My Top 5 Fashion Choices in BL 2023

i am bad at remembering certain outfits or even shirts from all the shows i've watched so i'm pretty sure not all the show-stopping ones are included, but [taylor swift voice] this is me trying~

I. Mork's Fart Proudly -shirt

we both probably remember when the bts picture of this shirt first dropped. i was laughing so hard my stomach hurt bc this shirt is absolutely RIDICULOUS. but then the whole episode 2 happened and i read this post about the symbolism of this shirt (by the amazing @dribs-and-drabbles), and now i'm simply enamored. i cannot look at this silly shirt without tearing up. it's so important and truly a fashion choice.

II. Puen in Stripes throughout Our Skyy 2

epitome of softness and comfort is a married man with his kidnapped adopted son wearing all his beloved striped shirts. i love all the outfits in vice versa, in our skyy and the original show, but there's just something about puen's stripes. wearing them seems to bring out his inner child, which makes me super happy ♥

III. Ai Di's oversized sweaters

feral kitten ai di dressing up in all these soft and colorful sweaters, sweatshirts, and hoodies is probably the best fashion choice any bl has ever made. truly shows how you shouldn't judge anyone from the way they look. ai di might look like a babygirl but he can actually kill you, no questions asked.

IV. Mew as Daddy's Lil Monster

unhinged revenge era mew was something else. he was living his best slutty life. was he heartbroken and a hazard to society? maybe so. but he was also serving absolute cunt. i honestly think all the outfits mew wore post heartbreak were absolutely stunning (black tanktop my beloved), but this one takes the cake. there was really something about the cropped shirt and collar, right?

V. Ray's fashion sense in general

- tends to get confused when addressing drea, either referring to her as "mama / mommy", "dre" or sometimes "dwea", drea thinks it's adorable

- convinces herself that she's a real life princess, and drea instigates it

- drea is the only person that can refer to her as "nora", and only likes it when she's regressed cos it makes her feel tiny

- chews on drea's / her own fingers when she doesn't have access to her paci or teether, drea has to either stop her and give her one instead, or tell her to be gentle if she refuses to stop (cos she's extremely fussy - shes so real 💪)

- loves toys that make noise, she likes to repeat the noises and giggle to herself

- she likes baby bottles, but will only drink chocolate or banana milk from them as she doesn't really like normal milk, most of the time she uses sippys instead

- has a habit of not cleaning up after herself, leaving drea to stop herself from tripping up on toys she leaves scattered around

- sulks when she doesn't get her own way and likes to act petty until drea gives in

- she babytalks mostly, other times she communicates in various words or mumbling

- when regressed. she sometimes moves on from toys to play with oscar winner olivia coleman instead, drea supervises her so she doesn't do anything too much

- has a habit of playing with drea's hair, also has tried to chew on it multiple times when drea isnt paying attention to what she's doing

i can’t put into words exactly how excited i am to not only see chinese rep, but CANTONESE rep. cantonese ppl don’t get a lot of representation in western media when it comes to east asian for plenty of reasons (korean and japanese are more popular/palatable/easy to transpose western media to) but ALSO. it makes sense. it makes fucking sense. if you take a random asian person off the street of 2002 toronto (ESPECIALLY in the chinatown, spadina/dundas area), chances are they’re from hong kong, where everyone mainly speaks canto. hell, the main demographic of toronto’s downtown chinatown would be cantonese people.

the reflection of the culture within toronto. toronto’s a big mishmash of different cultures - tyler’s dad has a Caribbean accent (not sure about his mom, she only had like one line), priya is south asian and we see a few muslim characters, the school’s security guard being sikh and his iconic “hi, miss?”, miriam is (i believe, don’t quote me on this) jewish? abby is korean and we actually see her drop a few korean lines

also we see an chinese teen with his hair kinda tied up in a little bun. i’ve seen that kind of hair on a few guys growing up around that same time frame.

i actually thought jin was korean until i saw the way he answers the phone. that was all i needed to know he was canto too

the aunties. periodt. the aunties. both the short haired aunty and mr gao having the little spot (what is that, actually? melanoma?)

 the literal colour scheme of all the characters, everyone has their own colour but you also see mei’s aunties/grandmas + ming all wearing shades of green and blue to emphasize their “calmness” and how they’re almost the opposite of their red panda, but mei is primarily pink

likewise jin wears a lot of white. i’m pretty sure that’s the. only. shirt he wears in the film. he wears different pants. i double checked. he only wears that fucking white polo shirt. jin i love you but please that shirt can only get you so far in terms of iconic

also nailed the aesthetic of like. you’re next to your parent driving you home after something bad happened between you two

mr gao was also iconic, and also sexy   but my favourite line was “i like tony bennett” implying that at some point he sang tony bennett during a ritual. likewise, he looked fucking badass with that sword.

if i’m correct, we see young ming around what would have been her in the 60s/70s (assuming she’s around 40-50 in 2002), then slightly older ming in the later 70s and early 80s? and then present ming. the fashion of hong kong gets pretty nailed if that’s the intended look. especially the look of the glasses.

i was thinking recently abt how wilbur soot is like an irl quirky netflix movie love interest, or like an oc id make and get very attached to, so i made a list of all the reasons wilbur soot doesnt seem like a real person but instead a guy i made up for a movie script about learning to love life or something when i was 15 and wished i had cool irl friends (disclaimer: he is very much a real person):

his history consists of running a reddit channel, as well as an arg where he pretended to be a creepy stalker editor for his favourite minecraft youtuber, dressing up as a ceiling fan for halloween, pretending to write a film to impress a girl he liked when he was 17 and cover up his bullshit story proceeding to actually write a film script, and probably more stuff im missing.

his music. besides his two serious albums, he wrote 4 and a half songs where he pretended to be an incel obsessed with an e-girl. the opening lines to the song in the first lovejoy music video, one day, is “stop! cuz whyd you have to kill my cat?“ which sounds like the opening lines to a song theyd write for this imaginary movie as a joke abt how quirky he is.

we literally dont know his birthday, he makes up a different date every time someone asks him.

some misc things hes known for are running a twitter account where he exclusively spoke in emojis, also posting weird voice recordings on that account like that time he talked about pistachios and punching a hole in his window, being suspiciously good at making up songs on the spot (ex the vape song, the discord song). he is also 6′5′‘. and he literally punched his old computers motherboard live on stream after mcc to destory it and the stream cut out right before we could actually see him punch it (sad), he named his instruments, was accused of lying about everything so much that he had to put out a statement saying that he doesnt actually lie about everything and lying about everything was a lie. speaking of lies he said hes not allowed within 15 feet of his old office for,, was it cult activity?? i honestly cant remember anymore

Zoro fashion time! So the reason I chose to do Zoro nest and not go in my usual order is because his jacket in Enies Lobby is one I think about a lot so here we go! Let's talk: Zoro

First appearance: (Once again, I had to remove this pic to make room for the less iconic ones and as this one is well known, it's not really needed) I don't like this fit that much but it still nostalgic feel so it's here worth a mention. I do like when he has the headband on his arm, very cool n nice to show it's still there but it's very bland.

Arlong Park: Get that dad shirt, moss man!! This shirt looks like a baby blanket I have and now use as a headscarf so I love it but that being said, it also looks like a old lady fabric and that might not be some ppls jam but is is mine.

Drum island & Punk Hazard.: Now, i know what your thinking and I'll say it for you because you are absolutely right. He looks like Mint chocolate chip ice-cream and it's beautiful! In Drum island, The gloves are like a flake, the hood looks like cream, the sides look like lime sauce!! In Punk, it's more simple with the main coat being mint and the extras being the chips but both are ice cream themed outfit IN THE SNOW ARCS!! 😍

Arabasta: 4 good outfits in a row without missing am arc! Zoro has the best fit here and it's just because it's a nice difference to this rest of the fits in this arc. The rest just have plain colors or stripes save for Luffy (but thats cos it Luffy) I do actually really like this zebra coat and I think the orange is a nice contrast to the green. Color theory is cool, man!

Skypiea: Skipped a fit cos it was boring 😝 anyways, fuck yeah boy, show those skinny arms that are actually really strong! No more green middle part and white t but goggles? I love em n the vest color is quite a nice blue. So it's a win for me but I am biased cos I think Skypiea is my favourite arc-

Enies Lobby, Romance Dawn, Chopper's Kingdom & Clockwork Island Adventure: So the Enies Lobby jacket has a zip all the way up the collar? And I just- I don't wike it! But aside from that, the jackets are really nice! I like full open jackets for him, it's cute. Alsoooo Romance Dawn, Is that... Brown trousers? Wonderful change up. Chopper's Kingdom pulling it in with the shorts WITH STRIPES!! 🥳 and Clockwork Island with a towel? Sick, you do you, minty

Sabaody Archipelago: YESYES YESSSSS!!! THIS!! This fucking fit was and still is my favourite outfit he's ever had! I saw it ages before I even saw this arc and I remember yelling at the time I saw it and then saying 'are you kidding me? My favourite outfit and he almost fucking dies? ARE YOU KIDDING!?" It's a another open fit to show off that scar, it's a really nice fit and I like stripes!!! Annnnd boop, the headband is off the arm for the first time.

Little East Blue: Once again, this Little East Blue pulling in!!! It's just nice to see him in a darker t shirt but also RED!! Red Vs green, baby COLOUR THEORY!! 🥰

Wano: I am not here yet, but I do have this in Animal crossing on my kimono stand in my Zoro room so I can't ignore it lol. I do really like mint stripe at the bottom and the black spins, it's very stylish. It's kinda nice to see his old colors used in such a difference way and a touch of purple really makes a scene here. Also his change in footwear is a nice detail going from boots to what I think are geta? They might be Zori but they don't have super definitive teeth so I'm unsure but it's still nice and his hanao still look more comfy than Luffys Zori so 😅

Dressrosa & Strong World: um, yeah so the first 2 are basically the same fit but with a tie and a huge gun. It he's got a waist coat on in Strong like fuck yeah! Rock that 3 piece, dude! Then, the beautiful main outfit of the movie! It's 2 light browns and a red headband! What's not to love about it? You even get half the usual fit to time it in a bit so really it's the ideal fit for him. I love this headband cos it implies he's had different ones all this time just never uses them. (I headcannon that it's what most ppl get him for his birthday and this one is from Chopper) last, we also have Zoros only pink fit in this movie and it has only one button fastened. I like the side stripes, it's not too busy n that always good to see. The sweatpants also have a stripe n he has sandles on, we love to see it 😘

Film Z, Film Gold & Stampede: Brook knows his to dress his boys! Because let's remember lads, Film Z looks are all due to Brook in cannon. Gray is a super nice color for Zoro and the glasses are just such a nice touch plus trainers to keep you on your toes. Then, the iconic old pirate look yet still Samurai ish and a 180 color pallet flip! A master piece of a look really. Now, with Gold, it's a shame really cos we don't get enough of it. I say it cos it's actually one fit just without the jacket, tie and waistcoat! I love the white fits the get soooo much but my god is Zoro hiding the real beauty here. This shirt is 🤯 the blue looks LED but it's not it's just so cool! Stampede's outfit is definitely something I'd wear and comes with the added benefit of alcohol pouches (that I'd use for cool rocks I find on the ground instead cos I don't drink) I love orange on black and this is almost perfect amount. I only wish it have some on the front top as if he had it open, it'd be too big of a blank space but he has it open so 10/10 for this I guess!

Edit: I actually didn't have room for my favourite outfit and I only just realised so I might add it when I do Luffy cos they kinda do hand in hand, you'll see what I mean

Well some of my James headcanons:

- James had a rough childhood (I don't wanna explain) and he thinks his scares are something to be ashamed of but the others think that they are James's thropes;
