WAITT this is fun. going off what i think from the books but also all of these characters are gay to me and i don't trust soman a single bit so. we do our best here.

chaddick: 8/10... something internalized going on there for sure. and externalized of course i didn't forget that 'fruit boy' comment from awwp.

Sophie: 7/10 i feel like until she realized the grip her village had in defining how she views sexuality, gender, and her own attraction to femininity she would definitely be the type of straight girl who thinks every lesbian is in love with her. she rejects masculinity in women because it's so unnerving to her she'd be the type to say "well if there's women like that what will the guys do? no one will want them." and then not realize. (lesbian sophie you will never die TO ME).

rhian: 9/10 i think he'd be like Sophie thinking every gay man is in love with him and he likes the attention but judging by the fallout out of jaric (which. fair) i think he'd hold some prejudice and even repulsion. "like have you even tried to kiss a girl though." and then if we dive into the layers of him and kei i think he'd refuse to look past the surface level of "he's my head of guard of course i need and love him don't be delusional. that's literally my dog." so. however there is something super interesting about how he introduced lionsmane as a literal deviation from the typical narrative of the storian favoring the rich and powerful hetero-patriarchal fairytales. it was a means to secure power but there is something there.

beatrix: 6/10 has been homophobic will not be again? came out? awwp is a hot garbage mess but I think that her liberation induced by the hands of Agatha and Sophie choosing each other was a big game changer for her. i've talked about this before but she definitely was in love with Agatha upon her return. beatrix was ready to go, her facade from the head ever girl went away with the snap of the finger. so i think the homophobia (which of course in the text was never quite homophobia but was also defined as forcing this hetero-patriarchy standard and the status quo) was just tool of that facade. it was real, but i don't think it was deep seated in her mind like these other things. beatrix is soo fascinating actually because YES awwp is so fucked up and stupid but to see her pursue a future without a prince with the same force as she endeavored to catch Tedros attentions in the first book shows how radical that was for her. NO MOM, A PRINCE WAS YOUR DREAM. and etc.

tedros: 6/10 this boy is bisexual 🙏 but he is not immune to the years of frat boy mentality heaping up from his dad and the other everboys.

kei: 7/10 he's gay but i don't think he's an ally... let me explain. i think that sexuality is just another tool to him to further the advances of rhian who is like. front and foremost in his mind. i'm referring to his manipulation of dot (and if you want to make it a little more interesting and relevant, tedros). also calling aric a monster in acot is super interesting.... drawing the lines there, huh. i see you.

agatha: 0/10. to put it shallowly, in my experience lonely weird girls are so sweet and accepting. to put it deeply, agatha grew up rejected by her village so she has a level of solidarity with those also rejected for not conforming. she didn't grow up in a house headed by a man, her mother was in charge and she doesn't really have that gavaldon hetero-patriarchy ideology baked in her like sophie does. my sexuality headcanon for Agatha fluctuates between bi or lesbian but she is definitely not straight (unless it's for a gag about canon!agatha). do you guys remember edgar and hester. yeah.... i got to reread that scene idk why that just popped in my head.

The school for good and evil movie... I like it a lot actually, after waiting for 7 years for a movie, i liked it. It was not the worst movie adaptation out there but it was......hmmm.

From what i remember of the books(i did read them several years ago so-) there was a lot wrong with the movie.

1: The school master is NOT supposed to be seen by his students and he doesn't leave his tower unlike in the movie where he pretty much freely presents himself. Rafal also wears a mask to hide who he is from everyone???? which he just didnt do in the movie for some reason???

2: They butchered the trial by tail........ like wtf was that scene?? From my memory, it was supposed to be the girls school against the boys school, and it was EVERYONE. And in the trail by tail, Aric is supposed to be there, he's so important to the later story and he's just?? not in the movie for some reason, they just didnt introduce him to the story which i really dont get.

3: They changed Sophie's character, she isnt supposed to be ACTUAL friends with Agatha, she isnt as nice as she is in the movie, she's literally only being nice to Agatha so that she gets into the school for good but she actually thinks Agatha is a freak, and that was throw out of the window for the movie.

4: why the fuck is gerard way hort

5: The school for evil just.....doesnt exist in Gavaldon? Even though in the books its a BIG thing, the readers know about it, kids STRIVE to get in there, that's why Sophie befriended Agatha in the first place because of SGE, but in the movie they're like what? Different universes? worlds? Like wtf was that? 6: They skipped so SO SO MUCH and crammed three books into one two hour long movie and it felt like...awkward. Dont get me wrong, i liked the movie i think all the actors did an amazing job with what they were given but....it just felt weird having read all the books, it felt like so much was left out, so much development, so much plot, a lot was missing from it.

7: Why did Agatha and Tedros like each other so easily???? It took them a while to like each other from what i remember. There was no development of chemistry between them like in the books when Tedros choses Agatha in the glass coffins. Or the stuff in the trial by tale.

8: This is just a personal thing but it really bothered me how it showed what happened between Rafal and his brother RIGHT away, it took a while to learn about that stuff in the books and it just threw it at us so fast, that's just a personal bother though.

In all i think it's a REALLY good movie, i personally like it a lot i just wish they had done things differently and added Aric in there because if they plan on making more movies and, i assume base them off the books, he's kinda vital to the later story especially in ACOT and OTK (probably QFG too but i dont remember that book too much it was my least favorite in the series) If i think of more things that i had issues with i'll probably make another post but thats all i could think of rn.

EDIT : ANOTHER THING I JUST REMEMBERED. it's kinda important for Tristan to die, especially if they plan on continuing down the line of books because if they're going to introduce William into the book, one of his big traits is hating Tedros for how he treated Tristan and he blames Tedros for Tristan dying which didnt happen in the trial by tale so idk how they plan on having Tristan die or if they're even going to bring Will in (which i'd be pretty mad if they didnt put William in the series cause he's like one of the only characters that gives any type of representation in the series cause yk... him and Bogden are gay)

oooof this is hard. theres literally never been anyone on this show that i didnt love as an acot.

i think i would say winona but i wanna talk about one of the kids bc we’ve known winonas been amazing for decades now. but god she was so amazing in season one. when hopper was giving will cpr and she was sobbing and telling him that she loves him more than anything in the world??? god i cant even fathom that shes just acting there!!????? how did she do that and then someone yell cut and she just dried her tears and move on like WHAT!!!!!

for the kids i think im gonna say its a tie between sadie and noah. sadie i say for s4 and noah for s2. they both were so good at their more supernatural storylines. my favorite scene of the whole show is running up that hill and im SO glad it was max’s scene. and noah in s2 is fucking insane holy shit im so glad he was casted as will.

also sadie and caleb are so good together. didnt they say that they didnt even rehearse max’s “death” scene?? how the hell???

Probably, like, Sophie ig, they broke up for a reason (and also I hc Sophie as lesbian) but I remember getting an ask a while ago saying some people apparently ship Tedros/Hort and just... no.

Post-canon, he and Agatha definitely get kittens - he pretends to not be a cat person but secretly he adores them and would die for them (Agatha knows this and is waiting to see if he admits it)

nonetheless she is a very interesting villain especially because of the whole her being jealous of august getting more attention and competing with him for approval from higher power (rafal) i wish we had seen more of these siblings

her role in the camelot years though... no <3 it was intriguing that she had something to do with the conflict and the revelation that she was rhian and japeth’s mother was a show stopper. but in one true king, when it was revealed she went through all that trouble to cause problems for camelot just because she was mad at arthur for not keeping it in his pants is just,,, why? if he had done something that directly hurt her, something she could never get over, i would understand that. but the plot just fell short?

me wishing soman would develop his side characters and villains more like a whole book for evelyn and leonora individually like please they sound like they had such interesting lives

finally, for the main thing that i am DISGUSTED with her for the scene where she hexed arthur into having kids with her? um... why. why is this a children’s book. or why is the cruelty of this not properly explained?

i don’t care if she didn’t actually do it, she fully intended on r*ping him and having his kids, the only thing that stopped her was grisella knocking her out

(and on that note, shouldn’t grisella be held accountable for almost doing the same even if she backed out at the last minute-)

it’s genuinely AWFUL AND HORRIBLE like say what you want about arthur i personally really don’t like him but that was traumatizing and cruel and no one deserves that, and believe me, everyone would curse evelyn if she was a guy doing that to a girl. (not to get too pissy or call people out, but i personally hate when people hype up evelyn or praise her like sure she’s beautiful and her aesthetic is gorgeous but she’s straight up a r*pist)

and imagine being tedros and seeing that almost happen to his father and genuinely believing for a while that that did happen-like remember when he had to leave the room because it made him so sick to learn that, like when agatha got to explaining that part, he stopped her and just left the room crying GOD

i think something interesting that comes from alina being a front line soldier is the debate around ending the war and the means of doing it becomes much more personal and complex to her. 

tbh when i started tinkering w/ the idea as a fun “what if” that’s just what it was but after reading the main tril and being reminded of a common trope of the “YA” books of this ilk/era (i say “YA” bc i also consider ACOT/AR in this and they’re not super pg-13 fdgsdf) is the whole “ i’m a 17yo girl from a social fringe group into Art or Reading or something like that and oops! now i have to lead an ENTIRE REVOLUTION” is just I’m Tired. like i am an artist and it’s bonkers to me, they never have a personality or arc that makes sense w/ that skillset or tries to utilize it and there’s rarely enough work to make them a viable actor in these conflicts. Like I give the hun.ger gam.es cred, kat.n.iss is SUPER unequipped for the shit she’s gotta deal with but her skillset DOES make sense and explain how she’s not dead in 5 mins. 

The idea of Alina as one of the MANY ravkans who tried to learn a skill well enough that they’d get put into a noncombat role and FAILING like so many others thus being forced onto the front lines I think is honestly more impactful and easily leads to her being conflicted when it comes to the darklings’ plans and the civil war and everything. Like emotionally she GETS where he’s coming from MUCH more but also can’t necessarily agree. And the temptation to just have an End to the wars and fighting even if the cost is in reality too high is much more tempting when you’ve SEEN it first hand. 

tl;dr : either actually find a USE for a character’s given skillset, give them enough time in the timeline to LEARN a new one ( not a year/few months of montage to get the fucking basics ) or given them a MORE RELEVANT  to the plot skillset from the start.

i don’t understand why people like this fic. i’m going to start off with this. i know it was only a year ago but it feels so much longer and i legitimately can’t get through reading it without shriveling up into a ball and dying

But! I have two projects that I plan to actually start working on and I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in them/which one should I do first?

1- Camelot Years Nicphie Rewrite

Well the title is a bit self-explanatory, I wanna rewrite QfG and ACoT but, like, Sophie and Nicola are in deep fucking love and too stubborn to admit it. I do have a basic outline in my head but this would take a lot of work bc it would require me to basically engrave the books into my soul so I can make a coherent timeline/remember stuff without checking them every two seconds and also coming up with all the additional scenes and changes to the plot and it would probably only be concluded after OTK is out so

But it is something I rlly wanna do once I feel prepared enough

2- Hadestown AU

A much more indulgent project, I adore musicals with all my heart and ht is my favorite one so I simply need to make a sge au out of it. I had to debate a lot (in my head) abt which character/couple would get each role bc the possibilities are endless, but I finally reached a satisfying outline so I can start this one much more easily

I don't know if this would be a fic per say or just a series of drawings and text posts, but I'm excited abt it either way
