Album: Merlin, by Dutch band Kayak; genre: progressive rock; 1981

I can't say that I fell in love with the music, it's too 80s, perhaps; but the lyrics, it's a lovely Arthurian poetry. Feeling very inspired by it. There are: Merlin-centirc, proto-mergana, two passionate gwencelot and one absolutely fabulous armor song that finishes the album and the legend.

The cycle follows the classic legends: Merlin is a prophet (interesting that the BBC writers chose to tie their Merlin and Morgana so close, passing his legendary seer ability to her), a King's enchanter and protector, and, in the end, a lonely madman in the Crystal Cave. He willingly self-fulfills the prophecy he has seen: he decides to let Uther indulge in his vicious love for Ygraine; it's just meant to be in order to let King Arthur came to this world.

"Bard of the unseen, I'm Merlin, the child of the light, my power can strike people blind, I'm Merlin, the sorcerer in the black robe."

Then it moves to Arthur and the Sword in the Stone. Merlin directs Arthur to his destined throne and promises greatness, peace and unity.

"Arthur holds Excalibur, the invincible weapon, to fight the wrong and serve the right, I know he'll make it happen."

However, just at this moment of light and hope, Merlin is aware the end already walks in their shadow. He knows about Arthur's past sin and his greatest forbidden love – his sister.

"There's a scar from his past which he'll bear till the end, like a curse it will last, his own blood wants revenge."

Afterward, the Album leaves Arthur to the knights and Grail, and tells a story of Merlin's tragic love and betrayal. Here we see how the BBC writers reworked the legends of Niniane/Viviane, these Morgana's incarnations, bringing them back to mergana narrative. Merlin teaches the Lady of his heart magic, and she turns this gift against him (we were deprived of this exact trope in the BBC, but The nightmare begins can count to an extent.) She even becomes a Seer instead of him.

"My future is yours, sweet lady of the lake (mind Morgana and Avalon), you betrayed me, stole my power (Morgana literally did it in TDOTD), when I put all my trust in you, could not see you through. (From S1 to S3). I'm buried alive, shut in this cave of darkness, there's no escape here from my grave, my skills can't save me (TDOTD-2) There's a reason that I'll never know, I couldn't follow why you had to go."

Kayak's Merlin cycle then moves back to Camelot and presents us with two perfect gwencelot songs, made from Lancelot's point of view. One can be understand as a courtly love, Arthur takes his next quest and Lancelot and Guinevere are left together;

"Now he's gone, is it wrong or selfish to stay? The magic returns wherever you call my name; tranquil but glowing, you're like a distant star, I'll show you my feelings now that we've come this far."

The other is a post-Camlann gwencelot, post Arthur, where Lancelot begs Gwen not to leave him. The strongest and bravest knight says that he needs his Queen's protection.

"Can't afford to lose, I couldn't live alone, I want you around, because I need your protection."

The darkness is drawing, Arthur is dying and Morgana comes to take him to Avalon. "Love's aglow" is a very beautiful duet with a strong but gentle Arthur's voice and Morgana's mysterious echo. Arthur's farewell forgiving song to the world. Every line is so profound and fitting for any version of armor. I like how Arthur's "take the blame, feel no (shame)pain" can either be "I take the blame, you, feel no pain" or "we take the blame, I feel no pain(dying)".

"There was a time I could freely breath the air

No matter where I went, you would always be there. Passion came, I could not defend myself from you. Did we dance and did we had the same dream of fame? Feel no pain.

Carry me when I feel so tired I would almost fall.

Finally losing the fight we'd hoped to win, climbing too high, too late to turn back and too far for cover, tell me

Did we touch and did we play the game; take the blame, feel no pain.

I can't believe the things you'd said, what happened to the dreams we'd had? A frozen heart; still deep inside, love's aglow. Now should we take it as it is. What lesson did we learn from this:

Though many dreams are lies untold, I see a world as pure as gold, out there.

And after everyone and everything is dead, only Merlin remains:

You'll move with the winds, and confide in the sea,

The madman of the forest, just a ghost of what you once have been. You're nothing but a wanderer obsessed by your dreams.

Havoc, the chaos warframe [Fan concept]

[So i had this warframe idea, wanted to drew him before posting it, but since i can't right now i will just post it later... mayebe... I will probably forget]

[Important to say that I have absolutely no idea of balancing and the numbers are only to make a better idea of how things work, if you think something isn't balanced, you are probably right]

Havoc is a warframe designed on not having control over his abilities. All the powers he has are extremely powerful, but not being able to adapt to them fast enough will result in them being useless.

Sex: Male, body type similar to Vauban

Health: 250 at R30

Shield: 400 at R30

Armor: 250

Energy: 140

Polarities: 2 Madurai 

Progenitor Element: Radiation

Passive: Entropy: Every 30 seconds he will get one of the following bonuses: +25% Damage (Additive, not multiplicative), +25% Power strength (Additive, not multiplicative), +5 Health regeneration and shields regenerate 20% faster. This abilities are not chosen at random, they rotate in that order

1 Ability: Furore (25 energy, subsumable): Enemies in a line of 8 meters of Havoc (Similar to Nidus 1º) are marked for 12 seconds. When enemies marked receive a status proc, other enemies within 1,5 meters receive a random status proc (The same proc for everyone). This ability is capped at a proc every half second.

2 Ability: Pandemonium(40 energy): Havoc throws one of his trinkets at random, each one of them has a different ability and stats. To avoid pure randomness of this ability, a box in the HUD will show what it will throw next time you use the ability. Some of them could be:

Proto Nervo (Vauban inspired ability): Havoc throws an electric mine that throws electric pulses that electrifies enemies within 3 meters for 3 seconds. Electrified enemies can chain the electrified to nearby enemies for half its duration. The mine will deal five electric pulses every 3 seconds before disappearing

Blinding Javelin (Excalibur inspired ability): Havoc throws a javelin of light that flies directly straight and explodes on contact to any surface, dealing 350 radiation damage within 10 meters and blinding enemies them for 10 seconds

Toy Twin (Wukong inspired ability): Havoc throws a small version of himself that will patrol an area of 30m. When an enemy enters his range of vision (10m) it will rush to them and deal 15% of the equipped melee (If no melee is equipped it will deal 800 damage evenly spread on all physical damage types). It has 200% the health and shields of Havoc and will only despawn if it is killed or the player goes AFK.

Glass Seed (Gara inspired ability): Havoc throws a seed that on impact with the floor will create an area of 5 meters where enemies will be vitrified in 5 seconds. The area is marked with a flower (Similar to Baruuk 2) with a duration 10 seconds

Gravity Arrow (Ivara inspired ability): Havoc shoots an arrow which will pull enemies within 6 meters towards it. Having more strength will make it pull enemies faster

Toxibomb (Lavos inspired ability): Throws a bomb that on contact with anything will deal 300 toxic damage and 5 toxic procs enemies within 13m

Spiribomb (Nekros inspired ability): Throws a slow orb that slowly flies in a straight line going through enemies dealing 150 Impact damage. When in touches any surface it will explode dealing all the damage it has dealt in an area of 15 meters

Microbomb (Nukor inspired ability): Throws a bomb that on contact with anything will deal 100 radiation damage and triplicate the head size to enemies within 13m

Bubbles (Kompressa inspired ability): Bubbles burst from Havoc to where it is looking in a big area, while this ability is casted Havoc will be unable to move for 2 seconds (Similar to mesa 4º). The bubbles will explode 4 seconds after being thrown and deal 100 cold damage each and 20% status chance. Upgrading strength will throw more bubbles and range will cover a wider area.

This ability has a 2 second cool down between uses.

3 Ability: Chaos flower (60 energy, Tactical Ability): Havoc plants a flower on the floor, it will stay there for 50 seconds and give a different buff at random every 10 seconds (Each buff duration is 90 seconds) to any allay in 15 meters of it. Some of the possible buffs could be:

+50% Damage (Multiplicative)

+75% Damage reduction

+150  Health and shields

+20% Ability strength

+25% Ability range

+20% Movement speed

+25% Multishot

Companion immunity to damage for 60 seconds

+20 health/s regeneration

Nearby enemies will have their speed reduced by 50%

The buff duration and effects are affected by Ability Duration and Ability strength respectively 

4 Ability: Space rupture (100 energy): Havoc overloads his portal and unleashes a powerful attack that can take three forms. While this ability is active you can move but can’t cast abilities or use weapons:

Fusing beam (Caliban inspired): Havoc casts a wide beam that slowly concentrates in a small area and dealing more damage (from 2000 to 6000 blast damage)

Concentrated beam: Havoc casts a small laser signaling where its pointing (And clue at what it is) and 2 seconds later a powerful beam will be launched. The beam deals 8500 fire damage, it also has infinite Body Punch Through and can also go through thin walls

Flamethrower (Chorma and Grandel inspired): Havoc casts a potent toxic flame and absorbs enemies within 15 meters (The closer they are, the faster), after 6 seconds it will end up throwing a bomb that strips 80% of enemy armor. The flames deal 2000 toxic damage and the bomb deals 4500 acid damage

Acquirement method:

A new Disruption node appears in the void.

The node has an unique map, similar to the citrine between areas, where fragments from all the system and duviri are floating in the void. The map is very open and with more focus on height, also due being just random parts floating on the void it is really easy for one to fall from it.

The parts of the warframe can be obtained as reward for completing rounds with the same probability as Gauss, but also every 8 rounds an enemy Havoc will spawn and kill him will grant one of his blueprints

Aspect:

He looks mildly bulky, heavily decorated with complex patterns and broken ornaments all over his body. His chest is broken, revealing a portal to his pocket dimension were pulls all the weaponry he uses for the abilities.

His right hand (Which he uses to pull things from the portal) has been heavily deformed having longer fingers ending in claws, and parts of it exposing flesh.

His helmet is mostly spheric with a flat surface on the top, it has five eyes symmetrically positioned on his face. The bottom part  is a wider platform with four glowing rings on it.

Leverian:

Pandemonium's Leverian tells the story of how he was designed to use scrapped parts of other warframes and was given as security to a powerful family. It worked restlessly expelling people that tried to get into their house and killing those who tried to kill them, but even then they treated him very coldly, only talking to give him orders and complaining about his work.

Eventually when the orokin started falling the family managed to get in a safe place with a ship where they lived for some time. Due to everything happening they started treating the warframe very poorly, and he started acting weird due to the parts of other warframes influencing him. Eventually one day were the patriarch of the family started abusing him due breaking a thing while cleaning he snapped, killed him and flew the ship to an asteroid in the void, killing the family and him being trapped on the remnants of the ship

While playing Dark Sector, I was eagerly waiting for Hayden to acquire the armour that so resembles Warframe's Excalibur. It's one of the reasons I picked the game up. I wanted to see how many similarities and references there are between Dark Sector and Warframe. The armour must be one of my favourites, though.

Naturally, you can also find it in Warframe's marketplace as the Excalibur Proto-Armor Skin with the following description: "Discovering the precise nature of this recently uncovered armored prototype has proved elusive. Initial attempts at dating point to ancient origins, perhaps even predating Orokin empire."

your gilgamesh redesign with proto-gil moveset/powerset...is just perfect,i hate that fact that canon gilgamesh noble phantasm is just some references to babylon and don't have anything to do with his legends even tho Noble phantasm is supposed to be literally the embodiment of a figure popular acts and the epic of gilgamesh is most famous with its relation with the arc of Noah story and i hate the fact that gilgamesh was stripped of his historical importance.

Unfortunately the original "sin" of 2004 FSN Gilgamesh characterization and design and literally anything else is that he was designed and written to be -by Nasu's own admission- a "mysterious and easy to hype villain that acts and works as foil to my two protagonists" first and foremost.

The "this is a reinterpretation of X ancient figure from this specific place and time" part of his character was pretty low on the authors priorities.

This difference in priorities snowballed everything else.

He's a misogynistic rapist-to-be even when he's supposed to be summoned past-Epic because "Fate" is the most classic romance of the three routes and having a horrible person as "rival" for the heroine's heart is easy and favours the mc's growing closer.

He dons a full suit of golden armor that makes no cultural or temporal sense whatsoever because Nasu loved the 1984 game "Tower of Druaga" in which a golden-armored knight called Gilgamesh had adventures (a game that was incredibly successful and influential in JP).

His attack is named after a city he has no connection to because -still by Nasu's own admission- "no one in Japan had heard about Uruk while 'Babylon' at least evoked something" (same reason why the sword is named after the Babylonian/Akkadian version of the god and not the Sumerian one and the main attack has the name its has: the Enuma Elish is famous)

He owns everything (and especially weapons) because this lets the writer put him at odds with the protagonist who is "nothing" and whose creation of weapons signifies much more than "amass everything because I can".

He gets a nearly invincible sword even though his weapons of choice in the Epic were his hands, a bow and an axe (and both weapons are named to boot!) because he and his weapon need to be a foil to King Arthur wielding an Excalibur wanked to high heavens.

And so on and so forth, you get the gist.

Since then Nasu has kept backtracking when possible and adding more and more till his Gilgamesh became recognizable as "actual reinterpretation of the original figure" in 2013 (with Fate/Extra CCC's release) and then, of course, in 2016 with FGO's 7th Singularity release.

But the basis are the basis and at no point could TM/Nasu walk back on what had been established in 2004, at least not the more "visual" aspects and so here we are now with this oddly designed character.

help i have too many concepts re: my excalibur and i need a space bag and a vacuum to fit them all in

okay these are in no particular order, keep in mind that SO many of these are like - on par with the kind of Cool OC ideas you have in 5th grade lol

- this Excalibur is extremely long-suffering, principled, loyal and he Will help you with your errands and hobbies, but beneath that He Is So Tired and wants to just sleep in the plains from time to time. Get even further down and there is a sardonic streak half a mile wide and he has to fight not to roll his eyes sometimes.

- he has few fears, unless you count the Infested, in which case he has one (1) pronounced fear. It won't,, stop, him from doing infestation-culling missions, he will just be absolutely miserable and high-strung the entire time and maybe, one day, if he ever regains complete autonomy like Umbra, you might see the way his shoulders just slump whenever you mention Mercury. this kills the lad

- bc of this his preferred element is fire. his tenno welcomes it as the signature element because it fits the aesthetic so well, but also when running dark sector missions with Excalibur, Shinoda will experience discomfort and unease from his end if she didn't bring along something super-heated and capable of slicing through diseased flesh like a sous chef through cilantro

- yes he does worry thank you he does. very much

- getting into the more out-there parts, yeah he's a prototypical excalibur model, like Way from back then. the splash text for the proto-armor mentions the origins being very elusive, perhaps pre-Orokin. i know that on a meta level this was to make ppl who played darkSector go look!!!!!!!! darkSector!!!!!! However,

- but yeah is this particular Excalibur made up of faded and worn fragments of what used to be one Hayden Tenno before the technocyte plague fully Got him? i don't know and it makes no sense but it's a fun idea to me so yeah! yes

- darksector hayden receives like, not that much in the way of meaningful characterization But we do get that while he is morally. uh. stained he (a) does regret the messed up things he's done and (b) actively try reasoning with others even past the point of practicality sometimes, so this guy is probably what hayden could become given time and effort: cooler than anything under pressure, and willing to do what's right, but with moral lines drawn and set where they hadn't been before

- anyway bc of the aforementioned point up there that i like to play with i. don't think i should actually name this excalibur but in an au where he's just any excalibur i'd probably call him khyric so if you ever see some fic floating around and the warframe is named khyric that's probably me rehashing ideas lol.

4. As it turns out, screaming "To Valhalla" is not the best idea when you step onto Iskandar's Chariot. Especially so when you are right in front of the enemy.

5. Frankenstein is not a doll, do not dress her up. No Arthur, not even if she tilts her head and makes cute growls -Gudao 5a. Okay! Only if its a sundress! -Gudao

6. Getting together four of my other counterparts and forming the Saber Rangers is not allowed, especially if we have Excalizords. Seems the other servants aren't fond of needlessly big robots that take too long to combine.

7. Motorbikes are not to be used at any point or time in Chaldea, no, not even when Iskandar decides to hold the "Chaldea Grand Prix" -Da Vinci

17b. "I saw this scene-" is not a viable reason to go to a prior singularity and ask Muramasa to create a specific weapon, it is time wasting, no matter how strong the weapon is.

18. Suggesting to Rayshift to the point before someone dies is not a good idea, no matter how much fun it is for you to watch the "Crazy Murder Loli" die.

18a. Getting Fou'd is not a good reason to Rayshift back to your fight against Beast VI just so you can "Finish the Fucker Off".

19. Using a voice manipulator made by Merlin is not a good way to get people to be afraid when you shout a noble phantasm.

19a. Shouting "Stella" is not allowed, Arash prematurely shot off his Noble Phantasm while training and now we have to resummon him.

20. Just because we have a Simulation Room, does not mean I can alter the device to allow me to see someone from the past.

21. Trying to host an "Engry MIYA" talk between Nameless and Alter is not a good idea, just... Don't.

22. While having a Picnic is fun, please don't host them in the middle of a fight.

Belated Halloween post! (Caution! FGO Character Spoilers!)

So here I am when I’m supposed to be submitting my final Hetalia stuff... But instead I show, publicly, that once and for all, I’ve fallen down the Fate rabbit hole and can’t get out. Last year was a Hetalia blowout, this year, I went all out with a Fate idea I’ve wanted to do for a long while. ...Unfortunately it dragged into the next day. Whelp.

So it’s (or was) Halloween at the Chaldea! And the Servants are dressing as... Themselves?

As someone who likes researching whatever she finds an excuse to research, I’ve had this idea since forever and I finally did it. Though there’s some ideas I still wanted to do but couldn’t (Galahad and Proto Arthur almost made it... Almost... And someday, Cù, someday...), I’m still proud of myself!

Sorry if characterization is a bit off, I’m a bit new.

King Arthur/Sonic (Sonic And The Black Knight)

I debated whether it should be Sonic or some other options, but Sonic it was, since it was most simple. ...And Artoria looks a lot less goofy than I expected here, and while that’s a bit disappointing it’s also kind of adorable. Maybe it helps that Lion Saber is a thing, and I used her as a reference, though I still wanted to go for a more comically serious effect and Lion Saber seems to be a child. Also it goes great with her green eyes. I want to do an entire set with Sonic and the Black Knight sometime! Maybe after Percival finally gets a design because he’s still AWOL. Wanted to draw the other clothing option in a different group shot, but I ended up spending way too much time on this so maybe some other time. ...Maybe after the other knights finally join. Though I can still do it without them. And maybe after Proto!Mordred finally gets a design, since yes that’s actually kind of relevant.

Sir Bedevere The Wise (Monty Python and the Holy Grail)

No contest. While there’s also the simple fact that Bedivere seems to rarely show up in visual media, like, at all, I’ve gotta say, for an outfit out of a comedy movie, this costume looks so... graceful on Fate!Bedivere, and it’s one of the less goofy ones. Just by a different person being in it the whole feel of the outfit changes. Also he looks like an actual, honest-to-god knight instead of an anime JRPG fantasy knight. I love how he looks in it. It fits him like a glove.

...And yes, that is a coconut bucket. ...Maybe there’s a lot of Almond Joys in there? Because I’m one of those weird people who actually kind of likes Almond Joys. I wonder if candy makes clopping hoof noises as they rattle around.

Mordred (Excalibur (1981 film))

The punchline to the opening comic. Just... This thing is so amazingly, gloriously, deliciously gaudy. And it’s played completely seriously. When I saw it I KNEW I had to use it for this gag, because I can totally see Mordred having Lucina’s fashion sense. Between this and Bat-Nipples, did the 80s have something about nipples? But she looks... Surprisingly not-tacky in it? I guess it’s helped by the fact that at the moment my artstyle is pretty flat. It’s pretty hard to shade with colored pencils getting in the way... Or maybe it’s just the lack of helmet.

Sir Gawain (Prince Valiant)

Almost went with an Animal the Muppet hood due to Animal playing him in Muppet King Arthur, but couldn’t decide on the rest of the outfit and this was easier to draw and I wanted to see Gawain in this tunic. I wasn’t disappointed.

Sir Launcelot (King Arthur’s Disasters)

Lancelot’s hair was hell to draw. Seriously. But yeah I had a lot to sift through with Lancelot, then I found this. Lancelot looks surprisingly good with a fake mustache.

Sir Galahad (Camelot 3000)

Augh I wanted to draw you too Galahad... Oh well, have a Samurai Mashu. She looks surprisingly natural in it. But really, I want to make an entire set with Camelot 3000, the absurd premise produces results that were basically exactly what I was looking for.

Sir Tristan (円卓の騎士物語 燃えろアーサー/Moero Arthur)

An old, old Japanese cartoon. The joke was supposed to be this bulky armor on the usually relatively lightly-dressed Tristan, but he ended up in the back. Whelp.

Merlin (Merlin (2008 BBC series))

I’ve been seeing this series everywhere recently, so why not. It fits that Merlin is aged down over there, just like in Fate.

Sir Gareth (Iron Man comics)

Gareth barely shows up in visual media. But I saw this brightly-colored cameo that was apparently in a silver age Iron Man comic, and it was good enough. Though I didn’t draw the weird headpiece thing because I drew her last and I had little time. She unfortunately couldn’t fit on the page with the others.

Dr. Henry Jekyll (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931 Paramount film))

EEEEEE my waifu! Of course it’s only natural that the gothic horror duo/trio show themselves in a Halloween drawing. While the 1931 Jekyll doesn’t have an iconic outfit, much like most Jekylls, I decided to make his outfit grayscale, much like it looked on film, for uniqueness. It was actually one of my first ideas. This is why I didn’t use the white bow tie look that was seemingly used most often in posters. Though I guess, to him, he still isn’t really wearing a costume so much as just regular outdoor wear and the most unusual thing about it is that he’s wearing it indoors.

Mrs. Edwina Hyde (Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde)

Yes, this movie exists. There’s an actual movie where Hyde gets Nyota’d. Seriously. There’s also a card game with a Nyo!Hyde, weirdly... But yeah, Hyde tends to get more interesting costumes than Jekyll, but in the end the most outrageous had the biggest advantage. Plus it’s a simple outfit, and she wields a knife, and it’s an excuse for Hyde to act all Femme Fatale-y, because I write him as basically a hetero Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel, so it was little contest. I drew him intending for him to be crossdressing, but it looks like this could plausibly be a Nyota Hyde lol.

Frankenstein (DC Comics)

Holy cow she rocks this outfit. In my style at least. Comics are a gold mine of unique outfits so I rely on them quite a bit. This outfit was taken from the character’s most recent depiction. From what I know, I have a hunch that DC Frankenstein would get along well with Fran.

Robin Hood (Robin Hood (Disney))

Ohhhh yes. One of the first concepts I came up with. Instead of going full fursit-lite like Artoria, I went with a simpler one, and I only realized after drawing a bit that there’s a bit of fanserice there too lol. His Servant design already reminded me so much of the Disney Robin Hood, and I HAD to see him in fox ears

Jeanne D’Arc/Tart (Puella Magi Tart Magica)

Jeanne has so many incarnations and clones, but I stuck with this simple but beautiful one from the Madoka series. The outfit kind of looks like a white palette swap of Artoria’s, but it’s different enough from Jeanne’s usual outfit unlike those like her SNK or Inazuma Eleven counterpart’s, and it suits Jeanne a lot. She looks great in white/pink, I’ve gotta say.

Joan of Arc (Clone High)

Was not expecting to do Alters, but there’s been some buzz around this show lately, and then I find out about her. After hearing “Goth Joan of Arc clone” I pretty immediately thought of Jalter. This is a Jalter counterpart. Change my mind.
