This is the mural I did for Solas' room in The One Where Lavellan is a Nug. I knew I wanted to actually have backgrounds in those pages, and it's so heartbreaking the way @feynites describes it in the original fic.

BUT, I thought I would save myself some time by not redrawing the mural over and over and copy+paste it in the back instead. It took almost a week, so it's debatable how much time was actually saved. Oh well.

WHAT IF SCENARIO

og!sj dies the night of yqy & lqg wedding because of heartbreak? (because real heartbreak can literally kill in this fanfic universe) just, like, he dies. that's it. no shen yuan to transmigrate in his body as replacement.

so, og!sj was in seclusion punishment during that night right? and he was only allowed outside to attend the wedding itself. (am i right? or if not, meh)

so shen jiu dies in his bedroom, alone. lbh tries to enter his room to help him prepare for the wedding but doesn't get an answer (bc og!sj is ded), so lbh leaves bc he's obviously afraid of entering the room without og!sj's permission in fear of punishment.

the wedding is completed without sj arriving and everyone just assumes that he's bitter about the whole thing and doesn't attend as a show of rebellion.

also, since he's in secluded punishment and the servants doesn't like him, no one approaches or even tries to enter his room. lbh tries to tell the upper servants that it has been almost a full night & day that og!sj hasn't responded to anything outside his room, but of course, they don't listen to him.

so, he tries to directly report to yqy. who at this point is feeling disappointed? relieved? (even he himself doesn't know) that sj did not cause any problems to his new wedding. so, he goes to check on sj.

he tries to ask permission to enter the room, no answer.

tries to lengthen sj's punishment if he continues to be stubborn, no answer.

tries to threaten that he will break the door, no answer.

yqy gets nervous. something doesn't feel right.

sj is not the type to stay quiet.

he forcefully opens the door.

and he finds sj looking peacefully asleep.

but there's something wrong in the picture. sj was too quiet. too still.

yqy realizes that he can't hear sj breathing. he can't see any movement. at all.

he flies to sj's bedside.

tries to take his wrist to check his condition, and whole body-flinches at the cold skin. sj's body was stiff. and as a highly accomplished cultivator, yqy knows the state of a dead body more than a few hours after death.

he whispers, "a-jiu?"

sj' body would look peaceful in death, if not for the dried tear tracks in his face.

(I don't know how to describe/write it but i want yqy's reaction to be utter devastation, something similar or worse than his reaction in this fanfic's og novel when sj died in the original timeline)

minutes or hours later (yqy doesn't know, doesn't know or aware of his surroundings anymore), after mqf arrives and checks the situation after a frantic lbh tells lqg about sj and lqg flies to have mqf at their estate, mqf states:

"his body showed signs of grief sickness. in this case, his lungs decided to stop taking in air, his mind decided to stop all functions of his body, and his heart just decided to stop beating. i can say that it occurred around 24 hours ago."

24 hours ago.

24 hours ago was when sj tried to convince yqy not to proceed with the wedding for his new husband.

24 hours ago was when sj tried to tell yqy that he'd rather die than let yqy have a second husband.

yqy ignored him.

and now a-jiu is dead.

"A-Jiu couldn’t survive his husband marrying another man. That person died the day Yue Qingyuan married Liu Qingge"

i really do sometimes love making myself cry with my thoughts and ideas. now im sharing these to the world. and now i want to re-read, for the 8th? 9th? time, this whole wonderful series.

Between the ten years between Inquisition and Veilguard I read so much fanfiction. My favorites were by an author named Feynite on AO3. They haven't updated in years and I wonder what their thoughts are on the new game, if any. Something, something, the internet is filled with ghosts and it's making me feel a certain way. Where ever Feynite is, I hope they are doing good.

Any specific recs? I'm actually doing a Solavellan playthrough right now in prep for Veilguard (I won't be done in time 😭 so I'll have to wait to start the next game).

There's one I have to by law recommend, even though it IS Unfinished but it's so so good, and that's Looking Glass by Feynite... I read it for the first time right after completing Inquisition for the first time, it's been like 7 or 8 years, and I still go back to read it every year and actively check on it *just in case* it's been updated every few months because I cannot let go lol.

I totally get it if you don't want to start an Unfinished fic because they're always little heartbreakers but it's so good and angsty and the writing is so delicious it's just so...

people are like "sy is so oblivious, how can he not realize liu qingge is in love with him" but when i first read svsss i was woefully unaware of the sy wifebeam. yall i was reading the scene where lbh is like "shizun waits so dutifully for liu-shishu" and thinking "silly lbh, why is he so jealous? it's so funny how he thinks liu qingge is a serious threat when he only tolerates sqq because of his life debt" when lqg fought 5 years to get sqq's body i was like "wow this really showcases the dedication of cang qiong sect to its members lqg is such a tsundere he refuses to admit he actually cares about sqq as a friend" im so glad im not a 20something chinese twink bc i would be in DANGER

I love Solas Technically Not Lying as well but is there any technicality by which he wasn't lying about his backstory? He talks about having a childhood in a little village and eventually leaving so that he would have more interesting dreams. I kind of wonder if this was supposed to actually be the case before Trespasser started more expressly introducing the former spirit stuff

yeah this one is probably more outright lying. it is a little funny that he says "being awake was troublesome" when he... recently Could Not wake up for thousands of years haha. troublesome indeed!

but i figured that was maybe his... summoning spawn point? or the place where he was living when first adjusting to having a body? or maybe he was sleeping there in uthenera? i guess "there was little there to interest a young man" is theoretically not a direct lie, bc he never claims to have been a young man himself hgjfjdhf. but that is quite a stretch and would not hold up in court.

it is interesting that he says that the fade runs out of new information if you don't geographically move or touch grass often enough, bc that means his view on the world was even more small and warped while in uthenera? literally just reinforcing his biases until he got the chance to actually look at anything himself. ancient elf boomer rotting his brain by looking too long at the racist fade algorithms haha

i think he was always meant to be a former spirit though, just bc of how pointed his quest is about "wisdom spirit made to fight and then it turns into pride" and some of the cole lines about him too!

Well, we've finally reached the end! This took longer than I expected, mostly because I started out thinking "oh, this will just be little doodle drawings for a fun comic, just to dip my toe back in". Ha ha. Obviously, I couldn't stick to that. The story is too good. Thanks for that, @feynites. I lay all of this at the altar of your writing magnificence.

Thank you to all of the people that have started following me because of this comic. I hope I don't disappoint you. :) And BIG thanks to my mutual @stealthflower. They've been there right from the beginning and have NO IDEA how much that first like meant to me, and all the ones after that.
