is introduced with a scene from an upcoming kids’ movie, and you smile as Dirk begins a rambunctious interview with an actor you think you know, but can’t quite place from where. The show ends with another little dance party, after which Dirk promises to meet all the kids and answer questions after a quick break.

Sean nearly knocks you off your feet when he runs to you, and you lift him up into your arms as you watch Dirk walk backstage over his shoulder. The moms who were talking shit earlier greet their kids - a blond little girl with a very cute bow and seemingly endless pout, and a dark-haired boy who looks like he fell out of a bland ‘aesthetic’ home magazine photo. The poor kid looks uncomfortable in his khakis and polo shirt - Sean would scream if you tried to put him in an outfit like that. The judgemental stares don’t bother you too much now that you’ve got Sean to distract you. So long as he doesn’t notice, you couldn’t care less what they think of you. You pause to chat with a couple while Sean shows their daughter his robot book (which he refuses to leave home without), then spend the last couple minutes of the break fending off a (hopefully?) single dad who doesn’t seem to understand that you’re not interested. Finally, Dirk emerges from the back area looking refreshed, and an assistant corrals the kids and their parents into a line for the meet and greet. You end up at the back of the line due to Sean having one of his shoes untied which you make him fix, but you remind the pouting kiddo that Dirk promised he would meet every kid, so it doesn’t matter where in the line he is.

Sean has never been quite good at being patient, but he dutifully tries his best, clinging to your hand while you wait. You smile as one of the dads seems to flirt with Dirk, indiscreetly giving him his phone number, his daughter oblivious as she clings to her father’s pant leg. Dirk handles it pretty smoothly, waiting until the man is out of view before giving the phone number to a PA to get rid of it. Another PA leads those who’ve finished their meet-and-greet towards the door to leave, and you watch absently as the room slowly empties as you get closer to the end of the line.

Sean rocks on his heels as you get closer to the end of the line, and you feel a little bad for Dirk as one of the moms from earlier tries to flirt with him while he does his best to distance himself while still being kind about it. It reminds you of all the men who flirt with you at the gallery, as if your job requiring you to be nice to them means that you’ll somehow be more inclined to let them take you out. You wonder for a moment how often this happens to him, and if he ever takes anyone up on it. He’s a handsome man - you don’t blame anyone for being interested in him. Even his obnoxious moustache doesn’t take away from his gorgeous face. He’s probably nearly double your age, but you wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eating crackers, as they say. Not that you needed the complication of a relationship on top of your seemingly endless pile of responsibilities.

Dirk’s in it for the kids, you realise as you watch him interact with them. He’s polite enough to the adults, but he lights up when he speaks with the children, genuinely interested in what they have to say. It isn’t in a creepy way either - it reminds you more of that feeling of meeting someone who you instantly connect and have something in common with. You wonder if perhaps the honesty of children resonates with him like it does for you. They hold nothing back, and when you treat them with respect and listen to what they have to say, they really blossom into something special. You can’t believe the amount of personality Sean has, and he’s only seven.

The line dwindles, and you begin to worry as you notice how long it’s taking. Perhaps, by the time it gets to Sean, Dirk might be tired of meet-and-greets and might rush things. Maybe you should’ve let him tie his shoes in line? You end up panicking for nothing - as the family before you departs, Dirk offers Sean a wide smile that makes his eyes crinkle charmingly.

“Hey! Nice to meet you. What’s your name?” Dirk asks, and Sean introduces himself eagerly.

“I’m Sean, and this is my mom- uh, sister. You can call her Mom - I do.” He informs Dirk with a blinding grin. Your cheeks get hot, and you pet Sean’s hair back out of his face.

“Hi, nice to meet you.” You murmur, giving him your name and letting him know that he very much does not need to call you Mom. You direct it at Sean just as much as Dirk, and the older man grins, taking your offered hand to kiss your knuckles instead of shake it. You swear his gaze runs quickly up and down your body, but the second you notice it, he looks away. He immediately directs his attention back to Sean, and you listen happily as your brother yaks the poor man’s ear off, telling him all about his robot book, how he picked his outfit especially to look like Dirk, and how he watched the show every day with you. The talk show host compliments his outfit and light-up sneakers, flipping through his book and commenting on a couple things, and you can see the way Sean thrives under the attention of the older man. Part of you laments the fact that you can’t give that same energy to him that he clearly craves.

Dirk offers to sign autographs and take photos, and you take several pictures of the two together before Dirk asks his PA to take a photo of the three of you. “Since you’re a fan too.” he claims, winking at you over Sean’s head as you approach. Your cheeks burn as he slides an arm around your waist even though it remains entirely appropriate. As you step away from him, you can still feel his heat against your side, and you wonder how he isn’t sweating his ass off in that leather jacket. Sean hands over his photo and shirt for Dirk to sign, which he does with a wide smile, his signature big and dramatic for the kids, and in a cherry red marker. You’re impressed with how quick he is while still keeping it legible.

“Vic, can you take Sean here to the prize room? Let him pick something special out, since he’s my last kiddo of the day.” Dirk instructs his PA, who seems surprised but happy enough to comply. Sean practically bounces out of his shoes as he grabs the young PA’s hand and follows her out of the room.

“Thank you for that. He… he really looks up to you.” You say as you’re left alone with the talk show host since security waits outside the room for the kids’ comfort. You don’t feel nervous being alone with him, even though normally you don’t particularly enjoy being alone with men.

“He looked like he needed it. So do you.” Dirk replies simply, shrugging and offering you a wry smile, “He’s a good kid.”

“He is. I never expected him, but he’s my entire world.”

“Unplanned pregnancy?” Dirk asks, but you can see from the look on his face that he’s only asking to coax the truth out of you - he doesn’t think Sean is yours. He didn’t miss the slip in your introduction. From the expression on his face, he’s not even trying to be subtle about it really.

“No, no, he’s my little half-brother. Our mom and his dad passed away in an accident when he was four. I was just out of uni, so I got custody of him. He doesn’t really remember them, so he calls me mom.” You reply, giving him the truth since he obviously wanted it, and not feeling guilty for putting that stricken look of sympathy on his face.
