What's living in Florida like as a lesbian? Most (liberal) people I talk to balk when I say I'm considering moving there because they all think it's populated exclusively by bigoted swamp creatures, but I don't want to listen to stereotapes from people who've never lived there. I know what the politics are like there, but what about day-to-day living/homophobia?
I tell people this CONSTANTLY but nobody seems to grasp it: while Florida has very red areas (every state does), especially rurally and in the panhandle (which shouldn't even be part of FL imho), all of the actual cities (like Tampa, St. Pete, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale) are very much blue and pretty fun to live in. they also all have LGBT+ (ofc the + is everywhere now) events and communities and parts of town etc. I love it here and have had practically zero issues being an extremely gnc lesbian here, except when I lived in Sarasota (red town with a lot of money - sucks ass) and got legally fired for being gay back in early 2020. that could've happened in a red town almost anywhere before it was illegal.
I've even had really fun, awesome experiences chatting (about what it's like to be a lesbian) with conservative white dudes in their gun store - more than once! actually if I'm being completely honest, I've had fewer sexist and homophobic experiences with conservative men in the past few years than with liberals. and yes, pretty much all the negative experiences with liberals were an obvious product of gender identity ideology. it's just so incredibly disappointing that I can reasonably expect a random conservative male I run into in the wild to be more normal about female homosexuality (including butchness!) than a liberal of either sex I run into in the wild. how the FUCK did that happen? I hate it here lmao

@mabangiswolf submitted: Hiii! I'd like to request an ID! It's a larval beetle that I've never seen before. iNat suggested golden tortoiseshell beetle, but I'm not entirely confident, lol. Found on a morning glory leaf in [removed] FL (city removed or replaced with Panhandle). TY!

Yep, it's a golden tortoise beetle larva with a beautiful fecal shield!

i guess i was initially hesitant to jump aboard the peach creek is in the south theory, because i fuckin hate the south. but im fully into it now. im partial to the FL panhandle, cuz that's where i grew up so i can picture it easily. but GA probably makes the most sense. imagining the characters with southern accents is pretty funny. edd with a twang would finish me for good.

Hi everyone! My name is Gay Valimont- I’m an activist with Moms Demand Action. As we’ve seen FL sliding downhill in the last few years, I’ve been on the frontlines in my orange and red shirts as the leadership of our statewide campaign for common sense gun legislation. I’ve made so many incredible relationships with folks who have inspired me to take up fights even when it’s not easy, and rarely is it in the Florida Panhandle. I’ve had some bumps in the road and some truly trying times. Within the span of a year, I lost my husband to ALS, and my son to a brain tumor. The weight of my loss still hits me every day. My husband Brian was always so supportive of my advocacy efforts with Moms Demand Action. And my son Eli told everyone I was going to save the world. Sitting in front of the calming ocean that I’m lucky to live next to, I’m reminded of why I’m doing what I’m doing. Florida’s beautiful environment is so often cast aside by our lawmakers, in favor of headlines that make it into the news. Our waterways, wildlife, greenery, and beaches are why we live where people vacation. Taking steps to protect it is critical. I’ve always been an animal lover, and I live with my adorable dog Daisy.
Tumblr media
Which brings us, of course, to Matt Gaetz. Our representative is constantly in the headlines for one temper fit or another, and our district suffers as a result. I can’t stand his arrogance and the way he thinks he’s better than everyone. I hope by running against him, I can unseat him, but I also want to be an example to all the moms out there that they can stand up to create change in their communities. In the last few years, we’ve had candidates make headlines by running against Gaetz, but none of them have truly invested in building grassroots, local campaigns in the panhandle. As an organizer, I think I’m uniquely qualified to try. I had a video put together that I think sums up nicely why I’m running.

July Update
Tumblr media
Yeah that was me as of July 2. The first was actually not bad.
That being said...
This month is going to be very busy. I'm working again and my schedule has shifted once again. This weekend we're traveling to the FL panhandle to pick up our teen and their best friend who will be staying with us for two weeks.
We have appointments and orientations and school shopping to do. I have a child's birthday to plan, a fall trip, and a ton of home management and so little time to get it all done.
The rest of the Bob drabble series will finish posting as it's all scheduled but after that, I will be on an indefinite hiatus.
You know that engagement is down, I don't have to tell you that. And I absolute love the 5 people who are ALWAYS on my notifications with comments, asks, and messages. But in this moment, my writer's block is kicking my ass, my original fiction has more of my focus than fanfiction, and posting just isn't a high priority for me anymore.
You can always drop me a message that I'll check asap, or you can add me on discord - callsigncole.
I'm also on tiktok and instagram at n.scole
Peace, love, and reading,
Cole. 💕

Just had to face the music that the average high in december here is 73F. everyone say goodbye to my favorite clothes with me.
